Saying that, I think it worked here. Two big hard hitters trying to prove something to eachother. And they mostly dropped it once they got into the bulk of the match.

The "meat" chants are dumb but like any dumb chants it's usually a case of fans not being given a reason to emotionally invest in what they're watching so they chant stupid bollocks. Once the match evolved to telling a clear babyface/heel story (Hobbs fighting through the pain on one bad leg against a brutal Takeshita) the fans mostly stopped the "meat" stuff and reacted as they should. 

Not only that, but didn't one of those leaked "rules" sheets that we see every now and again say that only John Cena could do it? Capitalising on the strong, weird reactions he'd get.

In their defence, the last time Kenny was on TV in the Summer, he and Okada did have a stare down, with Kenny saying he’d challenge Okada after a few more months of recovery. Okada and The Elite then attacked Kenny, presumably kicking him out of the group, sending him home in an ambulance.

You’d be completely forgiven for forgetting all of this though. It’s never been recapped, the commentators themselves have seemingly forgotten about it, and the entire EVP angle fizzled out to fuck all. All that remains is The Young Bucks doing interviews trying to excuse the dead end run as some type of work. “We tried to have bad matches actually, so joke’s on you.” Did you lads, yeah? Were you also trying to have a completely flawed angle that achieved nothing and never concluded in any type of satisfying manner?

Quite funny watching that angle back though. Imagine being Kenny! You’re out for over a year with an illness that nearly killed you. You come back, your best mates turn on you, focussing their attacks on your broken bread basket, cost you another six months of your career, and your revenge is to come back wearing a suit and give one of the attackers a passive aggressive dirty look as you hand him a belt.

Yet another example of how AEW has completely lost itself in the meta-verse. None of the actual fiction mattered anymore. The biggest babyface return Kenny Omega could make was removing Christopher Daniels from his position as Interim EVP. #ThankYouCleaner

The thing is: Mox waging war on the mid/undercard for being lazy, unappreciative or failing to meet their potential is actually an interesting story. For example Mox breaking Private Party's hand as "motivation" is actually a cool angle that could have gone somewhere. They could have got a great 6-12 month midcard story out of Mox running roughshod on the guys who are "stuck in a rut".

Unfortunately it's so messy, unfocused and all over the place they've fucked it. This story didn't need the World title or any "we're taking over" bollocks at all. They should have kept it simple. Mox and Co's motivation being "I built this company on my back and you're all lazy leeches, I'm going to either force you to step up or kill you off" is basically all it needed to be. Clear, consice heel logic and goals and you could do loads with it without derailing the rest of the show or dropping stuff left and right.

Love the idea that the whole thing has gotten completely out of hand simply because Moxley hasn’t realised Private Party fulfilled their potential and became Champions.

With any luck, the whole thing will come to a grinding halt when Moxley is clued up. Marq Quen will walk into shot wearing a belt as The Death Riders are in the middle of another attempted murder.

”Hang on. You won the belts? Ah, crap. We’ve overreacted here, lads. Stop pouring those chemicals down his throat! Give him a Cherry Pepsi Max instead!”

I think the Death Riders like all in wrestling, is a simple angle that's been ruined by wrestlers sometimes thinking because they're kinda creative and they've watched stuff like Breaking Bad, that they are as canny enough to be as good at that, with their layers, lore, cinema and allegory. There is a part of the wrestling fan base that vibes to me that if a story is quite simple, that's just not as good, and wrestling needs to try and be as good as whatever streaming series doing. Mainly down to being pathetic losers who want wrestling to be seen as the same level when people and fans with any realism know it's silly bollocks.

We can all see how The Death Riders could be a perfectly good angle can't we, but like when Bray Wyatt used to fanny about with all his poppycock, they just end up fucking the pie because they think it HAS to be smarter.

Yeah I think all wrestlers are theatre kids/wannabe Hollywood actors at heart so the second they get any kind of creative influence they usually can't help but fuck it up trying to create some "epic cinematic masterpiece".
