JUNE 2017

I love that I write this concurrent to Jinder being newsworthy again.

MAIN EVENTS - SMACKDOWN

3rd/4th in Bridgeport and Glens Falls its Jinder Mahal vs AJ Styles for the belt then 5th in Elmira Styles & Randy Orton drop the champ and Kevin Owens. 8th in San Juan (12,500) we've got a Jinder/Orton rematch then three more nights of AJ/RKO vs Mahal/Owens in Sunrise FL, Panama City and San Jose (Costa Rica), plus one more 19th in Indiannapolis. 24th in Vancouver for reasons unknown Jinder loses by DQ to Raw's Seth Rollins then there's a pivot to the next challenger - its Mahal vs Shinsuke Nakamura 25th in Everett WA, 26th in Bakersfield Shinsuke & Orton beat Jinder and KO.

THE CARDS

Week 1 there's two rounds of Shinsuke Nakamura & Sami Zayn vs Kevin Owens & Baron Corbin and Naomi, Becky Lynch & Charlotte vs Carmella, Natalya & Tamina (which repeats in Indiannapolis) plus Luke Harper vs Erick Rowan continues. There's also Tye Dillinger vs Aiden English (repeating in Everett), a tag of Mojo Rawley & Sin Cara vs The Ascension, and there's no tag title but there is American Alpha vs Tyler Breeze & Fandango vs Primo & Epico - won by Breezango. Elmira and the bulk of week 2 has Nakamura back with Dolph Ziggler and Zayn jobbing to Corbin (though he does beat him in Bakersfield), The Usos return to make the 3-way into a tag title 4-way and in Central America Harper/Sin Cara/Rawley vs Rowan/Ascension becomes one six man. Charlotte is absent so the other five ladies wrestle a 5-way for the title. The Usos defeat Breezango and New Day and Harper drops English in Indiannapolis, Vancouver and Bakersfield, those last two also have Naomi & Lynch beat Mella & Tamina and Charlotte vs Natalya go 1-1 (!), Vancouver and Everett have the US title go down with Owens vs Zayn vs Rusev (yes, still there).

VARIATIONS

Charlotte doesn't make Bridgeport so Naomi & Bex beat "The Welcoming Committee" in a handicap. With AJ Styles dropping down from main event in San Juan he and Zayn beat Kev & Corbin. In Indiannapolis Zack Ryder finally returns as Hype Bros and Alpha beat The Ascension & The Colons, a swap has Dillinger beat Rowan after English loses to Harper he talks himself into losing to Sin Cara and Nakamura & Zayn beat Ziggler & Corbin. In Vancouver there's no Primo so Epico, Rowan and The Ascension lose to Mojo, Sin Cara and Alpha, plus Corbin's back with Dillinger. In Everett Mojo & Sin Cara go into the tag title match and Breezango go into the random 8-man, Naomi defends against Carmella and Lynch & Charlotte somehow LOSE to Nattie & Tamina (ugh) plus Harper jobs for Corbin (ugh). In Bakersfield Naomi actually retains over Lana after working the usual tag, Rusev beats Mojo and Sin Cara/Dillinger/Alpha beat The Ascension & The Colons - Erick gets the night off.

MAIN EVENTS - RAW

2nd in Trenton its Roman Reigns vs Samoa Joe, next night in Reading its Bray Wyatt, with Seth wrestling the opposite heel each night. Reigns vs Wyatt continues 9th-11th in Jackson, Alexandria and Beaumont, 16th-18th in Edmonton, Calgary and Springfield IL then 28th at Singapore Indoor Stadium and 30th in the first of two nights at Sumo Hall, Tokyo.

THE CARDS

in the North East we still have Dean Ambrose vs The Miz for the ICT, Adrian Neville vs Austin Aries for the CWT, plus there's Bayley, Sasha Banks & Mickie James vs Alexa Bliss, Nia Jax & Alicia Fox. In lieu of a tag title match there's Enzo Amore & Big Cass vs Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson vs Heath Slater & Rhino. We have Finn Balor vs Curt Hawkins and the underneath shuffle lands on Apollo Crews, Kalisto, R-Truth & Curtis Axel vs Goldust, Bo Dallas, Titus O'Neil & Elias Samson. There's Seth Rollins vs Samoa Joe in both Reading and Jackson, in Alexandria & Beaumont Rollins & Ambrose beat Joe & Miz. In week 2 we start a tag title match of The Bar vs Cass & Enzo vs Biz Cliz, the six-woman becomes Sasha/Mickie/Dana Brooke vs Bliss/Jax/Emma, the undercard switches to Crews vs Elias and (another phantom turn for Axel) Slater/Rhino/Kalisto vs Titus/Hawkins/Axel - Neville vs Aries unchanged. The Hardy Boys return in Alexadria and Springfield to contest the tag title as a four way. Week 3 the womens match becomes Bayley/Banks/James vs Bliss/Jax/Emma, Akira Tozawa is now on the road as Neville's new challenger and the undercard has Elias avenging his losses to Apollo while Truth & Kalisto beat Goldie & Titus. In Singapore and at Ryokgoku an obvious highlight is two editions of a match you didn't know had happened - Chris Jericho vs Hideo Itami - and returns "home" have Balor vs ex lieutenant Karl, and Bayley/Sasha/Asuka vs Bliss/Jax/Emma. The Bar also defend 2 on 2 with Slater & Rhino and Titus works Dallas - no idea who worked babyface. "Shield" vs JoeMiz unchanged for the rest of the month.

VARIATION

Apart from Rollins/Wyatt in Trenton there's only one - Neville vs Aries vs Tozawa (!) is exclusive to Tokyo.

MAIN EVENTS - NXT

1st in Orlando there's a fun-sounding Drew McIntyre vs Andrade Almas, then its Roddy's house! 2nd in Ocala it's Roderick Strong & No Way Jose vs Steve Cutler & Wesley Blake then 3rd in Venice Rod's pinning Velveteen Dream. If that all sounds a bit minor, it's because they're about to embark on a third UK tour (I didnt go to this one). its Boody Roode vs Drew for the belt 5th in Aberdeen and 7th in Leeds, Drew & Aleister Black vs Roode & Almas 8th in Brighton, then three days at Download again - Friday night Drew, Kassius Ohno & Aliyah beat Alexander Wolfe, Killian Dain & Nikki Cross and Roode retains against Strong (though Black goes on last), Saturday Drew vs Dain is underneath Roode vs Ohno for the belt, then on the Sunday Drew, Aly, Roddy and Mark Andrews beat Bobby, Authors Of Pain and Pete Dunne. 15th in Richmond and 17th in Poughkeepsie its Rod & Black vs Roode & Almas either side of Roode vs Strong for the belt in Bel Air MD. 22nd in Cocoa Aleister is on last with the Dream, 24th in Gainesville its Strong, Ohno and Buddy Murphy vs Roode, Dream and Lars Sullivan. 29th in St Petersburg McIntyre vs Cutler sounds a bit meh, next night in Fort Pierce Black closes with Blake. It's getting fucking messy again here.

THE CARDS

Street Profits vs The Ealy Twins is the only match that repeats week 1, they'll bookend it in Fort Pierce. Authors Of Pain vs Alexander Wolfe & Killian Dain repeats Aberdeen/Leeds (and Bel Air), who knows who played babyface there, or in AoP vs Riddick Moss & Tino Sabbatelli which goes down both in Brighton and the Saturday at Download - likewise Asuka vs Ember Moon for the belt and Pete Dunne vs Mark Andrews for the UK belt recur on those shows, on the Friday and Sunday Ember beats Peyton Royce, in Leeds and on the Sunday its Kassius Ohno vs Wolfgang. There's Aleister Black vs Velveteen Dream in Orlando and Bel Air as well as that main in Cocoa, Ember vs Nikki Cross repeats in Aberdeen and Bel Air, Asuka vs Cross starts on the Sunday and continues mid-month where we also repeat Drew McIntyre vs Dream, AoP vs Heavy Machinery, Wolfe & Dain vs Moss & Tino, Lars Sullivan vs Oney Lorcan and Ohno vs Cezar Bonini

VARIATIONS - JUST THE HIGHLIGHTS BUT FUCK ME

Orlando features Ember & Liv Morgan vs Billie Kay & Peyton, Ruby Riott vs Mandy Rose and Profits vs Moss & Sabbatelli. In Ocala Andrade Almas loses to Buddy Murphy and there's Riott vs Sonya DeVille and MaryKate vs Sarah Logan (new name) which I bet hit hard. Venice get Lacey Evans vs Bianca Belair plus MaryKate/Fire & Desire beat Kimberley Frankele/Logan/Liv. Aberdeen has No Way Jose vs Jack Gallagher, Dunne & Wolfgang vs Andrews & Trent Seven, Strong & Black vs Riddick & Tino and Ohno vs Almas. In Leeds it's Seven, Mandrews and Jack vs Moss/Sabbatelli/Sullivan, Riott vs Cross, Dunne vs Strong, Black vs Almas vs Eric Young and Asuka & Aliyah vs The Iiconics. Brighton has Ohno/Strong/Jose vs three Sanity lads and the Iiconics over Riott & Aliyah. Friday of Download AoP beat Gallagher & Wolfgang, Asuka retains over Ruby, Dunne retains vs Seven, Andrews beats Almas (!) and Black beats Moss on last. Saturday night Black pins Almas yet again, Ember beats Billie before her title shot later on, Roddy pins Tyson T-Bone and it's Riott vs Aliyah. On the Sunday Jose upsets Almas and Ruby beats Billie. In Richmond future Riott Squad Ruby & Liv beat future Absolution Sonya & Mandy, next night in Bel Air Asuka/Riott beat DeVille & Rose, Machinery beat Moss & Sabbatelli and McIntyre beats Andrade, in Poughkeepsie Fire & Desire lose to Ruby & Ember. In Cocoa Roddy beats Marcel Barthel (the awful first WWE name of Axel Dieter Jr, who becomes the equally-daft Ludwig Kaiser), Machinery beat "Forgotten Sons" Steve Cutler & Wesley Blake, MaryKate beats Danielle Kamela and Ruby & Lacey beat Sonya & Taynara Conti. In Gainesville the Sons beat Lorcan and our very own Danny Burch, Ruby pins Peyton and Logan & Aliyah beat Victoria Gonzalez (Raquel Rodriguez, remember) & "Abbey Laith" (Kimber). In St Petersburg Roddy tags with Fabian Aichner (now Giovanni Vinci) against Bonini & Kona Reeves, Jose beats Chad Lail (TNA's Gunner under his real name, soon to be Jaxson Ryker), Fire & Desire and Taynara lose to Riott, Evans and (hello you) Dakota Kai, and Liv beats "Vanessa Borne" (Kamela). Finally in Fort Pierce, Jose beats Kona, Machinery beat Lail & Aichner, Belair beats Kai and Gonzalez & "Sage Miller" (latest moniker for MaryKate) beat Lacey & Julia Ho, who will work a few more matches in NXT and the Mae Young and more recently in AEW as Zeda (Zhang).

Fun fact you may not know about Kimber/Abbey - on various indies she worked mixed tags teaming with everyone's fave Orange Cassidy as his female equivalent, Ashley Clementine. You see what they did there?

TVs

4th at Extreme Rules, The Bar take the tag belts from the Hardys, Miz wins back the jobber belt from Deano, and Joe becomes top contender to the absentee U champ. Next night on Raw Big Show, err, shows his face to tag with Enzo to beat Bullet Club. Next night in Rochester, Harper/Dillinger/Alpha beat Rowan/English/Ascension before SmackDown and Orton beats Jinder by DQ at the end of the night. 12th Raw in Lafayette has a decent dark main of Reigns vs Wyatt, next night in New Orleans Harper beats English to curtain jerk and later Orton d/dq Mahal again. 18th its Money In The Bank, and one of the most underwhelming of those they've done has Carmella and Corbin win briefcases to the delight of nobody. Controversially, the first ever womens Money In The Bank match ends with James Ellsworth - a bloke - actually retrieving the case and chucking it to Mella. It's pretty cynical - James actually tells Johnny Ace that it will be wildly unpopular and they run with it anyway, knowing they can pop a rating by doing another on TV. Next night on Raw Joe beats Reigns with the Kokina Clutch when Roman is distracted by Strowman driving an Ambulance - FUCK ME, did this feud drag??? - and dark Ambrose beats Miz non title (grr). Next night in suburban Dayton Dillinger/Breezango beat English/Colons before the show and Randy... fuck it. 23rd at Full Sail all the developments happen where Roode, Asuka and AoP turn back their next challengers in Roderick, Cross and Heavy Machinery respectively, and Drew earns the next title shot beating fellow Celt Dain. 26th Raw at the Staples - here's a fun development - Miz and eventual "Miztourage" Axel & Dallas beat Ambrose/Rhino/Slater and dark, Rollins pins Wyatt. Next night in San Diego Carmella retains the briefcase in the Miss Money In The Bank rematch, and the dark matches are Dillinger vs Rowan and Orton/Styles/Nakamura beating Jinder/Owens/Ziggler.

NON TITLE WHINING

JULY 2017

MAIN EVENTS - SMACKDOWN

1st-3rd we've got Randy Orton & Shinsuke Nakamura vs Jinder Mahal & Baron Corbin in Odessa, Hobbs and Amarillo. We stay in Texas week after, 8th-10th Jinder actually defends vs Sami Zayn in Corpus Christi, Hidalgo and Laredo even though those last two, the US title is understandably going on last. 15th-17th it's Mahal vs AJ Styles for the belt in Pensacola, Tallahassee and Columbus GA but Columbus gets a real main - John Cena vs Rusev. 22nd in Wildwood its Jinder vs Nakamura vs Dolph Ziggler (3800) then 24th in Newark (3000) Orton/Nakamura vs Jinder/Ziggler but in both convention centers Cena vs Rusev goes on last. 29th-30th its the same except Cena vs Rusev is now a streetfight in Detroit and Saginaw, 31st in Fort Wayne its Orton/Styles vs Jinder/Owens, still Big Match John on last.

THE CARDS

Obvious highlight of week 1 is Kevin Owens vs AJ Styles vs Sami Zayn for the US title, and its The Usos vs New Day vs Hype Bros for the tag belts and the womens match is still Naomi, Becky Lynch & Charlotte vs Natalya, Carmella & Tamina. There's Rusev vs Tye Dillinger going on second to last, Luke Harper vs Aiden English and an 8-man opener with American Alpha, Tyler Breeze & Fandando vs Erick Rowan, Epico & The Ascension. Week after the US title logically becomes Owens vs Styles vs Baron Corbin and we have a return to Shinsuke Nakamura vs Dolph Ziggler, the tag title and six-woman are largely the same, English & Epico lose to Alpha and Rusev beats Sin Cara. In week 3 still Nakamura/Ziggler (which comes back round in Fort Wayne), Zayn's back losing to Corbin (repeats in Newark), tag title's Usos vs New Day vs Breezango, six-woman repeats in Tallahassee but in Pensacola and Columbus Lana teams with the "Welcoming Committee" to lose 4vs3 to Lynch/Flair/Naomi. Rusev's still winning, over Ryder, and its Sin Cara/Alpha vs Rowan/Epico/English. In New Jersey its Owens vs Styles for the UST either side of the latest change, the tag title changes to Usos vs New Day vs Breezango. Week 4, the tag title is back on New Day but the match is the same, still a six-woman and Zayn losing to Corbin plus two instances of Sin Cara/Harper vs Rowan/English.

VARIATIONS

Let's start with the big one - in Detroit, the Universal champ comes to work, even though he's on the other show. Before intermission, Brock Lesnar vs Samoa Joe goes on as a dry run for the PPV, presumably non title. Otherwise... There are fewer bodies in Corpus Christi so there's one fewer match and Alpha go into the tag title match making it a four-way. Unique to Columbus, after an awfully premature Alpha separation via draft, Chad Gable/Ryder/Sin Cara beat English/Epico/Rowan. In Wildwood there's no Naomi so its Charlotte vs Becky vs Nattie vs Tamina vs Lana, in Newark its Naomi/Charlotte/Lynch vs Nattie/Mella/Lana. In Wildwood Harper/Dillinger/Hype Bros beat English/Rowan/Ascension and Gable then beats Konnor in a singles, in Newark Dillinger/Gable/Bros win the 8-man then Viktor gets himself beaten by Harper. In Detroit Harper vs Rowan has one more go around and Dillinger/Sin Cara beat Rowan & English. Next night in Saginaw they have one more night of Joe, so he beats Dillinger.

MAIN EVENTS - RAW

1st they have the second night at Sumo Hall with Roman Reigns & Dean Ambrose vs Samoa Joe & The Miz. 7th at MSG its Reigns vs Bray Wyatt on last, with Seth Rollins & Deano beating Miz/Joe underneath - that's the main 8th in Waco, Reigns vs Wyatt goes on first. 14th in Roanoke Rollins vs Wyatt goes on last, then we have John Cena back on top with Bray 15th/16th in Huntington and Lexington before he heads back to the SmackDown crew. 21st-23rd the Big Dog is back in Fayetteville, Hampton and Salisbury, and again 28th-30th in Buffalo, Erie and Youngstown, on last with Braun Strowman in the feud that will never die... DQ finishes, fuck knows why at this point when both have pinned the other on TV.

THE CARDS

The Bar vs The Hardy Boys for the tag belts repeats at MSG and mid-month, Adrian Neville vs Cedric Alexander for the CWT is one of the few matches that repeats on the first three shows. R-Truth vs Goldust as a grudge match starts at MSG, Finn Balor vs Elias Samson starts in Waco, both continue in week 2 and Seth Rollins & Dean Ambrose vs Bo Dallas & Curt Hawkins is a very peculiar use of two top babyfaces and former WWE Champions. Apollo Crews, Rhino & Heath Slater vs Hawkins, Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows as the opener on the same show is also a bit of a step down for AJ's mates and I have no idea why two Hawkins matches made more sense than Shield vs Club. There's also Akira Tozawa vs The Brian Kendrick and Alexa Bliss & Nia Jax lose to second-string babyfaces Mickie James & Dana Brooke. Week 3, Seth & Dean beat The Miz & Curtis Axel, Bray Wyatt drops out of main event to work Crews, tag title is now Bar vs Hardys vs Club, it's now Bayley, Sasha Banks and Dana vs Bliss, Jax and Emma, still Balor/Samson and Truth/Goldie plus we add Jack Gallagher vs TJP. Month end "Miztourage" is in full effect as Ambrose/Rollins beat Miz/Axel/Dallas, the split match of Enzo Amore vs Big Cass is underway, Rhino & Slater are now challenging the Bar, the womens tag shrinks to Banks/Bayls vs Alexa/Nia, Neville's back with Tozawa, still Balor/Elias and twice Wyatt/Crews but also two rounds of Crews, Titus O'Neil, Truth and Jason Jordan vs Goldust, Hawkins, Gallows & Anderson.

VARIATIONS - TASTY

Tokyo has Balor vs Chris Jericho in Y2J's last WWE house show match ever, Hideo Itami vs Enzo has no finish when Cass attacks Hideo then Enzo, Neville vs Tozawa vs Austin Aries finishes, there's Asuka/Banks/Bayley vs Bliss/Jax/Emma, Bar vs Club and Rhino & Slater vs Titus & Dallas. MSG gets added SD value with Kevin Owens vs AJ Styles and AJ actually takes the US title, plus Shinsuke Nakamura vs Dolph Ziggler, a return to Bayley/Sasha/Mickie vs Jax/Bliss/Emma and Balor vs Anderson. In Waco it's Bar vs Club vs Hardys vs Rhino & Slater and Truth/Titus/Crews vs Goldust/Dallas/Hawkins. Roanoke it's Ambrose & Balor vs Club and Crews/Slater/Rhino vs Elias/Hawkins/Dallas. Some oddness around Kalisto - he loses to Bray in Buffalo but misses Erie so Apollo does double duty working Wyatt AND the 8-man, then in Youngstown it's Kalisto/Titus/Truth/Jordan vs Goldie/Hawkins/Doc/Karl.

