King Mal the Glorious
Since some of the paid members have changed their screen names, I have lost track a bit of who's who. I know Alexander was Leicester Lantern, but who was Woyzeck? Ultimately pointless, but bugging me On that note, who is Chest Rockwell?

Paid Members Au Posted November 11, 2008 Paid Members Share Posted November 11, 2008 Just seen that Audi advert for the Quattro where they say it can adjust how it grips the road. What does it actually do to change how it grips?

Andrew_
Why do deaf people have a weird voice?
Paid Members Au Posted November 12, 2008 Paid Members Share Posted November 12, 2008 Because they can't hear themselves, or anyone else, talk so have no frame of reference for what their voice should sound like.
Paid Members JLM Posted November 12, 2008 Paid Members Share Posted November 12, 2008 Because hearing other people speak and hearing yourself speak are vital parts of the acquisition of a spoken language. If a person suffers from prelingual deafness (either born without the ability to hear or lost their hearing before the ages where language is generally acquired) then their spoken language will be greatly hampered by this. Not all deaf people have "deaf voice" though, and the severity is usually determined by when they went deaf. Â Thanks English lit/lang degree! Nothing to see here!
Now I can't help but wonder if deaf people have regional accents. You know, like dogs are supposed to have to by imitating the sounds of their owners voices. Deaf people, perhaps, maybe, it's possible, could be influenced by the movements of peoples mouths which presumably differ slightly depending on their accents. Does anybody know anything about this? No. Great, for the rest of the day I'm in ponderland hell.
Paid Members JLM Posted November 12, 2008 Paid Members Share Posted November 12, 2008 http://www.qi.com/talk/viewtopic.php?p=54428 Â Apparently sign language itself has "accents" as well. Fascinating stuff if you're a bit bored.
Paid Members Bellenda Carlisle Posted November 15, 2008 Paid Members Share Posted November 15, 2008 Is there a way to get ringtones for free? I think phones are really boring and I hate people who are "into" them but I'd like a different ringtone and I don't want to pay
