Danhausen match would've been better if it was Wild Cat Marc Mero. Or Ernest Miller. Or Bret Hart. Bayley/Lyra was better than I expected considering I didn't really care before. Tag match was as expected. Who knew Nick Aldis could be that over in 2026. Ending was pointless but I suppose they sent the fans home happy so whatever. Quote

Not only is he finally getting to wrestle for WWE after many years, but Gunther will definitely make him look good. Aldis' run with the NWA was more than enough to warrant this. I'd imagine it was more to introduce him to the WWE audience as such, see how he gets on with a view to wrestling in the future. He's a good talker too and has played the GM role well. He's got over and is getting huge reactions now in this feud, if he just comes in as a wrestler straight away I'm not sure he gets these reactions. They've built him fairly well tbf. Quote

They’ve showed impressive restraint keeping him out of the ring, so this feels huge that he’s finally pushing back on Gunther. Getting good reactions, too. Easily the best thing Gunther has been involved in since retiring AJ. I hope the match delivers. The last Aldis match I remember was his Title match with Cody at the original All In and although the moment was special, I remember Nick being a bit exposed as a generic schlub. No wonder he’s coming out of retirement. Smackdown is generic schlub central, these days. Bad show if you don’t give a fuck about American Sports, or live in New York. Whole thing felt like a bizarre House Show. ”But how bad could it be? Was the main event segment really that bad?” ”It was saved by the appearance of Seth Rollins.” Highlight of the night was JD McDonagh freezing at the end of his pre-match promo, forgetting his closing line, left pulling this face for what felt like six to eight months. “No more games… … … … …you’re getting it!” Genuinely gave me nostalgia for happier times, when WWE wasn’t so slick and overproduced. There was a real mid-90s vibe. Proper pro-wrestling! When massive, charismatic lads could still stumble over their words and look stupid. Forget CM Punk and FTR, this was the best tribute to The Harts in years. Bret, Owen and Bulldog were the Undisputed Kings of flubbing their final lines before walking out the curtain. And if you don’t believe me…well…erm…you will! I wonder of that’s the end for Bayley and she’s heading to AEW to make Mercedes Money? Sure felt that way. Edited July 19 by Supremo Quote