MAIN EVENTS - NXT

6th in Lakeland its Drew McIntyre & No Way Jose vs Velveteen Dream & Dan Matha, next night in Jacksonville Street Profits vs Steve Cutler & Wesley Blake goes on last, 8th in Largo Drew vs Matha one on one is half way up, Roderick Strong vs Andrade Almas is the main. 13th in Vancouver Drew & Roddy beat Almas and champ Bobby Roode, next night in Seattle and 15th in Portland Roode retains over Strong. 20th in Cocoa its Hideo Itami & Dream vs Kassius Ohno & Buddy Murphy, next night in Daytona Beach Drew & Rod tag with Aleister Black to down Roode, Riddick Moss & Tino Sabbatelli, 22nd in Tampa Strong vs Dream goes on last. 27th in Milwaukee, Drew & Ohno beat Roode & Itami, 28th in Aswaubenon (suburban Green Bay) Roode retains over Ohno, 29th in St Paul its Roode vs Rod again.

B shows - 14th/15th in St Augustine and Gainesville bigger names are up North but Hideo Itami vs Kassius Ohno still sounds a very serviceable main to me. 28th in Crystal River Asuka vs Nikki Cross goes on last, next night in Fort Pierce "the Empress Of Tomorrow" tags with Street Profits against Sage Beckett, Riddick Moss & Tino Sabbatelli.

THE CARDS

Drew McIntyre vs Velveteen Dream is back on underneath Roode's defences and Dream vs Roderick Strong repeats in Tampa and Milwaukee later. Authors Of Pain vs Heavy Machinery continues for the tag belts. Asuka vs Nikki Cross for the belt repeats in Vancouver and Crystal River. We've also got Aleister Black vs Andrade Almas yet again mid month (repeating in Milwaukee) and recurrences of Ember Moon vs Ruby Riott, No Way Jose vs Kona Reeves (repeats in Crystal River) and Lars Sullivan vs Demitrious Bronson. In addition, Hideo Itami vs Marcel Barthel in week 1 was probably very watchable. Kassius Ohno vs Itami repeats as both the B show main event and in St Paul. Heavy Machinery beat Steve Cutler & Wesley Blake in Lakeland and Daytona then month end lose three in a row to Alexander Wolfe & Eric Young ; Machinery vs The Ealy Twins also repeats and the Forgotten Sons lose to Street Profits in both Jacksonville and Crystal River. Ember Moon vs Mandy Rose repeats in week 3 concurrent to Liv Morgan & Ruby vs Bianca Belair & Sonya DeVille, as does Johnny Gargano vs Killian Dain in Milwaukee and St Paul.

VARIATIONS - HIGHLIGHTS

Jesus wept. Lakeland - Lacey Evans vs Taynara Conti, Black vs Kona and Belair vs Morgan. In Jacksonville - DeVille vs Julia Ho, Dream vs Buddy Murphy, Rose & Vanessa Borne vs Abbey Laith & Sarah Logan. Largo has Sonya/Borne/The Iiconics vs Logan/Liv/Conti/Aliyah and Sage Beckett vs Laith. Vancouver - Black vs Dream, Iiconics vs Ember & Ruby, in Seattle - Asuka vs Billie for the belt. St Augustine - Street Profits vs Riddick Moss & Tino Sabbatelli, Sonya vs Liv, Mandy vs Aliyah, while Gainesville it's Profits vs Wolfe & EY, Rose vs Morgan, Sonya vs Aliyah. Cocoa - Black vs Barthel, Moon vs Belair, Evans & Riott vs Iiconics. Daytona - Gargano vs Barthel, Cross vs Logan, Aliyah/Lacey/Liv/Conti vs Beckett, Borne, "Zeda" (Ho) & Reina Gonzalez (a first alt name for Raquel Rodriguez). Tampa - Drew & Black vs Cutler & Blake, Asuka/Lacey/Liv vs Sage/Iiconics, Belair vs Zeda, Machinery vs Moss & Sabbatelli. Ashwaubenon - Strong vs Itami, Gargano vs Dream, Moon vs Sonya, Riott vs Rose, Drew & Black vs Almas & Cezar Bonini. St Paul - Drew & Black vs Dream & Almas. Crystal River it's Iiconics vs Beckett & Gonzalez. Finally in Fort Pierce - Conti & Gonzalez vs Borne & Aliyah, Evans vs Logan and Jose vs Barthel.

TVs

3rd Raw in Phoenix Rollins vs Wyatt is an old-fashioned dark main. Next night still in Pheonix Charlotte beats Natalya before SmackDown and at the end of the night Cena & Nakamura (!) beat Corbin & Rusev. 9th its the Great Balls Of Fire PPV, enjoyable if forgettable - Strowman beats Reigns AGAIN in an Ambulance match, continuing to waste everyone's time while we wait patiently for Roman to get another crack at the belt, and Lesnar shows up to do a fun sprint with Joe. 11th SmackDown in San Antonio Sin Cara & Alpha vs English & Ascension is the dark opener, then its three nights at Full Sail - interesting personnel note from NXT on 12th, former TNA failure Lei'D Tapa (Barbar's daughter) has a tryout with Ember that makes air, but doesn't win her a deal. The Mae Young tapings feature a host of debuts or one offs from the likes of veterans Mercedes Martinez, Serena Deeb and Jazzy Gabert (aka Alpha Female) and ex-TNA Marti Belle, Mia Yim, UK flyins Piper Niven and Kay Lee Ray, future names like Santana Garrett and Tessa Blanchard, superstars from Down Under Toni Storm and Rhea Ripley plus of course eventual finalists Kairi Sane and Shayna Baszler. Next night as well as round 2/quarters/semis there's Gabert/Blanchard/KLR vs Belle/Garrett/Logan, and the opener we didnt see is Deonna Purrazzo & Jessica James vs Nicole Matthews & Barbi Hayden. 18th SmackDown in Birmingham, the Hype Bros beat the Ascension before the show and on SmackDown Maria Kanellis makes a very welcome return ; rather less welcome is hubby Mike Bennett who for reasons unknown they make wrestle under his wife's surname and beats Zayn in his debut. 23rd at Battleground the feud you forgot happened again concludes with Cena beating Rusev in a flag match, New Day win the tag belts and Owens gets the US title back from Styles. 25th SmackDown in Richmond has the Bros beat Konnor & Viktor again dark, and Y2J shows his face in the three way where Styles gets the title back from Owens. Finally 31st Raw in Pittsburgh - Big Show sighting, he loses to Cass by DQ.

NON TITLE WHINING

Beaten on TV this month : Alexa (Raw Womens Champion) by Bayley

DEPARTURE

That match at Sumo Hall is the last for the company for Austin Aries - a hell of a way to go out, to be fair. He's released that same week, at the time he'll state that creative gave him the "we've got nothing for you" so he asked to be let go, but in the years since he's conceded that he neither saw it coming nor asked for it. As many wondered about prior to him coming in, including Aries himself, it simply wasn't a good fit of promotion and talent. By his own admission, being 5'8 and 38 years old when he came in made him feel that he had a mountain to climb before his foot was in the door, and his reputation as a bit of a dickhead (again, by his own admission) preceded him and he was made to feel that he was on silent "double probation" i.e he'd have to be on his best behaviour and do exactly what he's asked with no quibbles. But regardless, and despite his best efforts (including offering to do commentary and literally any gig that could possibly have for him) he'll concede in a 2020 interview that both sides had doubts whether wrestler and system were right for each other, and those doubts proved to be not unfounded. His words : "When you're hired there, they want you to be a line cook. I'm a gourmet chef. When I'm trying to add some of my own ideas on how the recipe can be improved, they say that they're McDonald's. 'We sell a billion.' " A touch arrogant, maybe, but not without an element of truth. Somewhere along the lines of Robbie WIlliams saying "I want to write Karma Police ; I'm writing Kama Chameleon" about when they forced him to release Rock DJ as the first single off that album.

I have also updated March 16 post to include footage of Owens vs Styles at MSG, which is a common match in the building!

AUGUST 2017

MAIN EVENTS - SMACKDOWN

It’s Jinder Mahal vs Sami Zayn for the belt 5th in Montreal then we’re back to Shinsuke Nakamura challenging next two nights in Ottawa and Kingston. 12th in Tampa, 13th in Miami, 14th in Springfield MA and 21st in Albany it's back to the rematch with Randy Orton, Last Man Standing, but incredibly both nights in Florida before intermission there's a Universal title match of Brock Lesnar vs Samoa Joe on gigantic 9 match cards, and in Springfield John Cena vs Rusev goes on last. 26th in Baton Rouge Jinder's back with Nakamura, 27th-28th its more Last Man Standing matches with Orton in Monroe and Texarkana.

THE CARDS

In Canada the feud of the summer continues in a tag - AJ Styles & Sami Zayn vs Kevin Owens & Baron Corbin. Tag title is New Day vs The Ascension, there's a Women's title run of Naomi vs Carmella concurrent to Charlotte vs Natalya which annoyingly Nattie wins because Canada, plus Rusev vs Tye Dillinger and Luke Harper & Sin Cara vs Erick Rowan & Aiden English. Mid month we revert to Styles vs Owens for the US title (which repeats as a streetfight in Baton Rouge) and the tag title becomes New Day vs The Usos vs Hype Bros vs Tyler Breeze & Fandango. Flavour of the month Shinsuke Nakamura goes over Corbin, there's a return to the "Welcoming Committee" handicap but now Mella, Nattie, Tamina and Lana lose to Naomi, Becky Lynch and Liv Morgan. Zayn's avenging his televised losses to Mike Kanellis, who then talks himself into a match with Harper that doesn't go well for him, plus Sin Cara, Dillinger & Chad Gable beating Rowan, English & Epico. Matches that kick off in Albany and continue month end have Styles & Zayn vs Kev & Rusev and after a tag title change, Usos vs New Day vs Breezango. Month end we also have Charlotte & Lynch vs Lana & Tamina plus Hype Bros vs Epico & English every night, and two rounds of Epico talking himself into losing to Sin Cara too, and Gable pinning Kanellis.

There's a joke in there somewhere that SmackDown is so much the better show that when Raw's champ DOES come to work, he wrestles for them instead!

VARIATIONS

Somewhat logically, in Montreal Shinsuke takes Zayn's place as Styles' partner. Kev misses Springfield so AJ wrestles a random three way with Gable and a handy Dolph Ziggler - Gable's place in the six man is taken by Harper instead of Mike having to lose twice, plus Liv and Lana get the night off, it's Naomi vs Becky vs Mella vs Nattie vs Tamina. Albany has a unique handicap with Naomi & Becky vs Mella/Nattie/Tamina plus Ziggler vs Sin Cara and Harper/Dillinger vs Rowan/English. In Baton Rouge the shuffle without Orton lands familiar opponents reunited in both Zayn vs Corbin and Rusev vs Sin Cara.

MAIN EVENTS - RAW

We are Canada too for Roman Reigns vs Samoa Joe vs Braun Strowman 4th-6th in Halifax, St John and London. 11th-13th in Bangor, Augusta (ME) and Worcester we're back to Reigns vs Braun with the maddening DQ finish, but in Augusta and Worcester we've got more rounds of John Cena vs Rusev underneath. Still Roman/Strowman (LOL) without a clean finish 25th-27th in Carbondale IL, Jonesboro and Tupelo but Cena supports vs Joe on the first two (!) and old rival Bray Wyatt in Tupelo - Joe's done his knee in. Brand split means nothing to Big Match John either!

THE CARDS

In Canada it's a tasty tag of Seth Rollins & Dean Ambrose vs Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson and tag title match of The Bar vs The Revival plus Finn Balor vs Bray Wyatt and Womens title three way of Alexa Bliss vs Sasha Banks vs Nia Jax. We complete those shows with Adrian Neville vs Akira Tozawa for the CWT and Jason Jordan vs Elias. Mid month the Shield lads are back with Miztourage Curtis Axel & Bo Dallas, Balor teams with The Hardy Boys to face Elias and former lieutenants Doc & Karl, The Bar are with Apollo Crews & Titus O'Neil (huh??) and the Womens match is back to a six-woman, this time Sasha, Mickie James & Dana Brooke vs Bliss, Jax & Emma. Plus R-Truth vs Goldust, CWT unchanged. Month end the tag titles have moved to Rollins & Ambrose who defend against The Bar. Womens match is back to a bit "ehh" - Mickie tags with Alicia Fox vs Alexa & Nia. There's a nutball 12-man tag where everyone gets to take it easy - Truth, Crews, O'Neil, Heath Slater, Rhino & Kalisto beating Goldust, Gallows, Anderson, Miztourage and Curt Hawkins ; Neville still with Tozawa, Balor back with Bray.

VARIATIONS

Seth misses Halifax so Ambrose beats Karl one on one. In Bangor only Big Show vs Big Cass goes to a no contest. In Tupelo with Finn losing Wyatt to Cena and Joe injured, he beats Hawkins instead, who does double duty. But there is added value from the Hardys, wrestling a tag title three way with the Shield and the Bar.

MAIN EVENTS - NXT

3rd in Orlando its Drew McIntyre & Aleister Black vs Hideo Itami & Velveteen Dream, next night in Ocala Black vs Dream goes on last, 5th in Largo Black/Itami/Kassius Ohno beat Andrade Almas, Tino Sabbatelli & Lars Sullivan. The A crew spread their wings to the West Coast, its Bobby Roode vs Roderick Strong for the belt 9th in LA and 11th in San Jose with Strong vs Drew inbetween in Bakersfield, then Drew/Strong/Black vs Roode/Sabbatelli/Riddick Moss 12th in Sacramento. 25th in Tampa and the belt's changed hands, Drew defends against Andrade, next night in Bartow Black vs Dream is on last.

B shows! When the top guys are mostly in California, a certain pirate princess gets some shine - though Heavy Machinery vs Wesley Blake & Steve Cutler goes on last 10th in St Petersburg our eyes are on Kairi Sane, Dakota Kai & Aliyah vs Shayna Baszler & The Iiconics (Damage CTRL vibes), next night Kairi/Aliyah/Liv Morgan vs the same heels main events, 12th in Venice Kairi & Lacey Evans drop Billie & Peyton.

THE CARDS

Both Authors of Pain vs Alexander Wolfe & Eric Young (various DQ finishes) for the tag title and Asuka vs Ember Moon vs Nikki Cross repeat in California. There are four consecutive nights of (future Riott Squad vs Absolution) Ruby Riott & Sarah Logan vs Sonya DeVille & Mandy Rose, two outings each for Johnny Gargano vs Andrade Almas and Andrade losing to No Way Jose, plus Kassius Ohno vs Killian Dain and Aleister Black vs Hideo Itami. There's three rounds of Oney Lorcan vs Lars Sullivan. Forgotten Sons Steve Cutler & Wesley Blake vs Heavy Machinery repeats in Ocala and St Petersburg, the Sons wrestle Street Profits in both Venice and Tampa, Velveteen Dream vs Nick Miller is a fairly random singles match in Jacksonville and Venice.

VARIATIONS - SELECTED

Orlando has Profits vs Moss & Sabbatelli, Gargano vs Dain, Rose vs Logan in singles and Aliyah/Zeda/Lacey Evans vs DeVille, Bianca Belair and Vanessa Borne. In Ocala Roderick Strong vs Fabian Aichner sounds great. Plus Ember vs Bianca, Lacey vs Mandy and Iiconics vs Logan & Dakota Kai. Largo, it's AoP vs Profits, Riott vs Cross, Liv Morgan & Lacey vs Fire & Desire and a British presence - Pete Dunne beats the Dream, there's Jack Gallagher vs TJP and Mark Andrews vs Brennan Williams (mace from Maximum Male Models). LA get Drew & Black vs Sabbatelli & Moss and Itami vs Ohno, in Bakersfield there's Ember vs Nikki and Strong & Gargano vs Sabbatelli & Moss. San Jose get Asuka vs Ember for the belt and Drew & Ohno vs Sabbatelli & Moss. Sacramento sees Gargano upset Itami, St Petersburg has Morgan vs Borne and in Jacksonville there's Belair vs Zeda. Venice, Shayna Bazsler beats Zeda then demands another match, challenged by Taynara Conti - who she also beats. In Tampa - the tag belts have changed hands - it's Sanity vs Machinery for the tag belts, Moon vs Logan, Belair vs Evans, Gargano vs Moss and Conti/Rose/Borne vs Riott, Zeda and... Rhea Ripley. Finally Bartow the night after it's Sanity vs Sons for the titles, The Iiconics vs Liv & Aliyah, Belair vs Sonya and Riott vs Borne.

TVs

1st in Cleveland its the kind of SmackDown that would have been a good Clash back in the day ; Styles retains the US title against Kev and Nakamura defeats Cena (!) to earn his title shot for SummerSlam. 7th Raw in Toronto Strowman beats Reigns AGAIN Last Man Standing when Joe interjects. 14th Raw in Boston Tozawa relieves Neville of the Cruiser belt. Next night in Providence is one of the worst booked episodes of TV (SmackDown) I ever saw. Worthless has-been Natalya cleanly beats Becky by Sharpshooter to earn a title shot for SummerSlam (fucking why???), The Usos knock off New Day non title even though they're going to wrestle at SummerSlam, and while Corbin failing to successfully cash in on Jinder can't truly be considered a bad thing, the manner of it, designed to build for his match with Cena, makes him look a complete moron and is the end of his value as a top heel. Not that they won't try again. There's some dark matches - Dillinger/Haroer/Zayn vs Kanellis/Ascension first, and Orton & Nakamura vs Ziggler & Rusev on last. TakeOver : Brooklyn 3 has Sanity and McIntyre win the gold from AoP and Roode respectively and Asuka does her collar bone in. At SummerSlam the Usos beat New Day and Neville regains his belt from Tozawa both on the pre-show, and the show itself is an insane over-stuffed marathon of Mania size - Show puts over Cass, Sasha unseats Alexa, Deano & Seth win the tag belts, Jinder weasels out with the belt against Nakamura to my shock, and Lesnar vs Reigns vs Joe vs Strowman is fucking great fun but still feels like the stall on getting the belt onto Roman is going to last forever. Next night on Raw (12,100) Cass has his push stalled by a torn ACL. Next night, STILL in the Barclays (11,500), Breezango beat The Ascension before SmackDown on which Roode makes his main roster debut, and Orton beats Jinder by DQ dark. Thursday 24th at Full Sail Jazzy Gabert (Alpha Female) works a dark match with a Lea Nox about whom I know nothing, and Moustache Mountain are beaten for TV by... Kyle O'Reilly & Bobby Fish. 28th Raw, I simply can't get my head round this.... after FINALLY winning the belt on a Pay Per View instead of on Raw, Sasha manages to lose it back to Bliss just eight fucking days later... CLEAN. She jobbed the belt straight back to the heel nice and clean. As if the Charlotte run didn't make her look enough of a loser! Dark, Balor knocks off Wyatt in a street fight. Talk about bad timing for Joe - this was the night he was announced to wrestle Cena on Raw. Still, things will start to cook again between Survivors and the Rumble... before Joe injures his foot. The second of three consecutive years that Cena vs Joe will be considered for Mania but end up scrapped. Harsh. Finally 29th SmackDown has Naomi beating Mella in a dark opener.

