First BloodThe first of the Rambo films, and the only really decent one. However, its not as good as I remember, especially the last speech which is powerful but seems somewhat silly in Stallone's put-on voice. The action is thick, fast and brutal. The film cracks a strong argument against the way America treated some of the vets, but looses strength through the 'super-soldier' bollocks it develops as the film goes on. Instead it would have been better to have kept its feet firmly on the ground and present Stallone as just a normal soldier rather than a super-human.Still not a bad film, and a lot less heavy than a lot of the other 'Nam films.

The biggest mistake with that film was the decision to change the ending, I suppose killing him would have scuppered the moneyspinning sequels.......
have you seen the other ending? i got the Ultimate Edition R1 DVD and its on there, it's harsh.

I saw the Halloween Remake last week. It has almost no point, it's just gormless violence for the sake of gormless violence but still very enjoyable. It seems within the first 25 minutes it will be some psychological thriller, however there's thrown out the window for random killings. It's hard to think of positive things to single out about it, apart from the fact I enjoyed it. If it had a slightly shorter final battle it would be an awesome movie(in a B-movie sense!)

That's Rob Zombie for you :DGo see Devils rejects, more of the same and leaves you rooting for the villans at the end! :D

Wesley Snipes used to be awesome!

so true, there's a whole batch of cracking little actioners (& a few comedies) with Wesley Snipes, but has career has just hit rock bottom, his new movies are shocking.what happened Wesley?
Agreed on Snipes. From Blade to White Men Can't Jump and my personal fave, Demolition Man.'What's your boggle?'
I fucking love Demolition Man.. It's a really nice family film, at least it was in my household anyway. In fact I've seen that film so many times that I actually find myself slightly annoyed that you've misquoted it, which is really lame and nerdy of me.. but I just know the film that well that I can't help it.

The Condemned

I personally enjoyed most of it, but it would've been nice to see more emphasis on the tactics of the actual game players rather than the crisis of conscience that plagued the game creators office. Vinnie Jones is an absolute hoot at times in his role, but otherwise none of the performances particularly caught me eye, not even Austin. Though Austin does come out with some funny one liners. I'll give it about 7/10.

Transformers

I'm a little undecided. Brilliant action scenes and the transformations are slick. But I didn't feel much of a connection to many of the characters. Not that this has ever been Michael Bay's strongest aspect of his film making, but nevertheless characters like Sam's love interest just have no reason for me to care about them. Not even the slightest hint! The last 45 minutes of the film though is tremendous. A bunch of angry robots smashing the living shit out of each other? That'll do nicely. We'll call it 7/10.

Anchorman

Hilarious, and probably the most quotable film in my collection with the exception of the original Star Wars trilogy. A fun story with superb comedy characters and some great scenes which, in all fairness are absolutely ridiculous, like the fight scene for instance. Christina Applegate is an absolute darling. But my favourite character in the movie is probably Brian Fantana. Loving the 70's setting also. 8/10

Death Proof

The stand alone version. Cracking cinematography at times and good editing as is the standard for Tarantino. What I didn't like was the lack of Kurt Russell and the introduction of the second quartet of females (The New Zealander annoyed the fuck out of me) late on the film. They should have been introduced far earlier on, even in just a quick scene or something, ANYTHING to make me care about them rather than have them just shoved down my face with loads of babbling dialogue. I know Tarantino loves his dialogue and for the most part it was actually ok, but I was just begging for Stuntman Mike to come along at some point and smack those bitches up!

