It’s one of my favourite utterances that people believe that isn’t actually true when they say “verbal contract - not worth the paper it’s printed on.” Well, actually, it can be. Comes up in civil cases if one partner in a nasty split ends up in debt for bills in their name because they were sending money to their ex who then stopped paying them. The ex thinks they had no obligation to pay the bills if they’re not in their name, it’s not a joint account, there’s nothing down on paper. Actually, dickhead, your own conduct for the previous X months/years established you did have the obligation, so as long as they sent you the money, you should have been paying the bill.

Be a good double twist mind for “intelligent” Sandow to execute this plot then be foiled the week after by lawyers getting involved and rendering his win null and void. Thus has he got a gripe forever - he fought the law and the law won.

They've never done a MITB winner who got injured and was likely to miss the expiry time only to as a face make a massive effort to rehab for a cash in surprise or ask for a match on the final day. 

IPW:UK did have Andy Simmons use a cash in while hurt by using cronies to do the dirty work which was similar but not because of an expiry date but I'd also like to see that on a bigger stage.

Another babyface situation I'd like to see would be for someone to surrender their briefcase/contract and the announcement be made that he's cashing in, only to get attacked by a gang of heel stablemates. Eventually gets into the ring, smug champ insists "He's cashed it in!" and forces the ref to call for the bell to ring. Match commences without the casher-inner having the usual advantage, far from it. Herculean comeback, wins regardless.

I've thought of another few.

(1) Variation on the "trapping the champion" one. Champion gets lured into the ring chasing a different heel than holds the briefcase, to get ambushed. To make it even more novel, what if this happened during the Royal Rumble?? Although, bit tricky to do without making your babyface look stupid.

(2) Holder wins briefcase but claims "I don't need this" and as a hero babyface, they want to earn a shot the old-fashioned way. Then... well, turn them heel by that ending up being bullshit. Maybe get a contract signing situation and do the old "and surprisingly, violence breaks out" deal. Have some heels interfere if you like. Babyface champ goes through the signing table or whatever. Briefcase holder takes the shortcut he promised not to, cashes in, pins the champ amongst the splinters. Booooo.

It's a bit of a long game, but:

Wrestler A is doing nothing in another organisation so decides time for a change. They then don a full body suit and mask and debuts on the rival show. Over a few months they start to build momentum and the fans start clamouring for them to be included in the MITB match. 

Meanwhile, being non-masked and suited the wrestler continues on on the other show whilst winding down their contract. Fans are mixed over whether they should stay or go when contract is up. 

MITB match happens and wrestler A wins (as the masked wrestler) and obviously has their shot at the title. Back on the other show contract expiry is winding down and they come out and say 'I'll let you know my decision next week'. They then jump back into the mask and take advantage of an old friend battering the champ in a match and then come out and cash in their title shot and win the title. Whilst celebrating a surprise win they unmask and reveal that they have indeed jumped ship and had been competing on the other show all along and their contract had expired months previously but they'd appeared as part of the ruse to get the title shot on the other show. 

 

Then you can go 2 ways with it. They either go back to the other show with the title in hand and have 'stolen' it or they stay where they are and have loads of matches that otherwise would have been unlikely

Three possible outcomes I thought of for the heel underling scenario.

Big boss heel, someone like a Triple H in the Evolution era, struggles to win the belt back after numerous cracks. His lieutenant, let’s say your Randy Orton, wins the briefcase so Goldberg starts worrying about him too. Eventually Hunter gets himself one last shot. At an opportune time with Bill on the ropes a touch, Orton cashes in. As per Mania 31 it’s suddenly a triple threat match. (A) Evolution double team Goldberg mercilessly but at the end, Randy does what he’s told and sacrifices his golden ticket and lets Hunter pin Goldberg at the end despite obvious resentment. (B) With Goldberg down and it being a triple threat, Orton lays down so his boss can pin him to win Billy’s belt so you keep Goldberg strong. (C) Despite going in with a plan, Orton betrays HHH and takes the title for himself so the story coming out of it all is Evolution splitting up. Fuck Bill Goldberg.

I’ll be honest, it’s probably looking like Matt vs Dave and Sean vs Darren at Mania. 

To put it in ways that @Duke will appreciate more…. my first draft has Chris fail his cash in on Matt on a TV episode in the wake of Matt/Dave/Sean vs Darren/Chris/Geoff, only for the group to get thwarted by Sean as part of a slow burn babyface turn that started with elimination of Darren in the Rumble and then culminating with Sean vs Darren at Mania. But now I’m considering post-Mania, more novel than a failed cash in is either scenario A or B to get the belt back on Darren which is a twist on two previous times he’s had the case himself, or just do Austin Aries Option C and have his whole faction betray him and take the belt.

Its a season 8 or 9 problem.

Just remember Ken Kennedy (....... KENNEDYYYYY) once did a countdown to Mania. Essentially calling his shot 12 months in advance. I understand it was meant to be a swerve, but I'd kinda like to see someone try that for real.

OK, here's my latest. It's a bit convoluted but bear with me.

A strong babyface who hasnt had a title shot for a while wins the contract. They declare to the babyface/neutral authority figure that they don't need a sneak win and they'll earn a title shot the old fashioned way. They go on a win streak and earn said title shot.

During the match, bad guys stable mates interfere and after some other babyfaces join the chaos, heel champ either wins with feet on the ropes or gets themselves disqualified. Babyface challenger wipes them out with their finish.

GM/whoever comes out and reminds babyface of the cash in that they earned and since they've just been robbed... do they want to claim it now? They do, and match restarts. If you like poetic justice, they win the belt.