NON TITLE WHINING

Beaten this month on TV : Jinder (WWE CHAMPION) by Orton, Naomi (SmackDown Womens Champion) by Carmella, New Day (SmackDown Tag Team Champions) by The Usos

DEPARTURE

Bangor is the last house show match for Big Show. He's meandered forever and will continue to be used in limited capacity for telly right up until doing one last high profile pinfall favour for new champ Drew McIntyre on the Raw after WrestleMania (Virus Symbol) then heading off to AEW who, remarkably, will use him as a wrestler.

SEPTEMBER 2017

MAIN EVENTS - SMACKDOWN

Still Jinder Mahal vs Randy Orton for the belt 2nd-4th in Moline, Cedar Falls and Rochester MN. We're back to Jinder vs Shinsuke Nakamura 13th in Honolulu and 16th in Osaka before its Jinder vs Randy again 17th in Shenzhen, then back to Nakamura 23rd-25th in Rio Rancho, Las Cruces and El Paso and 30th in Boise.

THE CARDS

In week 1 AJ Styles vs Shinsuke Nakamura vs Baron Corbin for the US title (reprising in El Paso) is probably Corbin's best match for a while. Bobby Roode vs Dolph Ziggler is yet another streak of losses for "The Show Off," The Usos vs New Day vs Tyler Breeze & Fandango continues for the tag belts, there's Charlotte & Naomi vs Natalya & Tamina (ugh) in lieu of a title match. Sami Zayn & The Hype Bros vs Erick Rowan & The Ascension and Tye Dillinger vs Aiden English (with English winning!) complete week 1 cards. Mid month we return to Styles vs Kevin Owens, it's Randy Orton vs Rusev as a Last Man Standing match (returns in El Paso), and the tag title becomes New Day vs Ziggler & Corbin. The handicap match returns with Naomi, Charlotte and Becky Lynch going over Nattie, Tamina, Carmella and Lana, Zayn goes over English and Rowan's back losing to Luke Harper. In New Mexico we have Zayn vs Mike Kanellis, Rusev swaps wins with Chad Gable (repeats in Boise), it's Naomi vs Carmella one on one, Harper, Sin Cara and the Bros vs Corbin, Rowan, Primo & Epico, still Styles vs Owens, Orton vs Rusev and back to Usos vs New Day vs Breezango and Roode vs Ziggler. In El Paso and Boise its New Day vs Usos vs Hype vs Breezango and Sin Cara vs Kanellis (he loses to Zayn first in Boise).

VARIATIONS

In Shenzhen its Styles vs Owens vs Zayn vs Nakamura, John Cena vs Rusev, and English jobs to Chinese talent Big Boa who as of December is still working NXT house shows. In El Paso its Zayn/Harper/Gable vs Erick/Primo/Epico, unique to Boise are Styles vs Owens vs Corbin vs Dillinger, Naomi/Charlotte/Lynch vs Nattie/Mella/Lana, and Harper & Hype vs Rowan & Ascension.

MAIN EVENTS - RAW

1st in Wichita it’s still Roman Reigns vs Braun Strowman with a DQ finish, sharing the billing with John Cena vs Bray Wyatt underneath, then 2nd/3rd in Kansas City and Des Moines The Big Dog is finally pinning The Monster Among Men in a no DQ match, though Cena vs Wyatt goes on last in a streetfight which I’m pretty sure is the same thing. Roman vs Braun's on last again 13th-16th in Christchurch, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane (in a streetfight) and 22nd/23rd in Sacramento (Last Man Standing) and Fresno (streetfight), then 29th in Grand Forks (Last Man Standing) and 30th in Winnipeg…. which is a standard match with a DQ finish yet again.

THE CARDS

Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins vs The Hardy Boys vs The Bar for the tag belts is the obvious highlight of week 1, the Womens title is Alexa Bliss vs Sasha Banks vs Nia Jax vs Alicia Fox (somewhat standing out there) and there's The Miz vs Jason Jordan (who wins a battle royal) for the ICT and continuation of Finn Balor vs Elias. On the Australasia tour Jordan's still winning the battle royal but his shot at Miz breaks down then it's immediately Jordan, Ambrose and R-Truth vs Miz, Bo Dallas & Curtis Axel. Womens title is a five way of Bliss vs Banks vs Jax vs Mickie James vs Emma - just for the Antipodeans! Balor vs Bray Wyatt is back on, CWT has Adrian Neville vs Akira Tozawa vs Enzo Amore, it's Hardys vs Bar. In Cali it’s Shield vs Bar, Bliss vs Sasha vs Mickie vs Bayley, back to Neville vs Tozawa and for some reason Matt Hardy vs Karl Anderson. Month end it’s Alexa vs Sasha vs Bayley vs Mickie vs Emma, Neville vs Enzo, Titus O’Neil & Apollo Crews vs Dash Wilder & Elias, and back to Bálor vs Wyatt and Miz vs Jordan.

VARIATIONS

Sasha isnt in Kansas City so Dana Brooke works the title four way. In Sacramento there's Jordan vs Dallas, Truth vs Curt Hawkins then later Goldust, Heath Slater & Rhino vs Darren Young, Hawkins & Wilder. In Fresno, it's one 10-man tag. In Grand Forks it’s Ambrose & Rollins vs Bar vs Dallas & Axel, in Winnipeg it’s just Shield vs Miztourage because Sheamus (with Cesaro in his corner) is somewhat busy with Brock Lesnar.

MAIN EVENTS - NXT

7th and 9th it’s Drew McIntyre vs Andrade Almas in Rochester and Toronto either side of Drew vs Andrade vs Bobby Roode at an ice hockey venue in a town called St Catharines (Ontario) - home of the Niagara IceDogs. Still McIntyre vs Almas 21st in Lowell and 23rd/24th in Bethlehem and Amherst, 22nd in Kingston (Rhode Island) there’s a good 1000 gate for Drew vs Hideo Itami. 28th in Jacksonville we have Kassius Ohno, Roderick Strong & Johnny Gargano vs Adam Cole, Kyle O’Reilly & Bobby Fish, next night Drew’s back tagging with Roddy against Itami & Almas, then 30th in Cocoa it’s Kairi Sane & Ember Moon vs Mandy Rose & Bianca Belair on last.

B show - 23rd appears to be the only night with two crews running, in Largo it’s Aleister Black vs Christopher Dijak (Dominik/Donovan lka T-Bar).

THE CARDS

Three nights of Alexander Wolfe & Eric Young vs Riddick Moss & Tino Sabbatelli for the tag belts, Johnny Gargano vs Killian Dain and Aleister Black vs Hideo Itami and either side of St Catharines it’s Bobby Roode vs Velveteen Dream plus Tye Dillinger vs Kona Reeves, Nikki Cross vs Lacey Evans and Ember Moon & Aliyah vs Mandy Rose & Vanessa Borne. In the fourth week of the month there’s Roderick Strong vs Itami, Kairi Sane vs Sonya Deville and The Iiconics vs Liv Morgan & Dakota Kai plus all three Sanity lads in with Adam Cole, Kyle O’Reilly & Bobby Fish, Gargano’s with Raul Mendoza (who's Cruz Del Toro today in the lWo) for three nights and it’s Oney Lorcan vs Lars Sullivan and Moss & Sabbatelli losing to the Street Profits - which repeats in Tampa. Sullivan vs Cezar Bonini is the only match that repeats in a messy last three shows.

VARIATIONS

Refreshingly few this month apart from month end so I'll do 'em all. In St Catharines Ember pins Cross, Lacey & Aliyah beat Mandy & Borne, Dillinger works Dream and Kona has the night off. In Kingston Roddy’s with Almas, Sonya gets to win vs Liv and the Iiconics lose to future Damage CTRL pals Kai & Kairi. In Largo there's a completely unique card - Bianca Belair vs Rhea Ripley (!), the returning TM61 vs Steve Cutler & Wesley Blake, Heavy Machinery vs The Ealy Twins, Lacey vs Sarah Logan, Cross vs Sage Beckett, Kassius Ohno vs Chad Lail, Danny Burch vs Sawyer Fulton and No Way Jose vs Bonini. Otherwise....  in Jacksonville Hideo goes over Buddy Murphy, Kairi pins Mandy, Belair beats Kai, the Profits beat Fabian Aichner & Marcel Barthel, Ruby Riott pins Borne and the Sons lose to Burch & Lorcan. In Tampa, Undisputed Era drop Ohno & Machinery in a loaded semi main, Ember pins Deville, Cross pins Morgan, Logan beats Billie Kay, Jose pins Kona, Lail beats Christopher Dijak and Aichner loses to Adrian Jaoude (Tiger Ruas). Finally in Cocoa, Ohno beats Itami again, the Profits beat Authors Of Pain, the Iiconics go over Dakota & Aliyah, Lorcan beats Reeves, Jose beats Brennan Williams, and Mendoza loses to the man responsible for the spot I hate most in the entire history of pro wrestling.... Lio Rush. If you've seen it, you know.

TVs

4th Raw in Omaha, I simply have to mention as a brilliant work of TV. Cena gives Jordan 10 competitive minutes before finally beating him in a cracking match you forgot, and endorses him afterwards, and in the shows main event Strowman is put over incredibly, pinning Big Show inside a cage after a superplex and powerslam (!) before slamming him through the wall of the cage, which gives way, leaving the mammoth Show as a lifeless corpse. Next night in Sioux Falls Roode pins Kanellis in a dark opener, and on live Smackers Nakamura cleanly pins Orton to earn another title shot. Remember, this guy has now been shown to be good enough to cleanly pin John Cena and Randy Orton both, and yet at the clutch, they won't put him over fucking Jinder. What?? 11th Raw in Anaheim, can't-miss prospect Jordan receives another big showing, looking great in defeat to Reigns and getting a handshake from HIM as Cena watches on backstage, viewing the monitor at the trademark WWE side on angle. Plus Goldust loses to Wyatt. Next night in Vegas is ANOTHER memorable taping - Zayn beats English dark. New Day regain the tag belts from the Usos, Gable gets a new (logical) tag partner in the returning Shelton Benjamin, and after SmackDown in an upset in the eyes of some (myself included) Kairi wins the Mae Young final over Shayna Baszler - in hindsight it was the right call, there were high hopes for Shayna but all these years later I don't think she's ever attained much above an air of menace but while remaining sinfully boring from bell to bell. 14th at Full Sail with Mikey finally back from injury TM61 beat Forgotten Sons in a dark match - the highlight of tapings being McIntyre retaining over Roderick. 18th Raw in San Jose Goldust fights Bray again as "Dustin Rhodes" but is still wearing Goldust attire simply without the facepaint, and still loses, plus Reigns vs Strowman in a streetfight is a proper Coliseum main event. Next night in Oakland Orton loses to Rusev in 10 seconds after being distracted by English on the apron and absorbing a superkick... what did this achieve? 24th it's an unusually early No Mercy at the Staples Center where Lesnar puts Strowman in his place, Reigns pins Cena (and really these felt like Mania worthy meetings at the time) Jordan falls short against Miz and Enzo wins the CWT from Neville. 26th SmackDown in Glendale has our last dark match of the year - Breezango, Gable and Shelton beat the Ascension and the Colons to open.

NON-TITLE WHINING

Beaten on TV this month : Rollins & Ambrose (Raw Tag Team Champions), Alexa (Raw Womens Champion) by Nia, Miz, obviously (Intercontinental Champion) by Reigns

DEPARTURES

I dont think so but there's another fun one next month.

... in case @CleetusVanDamme fancies a bit more Sheamus on Lesnar clobbering.

.... Reigns + Spear + Table.... some Dark Math indeed for Braun.

OCTOBER 2017

MAIN EVENTS - SMACKDOWN

Still Jinder Mahal vs Shinsuke Nakamura 1st-2nd in Spokane and Pueblo (CO) and 7th in Canton, 9th in East Lansing we move to Shinsuke & AJ Styles beating Mahal and Baron Corbin, 16th in Abbotsford back to one on one. 19th-22nd there are two nights each in Buenos Aires and Santiago (Chile) where Jinder defends on alternate nights against Nakamura or Randy Orton, then 30th in Raleigh there's actually - would you believe this - a NON TITLE main event, where hapless Jinder wrestles AJ and - to the shock of nobody reading this - loses by clean pinfall. Dry run?

THE CARDS

Two more rounds each early month for all the bigger runs - AJ Styles vs Kevin Owens vs Baron Corbin vs Tye Dillinger for the US title, New Day vs The Usos vs Tyler Breeze & Fandango for the tag title, Naomi, Becky Lynch & Charlotte vs Natalya, Carmella & Lana in lieu of a title match and Bobby Roode vs Dolph Ziggler. Also Rusev vs Chad Gable, a Sami Zayn vs Mike Kanellis match followed up with Mike losing again to Sin Cara, and Luke Harper & The Hype Bros vs Erick Rowan & The Ascension. In week 2 Randy Orton vs Rusev is back on (another Last Man Standing match in Canton) which is the only new repeating match (and comes back round first night in Buenos Aires), Roode vs Ziggler and Zayn vs Kanellis both repeat in East Lansing and Abbotsford. Usos vs New Day in a straight tag repeats in Canton and first night in Buenos Aires, as does Roode vs Aiden English. Sin Cara vs English repeats in Abbotsford and last night of the tour, Corbin vs Shinsuke Nakamura for his newly won US title repeats the two nights on tour where Orton main events, same nights have two rounds of AJ & New Day vs Rusev & The Usos and Roode vs Zayn, plus Nattie vs Charlotte for the title and tags of Naomi & Becky vs Carmella & Tamina, and Dillinger vs English. Usos vs New Day and Roode vs Ziggler repeat one more time in Raleigh.

VARIATIONS

Let's start at the top - 22nd, the second night in Santiago, how about this one - Rusev has the honour of being in there with Triple H, with some post match shenanigans featuring Hunter playing full blown silly babyface with the New Day lads. Canton it's Styles vs Zayn vs Corbin vs Dillinger, Naomi/Lynch/Charlotte vs Nattie/Tamina/Lana and Gable & Breezango vs Kanellis & Ascension. In East Lansing we get Usos vs New Day vs Breezango vs Gable & Shelton Benjamin, the handicap of Naomi/Lynch/Charlotte vs Nattie/Mella/Tam/Lana, and Dillinger & Bros vs English & Ascension. Unique to Abbotsford, Corbin vs Styles vs Rusev vs Dillinger for the US title, Natalya vs Charlotte vs Carmella for the belt, and Breezango vs Hype Bros vs Primo & Epico. First night in Buenos Aires there's Corbin vs Owens vs Dillinger for the belt, Naomi/Lynch/Charlotte vs Nattie/Tamina/Mella and Zayn vs Sin Cara. Second night in Santiago it's Corbin vs Roode vs Dillinger, Nattie vs Naomi rematch, Becky & Charlotte vs Mella & Tamina and Orton & New Day vs Zayn & The Usos (WTF). Unique to Raleigh, Orton & Nakamura vs Zayn & KO is a hell of a way to go to intermission, Corbin vs Sin Cara is the weakest UST match for many months, Becky & Charlotte beating Mella, Tamina & Lana, Rusev vs Dillinger again and Breezango & Hype Bros vs Colons & Ascension.

MAIN EVENTS - RAW

We continue Roman Reigns vs Braun Strowman (Christ!!!) Last Man Standing 1st in Casper, 6th-8th in Arlington, Tulsa and Rockford and13th-15th in Saskatoon, Regina and Yakima. 20th/21st in St Louis and Mankato MN The Big Dog gets a rest and Seth Rollins & Dean Ambrose vs The Bar goes on last for the tag straps like a great B show main of days gone by... which, without a champion showing up, these are B shows, to be fair.

THE CARDS

Week 2 we have title matches of Seth Rollins & Dean Ambrose vs The Bar and Alexa Bliss vs Sasha Banks vs Nia Jax vs Mickie James. It’s Matt Hardy & Jason Jordan vs The Miz & Curtis Axel, we’re back to Finn Balor vs Karl Anderson plus Enzo Amore vs Mustafa Ali and there’s Heath Slater, Rhino, Apollo Crews & R-Truth vs Goldust, Darren Young, Dash Wilder & Elias. Another settled card in Saskatchewan and Yakima has Miz vs Jordan for the ICT (picking back up from Casper), Shield vs Bar vs Slater & Rhino (ahhh), new CWT match of Kalisto vs Enzo, Sasha & Dana Brooke beating Alexa and Alicia Fox (referee'd by Emma, curiously), Truth vs Elias and Goldust & Young vs Curt Hawkins & Curtis Axel. End of week 3 Braun Strowman is pinning Balor, Bliss vs Mickie is a rare singles match for Alexa's gold, the tag shuffles to Banks & Bayley vs Fox & Emma ref'd by Dana, Matt vs Dash is a singles, and we revisit the Powers (Prime Time, not Mega) exploding with Titus O'Neil & Goldie beating Young & Hawkins - still Kalisto vs Amore.

VARIATIONS

Unique to Casper it's still Balor vs Bray Wyatt and Ambrose & Rollins vs Bar vs Axel & Bo Dallas, plus Bliss vs Banks vs Mickie vs Bayley vs Emma, Enzo vs Adrian Neville and Crews & Titus vs Wilder & Elias.

MAIN EVENTS - NXT

5th in Dade City it’s Eric Young & Alexander Wolfe vs Authors of Pain for the tag titles, next night at University of Miami in Coral Gables a man for man different roster is topped by Drew McIntyre, Johnny Gargano & Kassius Ohno vs Adam Cole, Kyle O’Reilly & Bobby Fish. 12th in Jacksonville Drew’s back tagging with Roderick Strong opposite Andrade Almas & Hideo Itami and next night in Orlando it’s again Drew/Ohno/Gargano vs Undisputed Era. 14th in West Palm Beach Drew defends the belt against Almas and again 19th in Macon and 21st in Aiken, alternating with Drew/Roddy vs Andrade/Itami in North Charleston and Johnson City. 26th-28th we have a new main event - Drew vs Andrade vs Adam Cole (baby) in Spencer IA, Des Moines and Omaha.

B shows - while the main headliners is in the barbecue states, 19th/20th its twice Kairi Sane, Ember Moon & Ruby Riott vs Rhea Ripley, Shayna Baszler & Peyton Royce in Daytona Beach (where Heavy Machinery actually go on last) and Venice, then 21st in Citrus Springs its Moon/Sane vs Shayna & Abbey Laith. Month end the bigger shows are in corn husker country, there's Johnny Gargano & Heavy Machinery vs Chad Lail, Steve Cutler & Wesley Blake in Tampa 26th, Street Profits vs Danny Burch & Oney Lorcan goes on last 27th in Sanford, 28th in Cocoa Gargano vs Hideo Itami was probably very worth the ticket.

THE CARDS

In week 3 its Roderick Strong vs Hideo Itami on nights of the Drew vs Andrade title match plus four nights in a row of Undisputed Era vs Sanity as a six man. Kassius Ohno vs Velveteen Dream alternates with Ohno vs Fabian Aichner with two wins and two losses for our Hero. No Way Jose vs Dan Matha alternates with Jose vs Aichner in four consecutive wins for Jose - Johnny Gargano otherwise beats Matha or loses to Dream (as per Jacksonville). Across week 3 on the B shows there are two instances each of Christopher Dijak vs Big Boa and Lars Sullivan vs Eric Bugenhagen (Rick Boogs). Month end there are three nights of Wolfe & Young vs reDRagon for the tag belts, Ohno losing to Lars and Aleister Black vs Dream, plus Roddy's with Brennan Williams in Spencer and Omaha which are consistent too in regards to Killian Dain vs Aichner, Kairi Sane vs Bianca Belair and Ember Moon vs Vanessa Borne. Other repeats see Street Profits vs Steve Cutler & Wesley Blake in Orlando and West Palm, and Heavy Machinery vs the Sons in Coral Gables, Daytona and Venice. Nikki Cross vs Sage Beckett in Orlando and Macon, then three consecutive nights of Cross vs Sonya Deville (which repeats again in Tampa). Ruby Riott vs Deville repeats in Coral Gables and Cocoa, Liv Morgan vs Sarah Logan in West Palm and in Aiken, and Morgan vs Borne in Daytona and Venice.

