This was a belter, and I considered making a thread in this section of the forum asking if we had any arm wrestling fans on here. I love arm wrestling and the competitive nature of the sport, at the top level it's every bit as competitive as boxing imo, a true man to man let's see what you've got sport. Some of the East vs West tournaments have been great lately, and was pleased to see England's own Tom Holland get a win at the last event. It's also hard to comprehend how much force and torque these guys use, lot's of people piss about arm wrestling in the pub, but to learn proper technique, how to apply back pressure, the top roll, pronation, and use that level of force is unreal. One of the gym's I use has a few arm wrestling tables, it's a very interesting and technical sport in it's own right. With regards to Larratt and his match with Levan, I think Levan can possibly get a few rounds out of him this time, I don't think he will beat him, but I can see a 4-2 in the match and not the 4-0 of their first outing. Levan is coming off a bicep tear and there is talk of him facing Vitali Laletin this December, I hope we see that as it will be interesting to gauge where Levan is at on the table going into the Larratt match, and I think Larratt will bring everything for this, he's an extremely determined sportsman. NeverYield Posted July 4 Posted July 4 John Brzenk is a legend, remarkable strength as well considering he wasn't really a fan of any traditional strength movements, or even some of the arm wrestling specific weighted movements, people do today, lot's of table time was enough for John , and plenty of neutral grip pull ups 🤣 Have a look on the East vs West Armwrestling YouTube channel, the past 2 events have been very good. I think some people can struggle to get into armwrestling because there can be lots of stalling and mindgames in the set-up but it's all part of it, trying to get yourself in the best position possible. An exciting match to watch from a few years ago is Ron Bath vs Zurab Tavberidze, and also Ermes Gasparini vs Levan Saginashvili. Quote

If you watch Barnett's fights from Pride, he's an excellent on the ground, incredibly durable, and has decent stamina, but he isn't much of a striker. So he often looked lost if he couldn't clinch and take the fight to the ground (see his bouts with Cro Cop and Aleks until he fatigued). It's why I think Fedor would have always beaten him. Fedor was excellent in the clinch, a fantastic stiker, and had great stamina. Fedor's team also had Barnett well-scouted. Until he fatigued, Aleks gave Barnett fits by framing to stop clinches and boxing with him. I've read that Barnett was beaten up by Couture until the latter gassed. So I'm expecting Barnett's durability/stamina to have won him fight when I get round to watching it. Quote

Barnett actually drops Nog with a punch in their first bout, which was surprising. But it's mostly the awesome grappling that makes those fights fun to re-watch. Quote

I remember really enjoying his fights with Roy Nelson and Andrei Arlovski around that time. And of course, the demolition job he did on Frank Mir didn’t upset me either. Quote

Aye, the Mir fight was one of his best showings. As I posted above, striking wasn't Barnett's strongest area, but he was very good at in-fighting (striking in clinches, dirty boxing). One of the very few bits of meaningful offence Barnett mounted against Cro Cop in their second meeting in Pride was a period late in the fight when he worked Cro Cop over in the clinch. The rest of Barnett's game (clinch takedowns, striking, etc), simply didn't work against Cro Cop. In-fighting was also how Barnett battered Mir all those years later. I only found out recently that Barnett actually trained Freeman when he beat Mir too. Quote
