Vito
Today my cousin lent me a copied DVD of a Channel 4 show which aired back in 2000 called Disinformation. It's basically a counter-culture program featuring the usual nutjobs claiming to have traveled through time or were supposedly brainwashed by government agencies and forced to do strange experiments along with interesting features on art, pornography, cults and conspiracies. A lot of the really off the wall stories were somewhat unconvincing and everyone involved in the Satanic Cult segment came off looking like total imbeciles but there's a really fascinating interview with Genesis P-Orridge (of Throbbing Gristle and Psychic TV fame) where he talks about his highly controversial performance art pieces, the 1970's Industrial music scene and how he was referred to in Parliament as a "wrecker of civilisation". Â The real gem was on disc two which was a collection of footage from DisinfoCon 2000 which featured an inspiring forty-odd minute lecture from Scottish comic book writer and artist Grant Morrison. I wasn't familiar with Morrison or his work before this but his lecture was a real spectacle, I love it when someone I've never even heard of stands up on a stage in front of a crowd of people and talks about the kind of shit I've had floating around in my brain tank for ages. You can watch the whole lot on YouTube (part one here), he talks about Aliens and stuff in part one but don't be put off.

I rarely read comics these days but Grant Morrison is one of my all time fave writers, I'm intrigued to watch that. I saw something with Pat Mills on Controversial TV recently, he saw UFOs but was disappointed have wrote about sci-fi for years lol Edited June 7, 2009 by Dynamite Duane
Dynamite Duane
Signs - Mel Gibson + Joaquin Phoenix Granted I didn't see it right from the beginning which can make a difference with the enjoyment of a film as it might not make sense but this was rubbish. When the alien turned up at their house towards the end they boarded up the place instead of getting tooled up. Gibson's acting was very poor, he just looked dopey as did Joaquin who seemed to be playing Gibson's backward brother. I get the impression they had all been told to under act when the alien arrived the 2 kids were unbelievably calm. Oh yeah despite the use of Joaquin's baseball bat on the alien it was good old strategically placed H2o saving the day. The matter of Gibson's faith being questioned seemed to be the most important factor of the film. I'm presuming Gibson directed the movie himself. The best scene of the film I saw was Joaquin and the 2 kids sitting on the sofa wearing tin foil hats Joaquin has been so good in other films I couldn't believe it. Â Anyone else seen this, what do you reckon?
Gladstones Bitch
I've seen it when it 1st came out and enjoyed it even though it makes no sense what so ever, how can aliens what are supposedly far more advanced than us not be able to get through a locked door haha. Paid Members Foale Posted June 7, 2009 Paid Members Share Posted June 7, 2009 I actually loved Signs. Granted there were some glaringly questionable things like why would the Aliens even attempt to invade a planet which is 70% water - the substance which is lethal to them, and how they can master space travel but have difficulty opening a wooden door, but the general suspense of the film and the 'less is more' approach to the presence of the aliens is really gripping. Â Maybe it's because you don't see the normal sci-fi 'laser beams and spaceships' stuff that so many alien films incorporate and the general feel of the film is more savoury, with a much smaller cast making it more intimate, but I'm a big fan of the film. Paid Members LaGoosh Posted June 7, 2009 Paid Members Share Posted June 7, 2009 (edited) Signs is pretty good up untill the aliens actually attack. Then it turns into a really shitty version of Night Of The Living Dead with a backwards retarded ending. Edited June 7, 2009 by LaGoosh
The Cum Doctor
I watched The X-Files : I Want to Believe last night. Â Absolutely hated it. There was one plotline that I gave a crap about, the one with the psychic paedo priest, and that ended up just screeching to a halt as well. Boring, boring tedious crap. Â I did watch Bolt and loved it though, so it wasn't all bad. Also liked Doubt.

I reckon I ought to see it right from the beginning to see what I missed, the film did grip me til the end I must admit despite the daftness. I want to see if Joaquin's character was supposed to be a bit simple or not lol

Almighty Rod
Watched Twilight for the first time today. Personally I didnt think it was amazing but I can see why it's popular. Twilight doesn't deserve anything even remotely positive or constructive said about it. It's the only film I've ever walked out of the cinema during. Not even bad in a funny way, just mind numbingly awful on every single possible level.

I haven't read the series of books so not sure if it's any different. Â Also i went to see Drag Me To Hell last night (only because the girlfriend didn't want to see Terminator - Salvation ) and nearly walked out. I love horror movies but hate that the genre has descended into getting rid of any suspense and just using loud noises to "scare" people. It's film-making at it's very laziest. Shame on you Sam Raimi - you used to be good.

Anyone else seen this, what do you reckon?  It was M Night Shymalan, not Gibson who directed - you can tell by the big twist that's in every Shymalan film.  It's not really very good, is it? I still like 6th Sense, Unbreakable and The Village, but the rest of his stuff is derivative.