Macon - Evans & Logan vs Fire & Desire. North Charleston - Evans & Logan vs Sage & Zeda. Johnson City - Evans vs Beckett. Citrus Springs - Riott vs Ripley. Des Moines - Kairi vs Borne, Moon vs Belair, Strong back with Aichner and Dain vs Williams. Tampa - Hideo vs Rush, Reina Gonzalaz vs Abbey Laith, Profits vs Danny Burch & Lorcan and Jose vs Buddy Murphy. Sanford - Rush vs Murphy and a Halloween Costume battle royal featuring most of the womens talent plus randomly Blake and Moss, won by Baszler. Finally Cocoa - Lail vs Rush going to a non finish followed by Rush & Machinery vs all 3 Forgotten Sons, and Baszler/Beckett vs Kai & Morgan.

TVs

2nd Raw in Denver Balor vs Wyatt is a dark main. Next night in the same building Gable & Shelton beat the Colons before the shows and after them Orton/AJ/Nakamura beat Jinder/Corbin/Rusev. Next night at Full Sail Jose beats Marcel Barthel in the unused opener and most interesting developments for telly are Cross winning a battle royal to become number one contender for the vacant title and Mercedes Martinez gets a cheque to lose to Ember. 8th in Detroit, Hell In A Cell (16,000 in Detroit) sees the pathetic DQ finish wheeled out for jobber champ Natalya against Charlotte, The Usos beat New Day in the Cell to get the belts back in the feud that never ends, Styles drops the UST to Corbin via Dillinger in a three way, and Shane McMahon vs Kev inside the Cell goes on last with the heartbreaking sight of Sami turning heel. Next night on Raw in Indiannapolis Kalisto wins the CWT from Enzo atop Emma being last woman standing in a five-way eliminator to determine a match for Asuka at the next PPV, and dark the Shield retain against the Bar. Next night in Grand Rapids Dillinger vs English opens, Jinder vs Roode vs Ziggler for the belt is the dark main. 16th Raw in Portland Strowman beats Reigns in a cage match to end the show when Kane returns - because we all wanted that, right? Next night in Seattle Dillinger/Gable/Shelts beat English/Primo/Epico on first, on the show proper the glorious reign of Corbin starts with a count-out loss to Sin Cara, and dark Jinder jobs non-title to AJ. Hmm. 22nd in Minneapolis Emma puts Asuka over, Enzo gets the belt back from Kalisto, and two matches where medical issues prompted changes see Balor (scheduled vs Wyatt) pin Styles, loaned from SmackDown, and a nuts main has Strowman, Miz, the Bar and Kane lose to Ambrose, Rollins... and GM Kurt Angle. Huh. Next nights Raw in suburban Green Day Styles hangs around to tag with Rollins and Ambrose to beat Miz & The Bar, Emma puts Asuka over again, and in two utterly perplexing bits of booking have Fox win a three way over Sasha and Bayley, and Balor do a senseless job to Kane. Next night in Milwaukee Dillinger/Hype Bros beat Kanellis/Colons on first, Corbin loses to Sin Cara by DQ on the show and dark Nakamura & Roode beat Jinder & Dolph. 30th in Baltimore Rollins is sacrificed to Kane (WTF) on TV. Finally 31st in Norfolk, Charlotte/Becky/Naomi vs Nattie/Mella/Tamina is the dark opener and Styles & Orton vs Jinder & Zayn closes.

DEPARTURES

On 29th they'll announce three cuts on the website - Mankato was the last cheque for Darren Young despite him not being reintroduced to TV after his very recent return from injury, which was an odd one. But when your deal's up it's up, I guess. You had probably forgotten Summer Rae was still there at this point, right? After getting title shots back home the previous month and being used to put Asuka over on the PPV and on Raw (because they knew from NXT she'd do it well) Emma is let go, somewhat cynically. On the one hand, they'll realize there was something there and bring her back later. On the other hand, they won't really utilize her much second time round.

Finally.. yet another contentious one - Casper is the last WWE match for Adrian Neville, b/k/a Pac. He'll allegedly be asked to lose to Enzo on the 9/10 Raw and refuse, get into a heated argument with Vince himself, and walk out. During his time off and "contract negotiations" he'll rehab his neck which has been giving him grief but eventually - stories vary - either find himself frozen out or choose to sit out the rest of his contract, getting a release in August and finally returning to the ring in November 2018. He'll later state that it was general dissatisfaction with his creative, that they ran out of ideas for him, and while on the one hand insist it wasn't solely about Enzo who he found "annoying" but nothing more, he'll also give a quote about believing his worth to be above "being jobbed out to jobbers." So probably a little to do with Enzo, then.

NOVEMBER 2017

Welcome to a month I've been dreading writing up for personal reasons.

MAIN EVENTS - SMACKDOWN

We have continuation of the AJ Styles vs Jinder Mahal non title match (LOL) 2nd-6th in Dublin, Aberdeen, Barcelona, Madrid and Lisbon then after the title switch we move to AJ vs Jinder vs Shinsuke Nakamura 8th-12th in Leeds, Nottingham, Milan, Padova and Firenze. Back home AJ is giving Jinder the rematch 20th in Bossier City, 25th in Greensboro inside a cage at the specially branded Starrcade, 26th/27th in Roanoke and Charleston, and 30th in Lima - Peru, not Ohio.

THE CARDS

Consistency before Lisbon - we have Shinsuke Nakamura vs Kevin Owens, more of Bobby Roode vs Dolph Ziggler, title matches of The Usos vs New Day vs Rusev & Aiden English and Baron Corbin vs Sami Zayn vs Sin Cara plus a return to Charlotte, Becky Lynch & Naomi vs Natalya, Carmella, Tamina & Lana and an eight man of Tyler Breeze, Fandango, Primo & Epico vs Luke Harper, Erick Rowan & The Ascension for the Celts and Breezango/Ascension vs Bludgeon Brothers/Colons for the Spanish. Post Lisbon and TVs it becomes Corbin vs Sin Cara, Tye Dillinger & Ascension vs Mike Kanellis & the Bludgeons, and Rusev back losing to Randy Orton, and in Nottingham and Italy the tag title is Usos vs Breezango vs Hype Bros vs Chad Gable & Shelton Benjamin ; handicap and Roode/Ziggler unchanged, the former repeats in Bossier City and the latter in West Virginia (and Starrcade) where we also get two rounds of Usos vs New Day vs Gable & Benjamin vs Owens & Zayn (also repeats at Starrcade) and Dillinger/Breezango/Ascension vs Kanellis/Colons/Bludgeon Brothers, plus Orton vs Rusev is back on in Charleston and Lima. In Roanoke and at Starrcade it’s Corbin vs Nakamura (DQ finish) and after the title switch with the belt back on someone credible, Charlotte defends against that loser Natalya at Starrcade (in a cage) and in Lima.

VARIATIONS

Lisbon has a few exceptions - the big one being Triple H vs Rusev. Also UST has Corbin vs Zayn vs Roode vs Ziggler, tag title is Usos vs Breezango vs Bludgeons plus a straight Colons vs Ascension. UK/Irish involvement has Moustache Mountain vs Tucker (not that one) and Jordan Devlin in Dublin, Pete Dunne vs Wolfgang for the NXT UK belt in Aberdeen, Mountain vs Saxon Huxley & Sam Gradwell in Leeds and Mountain vs Dunne & James Drake in Nottingham. Exclusive to Leeds is Usos vs Breezango as a regular tag. Unique to Louisiana, KO & Sami lose to the super team of Orton & Nakamura, the US title is Corbin vs Roode vs Dillinger, there’s Bros (Bludgeon) vs Bros (Hype) and a rather random Rusev vs Viktor. Rounding out Starrcade are Naomi vs Tamina one on one (FINALLY Team BAD settles who’s least bad), Sin Cara/Dillinger/Breezango/Ascension vs Rusev/Kanellis/Colons/Bludgeons, and Dash Wilder vs Dustin Rhodes. In Roanoke it’s Rusev vs Sin Cara and Charlotte & Naomi beating Mella, Nattie and Tamina. In Charleston it’s Corbin vs Nakamura vs Sin Cara and Charlotte & Naomi beating Mella, Nattie and Lana. Finally in Lima, Nakamura curtain jerks with Sami in a rematch of Shinsuke's best match in the company, it's Corbin vs Roode vs Ziggler, Usos vs New Day vs Alpha 2.0, Bludgeons vs Hype vs Sin Cara & Dillinger

MAIN EVENTS - RAW

Tour time for Raw - amazingly it’s Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins & Triple H vs Bray Wyatt & The Bar 1st-5th in Glasgow, Brighton, London, Minehead and Cardiff. Yes, Hunter worked the O2 and Butlins in the same week. 7th in Brum (NIA) Kurt Angle fills the Trips spot against the Bar and Samoa Joe (ooo) then in Germany it becomes The Bar vs The Shield vs New Day 8th-11th in Dortmund, Leipzig, Hamburg and Mannheim. 25th/26th the Big Dog is back and he has a belt! Roman Reigns vs Samoa Joe for the ICT goes on last in Nashville and Huntsville. Hooray for the B show.

THE CARDS

Loaded 9 match cards before TVs have Finn Balor vs Samoa Joe (oof), The Miz vs Matt Hardy for the ICT and Braun Strowman vs Kane although The Monster Among Men is only permitted to win by DQ even on the road - lame. It’s Sasha Banks & Bayley vs Alexa Bliss & Nia Jax plus Asuka vs Mickie James, CWT of Enzo Amore vs Kalisto and some real talent in the filler - Jason Jordan, Goldust, Heath Slater & Rhino vs Luke Gallows, Karl Anderson, Elias & Bo Dallas. In Birmingham and Germany it’s back to Balor vs Bray Wyatt and we get Goldust & Curt Hawkins vs Titus O’Neil & Apollo Crews. In Germany it’s Joe vs Jordan plus post TV three rounds of Asuka vs Dana Brooke and two of Asuka/Banks/Bayley vs Bliss/Jax/Brooke refereed by Alicia Fox - ICT, CWT and Braun/Kane roll on (that one repeats in Nashville too). Month end we have Seth Rollins vs Cesaro, Jordan jobbing to Elias, Banks/Bayley/Mickie vs Bliss/Jax/Fox, continuation of Balor/Wyatt and Enzo/Kalisto and a return to Asuka/Brooke.

VARIATIONS

Rotating UK talent has Pete Dunne vs Wolfgang for the belt in Glasgow, Mark Andrews & Dan Moloney vs Joseph Conners & Tyson T-Bone in Brighton, Moustache Mountain vs Jordan Devlin & Tucker at the O2, Mountain vs Conners & T-Bone at Butlins, and somewhat understandably, Dunne vs Andrews in Cardiff and Dunne vs Moloney in Birmingham. In Dortmund only Nia gets a night off and Bliss & Fox lose to Bayley & The Boss. Huntsville miss out on Braun vs Kane but they do get Goldust, Rhino & Slater vs the OC and Dash Wilder. Seems fair.

MAIN EVENTS - NXT

2nd in Gainesville Drew McIntyre vs Riddick Moss for the belt is not what I was expecting, Drew’s off in Jacksonville so Aleister Black vs Velveteen Dream goes last, 4th in Largo Drew defends against Hideo Itami. 9th in Phoenix and 11th in Riverside CA it’s Drew & Aly vs Andrade Almas & Dream sandwiching another Drew vs Andrade title match (Black pins Dream underneath) in Vegas. 16th in Cedar Park TX (1400) it’s a rather eclectic Drew & Johnny Gargano vs Andrade & Pete Dunne then 17th at Aztec Theatre in San Antonio (1400) four out of seven matches are taped for TV including Drew vs Adam Cole for the belt (which HBK refs) - although oddly it doesn’t air until January by which time Drew’s lost the belt. Speaking of which - 30th in Pittsburgh we have a totally fresh title match, new champ Andrade vs Cole vs Roderick Strong.

B Shows! While Drew is 2000 miles away, back at home base it’s Johnny Gargano vs Hideo Itami 9th in Orlando and 11th in Fort Pierce with Eric Young & Alexander Wolfe vs TM61 for the tag belts in Ocala inbetween. 30th in Lakeland as new feuds start in Pittsburgh, down in Lakeland Pete Dunne defends the UK title against Gargano.

THE CARDS

A bit more settled this month at last. Aleister Black vs Velveteen Dream runs again three times in the first two loops and again in San Antonio. Ruby Riott & Sarah Logan vs Lacey Evans & Sage Beckett occurs the first two nights as do Lars Sullivan vs Christopher Dijak, Kona Reeves vs Jason (not his real name, a Chinese lad) and Eric Bugenhagen & Heavy Machinery vs Chad Lail, Wesley Blake & Steve Cutler. It’s four rounds of both Machinery vs Blake & Cutler and Kairi Sane vs Ember Moon vs Peyton Royce vs Nikki Cross, all won by Peyton, in Largo (after two wins for Nikki over Abbey Laith) and the desert states - where it’s also Adam Cole vs Roderick Strong and continuation of Sullivan vs Kassius Ohno (which repeats in Cedar Park), two rounds of Street Profits vs Riddick Moss & Tino Sabbatelli (which recurs in Pittsburgh) plus Billie Kay vs Vanessa Borne every night. Concurrently on the B shows there’s repeats of Eric Young, Alexander Wolfe & Killian Dain vs Dijak, Fabian Aichner & Buddy Murphy, Liv Morgan vs Sonya Deville, Reeves vs Rocky (another Chinese), Mandy Rose vs Aliyah, TM61 vs Danny Burch & Oney Lorcan and Dan Matha vs Raul Mendoza.

VARIATIONS (MOST)

Largo get Strong vs Murphy, Gargano vs Aichner and Morgan vs Bianca Belair. In Phoenix - Profits vs Sons and Machinery vs Sabbatelli & Moss. In Ocala there’s a return to Gargano vs Dain plus Dakota Kai vs Rhea Ripley and Riott & Morgan vs Belair & Evans. Cedar Park see all three Undisputed Era vs all three Sanity, Dream vs Tyler Bate, Kairi vs Billie and Ruby vs Sonya. In San Antonio, aside from what makes air Almas pins Gargano and Authors of Pain beat former champs Wolfe & EY. Finally Pittsburgh see new tag champs Kyle O’Reilly & Bobby Fish vs Young and Dain, new Women’s champ Ember beating Deville, Riott vs Belair, Sullivan vs No Way Jose and Black vs Lail while in Lakeland highlights are Shayna Baszler beating Laith, Trent Seven winning a really eclectic battle royal and Mandy & Lacey vs Aliyah & Jessie Elaban

TVs

6th Raw in that there Manchester (15,000) a dark opener has MAndrews & Moustache Mountain beat Gradwell, T-Bone & Conners, and Raw proper has Stacy Coates (Isla Dawn) do a job for Asuka and The Bar relieve The Shield of the tag belts. Next night in the same building (9000) Breezango beat the Colons before tapings, Roode & Nakamura beat Ziggler & Corbin dark after 205 Live and on SmackDown proper they go one better than Raw and switch the big one - AJ pins Mahal to win the WWE title, ending the worst reign in recent memory and sparing us from a pointless Jinder vs Brock Lesnar (as announced) champion vs champion match at Survivor Series. 13th Raw has a noteworthy scalp for Jordan, of Wyatt, after which Bray wrecks Jason's leg. Next night before SmackDown Dillinger & Breezango beat Kanellis & the Colons and on the show proper Nattie loses the belt to Charlotte IN Charlotte, cancelling the announced heel vs heel meeting of Natalya vs Alexa. That Saturday in Houston, TakeOver : War Games has Ember win the vacant Women’s title in the four way they’ve been rehearsing on the road, McIntyre drop the big belt to Almas and the first bastardisation of “War Games” pays homage to 1998, the worst WCW one, by having three sides of three and ending by pinfall. Next night at Survivor Series a plethora of pointless champions vs champions and other brand rivalry crap is saved by a decent (but still inconsequential) Shield vs New Day six-man dream match, and an absolutely blinding Styles vs Lesnar match. The main event, Raw vs SmackDown, is full of current main event worthy talent on both shows but bizarrely ends up with Shane McMahon as the unwitting pawn in a power struggle between HHH and Angle, rendering the real story - utter dominance of Strowman including pinning multiple-time champion Randy Orton - a total afterthought. At least Hunter shows arse at the end letting Braun beat him up and stand tall.. leaving the impression the march to Mania is going to end in something decent for Braun. Oh boy, are we wrong about THAT one. My own highlight of a very messy match is a nice little throwback of Angle getting to pin John Cena. Next night on Raw, keeping Roman distracted continues, he pins Miz for a little dalliance with the ICT... pretty weird that he's won the original Triple Crown and Cena hasn't. Far more important in my eyes, Paige returns to telly and introduces Fire & Desire (as will be) as her new cohorts in Absolution. Fourth night in Houston for SmackDown, Andrews & Dunne beat Mountain before tapings and AJ beats Jinder in a "Houston Street Fight" after them, plus SmackDown features The Riott Squad debut attacking virtually everyone either in ring or backstage. 27th Raw in Knoxville has the utterly preposterous one-two of Kane beating Jordan by count out because of Jason's gammy leg, then losing to Balor but only by DQ when he uses a chair - total bell time, 4 1/2 minutes. Pointless dross. Next night in Lexington Dillinger beats Kanellis and Roode & Nakamura beat Ziggler & Corbin again to bookend the shows, on which the Riotts start strong, beating Charlotte/Naomi/Nattie. Finally 29th at Full Sail, Wolfgang beats Kona in the opener and highlights of the TV are Gargano standing tall after a series of contenders matches, reDRagon beating Young & Dain to lift the tag belts (Freebird rule? Bollocks.) and Dunne defeat Bate in a much-lauded UK title defence.

NON TITLE WHINING

Beaten on TV this month : Enzo (Cruiserweight champ) by Dunne, The MIz, obviously (Intercontinental Champion) by Corbin, The Bar (Raw Tag Team Champions) by The Usos, Alexa (Raw Womens Champion) by Charlotte, Styles (WWE CHAMPION) by Lesnar.

DEPARTURES

I don't think so.

A PERSONAL NOTE

So.... in the build up to the tapings in Manchester, I thought about going. It would have been straightforward for me to change at work and get to the MEN. I considered walking up on the night for SmackDown especially, because I knew they wouldn't sell out, and because I'd get to see AJ, who I hadn't yet seen live while working for WWE. However, my attention span wasn't quite where it should have been at the time, even with Jinder vs Lesnar announced/"confirmed" for Survivors. I knew there was a SmackDown taping in Manchester, I knew AJ was getting a title shot on a SmackDown, but I don't think I realized it was going to be the same show. One of two things then happened - either I decided TV tapings generally weren't as good value as house shows, or I forgot what date the show was, but either way, I ended up not going. As you now know, Sod's Law took full and brutal effect. The company switched their oldest and biggest title in my country for the first and to date only time in history, with my favourite wrestler at the time actually WINNING the big belt, in the very city I live in... and I wasn't there to see it with my own eyes. You can't imagine how gutted I was when I read the results, and to this day it's one of my big three regrets in my live wrestling fandom, along with not figuring out quicker what I'd need to do to be in with a shot at New Japan tickets at MSG, and not deciding that "Christmas in New York plus WWE at MSG" was something I might have tried persuading Mrs raid-to-be into signing on for last year, so I could see Punk's first match back. Don't worry guys, if I'm ever blessed with the magic to Days of Future Past/Dr Beckett my way into retconning those dreams true, I'll bring enough Caramac back for everyone.