I'll call it 6/10

Fawlty Towers

We can talk about other DVD's rather than films in this thread as well, right? If so, I highly recommend this for a master class in characters, plots and situation comedy in general. 10/10 for hilarity. Not sure which of the two series I prefer, but I think series 2 just shades it. Magnificence, I tell you. 10/10

Same here. I always see in Blockbusters all these crappy cartoon and fantasy films in the "Family" section. I remember when I was about 7-11 every Saturday my family would sit around and watch a movie together and it was usually some bad-ass action movie, not some stupid kiddies film. Specific family films of mine I can remember are Demolition Man, Die Hard, Speed and Commando. Also, the first movie I can actually remember watching is Invasion Of The Body Snatchers (the Donald Sutherland one) which I think is pretty fucked up by my parents to show a little kid. I watched the first Jaws movie when I was a bit mashed out the other night. I dunno if it was because of the drugs but when Roy Scheider is tossing all the fishy guts into the water and jaws pops up for the first time I absolutely filled my cords. Absolutely fantastic film though. I also got to thinking how much better it would be if it starred Rob Schneider instead of Roy Scheider...this was probs down to the druggy wugs as well though :)I also decided to watch Casino when I had a spare 3 hours the other afternoon right. What an absolute classic movie. I dunno why Goodfellas gets so much credit after rewatching this its clear that Casino is far, far better. Does anyone know why Joe Pesci started accepting shit comic relief roles in home alone and lethal weapon ? He is the greatest actor I have ever seen

On Costner.

He's an awesome actor who has gained a reputation for being difficult and wanting to do things on set his way which some say has cost him several big roles over the last 10 years.

He's personally been a favourite of mine since seeing Field Of Dreams which is a truly awesome film. My other favourites include The Untouchables, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves(loved it as a kid and still enjoy it) , Tin Cup(hugely underated), For Love of the Game (over long but still good) and A Perfect World. I've some how managed to not watch Bull Durham for over 10 years.

Dances with Wolves bored me to tears and im not huge on political thrillers so JFK isn't really my thing, same goes for Thirteen Days.

Even though it's shit he's the best thing in The Bodyguard, Waterworld isn't great but it's not completely terrible, don't bother with Wyatt Earp just watch Tombstone.

I've not seen The Postman and Message in a Bottle so i don't know how crap they could be.

Take My Eyes (Te Doy Mis Ojos) very good

The Edukators (Die fetten Jahre sind vorbei) disapointing but still good

Planet Terror

Erm, I guess it ticked off all the boxes in what it set out to be. It's silly, very violent and looks and feels like a cheap 70's zombie drive-in movie, but despite all the (admittedly impressive) gore and carnage, it just wasn't very fun. Infact, the preceding trailer for Machete was a lot more fun. The cast had fun though, and it's always nice to see Michael Biehn. Josh Brolin was pretty cool too, as was Freddy Rodriguez, although he's a little small for an action hero. Rose McGowan is pretty smoking, and the Missing Reel was nicely placed to piss off the red blooded males watching.

The Kingdom

I like Peter Berg. Very Bad Things is a great black comedy, Welcome To The Jungle a surprisingly fun 80's buddy action movie and Friday Night Lights is an excellent underrated drama, so yeah, the guy is a versatile talent and has made some good movies in his short time as a director, so I guess he was due a blot on his copybook, and this is a fucking jingoistic, sloppy and boring mess. Paper-thin clich

Inside Man

Cracking film with a great set of performances from the cast and an entertaining story. Clive Owen in particular was a joy to watch as the main antagonist. The story itself kept me hooked all the way through as the twist and turns came into play. And hey, some nice one liners as well. I'd give it about 8/10.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

First of all, the DVD is shit. No extras? Nothing?? What gives? In hindsight, the film istelf is worth the money and then some. What an absolute belter. For script writing alone it's one of the most well written films I've ever laid eyes upon. To add to that, you've got excellent performances from a cracking cast, an interesting, thought engaging story and some glorious humour.

9/10.

Little Miss Sunshine

Awesome movie which can be at times tragic, at times hilarious and at other times heart warming. One guy I normally hate, Steve Carrell, is quite simply stunning in this. I can't think of anyone who didn't make me smile at least once though. I was always planning on seeing this at one point and now I'm glad I did.