If you're me, and a good swerve is a multiple swerve, You do this in a six-way where Wrestler A has the cash in but when the match restarts, they have to prevent Wrestler B stealing the pin, then Wrestler C in the meantime wins the belt. Because its a way to set up Wrestler C defending the title and Wrestler A vs Wrestler B vs Mania equivalent, getting one over the heel that thought they'd stolen a pin and also keeping outgoing babyface champ strong. Kind of.

Money in the Bank PPV

 

The Miz vs Randy Orton vs Kane vs Ryback vs Dean Ambrose vs Christian vs Cody Rhodes vs Damien Sandow - MITB Ladder Match

 

The match goes as expected with everyone hitting there spots. The finish comes when Ambrose and Ryback are climbing the ladder. Lights go out for a expected Shield attack. There costing Ryback again! Lights back on... and Ryback is still standing. Reigns and Rollins are laid out! Ryback survived! Hes tips the ladder with Ambrose on over and he falls to the ring. Shell shock. Ryback climbs the ladder to win the match and a chance to face whatever champion he wants, at anytime he likes! What champion would want to face this monster?

On the same show, John Cena successfully retains his WWE championship against CM Punk and Big Show retains his World Heavyweight championship against Daniel Bryan.

 

 

Raw

 

Ryback comes out with his briefcase and cuts a promo about how he dosent care who the champion is and dosent care what championship he wins. He just wants to win and until he decides he just wants Vickie to FEED HIM MORE.

 

Week after week after Ryback tears through every opponent put infront of him. He begins to show more tact and methodically destroying hes opponents as the weeks go by. This goes on as he battles with The Shield accumulating in a elimination match at the Survivor Series. Here Ryback is the sole survivor after eliminating all 3 members of The Shield after the 5-5 drops down to 3-1 in their favour. The announcers are not making much of the briefcase until the night after December s Armageddon PPV. Both Cena and Show retained their titles at Armageddon. The road to the Rumble begins.

 

Raw

A Big Show promo opens the show. He claims that he is the biggest monster the WWE has ever seen and he is never going to lose his belt. Feed Me More stops Show in his tracks as Ryback marches to the ring with briefcase in hand. Show backs off in the ring and before anything more can happen Vickie comes out to announce the main event of the evening is a tag team match. WWE Champion John Cena and MITB Holder Ryback vs World Heavyweight Champion Big Show and IC Champion Cody Rhodes.

 

During the main event Show hits a KO Punch on Cena leaving him out cold. But instead of pinning him his self he motions to Ryback to use his MITB on a downed Cena and leaves the ring. Ryback looks as if hes considering as Rhodes comes back in the ring to be met by a Shell Shock and eating the 3. Cena recovers and stares Ryback out as Big Show looks on from the ramp shaking his head as Raw goes off the air.

 

Smackdown

Ryback has a mic as Smackdown opens and cuts a promo about how hes the biggest beast in the WWE not Big Show. He goes on to say however that Cena is a bigger opponent then Show will ever be and thats why he has decided to use his case to face Cena for title. He also says that because he is such a presence hes also using this opportunity to announce himself as an entrant into this years Royal Rumble as he wants to show hes the best by unifying both belts.

 

The Show ends with a Raw rematch only with Ziggler replacing Rhodes on the Heel side. The same scenario plays out only this time Cena hits the AA on Show and backs off telling him to cash in. Its clear that nethier champions wants anything to do with Ryback.

 

Raw

Show attacks Ryback backstage. He hits a K.O Punch and tips a vending machine over on the downed beast. Cena Makes the save and calls the EMT. This is the 1st time Ryback has looked vunerable.

 

2 weeks pass and theres no sign of Ryback until the Raw before the rumble!

 

Raw

Ryback is out and looking pissed! He claims that what he said on Smackdown about Cena being the bigger opponent has been proved and he is going to continue with his plans to face Cena with his briefcase but would like to remind everyone that he is going to enter and win the Rumble and finally get his hands on Show and take his title!

 

Smackdown

No sign of Ryback as Show makes a promo saying that he is not scared of facing Ryback saying hes going to win the Rumble and has proven once already he can and will destroy the beast at a time of his choosing.

 

Royal Rumble

 

Show defends his title in the opener against Kane. KO Punch in inside 10 minutes.

Cena just about defeats Punk to retain his title. Hard 25min match.

 

And now lets get ready to rumble!

 

Number 4 entrant is Ryback! He quickly hits the ring clearing out #1 Heath Slater and #3 Bo Dallas. He takes some time man handling #2 Sin Cara as more entrants hit the ring. It gets to entrant #11 and theres no more eliminations. All competitors turn to gang up on Ryback and eliminate him. He bravely fights them off and clothes line 3 at once over the top rope. Another gets body dropped over! Big Show appears looking pissed on the ramp. Ryback uses the distraction to toss another 2 over the rope and Entrant #12 Eliminates himself to save facing this raging beast. Show marches down to the ring shouting about his title and hes a beast not Ryback! He slides in and the 2 giants go at it! Shows trying to eliminate Ryback so he dosent have to face him! Ryback fights back and hits a HUGE Shellshock! Ryback looks at the destruction around him! Everyone is down including Big Show. He signals to the ref! Hes cashing in his MITB In the Royal Rumble! 1,2,3! Rybacks won the belt! He unceremoniously dumps Show over the rope as entrant #13 hits!Big Show is pissed shouting at the refs and KO Punches entrant 13 on his way to the back! Ryback manages to last 5 more entrants until hes eliminated!

 

Rybacks made history by cashing in and defeating Big Show for the World Heavyweight Title!