DECEMBER 2017

There's some "Holy Shit" levels of wacky House Show Happenings (TM) this month.

MAIN EVENTS - SMACKDOWN

We roll on with AJ Styles vs Jinder Mahal rematches for the belt 1st-3rd in Mexico City, Merida and Monterrey, an unexpected break via Baron Corbin challenging 10th-12th in Pikeville, Louisville and Terre Haute then back to Jinder Portland ME and White Plains 16th and 18th either side of the PPV. After Christmas they put a cage on it 27th-29th in Detroit, Pittsburgh and Hershey before 30th in Tampa we close the year in style - John Cena goes into the cage too!

THE CARDS

Randy Orton vs Rusev rolls through Mexico as does Shinsuke Nakamura vs Sami Zayn, title matches are also consistent with The Usos vs New Day vs Chad Gable & Shelton Benjamin (repeating in White Plains) and Charlotte vs Natalya. Mexico City also get Baron Corbin vs Bobby Roode vs Dolph Ziggler for the UST which repeats week 3 either side of the PPV and change. In Kentucky and Terre Haute we move to Usos vs Gable & Benjamin two on two then a return to Roode vs Ziggler, Tye Dillinger vs Aiden English, Charlotte & Naomi vs Nattie, Tamina & Lana in a handicap and Tyler Breeze & Fandango vs Primo & Epico - Nakamura/Zayn and Orton/Rusev continue, the former at White Plains too. Also in week 3 Charlotte vs Nattie becomes lumberjill and Breezango & The Ascension split wins with the Bludgeon Brothers & the Colon boys. Usos vs New Day vs Gable & Benjamin vs "Rusev Day" occurs in Portland which we'll see again in Tampa. After Christmas too, there are four instances of Orton, Nakamura & Roode vs Kevin Owens, Zayn & Corbin, three rounds of all of Zack Ryder & Ascension vs Mojo Rawley & Rusev Day, Dillinger vs Sin Cara and Bludgeons vs Breezango, two rounds of Charlotte vs Nattie vs Carmella vs Tamina then two of Charlotte vs Nattie vs Mella vs Lana, two further rounds of Usos vs New Day vs Alpha 2.0 and a repeat of Becky Lynch & Naomi vs Liv Morgan & Sarah Logan.

VARIATIONS

In Mexico there is rotation between the undercard and US title match so a few guys get one night off. Mexico City has the Bludgeons vs Sin Cara & Dillinger and neither Mojo nor Ryder work. In Merida the UST is Corbin vs Roode vs Ziggler vs Sin Cara, and there's Ryder & Dillinger vs Rawley & Rowan with Harper off, then in Monterrey it's Corbin vs Roode vs Sin Cara, and Bludgeons vs Ryder & Dillinger with both Mojo (again) and Ziggler rested. Portland has two characteristically unique matches -  Zayn vs Sin Cara and Nakamura vs Owens, in White Plains there's Orton vs KO and Rusev Day vs Ryder & Sin Cara, Detroit get Usos vs New Day as a standard tag title 2 on 2. Hershey sees Ruby Riott & Logan beat Lynch & Naomi, and finally in Tampa Ruby & Liv round off a four win streak for the Riott Squad over the same enemies and Mojo pins Ryder one on one.

MAIN EVENTS - RAW

We continue a corking six-man of Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins vs Samoa Joe & The Bar 2nd/3rd in Salt Lake City and Anaheim and again 7th in the first of two blood money nights in Abu Dhabi, next night... holy shit, it's Reigns vs Triple H for... the Intercontinental title??? Did you have Hunter chasing THAT title in 2017?.. you fucking liar. Night after that in New Delhi our six man is half way up the card and Hunter wrestles babyface-for-the-locals Jinder Mahal on last. Christ. 15th-17th the Big Dog is having another break, so there's a proper B show main with more Bar vs Deano & Seth tag title main events with silly DQ finishes in Manchester (NH), Syracuse and Allentown. Boxing Day through 29th at MSG, Nassau, in Hartford and in Albany... what an ICT main this is?? Roman Reigns vs John Cena. Fuck me ragged. 30th as you know Big Match John is with AJ so a truncated six-match card in Toronto is topped with Reigns vs Joe.

THE CARDS

Early month has a lot of consistency but its not always great reading between those shows - its Braun Strowman vs Kane with shit DQ finishes in Salt Lake, one night in the UAE and in India. It's twice Sasha Banks & Bayley vs Alexa Bliss & Nia Jax and Asuka vs Alicia Fox at home then Alexa vs Sasha for the belt abroad. Jason Jordan vs Elias goes 50/50 4 nights out of 5. Likewise Finn Balor vs Karl Anderson in the States (returns in Toronto) and vs Bray Wyatt in the Middle East where Anderson & Luke Gallows somehow lose to Titus O'Neil & Apollo Crews. Apollo, Heath Slater & Rhino vs Curtis Axel, Curt Hawkins & Dash Wilder rounds off week 1. The Bar vs Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins you know about mid month but night 2 in Abu Dhabi it goes in a cage. Mid month we get Strowman vs Samoa Joe before intermission, Sasha & Bayley vs Nia & Fox, two instances of Titus Worldwide/Rhino/Slater vs Hawkins, Axel, Bo Dallas & Goldust, a return to Asuka vs Dana Brooke and continuations of Balor vs Wyatt and Jordan now beating Elias every night. Post Christmas Balor vs Joe picks back up from a one off night 2 in Abu Dhabi, new tag team champions Rollins & Jordan are turning back The Bar, and everywhere except Toronto it's a cage match, after being absent since Anaheim it's back to Matt Hardy vs Bray, four nights of Asuka & Dana (phantom turn?) vs Bliss & Jax, then for sad reasons only two nights of Sasha, Bayley & Mickie James vs Paige, Mandy Rose & Sonya Deville then two of Boss & Hug vs Fire & Desire, five nights of a big 10 man of Goldie/Titus Worldwide/Slater/Rhino vs Hawkins/Miztourage/Revival - Scott Dawson is recovered from injury, and MSG and Nassau have two repeats of Strowman vs Kane. I've saved myself some keystrokes in one regard - when a CWT match happens, it's Enzo Amore vs Kalisto all month.

VARIATIONS

Abu Dhabi night 1 has Titus Worldwide vs Bullet Club vs Miztourage. Unique to Night 2 is Jordan vs Dallas. Crews misses Manchester so Titus/Rhino/Slater beat Hawkins/Goldie/Miztourage in a handicap. New Delhi has Miztourage job for local talents Jeet Rama & Kishan Raftar. Finally in Toronto, Mickie referees Asuka/Sasha/Bayley vs Bliss, Jax and Dana - who's a heel again. LOL.

MAIN EVENTS - NXT

1st in Altoona it’s the second night in a row of Andrade vs Adam Cole vs Roderick Strong for the belt then next night in Bel Air MD it’s Andrade vs Strong one on one. 7th in Daytona Beach we have Kyle O'Reilly & Bobby Fish vs Authors of Pain for the tag belts, next night in Venice Ember Moon & Aliyah vs Shayna Baszler & Vanessa Borne goes on last, 9th in Tampa Strong vs Cole goes on last. 14th in Birmingham then 15th in Memphis and 16th in Little Rock (ah, the old DX double shot) its Andrade vs Kassius Ohno for the title twice.

B shows - 1st in St Augustine is topped by Kassius Ohno vs Pete Dunne, next night Dunne tags with Authors of Pain against Wolfgang & Heavy Machinery which sounds ugly. 14th-16th in Orlando, Cocoa and Largo its AoP vs Riddick Moss & Tino Sabbatelli though Hideo goes on last in Largo.

THE CARDS

First two nights it’s Kyle O’Reilly & Bobby Fish vs Eric Young & Killian Dain for the tag straps and fittingly Ember Moon vs Bianca Belair (IN Bel Air) for the women’s title plus Street Profits vs Riddick Moss & Tino Sabbatelli and Ruby Riott vs Sonya Deville. In week 2 Street Profits vs TM61 and Raul Mendoza vs Fabian Aichner are the only matches that repeat. Mid month there's reDRagon vs Profits for the belts, Aleister Black vs Buddy Murphy, Heavy Machinery vs Steve Cutler & Wesley Blake, Kona Reeves vs Brennan Williams and Aliyah vs Vanessa Borne plus reprisal of Moon vs Belair, while in Florida Hideo Itami beats Aichner twice.

VARIATIONS - SOME THEREOF

In Altoona it’s Black vs Chad Lail and Lars Sullivan vs No Way Jose. In Bel Air Adam Cole beats Lail then loses to Sullivan by DQ, neither Black or Jose wrestle. In St Augustine its Machinery vs TM61, Moustache Mountain vs Forgotten Sons, Sarah Logan & Shayna Baszler vs Rhea Ripley & Aliyah and Vanessa vs Dakota Kai. St Petersburg has Mountain vs Thorne & Miller, Lio Rush vs Mendoza, Liv Morgan vs Jessie Elaban and Nikki Cross vs Kai. In Daytona Beach we see Ember vs Lacey Evans for the belt, Sonya & Mandy Rose vs Riott & Kai and Kassius Ohno vs Christopher Dijak. Venice get Machinery vs Authors of Pain (finally permitted to beat them), Roderick Strong vs Moss and Belair vs Ripley (oof). In Tampa it's Ohno vs Itami again, Baszler beating Aliyah and Morgan & Logan vs Rhea & Abbey Laith. Memphis have shuffles from the two shows either side - Moon vs Borne, Black vs Kona, Murphy vs Brennan and Belair vs Aliyah. Orlando see Absolution/Fire & Desire beat Riott & Morgan and Baszler drops Dakota, in Cocoa it's Rush vs Aichner, Baszler vs Laith and Liv vs Dakota, finally in Largo it's Ripley & Kai vs Reina Gonzalez & Sage Beckett, AoP vs Moss & Sabbatelli and Baszler vs Elaban.

TVs

4th Raw at the Staples Center has Paige return to the ring defeating The Boss and a dark main where The Shield drop Joe & The Bar. 5th at Naval Base San Diego its Tribute to the Troops, and while its absolutely loaded with a Shield six-man, Absolution six-woman and star-studded main, there's nothing dark. Which is understandable because later that night SmackDown Live airs from the Valley View - Dillinger beats Mike Kanellis in the opener, Adam James (now Peter Avalon) does a tag job to the Bludgeons and AJ knocks Jinder off again after 205 Live. 11th Raw has Mandy & Paige beat Bayley & Mickie plus - prepare to groan - Braun vs Kane goes to a non finish in their contenders match. Next night on SmackDown Tye beats Mike again dark and Colin Delaney gets a cheque for a loss to the Bludgeon Bros on TV. 17th in Boston "Clash of Champions" is SmackDown exclusive, little of note happens outside of Ziggler relieving Corbin of the UST in a three way with Roode. 18th Raw in Providence Balor goes to a DQ with Miztourage in a handicap then Hideo turns up to be Balor's partner (not for the first time) for an impromptu tag, and Absolution lose by DQ to Banks, Bayley and Mickie. Next night in Newark Ryder & Breezango beat Rawley & the Colons in the opener, Ziggler vacates his newly won belt and “leaves WWE” (lol) and Roode vs Corbin no DQ is a perplexing choice for dark main… would you sit through 205 Live if all that was waiting for you was Corbin? Speaking of 205 Delaney gets another payday losing to Itami, who despite tagging recently with Bálor on Raw, has made the somewhat sideways move from NXT to 205. Hmm. 25th Raw at the AllState (13,000+) - yes, they worked Christmas Day live, not a pre tape like many previous years - Cena shows his face to beat Elias, Absolution beat Sasha, Bayley & Mickie again, Rollins & Jordan take the tag belts from The Bar and dark Braun finally records a win over spent force Kane in a last man standing. Finally Boxing Day still in Rosemont, Mojo beats Ryder in a dark opener, a US title tournament starts and the Coliseum main has Daniel Bryan guest ref AJ, Orton and Nakamura beating Jinder, Kev and Sami.

NON TITLE WHINING

Beaten on TV this month : The Usos (SmackDown Tag Team Champions) by Rusev & English, AGAIN by Gable & Benjamin

DEPARTURE

A fairly sad one for me - in just her second match back on the road, a freak accident while taking a kick from Sasha injures Paige leaving her facing another layoff and potential second neck surgery, missing the first (and to date, every) women's Royal Rumble. Though she continues accompanying Absolution, she announces her retirement on the post Mania 34 Raw. She's looked after well by the company, spending most of 2018 as SmackDown GM and a chunk of 2019 managing the Kabuki Warriors (either side of surgery), but she'll spend the best part of three years getting paid to do little other than when she's promoting Fighting With My Family. Eventually she starts getting a hankering to try wrestling again, negotiating her release by January 2022 and making her in-ring debut in AEW nearly 5 years since her last match in November '22.

JANUARY 2018

Who's that jumping out the sky?

MAIN EVENTS - SMACKDOWN

6th-8th in Jackson, Mobile and Montgomery we start the AJ Styles vs Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn WWE title handicap match that will highlight the Rumble. Still confuses me that there wasn’t a tag title run for Owens & Zayn at this time. Both crews run Texas - 13th the first night in Hidalgo it’s Styles vs Owens vs Zayn but next night in the same building it’s Styles vs Zayn vs Randy Orton vs Jinder Mahal vs Shinsuke Nakamura in a five way before 15th in Corpus Christi Styles vs Zayn goes inside a cage - repeating 20th/21st in Florence and Greenville. 27th (Rumble Saturday) it’s Styles vs Kev in a cage in Richmond, Monday in Newark it reverts to Zayn.

THE CARDS

Settled week 1. Shinsuke Nakamura vs Jinder Mahal is note perfect as a “big win” over the last WWE Champion for Shinsuke on the way to his next main event run. Bobby Roode vs Baron Corbin continues. Title matches are The Usos vs New Day vs Rusev & Aiden English vs Chad Gable & Shelton Benjamin and Charlotte vs Carmella vs Natalya vs Tamina, there’s also The Bludgeon Brothers vs Tyler Breeze & Fandango, Sin Cara vs Mojo Rawley and twice Becky Lynch & Naomi vs Ruby Riott & Sarah Logan. In Texas we get two rounds of Nakamura & Randy Orton beating Jinder and The Singh Brothers in a handicap, Charlotte/Lynch/Naomi vs Nattie/Mella/Tamina vs Riott/Logan/Liv MorganZack Ryder, Sin Cara and Breezango facing Mojo, Mike Kanellis, Primo & Epico and repeats of Roode v Corbin and the tag title 4way. In the Carolinas we switch to Roode vs Jinder and Usos vs Gable & Benjamin in the title matches and Charlotte/Naomi/Becky are back winning the handicap over Nattie/Mella/Tamina/Lana, Tye Dillinger vs Kanellis is also back on plus there’s Bludgeons vs Colons vs The Ascension, Day (New) vs Day (Rusev) and Nakamura once again slumming it with Corbin.

VARIATIONS

Ruby has Montgomery off ; naturally Liv is her replacement. Second night in Hidalgo, it’s Roode vs Corbin vs Dolph Ziggler, Charlotte vs Nattie for the belt goes into the cage, the Usos defend vs Rusev Day vs The Bludgeons, and its Lynch & Naomi vs Mella & Lana vs Riott & Logan and New Day vs Gable & Benjamin. In Corpus Christi Ryder knocks off Kanellis and Harper & Rowan beat Breeze and Dango. Unique to Richmond are Usos vs New Day 2 on 2, Zayn vs Sin Cara, the Ryder vs Rawley grudge match and Breezango vs Rusev Day. Post Rumble in Newark there’s Orton & Nakamura vs Rusev Day, Roode vs Corbin vs Jinder, Ziggler vs Sin Cara, New Day vs Breezango, Bludgeons vs Ascension, Ryder & Dillinger vs Mojo & Kanellis and Gable vs Jey Uso in singles. Not that another tag would have been out of place - five, including the women’s handicap.

MAIN EVENTS - RAW

Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins & Jason Jordan vs Samoa Joe & The Bar is our week 1 main 5th-7th in Evansville, Cape Girardeau and West Plains. 12th-14th in Amarillo, Wichita Falls and Waco Reigns & Rollins win a handicap over The Miz, Curtis Axel & Bo Dallas as an extension of the ICT feud, repeating 19th-21st in Reading, State College and Binghamton. 27th in Baltimore on Rumble Saturday Jordan returns for his last house show appearance to make it a six man - I suspect he didn’t do much.

THE CARDS

Loads of consistency this month. Week 1 it's Matt Hardy vs Bray Wyatt plus a three way of Sasha Banks & Bayley vs Alexa Bliss & Nia Jax vs Mandy Rose & Sonya Deville, CWT is Enzo Amore vs Cedric Alexander. Plus Asuka vs Alicia Fox and twice Apollo Crews, Goldust, Heath Slater & Rhino vs Karl Anderson, Luke Gallows, Bo Dallas & Curtis Axel. In Texas we add Finn Balor vs Elias, Braun Strowman vs Curt Hawkins, a tag of Sasha and Mickie James against Bliss & Jax, The Bar beating Crews & Titus O’Neil, Asuka is back beating Dana Brooke, Hardy/Wyatt and Enzo/Cedric continue. Week 3, Hawkins is losing to Goldie before asking for a second match and after Braun squashes Hawkins Kane waddles out but for some reason Strowman only beats him by DQ. A women’s title match returns - Bliss vs Bayley vs Mickie, Asuka now teams with Dana to beat Fire & Desire, The Revival are back to winning ways against Slater & Rhino, Titus Worldwide are winning three ways over The Bar and The Club for some reason (insert bar/club joke), it’s still Balor vs Elias.

VARIATIONS

In Cape Girardeau that 8-man is a four way tag won by Slater & Rhino in the only change in week 1. Baltimore has the big one - Brock Lesnar warms up for the Rumble with a one on one defence vs Kane. Also Cedric beats Drew Gulak and The Bar win a unique 3way over Gallows & Anderson and Slater & Rhino.

MAIN EVENTS - NXT

5th/6th in Spartangburg and Charlotte is a bit B show - Kyle O'Reilly & Bobby Fish vs Kassius Ohno & Aleister Black for the tag belts is the biggest match. 11th in Winter Haven there's a four way of Street Profits vs Heavy Machinery vs Wesley Blake & Steve Cutler vs Riddick Moss & Tino Sabbatelli won by the Profits, then 12th/13th they're getting shots at reDRagon in Fort Pierce and Tampa. 18th in St Petersburg the Profits tag with Johnny Gargano to go on last opposite Velveteen Dream and Authors Of Pain, then 20th in Sebring Gargano & Ohno vs TM61 might be the biggest match, a 20 minute time limit draw 7th out of 10 matches. 25th in Albany Gargano vs Dream goes on last, next night in Toms River NJ Gargano & Roderick Strong beat Dream and.. the champ, Andrade, who's been otherwise invisible on the road this month.

B shows (C shows?) in week 1 have Eric Young, Alexander Wolfe & Killian Dain vs Adrian Jaoude & Authors Of Pain 5th in Crystal River, then vs the three Forgotten Sons lads Chad Lail, Wesley Blake & Steve Cutler 6th in Largo.

THE CARDS

In the Carolinas it's Johnny Gargano vs Velveteen Dream, Roderick Strong vs Lars Sullivan, Ember Moon & Aliyah vs Shayna Baszler & Bianca Belair, Street Profits vs Riddick Moss & Tino Sabbatelli, Nikki Cross vs Lacey Evans and No Way Jose vs Fabian Aichner. Also, Heavy Machinery vs TM61 repeats in Crystal River and Tampa as does Kassius Ohno vs Aichner in Fort Pierce and Toms River and Cross vs Taynara Conti in Winter Haven and Toms River.

