So much of it is an act by now that its hard to know where the real Jim Cornette ends and the character begins. But I very much doubt he was such an arse when in relatively high level positions in the WWF and TNA. Highly strung yes, but notice how he was nice as pie with Eric Bischoff in the Table for Three a few years ago? Its a persona that's worked on shoot interviews, got him repeat bookings for follow-up shoots and landed him a following on Twitter and his podcasts. He doesn't say shit to anyone's faces. Its not a million miles away from what Honky Tonk Man was upto a decade ago. Slagged off Jerry Lawler mercilessly for years, but suddenly best of pals. It's like Morrissey cliche of saying you like The Smiths but not him. Cornette, everyone will agree, on wrestling history, with no axes to grind and that peculiar voice, can be a funny, engaging guy because he's well versed. Anything he hates, even if you do too like say Russo or Kevin Dunn, he is an absolute bore to listen to. An anachronistic racist weirdo who has an absolutely terrifying obsession with certain acts that he dislikes, threatens staff, hits employees and can put Peter Andre to shame on the Chiquitas. While we are here, Brian Last absolutely gives the vibe of that kid who goes 'Yeah, you want some' behind the big lad before then grassing everyone up.
