The Gaffer Posted December 9, 2024 Author Posted December 9, 2024 What were the Plans Change™ that led to The Shield Vs. The New Age Outlaws at WrestleMania XXX? Another sentence nobody should ever have been able to type. I appreciate that the Outlaws were in a minimal role and were squashed by The Shield, but they're your hottest rising act in the company with minimum one and potential three future main eventers firmly seeded into it at that point. Cena's build up with Bray Wyatt I recall was quite decent but Shield/Wyatts should have been at WrestleMania XXX. Instead it felt like The Shield just got sort of awkwardly co-opted into the - sigh - Authority stuff. This was when the Outlaws - the 2014 New Age Outlaws - were accompanied by Corporate Kane. Quote

God he doesn't do himself favours with the imagery does he. That was before the Triple H/Reigns match. A perfect cap on The Authority - the worst story they probably ever did. Quote

I'm guessing it must have had something to do with CM Punk. Not slagging him, but he was booked for something at Mania 30 wasn't he before he did one just after the Rumble and someone on his level was probably earmarked for decent spot. Quote

God he doesn't do himself favours with the imagery does he. I was trying to find this same one, but with no joy. I did find some entrances with Steph but not the one with the speech. The pandemic era is surely the most bizarre time in WWE. I haven’t gone back and watched a single show from that time, so I have to rely on “that didn’t really happen, did it?” vague recollections. There were zombies attacking the Miz. Legit zombies. A cinematic match between the Viking Raiders and I think the Street Profits. Tozawa may have been a ninja in that one. Bowling balls too. Rey Mysterio lost an eye. Rey Mysterio was thrown off WWE headquarters. Vince McMahon had a golden egg…and I don’t know what the hell happened afterwards. Randy Orton and Edge had an interminably dull feud (“The Greatest Match Of All Time” ™). There’s undoubtedly more ludicrous stuff from that time, but thankfully I’ve forgotten it. That is until someone here posts some links to bring it all rushing back. Quote

The alleged card was as follows. Not sure how true it was but some absolute stinkers in there. Big Show vs Kane at a Wrestlemania in 2014? Quote
Paid Members BomberPat Posted December 9, 2024 Paid Members Posted December 9, 2024 I actually didn't have a problem with the New Age Outlaws at Wrestlemania 30 - partly because them winning the Tag Titles at the Rumble earned me a decent chunk of change on PaddyPower, but mostly because they got squashed in three minutes. Between that, Triple H losing, the end of the Streak, and Daniel Bryan going over in the main event, it felt like an actual effort being made to move forward, to present the next wave of WWE top guys as surpassing the generation before them. But instead you just get another few years of business as usual, and it took Triple H and Undertaker both retiring to stop presenting the Attitude Era as the be-all and end-all, and to stop pretending that Triple H and The Undertaker were among the most important parts of it. Yeah that was at the time they allowed accumulators on Wrestling. Made a few quid that night with a double on the Outlaws and Bray to win! Quote

I'm really sorry to derail the thread chaps. I have nothing to add other than to say this made me laugh out loud. Shades of that twat Maxwell and his 'Carnist Carriage' carry on a few years back. As you were. Edited December 9, 2024 by Bus Surfer meat nazi Quote
Members SuperBacon Posted December 9, 2024 Members Posted December 9, 2024 One of my absolute favourite things in WWE in this time period was Mizdow, which was fantastic. A short shelf life sure but I popped big time for every single bit of it. Quote