VARIATIONS - SELECTED

In Crystal River - Buddy Murphy vs Raul Mendoza, Vanessa Borne vs Jessie Elaban and Abbey Laith & Conti vs Reina Gonzalez & Sage Beckett. In Largo - Machinery beat Authors of Pain, Borne pins Conti and Laith & Elaban beat Gonzalez & Beckett. In Winter Haven - Gargano vs Kona Reeves, Dream vs No Way Jose, Aleister Black vs Marcel Barthel and Moon & Elaban vs Baszler & Borne. In Fort Pierce - Gargano vs Moss, Moon vs Beckett and Baszler vs Aliyah. In Tampa - Strong vs Aichner, Black vs Sabbatelli, Gonzalez vs Laith and Elaban vs Beckett. In St Petersburg - Kyle O'Reilly & Bobby Fish vs Machinery, Moon vs Borne, Roderick Strong tags with Big Boa to lose to Aichner & Barthel and Baszler vs Gonzalez. In Sebring - Black vs Murphy, Moon & Cross vs Baszler & Evans, Mendoza vs Aichner and Belair vs Aliyah. In Albany - Strong vs Adam Cole, Black vs Aichner, Moon vs Baszler for the belt (DQ finish), AoP vs Profits, Ohno vs Barthel and Kairi Sane vs Evans. Finally in Toms River - Black vs Cole, Moon & Sane vs Baszler & Evans, reDRagon lose non title to AoP, Profits beat TM61.

TVs

1st, NXT tape Tvs at Center Stage Theatre in Atlanta. For a dark opener, Mrs Johnny Gargano Candice LeRae goes over Vanessa, and of personal interest Luscious Latasha, who I had a fair few beverages with in one of my trips to Tokyo, shows up to do a job for Belair. Same night in Miami - maybe they didn't want to split the Florida audience? - Raw is topped with Strowman beating Kane dark. Next night on Orlando Rawley beats Ryder at the start of the taping and Styles/Roode/Nakamura beat Jinder/Owens/Zayn at the end. 8th Raw in Memphis the pseudo-Shield of Reigns/Rollins/Jordan lose to "Balor Club" of Balor/Anderson/Gallows and after Joe beats Rhino he announces entry to the Rumble and claims John Cena will be the first man he eliminates, but this is the end of Joe's January as he sustains a foot injury which will rule him out of the Rumble and Mania. For the second year in a row, this scuppers a proposed Joe vs Cena match for Mania. Next night in Birmingham - dry run of the Mixed Match Challenge concept? - Jimmy Uso and mrs Naomi beat Corbin & Tamina before the show, and oddly Roode and both Usos beat Jinder, Gable and Benjamin after it. 16th SmackDown in Laredo has Roode beat Jinder to win the US title tournament, and as well as starting the MMC proper, after the show there's a KFC Colonel Rumble. Really. 22nd there are actually two shows recorded at the Barclays towards Raw's 25th Anniversary show including a live portion and Main Event taping - Goldust vs Hawkins and Itami & Akira Tozawa vs Gulak & Tony Nese are untelevised and Reigns loses the ICT back to Miz. Next night in Washington Rawley vs Dillinger and Orton vs Corbin are our last dark matches before the Rumble. The Rumble itself is by and large successful - we'd best forget Lesnar vs Strowman vs Kane and the winners of the Rumbles were predictable (I netted £70 on Betfair on the double) but the Rumbles are great fun - Cole and Andrade are the surprise entrants from NXT to the mens and Rey Mysterio makes his very welcome return. The first womens Rumble is chock full of nostalgia and fun... as well as Ember and Kairi from NXT, there's the fun of Lita, Torrie Wilson, Molly Holly, Michelle McCool, Vickie Guerrero, Kelly Kelly (yawn), Jacqueline, Beth Pheonix and The Bella Twins showing up, and best of all, Trish Stratus at number 30. What a moment that was. But the moment that has everyone talking, even though she'll be fighting neither Charlotte nor Alexa at Mania, is the arrival of Ronda Rousey. TVs thereafter start Elimination Chamber qualifiers plus the start of a Cruiserweight title tournament (see below) and SmackDown in Philadelphia has Naomi vs Natalya as a dark opener.

NON TITLE WHINING

Beaten on TV this month : Alexa (Raw Womens Champion) by Asuka, Styles (WWE CHAMPION) BY Zayn.

DEPARTURES

Enzo Amore is let go the day after police reveal he's under investigation for rape. The investigation concludes in May with insufficient evidence to take him to trial, but he won't be back. Short of making a spectacle of himself at Survivor Series, getting himself blacklisted from the Staples Center in the process. Jason Jordan wrestles his last house show matches, and indeed matches of any kind this month. His non-participation in the tag title loss at the Rumble is because he needs neck surgery. Initially the prognosis is for a year out, but he never wrestles again. A real loss as he had both athleticism and charisma, according to Kurt Angle they were going all the way with him - the "Kurt's son" storyline was originally planned to result in Angle vs Jordan at Mania 34.

If you like ropey mobile footage - and you know I do - here's Lesnar vs Kane. Probably watch it on mute though, you don't need weird chopped up commentary from random TV broadcasts taking you out of it.

WHO gets to be Colonel?? Enjoy!

FEBRUARY 2018

Welcome back to, still un-officially at "press time", the UKFFs favourite thread in 2023. Don't worry, I don't think Frankie would Cody me out of it.

MAIN EVENTS - SMACKDOWN

4th/5th it’s still AJ Styles vs Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn in North Little Rock and Springfield MO, likewise 10th-12th in Sacramento, Oakland and Stockton and 17th-19th in Lubbock, Rio Rancho and El Paso. We move on to four-ways with the somewhat conspicuous Baron Corbin 24th-26th in Denver, Ontario and San Diego.

THE CARDS

Randy Orton & Shinsuke Nakamura vs Rusev & Aiden English continues in week 1 as do the multi-person title runs - Bobby Roode vs Baron Corbin vs Jinder Mahal for the UST (which recurs in Sacramento), The Usos vs New Day vs Chad Gable & Shelton Benjamin for the tag straps (repeats in San Diego) and Charlotte vs Natalya vs Carmella vs Lana for the Women’s belt (reprisal in El Paso). 8 match cards also have Becky Lynch & Naomi vs The Riott Squad (see below), Zack Ryder vs Mike Kanellis and The Bludgeon Brothers vs Tyler Breeze & Fandango. In Cali the women’s title becomes a 5way with Lynch added in, the Usos get a break and there’s twice Roode vs Jinder. There’s two rounds each of Nakamura vs Dolph Ziggler, New Day vs Primo & Kanellis and Tye Dillinger vs Mojo Rawley, still Bludgeons vs Breezango. In the desert states Ziggler continues getting back in the swing wrestling (though not always beating) Sin Cara (which rolls back round in San Diego), the Usos defend in a couple of four ways vs New Day, the Bludgeon boys and Gable & Benjamin, twice there’s a scaled back Charlotte vs Mella vs Lana, Ryder & The Ascension vs Mojo, Kanellis & Primo, plus returns to Orton & Nakamura vs Rusev Day (further reprisal in San Diego) and Roode vs Corbin vs Jinder every night and two rounds of Lynch & Naomi vs a now settled Ruby & Liv. Month end The Usos’ new four-way is vs New Day vs Rusev Day vs Alpha 2.0, it’s finally Charlotte/Lynch/Naomi, there’s Sin Cara vs Kanellis and back to Roode vs Jinder, Nakamura vs Ziggler, Bludgeons vs Breezango and Dillinger vs Rawley.

VARIATIONS

On the 5th Riott & Logan lose to Becky & Naomi. In Stockton all three New Day beat Ziggler, Mojo & Primo, Dillingers back with Kanellis and Nakamura with Corbin. Zack is the extra man in San Diego - he and Dillinger lose to Mojo & Mike.

MAIN EVENTS - RAW

Roman Reigns & Seth Rollins vs Elias & The Bar is a bit random 2nd-4th in Salina KS, Lincoln and Omaha. 9th/10th in Saskatoon and Calgary The Shield challenge The Bar (DQ finish) then 11th they’re all the way back down in Fresno for… Roman Reigns vs John Cena! 16th in Portland OR it’s an extremely random Reigns vs Elias main, next night in Eugene Roman/Seth again fail to regain the tag straps, 18th I’m sure Prescott Valley AZ is the smallest town to ever host Reigns vs Cena (the venue holds 5100 today). 23rd/24th it’s again Reigns vs Elias in Vancouver and Everett WA.

THE CARDS

Asuka & Bayley vs Alexa Bliss & Nia Jax is the Women’s match, The Revival vs Heath Slater & Rhino is twice followed by Slater issuing an open challenge for another match and getting flattened by Braun Strowman. Two runs continued from last month are Matt Hardy vs Bray Wyatt and Goldust vs Curt Hawkins (repeating in Eugene), plus Finn Balor vs Bo Dallas is another oddly low profile run for the first Universal Champion. Cedric Alexander vs Jack Gallagher and Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows vs Titus O’Neil & Apollo Crews round off 9-match cards in week 1. Both Omaha and Eugene have Hawkins be the open challenge that Braun answers. In Canada we have Bliss vs Bayley vs Jax for the title plus Sasha Banks & Mickie James vs Mandy Rose & Sonya Deville, Strowman vs Elias (reprises in Prescott), the Club/OG now beat Dallas & Curtis Axel (repeats in Portland), there’s Hideo Itami vs TJP and Hardy v Wyatt and Dash & Dawson v Rhino/Slater continue. Bullet Club/Slater/Rhino beating Revival & Miztourage sandwiches week 3, repeating in Fresno and Everett. Seth Rollins & Balor challenge the Bar in Fresno, Portland and Prescott Valley, also in week 3 there’s twice Alexa vs Sasha for the title and Asuka & Mickie vs Absolution, and Akira Tozawa vs Tony Nese all three nights. Month end the cards look a bit bare, the same tag title match continues (decent) but new matches have Asuka only beating Nia by count out, Gran Metalik & Kalisto vs Ariya Daivari & Drew Gulak was probably watchable but hardly screams “marquee,” underneath the same pile of meandering tag teams, the everlasting Matt vs Wyatt and again Goldust vs Hawkins.

For reasons unknown The Miz and the ICT are too good for house shows these days. Don't worry, he's on telly... see below.

VARIATIONS

In Portland there’s Goldust & Titus Worldwide vs Hawkins & Revival. In Eugene, Balor vs Elias is back on plus it’s “Bullet Club Worldwide” vs Revival & Miztourage and two matches combine in Asuka/Mickie/Sasha vs Alexa/Mandy/Sonya. In Prescott Valley all the undercard combines for a 10 man cluster - Goldie, Titus Worldwide, Doc & Karl beat Hawkins, Revival & Miztourage. Unique to Vancouver Slater & Rhino get a welcome win over Axel & Dallas, and Anderson & Gallows beat The Revival, which I’d like to have seen.

MAIN EVENTS - NXT

3rd/4th in Nashville and Knoxville we set the table - it’s Johnny Gargano & Candice LeRae vs Andrade & Zelina Vega. 8th in Dade City Aleister Black vs Buddy Murphy goes on last, next night in Daytona Beach a top contenders battle royal opens and Kyle O’Reilly & Bobby Fish vs Heavy Machinery closes, then next night in Casselberry (10 miles from Orlando) Andrade defends against Raul Mendoza, who had won that battle royal. 15th in Tampa it’s again House Of Black exploding, 16th in Jacksonville Andrade vs No Way Jose stands out, highlighting the gulf in their relative fortunes since debut, 17th in Cocoa Roderick Strong vs Adam Cole goes on last. Through Ontario 22nd-24th we’re back to Johnny Wrestling and his Mrs beating the champ and the former Rosita in Mississauga, St Catharines and Peterborough.

B shows - a lonely Largo on 3rd is nevertheless crammed with talent, a nine match card including three tags and a four way dance is topped by Street Profits vs Wesley Blake & Steve Cutler. 22nd in St Petersburg the Profits challenge Kyle O’Reilly & Bobby Fish for the titles, next night in St Augustine the Sons get their shot, 24th in Bartow it’s an ugly sounding Kassius Ohno & Heavy Machinery vs Lars Sullivan, Riddick Moss & Tino Sabbatelli.

THE CARDS

Settled first two nights see Adam Cole, Kyle O’Reilly & Bobby Fish vs Eric Young, Alexander Wolfe & Killian Dain, once again Aleister Black vs Velveteen Dream and Ember Moon vs Bianca Belair for the belt (repeating in Mississauga), Kassius Ohno vs Roderick Strong plus Nikki Cross & Dakota Kai vs Shayna Baszler & Lacey Evans and No Way Jose vs Cezar Bononi. Brennan Williams vs Christopher Dijak repeats in Dade City and Bartow, TM61 vs Riddick Moss & Tino Sabbatelli happens in both Largo and St Petersburg, Cross vs Aliyah straddles two loops repeating in Cocoa and Mississauga. Near equal consistency to week 1 in Canada has Young & Wolfe vs Authors Of Pain - look who’s here - Ricochet vs Buddy Murphy, twice each of Ember vs Cross vs Aaliyah for the belt, Dain vs Marcel Barthel, Roddy back with Fabian Aichner and a return to Black vs Dream every night. Down in Florida there’s twice Kairi Sane vs Rhea Ripley.

VARIATIONS - HIGHLIGHTS

Largo has Sane & Jessie Elaban vs Reina Gonzalez & Sage Beckett and Ripley vs Aliyah. Dade City see Strong vs Raul Mendoza, AoP vs TM61, Sane vs Vanessa Borne and Candice LeRae & Aliyah vs Belair & Gonzalez. In Daytona, Baszler vs Ripley and Kai vs Gonzalez. Unique to Casselberry are a huge six man of Johnny Gargano & Heavy Machinery vs all 3 Undisputed Era, Strong vs Moss, Forgotten Sons vs Ohno & Jeet Rama, LeRae vs Evans and Elaban vs Beckett. Tampa get another big six man - Era vs all three Forgotten Sons, Blake, Cutler and Chad Lail, Ohno vs Shane Thorne of TM61, Ripley vs Elaban and Belair vs Beckett. Jacksonville get Black vs Mendoza, Sons vs AoP vs Profits vs Machinery, Cross vs Kai, Ohno & Strong vs Bononi & Adrian Jaoude and Baszler vs Zeda. In Cocoa it’s reDRagon vs AoP for the belts, Machinery vs Aichner & Barthel, Mendoza vs Murphy and Sane & LeRae vs Belair & Borne. St Petersburg, Cole vs Ohno, Machinery vs Sons, Borne vs Elaban and Baszler vs Abbey Laith. Swaps in St Catharines have Barthel over Aichner and again Dain beating Strong. St Augustine see Ohno losing to Lars Sullivan yet again and Elaban vs Zeda, finally in Bartow it’s Profits vs TM61, Baszler vs Ripley and Gonzalez vs Laith.

I still don’t get why developmental talents are thrown around so many different matches instead of getting their routines and timing down against the same opponent every night like the old days. Or, often, without a regular role as the defined heel or face in their matches for many of them yet to be used regularly on TV.

TVs

1st we have the first of two nights of NXT tapings back at Center Stage Theatre, Atlanta - the Profits beat Aichner & Mendoza (sounds fun) dark, then highlights of the tapings are Sanity beating the Era in a tornado six-man, Pete Dunne retaining the UK belt over Roddy, and the first of the superb Andrade vs Gargano title matches. Next night John Skyler loses to Ohno dark then on the shows proper, Tyler Bate loses to Dream, Ricochet debuts beating Aichner and Aly becomes top contender to the belt. 5th Raw Vanessa Floyd (Savanna Stone) does a job for Nia, next night Becky vs Nattie and Styles & Nakamura vs Jinder & Corbin sandwich the televised matches. 12th in San Jose Alexa vs Asuka for the belt is a dark main (Asuka hasn't made her Mania choice yet), next night in Bakersfield Dillinger vs Kanellis and AJ vs Jinder for the belt are our bonuses. 19th Raw in Phoenix is a televised match that probably isn't talked about enough - a near 2 hour gauntlet match between all the Elimination Chamber participants which to be fair threatens to overshadow the Chamber itself. In some of the most obvious "red herring" booking you can imagine, Reigns is the first out to Rollins, who spends over an hour in the ring including pinning Cena before being ousted by Elias - in the end Braun emerges last, pinning Miz, fooling absolutely nobody that anyone other than Reigns is winning the Chamber to challenge Lesnar. For some reason (and this wasnt the only match) they decide the crowd havent seen enough wrestling and Hardy vs Wyatt as the dark main likely sent many scurrying to the car park. Next night the Usos beat Rusev Day before the tapings and Roode & Nakamura vs Kev & Sami goes on last. The Chamber PPV features Asuka labouring to beat Nia then choosing to challenge Charlotte, Ronda Rousey making another memorable appearance and a terribly predictable win for Roman inside the main event Chamber, but for me the most interesting developments are in the womens Chamber where Sasha - having already eliminated her mate from last month's Rumble - ostensibly betrays Bayley and affects full-blown heel mannerisms on route to both falling in defeat to Alexa. Incredibly, as perfect a setup as this seems to a full blown split and ideally match at Mania, the office decides (depending which Observer you believe) that either they have enough matches for Mania already, or - get a load of this - that they don't have time to effectively build the match. What a fucking joke THAT is after the last two PPVs. Still, they will interact on the night... hmm. Next night in Anaheim Reigns & Cena vs The Bar (non title, obvs) is the Coliseum main, and finally next night at the Staples Center, Dillinger vs Mojo and Orton vs Jinder are the dark matches, the broadcast has another excellent entry to Styles vs Cena, as John's desperation to get on the Mania card intensifies after missing out on a crack at Brock at the PPV. Honestly, "John Cena's path to WrestleMania is not clear" was one of the most risible stories they did around this time. The size and length of a Mania show by now, as if a star like Cena had to scrap desperately to get a match on the card. Fucking laughable stuff.

NON TITLE WHINING

Beaten on TV this month : The Miz, obviously (Intercontinental champ) by Cena, again by Rollins, AGAIN (on the same fucking night) by Balor, AJ (WWE CHAMPION) by Cena.

DEPARTURE

I missed the suspension of Rich Swann on a previous post (for a domestic violence arrest) - this is the month he's released.

I know its on a phone in portrait but still... Cena vs Reigns

LIKE AND SUBSCRIBE.

MARCH 2018

Some fucking whacky stuff again this month! Exactly the kind of random finds I started the thread for.

MAIN EVENTS - SMACKDOWN

3rd-5th it’s still AJ Styles vs Kevin Owens vs Sami Zayn vs Baron Corbin for the WWE title in Moline, Cedar Rapids and LaCrosse, then again 10th in (LOL) Corbin KY and 12th at the Nutter Center in Fairborn (suburban Dayton), site of King of the Ring 93. Into week 3 AJs suffered an injury which has them wrapping him in cotton wool so he can make Mania - scheduled tag mains are shuffled to Shinsuke Nakamura & Randy Orton beating Kev & Sami in streetfights 17th-19th in Odessa, San Angelo and Cedar Park. Week after they’re easing him back - AJ tags with all three New Day against Chad Gable, Shelton Benjamin, Rusev & Aiden English in Trenton, Fairfax and Indiana PA. 31st in Huntington he’s back defending the title, against Corbin.

THE CARDS

Bobby Roode vs Randy Orton with a non finish is a new US title run week 1 (Orton defending and winning in Fairborn), and Shinsuke Nakamura vs Dolph Ziggler is still going as is The Usos vs New Day vs Rusev & Aiden English vs Chad Gable & Shelton Benjamin (repeating in Fairborn) though the Women’s title match is now Charlotte vs Natalya vs Ruby Riott. There’s Jinder Mahal vs Sin Cara and huge 9 match cards in Moline and Cedar Rapids are rounded off by Becky Lynch & Naomi vs Carmella & Lana vs Liv Morgan & Sarah Logan and continuations of Tye Dillinger vs Mojo Rawley and Tyler Breeze & Fandango vs The Bludgeon Brothers. LaCrosse and Fairborn both see the two women’s matches combined into a 9-woman three way tag, consistent to both shows in week 2 are the Bludgeons vs The Ascension, Zack Ryder & Breezango beating Mojo, Primo and Mike Kanellis and still Nakamura vs Ziggler. In Texas US title rivals Roode, Jinder and Corbin contest three ways won by Bobby, tag title is Usos vs Rusev Day vs Chad & Shelts, and the Charlotte vs Ruby title match breaks down leading to Flair/Lynch/Naomi vs Riott/Morgan/Logan “impromptu.” Three identical shows are complete with more rounds of Harper & Rowan vs Konnor & Viktor, and Zack/Tyler/Dango vs Mojo/Mike/Primo. In Corbin it’s back to Roode/Jinder which resumes in week 4 where we also return to Nakamura/Corbin, the Usos start regular defences against the Bludgeons but only beat them by DQ, Breeze beats Dillinger in singles, Sin Cara/Ascension beat Mojo/Primo/Kanellis and it’s back to Naomi/Becky vs Mella/Lana.

VARIATIONS

LaCrosse is compressed from the two nights prior - as well as the women’s 3 on 3 on 3, and Mojo/Bludgeons beat Dillinger/Breezango. Unique to Corbin the tag title shrinks to Usos vs New Day vs Alpha 2.0, Riotts get a night off leaving Charlotte/Becky/Naomi vs Nattie/Mella/Lana and Dillinger does his latest job to Rusev - in Fairborn, Tye inspects the lights for Jinder. Unique to Huntington are Orton vs Roode vs Jinder, Usos vs Gable & Benjamin and New Day vs Rusev Day 2 on 2.

MAIN EVENTS - RAW

2nd in Kalamazoo we have another of the bizarre Roman Reigns vs Elias main events before 3rd/4th in Chicago (United Center) and Rockford it’s John Cena doing the honours again for The Big Dog. 9th in Minneapolis we have another of Reigns & Seth Rollins challenging The Bar (hometown Beast Incarnate underneath) then we’re already back to Ontario - 10th/11th it’s Reigns, Rollins & Finn Balor beating The Miz, Bo Dallas & Curtis Axel in Oshawa and London (at the wonderfully named Budweiser Gardens, home of the London Knights hockey team). Technically that same match goes atop a huge 9 match show 16th at MSG though Cena (and his Mrs) AND the champ both wrestle underneath, 17th in Tulsa - what madness is this? - The Miz vs John Cena vs Roman Reigns vs Elias… for the Intercontinental title? Next night in Oklahoma City the super babyface team of Cena, Reigns and, umm, Elias, LOSE to the might of Miztourage. Back to that six man (and back to Ontario) 23rd in Toronto, next night in Kitchener Braun Strowman swaps in for Balor before 25th in Buffalo Seth & Finn win it as a handicap - Romans a bit busy wrestling Cena just before intermission. 30th in Boston Brock Lesnar vs Kane vs Braun Strowman is on again as per MSG with Reigns vs Elias underneath, we finish as we started with Roman vs Elias on last 31st in North Charleston.

THE CARDS

It’s twice more the interminable Braun Strowman vs Kane, in Illinois it’s still The Bar vs Seth Rollins & Finn Balor for the tag belts, no end in sight for Matt Hardy vs Bray Wyatt either. Asuka, Sasha Banks, Bayley & Mickie James vs Alexa Bliss, Nia Jax, Mandy Rose & Sonya Deville is both new and fun sounding. It’s twice each Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows vs Bo Dallas & Curtis Axel, The Revival vs Rhino & Heath Slater and a four way of Mustafa Ali vs Ariya Daivari vs Lince Dorado vs Jack Gallagher completing week 1. Week 2, Strowman vs Elias picks back up from Chicago, the Bar are back defending the belts against “Balor Club” in Canada where V1 finally moves on from Wyatt to Goldust, it’s Cedric Alexander vs TJP and Apollo Crews vs Curt Hawkins three nights in a row, Revival are still swapping wins with Slater & Rhino and twice it’s Alexa vs Sasha vs Bayley (which recurs at MSG). Bliss vs Banks for the title straddles two loops in Oshawa and Oklahoma state, and at the latter two shows we gain Asuka & Bayley beating Fire & Desire, including MSG there’s three nights of Cedric vs Drew Gulak, OK is back to Rollins & Balor chasing the Bar and somewhat depressingly both Braun vs Kane and Hardy vs Wyatt sputter back to life - the former repeats in North Charleston and the latter recurs in Toronto too. Week 4 there are two returns to Bliss vs Bayley for the gold, two rounds of The Bar vs Club vs Titus O'Neil & Apollo, two nights of Asuka beating Sonya either side of dropping Mandy in Kitchener as she did at the Garden, two nights of Ariya vs Tony Nese vs Gran Metalik vs Kalisto and two further rounds of Strowman vs Elias, Goldust vs Hawkins and Revival vs Slater & Rhino. From Toronto into month end The Bar defend 2 on 2 against Worldwide, week 5 is also where we find Rollins vs Balor going 1-1 on the way to Mania, Akira Tozawa vs Gallagher, Slater/Rhino/Club vs Revival/Miztourage and repeats of Bliss vs Banks and Asuka vs Deville.

VARIATIONS

In Kalamazoo someone’s still off, it’s Rollins vs Cesaro one on one, plus that 205 fourway is a tag won by Ali & Daivari. Big one in Chicago, Brock Lesnar crushes Kane and two undercard tags are combined into an 8man. In Minneapolis Lesnar, the king of exceptions, splatters The Miz in his announced hometown in a match I didnt know I needed to see until today. In Oshawa only Alexa vs Sasha goes to a DQ leading the old impromptu tag where struggling friends Sasha & Bayley beat Bliss and Mickie. MSG is fucking crackers. Brock defends the U belt in that Rumble rematch, John Cena & Nikki Bella work Elias & Sonya… no, you haven’t got your years confused, we are NOT building to Cena/Bella vs Miz & Mrs! There’s also Bar vs New Day vs Club vs Titus Worldwide for the belts and Shinsuke Nakamura vs Sami Zayn borrowed from Smackers - scheduled as Shinsuke & AJ vs Zayn & Kev but they did an injury angle to excuse Styles because as you read above - he’s actually injured. They threw a lot at it to draw, according to a Torch report, between 12-13 thou in the “not quite full” region. Should have called Punk!  Unique to Tulsa is Titus Worldwide vs Revival vs Bullet Club ; Doc and Karl get the night after off so it’s 2 on 2 in Oklahoma City - O’Neil & Crews win both matches. In Toronto instead of a four way Lucha House Party beat Nese & Daivari. In Kitchener it’s Alexa & Mickie vs Bayley & Dana Brooke and a one night return to Balor vs Elias. Unique to Buffalo is Goldust/Slater/Rhino vs Hawkins/Revival.

MAIN EVENTS - NXT

We still have the big mixed tag of Johnny Gargano & Candice LeRae vs Andrade & Zelina Vega 1st-3rd in Columbus, Cleveland and Royal Oak MI before 4th in Indiannapolis Johnny Wrestling knocks off the champ in a non title match (boo). 8th in Dade City there's Pete Dunne vs Oney Lorcan for the UK title but Kari Sane, Candice & Jessie Elaban vs Shayna Baszler, Vanessa Borne & Reina Gonzalez goes on last, next night in Citrus Springs Shayna doesn't work so it's Kairi & Candice vs The Iiconics followed by Dunne vs Marcel Barthel (Progress vibes), 10th in Fort Pierce Dunne's with Kassius Ohno and Kairi, Dakota Kai and Ember Moon knock off Baszler, Billie and Peyton.15th in Daytona Beach Pete vs Roderick Strong non title goes on last, next night in Sebring the Moon vs Baszler title match goes to a no contest, 17th in Largo its Ricochet vs Adam Cole. 22nd in Jacksonville Pete defends against Velveteen Dream, next night in Lakeland Ember defends against Lacey Evans, 24th in Tampa Ricochet vs Dream is on last. 29th in Cocoa its Ricochet vs Cole vs Dream vs Lars Sullivan for no apparent reason, 30th in St Augustine its Ohno & Mark Andrews vs Riddick Moss & Tino Sabbatelli on last, next night in Crystal River Kairi/Ember/Elaban beat Shayna/Billie/Peyton.

B shows - 1st in Ocala its again Ricochet vs Buddy Murphy, next night in Gainesville Ric' and Roderick Strong beat Riddick Moss & Tino Sabbatelli, 3rd in Orlando its a mixed six person of Sanity's Alexander Wolfe, Killian Dain & Nikki Cross vs Steve Cutler, Wesley Blake & Reina Gonzalez. I mean, all the shows at the guard armouries and community centers of Florida are B shows these days, but these are specficially the ones that clash with proper shows elsewhere....

THE CARDS

Aleister Black vs Veleveteen Dream rolls on. There are two instances in week 1 of Kyle O'Reilly & Bobby Fish vs Heavy Machinery for the tag belts plus two each of Adam Cole vs Christopher Dijak and Kassius Ohno vs Lars Sullivan - when Lars isn't beating Ohno, he beats Dijak. Kairi Sane vs Shayna Baszler repeatedly has a weird finish of Kairi getting herself DQd though Shayna does beat her in Indiannapolis, and there are two instances of Dakota Kai vs Lacey Evans. Candice LeRae vs Aliyah recurs in Fort Pierce and Sebring, Ricochet vs Raul Mendoza (tasty) repeats in Orlando and Citrus Springs, as does Buddy Murphy vs Mark Andrews in Citrus and Largo, and Black vs Kona Reeves in Sebring and St Augustine.

VARIATIONS - SELECTED (STILL EXHAUSTING)

Columbus - All Undisputed Era vs Ohno & Machinery. Ocala - Ember vs Reina Gonzalez, Roderick Strong vs Mendoza, Alexander Wolfe & Killian Dain vs Riddick Moss & Tino Sabbatelli, Aliyah vs Zeda. Cleveland - reDRagon vs Street Profits, Kairi vs Evans, Baszler vs Kai. Gainesville - Ember Moon vs Nikki Cross vs Aliyah, Murphy vs Mendoza, Vanessa Borne vs Abbey Laith. Orlando - Rod vs Marcel Barthel, Sage Beckett vs Zeda. Indiannapolis - Black vs Cole, Dream vs Dawkins, Candice vs Kai. Dade - EC3 vs Ohno, Young & Wolfe vs Machinery, Dream vs Moss, Kai vs Aliyah. Citrus - Dream vs Wolfgang, Kai vs Reina, Authors of Pain vs TM61. Fort Pierce - EC3 vs Mendoza, all 3 Sanity vs all 3 Forgotten Sons, Ricochet vs Andrews (ooo). Daytona - Murphy & Ricochet vs Wesley Blake & Steve Cutler, Candice vs Cross, AoP vs Cole & O'Reilly vs Young & Wolfe, Kairi vs Peyton, Andrews vs Mendoza. Sebring - Black vs Dijak, EC3 vs Trent Seven. Largo - Ember & Kairi vs The Iiconics, O'Reilly vs Eric Young, Reina loses to Xia Li. Jacksonville - Ricochet vs Moss, Andrews & Mendoza vs TM61, War Machine (hello) beat Adrian Jaoude & Cezar Bononi, Sane vs Borne, Shayna/Reina vs Ember & Jessie. Lakeland - Black vs Barthel, AoP vs Blake & Cutler, Borne vs Li. Tampa - Pete Dunne vs Murphy for the belt, LeRae vs Gonzalez, TM61 lose to Moss & Sabbatelli. Cocoa - Roddy vs Fabian Aichner again, Candice & Dakota vs Iiconics, Taynara Conti vs Elaban, EC3 vs No Way Jose. St Augustine - Kairi vs Conti, Profits vs Sons, War Machine vs TM61 (yes please), Jessie & Dakota vs Aliyah & Vanessa. Crystal River - Machinery vs TM61, Wolfe & Cross vs Chad Lail & Borne, Mendoza vs Jose

TVs

5th Raw in Milwaukee has a cool Cena vs Goldust match which is markedly more interesting than Reigns vs Kane as the dark main. Next night in suburban Green Bay, Big E & Woods vs Gable & Benjamin warms the crowd up, and Nakamura vs Rusev with a DQ finish is an odd way to send them home. Next day at Full Sail, Jose vs Barthel is an unused extra, Strong & Dunne vs AoP in the Dusty Classic final (to air right before TakeOver) goes to a no contest and Ricochet vs Dijak closes. 11th at Fastlane Orton wins the US title from Roode (how odd) and Styles retains in a fantastic but forgotten six way over Cena, Ziggler, Owens, Zayn and Corbin. Next night on Raw in Detroit Braun wins a battle royal to become number 1 contender to the tag belts despite not having a partner - ew, stinky. 13th SmackDown in Indiannapolis, Dillinger/Breezango beat Rawley/Gable/Benjamin the the opener, and Nakamura & Orton beat Ziggler & Corbin last. 19th Raw from Dallas Matt Hardy beats Bray in the "Ultimate Deletion." I've never watched it and I don't care what it is, to be honest. Next night in the same building Ryder/Breezango beat Rawley/Gable/Benjamin the the opener, and Nakamura & Roode beat Ziggler & Jinder last. 26th Raw in Cleveland Jamie Frost (Lady Frost) does a job for Asuka and Cena beats Kane no DQ on the show proper - who still cares about Kane?? Finally next night in Pittsburgh, Dillinger & Ryder beat Mojo & Kanellis first, and in a main event after cameras stop ... Corbin and Rusev Day lose a 3 vs 4 handicap match, apparently, to Styles, the Usos, and ref Danilo Anfibio (who wrestled without distinction as Dan Eckos). You probably have to watch it below to understand. Japes.

NON TITLE WHINING

Beaten on TV this month : Styles (WWE CHAMPION) in a five way vs Corbin, Ziggler, Owens and (winner) Zayn.

DEPARTURES

Sage Beckett is released on 8th, she retires so beating Zeda goes down as her last match. She never made the main roster but I've mentioned her lots here, likewise Abbey Laith is let go from her contract too - she continues to wrestle as Kimber Lee in Shimmer, Shine, Chikara, Stardom and virtually anywhere else worth wrestling including a couple of years in Impact before wrestling her last match in November 22 and announcing her retirement last May, still aged just 32. Personally I enjoyed her as Ashley Clementine the most, tagged with Orange Cassidy.

Less abrupt cut off at finish ;

Cena & Nikki ;

APRIL 2018

Welcome to a month where a whole slew more of British and Australasian talent start getting cheques, and Reigns is Lugered painfully hard, not once but twice. I despair.

MAIN EVENTS - SMACKDOWN

AJ Styles vs Baron Corbin rolls on 1st/2nd in Lexington and Knoxville. After Mania we're off with Styles vs Shinsuke Nakamura ; DQ finishes for low blows 21st-23rd in Johnson City, Chattanooga and Bowling Green KY.

THE CARDS

Shinsuke Nakamura vs Dolph Ziggler wraps before Mania, the last matches before Nakamura turns. Likewise its still Randy Orton vs Bobby Roode vs Jinder Mahal and The Usos vs Chad Gable & Shelton Benjamin plus the fun 9-woman 3-way of Charlotte, Becky Lynch & Naomi vs Natalya, Carmella & Lana vs Ruby Riott, Liv Morgan & Sarah Logan. Plus New Day vs Rusev & Aiden English and Tye Dillinger vs Mojo Rawley. Big changes post Mania - Jeff Hardy is back tagging with Orton to beat Rusev Day, after her cash in Mella defends against Charlotte and Becky (foreshadowing!), The Bludgeon Brothers are retaining over the Usos and New Day, Shelton's losing to Sin Cara, Naomi beats Lana and Big Cass is on the comeback trail going over Dillinger.

NO VARIATIONS!

MAIN EVENTS - RAW

1st in Macon we have a lone show before Mania - Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins & Finn Balor vs The Miz, Curtis Axel & Bo Dallas wraps. We're then off for four shows in South Africa - 18th in Cape Town (5000) it's Reigns vs Braun Strowman vs Elias. Next night (5000 again) it's Reigns vs Samoa Joe. 20th in Pretoria (6000) Reigns/Rollins/Balor drop Elias/Dallas/Axel then 21st in Johannesburg (13,000) Reigns & Braun tag against Joe and Elias.

THE CARDS

Nia Jax vs Sonya Deville or vs Mandy Rose occurs through South Africa and there's twice Seth Rollins & Finn Balor vs The Bar and twice where Sheamus & Cesaro are with Matt Hardy & Bray Wyatt, three rounds of Asuka vs Sasha Banks vs Bayley and Cedric Alexander vs Drew Gulak for the CWT every night. There's alternate nights of Titus O'Neil & Apollo Crews vs Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows and beating Curtis Axel & Bo Dallas

VARIATIONS

Macon wraps several runs - Bar vs Club vs Worldwide, Alexa Bliss vs Sasha in the last defence for now by "Five Feet Of Fury," Strowman vs Kane mercifully is over forever, as well as the last matches for now of Asuka vs Mandy, Rhino & Heath Slater vs The Revival and Akira Tozawa vs Jack Gallagher. Cape Town night 1 has Bray & Matt vs Bar vs Club, Rollins vs Balor for the ICT and Bayley vs Sasha. Night 2 Braun in back with Elias, Pretoria he's with Joe.

MAIN EVENTS - NXT

5th-8th in New Orleans there are four days of action at Axxess over the course of Mania weekend. It's a bit of a mess but the biggest match on Thursday is probably Keith Lee vs Kassius Ohno for the WWN title. Friday night the four contenders tournaments (!) continue and Pete Dunne vs Flash Morgan Webster (ew) goes on last. Saturday has a frankly absurd 30 matches from anyone not working TakeOver - although 10 of them have no winner so I suspect time limits involved, one of which being Ohno vs Walter (now Gunther). The afternoon of Mania a nutty 8 out of 10 matches have titles contested - on last is Adam Cole vs Akira Tozawa with Cole defending his North American title that he won the night before at TakeOver against the winner of that particular tournament. 13th in Venice is topped by Shayna Baszler vs Candice LeRae for the belt, next night in Cocoa a nearly 100% different crew has a new title match - Aleister Black vs Kona Reeves. Huh. Week 3 the big guns are off to the North East - its Aly & Ricochet vs Andrade & Velveteen Dream 20th in Bethlehem before the latest Black vs Almas title match 21st in Bel Air, then another tag 22nd in Johnstown. 26th in Orlando Black is on last with Chistopher Dijak, next night in Gainesville with newly-singles-wrestler Tino Sabbatelli - who 28th in Largo gets a huge win over the Dream.

B shows - 19th in Sanford Authors of Pain vs TM61 is back on, 20th in Jacksonville and 21st in Fort Pierce Roderick Strong vs Lio Rush goes on last.

CARDS - SPOTTY

Ricochet vs Velveteen Dream is back on in Cocoa and Bel Air. Midmonth in Florida has Street Profits vs TM61 both nights, Dawkins & Ford are with Wesley Blake & Steve Cutler in Pennsylvania. EC3 vs Kassius Ohno goes well for "Carter" in Pennsylvania but he loses to No Way Jose in Cocoa and Bel Air - it's already not looking great, is it? Jose beats Chad Lail in Pennsylvania. Kairi Sane & Nikki Cross vs Shayna Baszler & Lacey Evans repeats in PA where there's also Tommaso Ciampa vs Oney Lorcan and Candice LeRae vs Bianca Belair goes 1-1. Candice vs Billie Kay on both the Saturday and Sunday at Axxess. Lio Rush vs Buddy Murphy goes 1-1 on Thursday of Axxess in the UK title contenders tourney and in Venice. In Venice and Gainesville there's twice Vanessa Borne & Reina Gonzalez vs "Fly Kicks" - Dakota Kai & Nixon Newell (who will be Tegan Nox) - Wales' finest contribution to Our Great Sport in my eyes.

VARIATIONS - SOME OF

Thursday Axxess has womens contender tournament matches of Cross vs Aliyah and Sane vs Belair, tag tournament with Moustache Mountain vs Riddick Moss & Tino Sabbatelli, and North American title contenders with Akira Tozawa vs Kona Reeves. Friday sees Kai vs Evans, Peyton Royce vs Candice, Sons vs Alexander Wolfe & Eric Young and Hideo Itami vs Wolfgang in the relevant tourneys and in the UKT one Lince Dorado vs Raul Mendoza and Mark Andrews vs Zack Gibson plus Flash Morgan Webster beats Kona and "Jack Smith" (Jack Sexsmith) to earn the immediate shot at Dunne. Saturday - 30 fucking matches include.... Dakota beats Cross and Peyton beats Kairi before Kai beats Royce in the final... beforehand Dakota also finds time to beat Belair. Also before the final does Cross do a non-finish with Borne and before the days over Belair vs Cross and Billie vs Aliyah also end without winners. Mountain beat the Street Profits, TM61 beat the Sons then Trent & Tyler upset the Aussies in the final. Tozawa beats Fabian Aichner and Christopher Dijak upsets Itami, Tozawa beats Dijak in the final. Just two matches after Hideo loses, robbing us of the dream Tozawa vs Itami final, the pair of them wrestle no contest with Aichner & Marcel Barthel. Also - Lio Rush over Dorado and Drew Gulak over Andrews before Rush beats Gulak to win the UK contender tournament. Also of note are Sanity vs Sons & Borne in a mixed six person (yes, Nikki wrestled four times on Saturday) - no finish - Mendoza vs TJP - no finish - Buddy Murphy vs former partner Blake - no finish - and Catch Point retain the Evolve tag belts against Danny Burch & Lorcan. Sunday - tourney winners all get their cracks, Kyle O'Reilly & Bobby Fish beat Mountain, Pete Dunne beats Rush and the reward for Kai is losing to Shayna.. making you wonder what the point of it all was. Also Heavy Machinery retain the Progress tag belts over Grizzled Young Veterans of Gibson and James Drake, Toni Storm defends the Womens title over Lacey and Travis Banks defends the big belt over Jose, Keith Lee jobs for Lars Sullivan, and a certain Austin Theory defends the WWN belt that he's JUST won from Lee Friday night at Evolve 103 in nearby Kenner, against Barthel.

In Venice, newly rechristened War Raiders (because they already have Heavy Machinery) beat Burch & Lorcan plus Ricochet beats Lail. Cocoa see Rush vs Mendoza, Authors of Pain & Jessie Elaban vs Adrian Jaoude, Cezar Bononi & Taynara Conti, and Candice vs Aliyah. Bel Air get Baszler vs Cross, Tomasso Ciampa vs Ohno and LeRae & Sane vs Belair & Evans. In Sanford four out of six matches are women or at least mixed - Rush beats Kona, Ember Moon beats Borne, Reina Gonzalez beats (hello) Kacy Catanzaro, Tay, Bononi & Jaoude redeem themselves against Xia Li, Rocky & Big Boa and Fly Kicks beat Aliyah and the urredeemable Kavita Devi. In Jacksonville Sullivan beats Aichner, Nixon beats Borne and Dakota drops Taynara. In Fort Pierce, Fly Kicks beat The Iiconics (!), Reina upsets Rhea Ripley (!!) and Sabbatelli's solo run has him beating Mendoza. Orlando, Ricochet vs Ohno is the biggest undercard match, Adam Cole & O'Reilly beat TM61, there's Reina vs Elaban and Kai vs Belair vs Borne. Next night in Gainesville it's very decent - Ricochet vs Murphy, O'Reilly jobs to Lars, Dream vs Dijak, Raiders vs Aichner & Barthel, Mendoza vs Kona and Evans vs Elaban. Finally in Largo it's Shayna vs Nixon for the belt, Sane vs Conti, EC3 vs Dijak and there must be an injury or absence but still, why TM61 had to lose to thrown-together Otis and Montez is beyond me.

TVs

There are no dark matches on the go home Raw before Mania, 3rd SmackDown in Nashville starts with Naomi vs Ruby and ends with Orton/Usos vs Corbin/Rusev Day. An incident packed Take:Over New Orleans has Aly relieve Almas of the big belt, Cole win a multi man ladder match to win the North American title, Baszler beat Moon for the womens title, Roderick Strong turn on Dunne to join the Undisputed Era, and Johnny Gargano beat Ciampa in a belter which sadly doesnt end the feud. Too much happens at Mania itself to possibly recap everything worth mentioning but... Braun continues to make the tag division look worthless by winning the belts with a child as his partner, Charlotte and Asuka contest a belt, Daniel Bryan returns to wrestling, Nakamura turns heel after losing to Styles, The Undertaker squashes John Cena which is somewhat surprising, several other titles change, Ronda Rousey looks fantastic in her first ever match and, terribly, Brock Lesnar beats Roman in a terrible match that at over 15 minutes felt far longer. They allowed Reigns to endure four F5s in the ring but then rendered that all pointless by still beating him in the end. It accomplished nothing. On the pre show, Cedric wins the vacant Cruiserweight title and the Banks vs Bayley falling out that they ridiculously decreed they didn't have time to build a Mania match for boils over at the end of the Moolah Womens battle royal... which is pointlessly won by Naomi. Raw after Mania is non eventful apart from Bobby Lashley re-debuting and Ember showing up, SmackDown is markedly more interesting (as usual) with Lynch vs Riot and Nakamura vs Ziggler dark matches, Paige becoming the new GM and booking Styles vs Bryan (ruined by Shinsuke) and The Iiconics debuting, which I loved, causing Charlotte to get cashed on on by the hilarious Carmella. 11th at Full Sail there's a rare outing for Zelina Vega losing to Candice and Shazza McKenzie gets a cheque for losing to Kairi. They also tape Sabbatelli turning on Moss, which isn't going to go how they hope. 16th Raw in Hartford Jeff wins the UST from Jinder, next night in Providence SmackDown hosts a draft and dark matches of Dillinger vs Primo and Orton vs Nakamura (DQ finish). 24th SmackDown in Louisville The Bar continue their losing streak against New Day dark, the bonus main is Hardy vs Miz, and a couple of notable results on telly have the Iiconics beat Asuka & Becky, and the Singh bros cause Orton to lose a pin to Shelton. 27th in Jeddah "The Greatest Royal Rumble" blood money PPV has a bunch of incident - the last big Triple H vs John Cena match, Taker beats Rusev in a casket match (there's a crazy story behind that which I won't recount here), Bray & Matt win the vacant tag belts, Reigns loses to Lesnar AGAIN in a cage match with a crap finish (rubbishing many of our guesses that he didn't win at Mania because they promised it to the Saudis) and Braun wins a silly Rumble involving everyone from Chris Jericho and Kurt Angle to Mark Henry to Great Khali to Rey Mysterio to NXT guys to Hornswoggle a random fat lad called Hiroki Sumi who it doesn't look like wrestled again. Finally 30th Raw in Montreal, I simply have to make comment... the attempt to make Roman into a hero continues by having a monster team of him, Braun and Lashley go over Jinder.... Owens and Zayn. In Montreal. For fuck's sake! What were they thinking???

DEPARTURES

Macon is Kane's last road match. He's a politician now! He will appear again on the road in an official capacity in Feb 19 in the town he's mayor of, Knoxville - donating a cheque to a local charity on behalf of WWE in return for him actually being allowed to wrestle that dreadful Saudi tag. At least some good came out of it. Can we mention Chris Jericho again? The Blood Money Rumble is his last match for the company to date. Tino Sabbatelli turns on tag partner Moss and almost immediately suffers a torn pec ruling him out until 2020. That sucks.

MAY 2018

Later than usual, we have the annual European tour.

MAIN EVENTS - SMACKDOWN

7th in Allentown we have the first of AJ Styles, Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows vs Shinsuke Nakamura & The Bar which continues abroad 10th-14th in Oberhausen, Braunschweig, Bremen, Prague and Budapest. 16th-19th in Liverpool, Newcastle and Sheffield it starts as a Styles vs Nakamura WWE title match before a DQ and impromptu six man, then its again the advertised main 19th/20th in Amsterdam and Munich. 28th in Fayetteville AJ gets a rest so the main is North Carolina native Jeff Hardy defending the US title against Nakamura and Rusev.

THE CARDS

YES! YES! YES!... it's Daniel Bryan & Tye Dillinger vs The Miz & Big Cass through Europe (and Fayetteville) though on the three English legs it's the match we want, a straight Bryan vs Miz alongside Dillinger vs Cass (which started in Allentown). US and tag titles are unchanged - Jeff Hardy vs Rusev and The Bludgeon Brothers vs The Usos vs New Day every night of the tour. Sandwiching the month are Asuka, Becky Lynch & Naomi vs Lana & The Iiconics in Oberhausen and Fayetteville and Carmella vs Charlotte for the belt in those two towns plus Allentown.. inbetween there's a break for Flair as its Mella vs Becks for the belt and Asuka/Naomi beating the other three in a handicap until TVs - it's then Charlotte/Becky/Asuka/Naomi vs Mella, Lana, Sonya Deville & Mandy Rose in England and back to Lynch challenging in Amsterdam/Munich where Charlotte/Asuka/Naomi beat Lana & Fire & Desire. Too much sexy in that paragraph, really. It's Shelton Benjamin vs Sin Cara before TVs and in Fayetteville, Sin Cara losing to Andrade inbetween. After TVs there's an added Aleister Black vs Alexander Wolfe for the NXT belt, which feels like a good excuse to do Dutchman vs German in Amsterdam and Munich.

VARIATIONS

Unique to Allentown are Jeff vs Samoa Joe vs Shelton, Bludgeons vs Rusev & Aiden English vs New Day vs Usos and Asuka/Lynch/Naomi vs Lana/Mandy/Sonya. UK additions have Tyler Bate, Mark Andrews & Wolfgang beating James Drake, Dan Moloney & Sam Gradwell in Liverpool, then Joseph Conners, Saxon Huxley & Tyson T-Bone in Newcastle, and Drake/Gradwell/Conners in Sheffield. Only in Fayetteville its Club vs Bar 2 on 2

MAIN EVENTS - RAW

Also, as you'd expect, a Euro tour here - 9th/10th in Bournemouth and Belfast the ICT gets shine with Seth Rollins vs Finn Balor vs Bobby Roode vs Elias, before two big blokes matches are combined into a big six-man - Roman Reigns, Braun Strowman & Bobby Lashley vs Samoa Joe, Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn which is our main 11th-13th in Dublin, Zaragoza and Malaga then 15th-19th at the NEC and in Vienna, Geneva, Turin and Paris. 27th we're back in the States - it's Lashley & Strowman vs Sami & KO in Hampton.

THE CARDS

Roman Reigns vs Samoa Joe and Braun Strowman & Bobby Lashley vs Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn are our big matches the first two nights of the tour and when the ICT four way (which also repeats in Hampton) secedes from main, it moves to Seth Rollins vs Jinder Mahal as a straightforward run of singles defences, plus we move to Bobby Roode vs Elias and Finn Balor vs Baron Corbin (which also continues in Hampton). We move from two instances of Bray Wyatt & Matt Hardy vs The Revival for the tag belts (repeats in Hampton) to three ways with Drew McIntyre & Dolph Ziggler - the pair of them also beat Apollo Crews & TItus O'Neil in Bournemouth and Hampton. After TVs the decent teams put their feet up and for the rest of the tour the "Deleters Of Worlds" beat Rhino & Heath Slater and Bo Dallas & Curtis Axel. There are Womens title 3-ways of Nia Jax vs Alexa Bliss vs Bayley alongside a six-woman of Sasha Banks, Ember Moon & Natalya vs Ruby Riott, Liv Morgan & Sarah Logan, 8-woman tags in Spain of Sasha/Bayley/Ember/Nattie vs Alexa & The Riott Squad, then from Brum onwards its Nia vs Sasha vs Bayley vs Bliss until month end, and on the final mainland Europe legs Mickie James, Ruby and Liv lose to Moon, Natalya and Ronda Rousey. Before TVs there's often a ten man of No Way Jose, Tyler Breeze, Fandango & Titus Worldwide vs Curt Hawkins, Authors Of Pain & The Ascension (heels again) - what a dreadfully beige heel team THAT is - and after TVs we pick up Cedric Alexander vs Mustafa Ali for the CWT and the rather random tag of Goldust & Mojo Rawley vs Zack Ryder & Chad Gable - the Alpha Bros??

VARIATIONS

Unique to Bournemouth is Jose, Breezango and (still babyface) Ascension beat Hawkins, Jinder, Corbin & AoP - next night Breezango are out and Titus Worldwide replace them in Belfast where its McIntyre & Dolph beating Breezango. A swap in Dublin has Jax vs Bliss vs Banks and Bayley/Moon/Nattie vs Riotts. Unique to Brum before Ronda hops on the plane, it's Ember/Nattie vs Ruby & Liv. UK talent scattered throughout the tour has Mark Andrews vs James Drake in Bournemouth, Tucker vs Joseph Conners in Belfast, a logical Jordan Devlin vs Sam Gradwell in Dublin and equally local-pleasing Pete Dunne vs Andrews for the UK belt in Birmingham. Hampton has one offs - Nattie vs Mickie and Jose/Breezango vs Corbin/AoP.

MAIN EVENTS - NXT

3rd in Bartow its Adam Cole vs Marcel Barthel for the North American title, next night in Crystal River Aleister Black vs Velveteen Dream resumes for the big belt, 5th in Daytona Beach its Cole vs Fabian Aichner with Black vs Barthel underneath. 11th in Ocala Cole, Kyle O'Reilly & Roderick Strong beat Big Boa & Heavy Machinery and if that wasn't underwhelming enough, next night in Citrus Springs its Ricochet vs Lars Sullivan with a DQ finish. 17th-20th we have alternating mains - its Ric' vs Lars vs Dream vs Killian Dain in Oklahoma City and San Antonio, with O'Chet vs Dream one on one in Dallas and Houston. 24th in Cocoa Cole & O'Reilly lose by DQ to Machinery, next night in Largo Cole drops a DQ again to Ricochet in his latest NAT defence, 26th in Orlando for reasons unknown he defends against Otis, 31st in Tampa Ricochet and the Street Profits beat all three active Undisputed Era.

B shows! 17th in Lakeland Buddy Murphy vs Lio Rush goes on last, next night in Jacksonville they're on first because on last - hello you - its Tyler Breeze vs Marcel Barthel, then 19th in Venice Marcel and TM61 lose to Heavy Machinery and Chinese lad Mars Wang.

THE CARDS

Ricochet vs Velveteen Dream runs in Daytona Beach and Orlando as well as those main events. Kyle O'Reilly & Roderick Strong vs Street Profits repeats for the tag belts week 1 and in Dallas & Houston (Bobby is injured - Freebird rule) but what a treat - in Oklahoma City and San Antonio its Era vs The Revival while the Profits are back with Steve Cutler & Wesley Blake yet again. Shayna Baszler vs Dakota Kai for the belt repeats in Daytona, Dallas and Houston, it's also Kairi Sane & Nikki Cross vs Reina Gonzalez & Taynara Conti in those two Texan cities. Other repeats see War Raiders vs Adrian Jaoude & Cezar Bononi twice in week 1, Heavy Machinery vs TM61 twice in Florida, meanwhile EC3 vs Fabian Aichner four nights in a row in week 3 plus Orlando, Raiders vs TM61 in Ocala/Cocoa/Largo, Raul Mendoza vs Aichner in Bartow and Largo. Buddy Murphy vs Lio Rush repeats in Lakeland and Jacksonville as you've read, as does Sane vs Aliyah in Ocala and Cocoa, Bianca Belair vs Steffanie Newell (using her real name, still not "Tegan Nox") repeats in Bartow and Lakeland, it's Danny Burch & Oney Lorcan vs Brennan Williams & Chris Dijak and Bianca vs Dakota twice in week 4 plus Kacy Catanzaro vs Lacey Evans in Jacksonville, Cocoa and Largo.... Lacey vs Kacy hehehe.

VARIATIONS - JESUS, WHY DO I DO THIS....

Bartow, Cross vs Gonzalez and TM61 vs Dijak & Williams. Crystal River - Ricochet vs Mendoza, Sons vs Burch & Lorcan, Gonzalez vs Catanzaro and Kairi, Candice LeRae & Fly Kicks lose to Baszler, Aliyah, Vanessa Borne and the godawful Kavita Devi. Daytona it's Tomasso Ciampa vs Mendoza, TM61 vs Burch & Lorcan, Sons vs Dijak & Williams and Candice vs Belair. Ocala, Ricochet vs Kassius Ohno, Dream vs Aichner, Rush loses to Burch and Fly Kicks beat Borne & Belair. In Citrus Springs, Raiders vs Blake & Chad Lail, Fly Kicks upset Shayna & Reina (heh) and it's Bianca vs Kacy. Oklahoma City get Kai vs Taynara, Ohno vs Kona Reeves and Sane & Cross vs Shayna & Reina. Dallas, Lail upsets Ohno. San Antonio - Kai vs Gonzalez, Ohno loses again, to Lorcan, and Sane & Cross vs Shayna & Taynara. Houston - Ohno & Revival vs all three Sons. Lakeland - Mendoza vs Barthel and Candice & Kacy vs Borne & Aliyah. Unique to Jacksonville is LeRae vs Belair. In Venice, Candice vs Aliyah and the rather pretty team of Catanzaro & Newell beating Borne & Belair. Cocoa, Mendoza vs Rush. In Largo, EC3 vs Barthel and Cross & Fly Kicks vs Aliyah, Gonzalez & Rhea Ripley. Orlando see Sane vs Gonzalez, Ohno vs Rush, Tye Dillinger vs Barthel, Kacy & Nikki vs Belair & Aliyah and all the Sons vs Profits & Mars Wang. Finally Tampa get Dream vs Rush, Evans & Borne vs Sane & Jessie Elaban and in what I imagine to be very technically sound, Barthel loses to Johnny Gargano.

TVs

1st in Montreal on the go home SmackDown, Usos vs Rusev Day opens then after 205 Live - HOLY FUCK - it's Daniel Bryan vs Shinsuke Nakamura, which is very good while it lasts. Nothing of note happens on the cross-brand PPV. Next night at Nassau there's Ryder vs Hawkins (the Major Brothers explode!) and Cedric vs Tony Nese before cameras, 8th in Baltimore Sonya vs Asuka and Styles vs Nakamura book end the televised stuff. London Raw has no dark matches, 15th SmackDown taping closes with Jeff vs Miz and 22nd is sandwiched between Mella vs Becky for the belt and Styles vs Nakamura again. 28th Raw in Richmond has Lashley vs Zayn as a dark main, 29th in Raleigh local hero Jeff curtain jerks dark with Shelton, Carmella vs Charlotte goes on last.

NON TITLE WHINING

Beaten on TV this month : Jeff Hardy (US Champion) by Miz, AGAIN by Bryan, Styles (WWE CHAMPION) by Nakamura.
