Notable drops down from the card a year on...

Taz debuted at the Royal Rumble in 2000 amongst a lot of high hopes and anticipation. He went over Kurt Angle in front of a hot crowd. The next year he got the Bushwhacker Luke treatment, running down to the ring and being eliminated from the Rumble almost instantly.

Randy Savage won the World title at Wrestlemania 8, the next year he was on the broadcast team.

What notable slip down the card can you think of?

Ryback was shit hot, going into a feud with cm punk headlining hell in a cell for the wwe title.a few months down the line he is no more then a low-mid card guy and now he is in some shitty tag team.

If they had of struck while the iron was hot he would have been the new goldberg instead of some cheap imitation!

A year later he was in a feud against CM Punk inside Hell in a Cell. While not main event, it was a drop down the card but nowhere near as bad as the likes of Taz.

Yeah, Ryback's drop was really about a year and two weeks later, when he started teaming with Curtis Axel.

Damien Sandow from July 2013 to July 2014 is a pretty big drop.

Ziggler from Raw the night after WrestleMania 29 (wins the World title) to Raw the night after WrestleMania 30 (losing a match on the Superstars taping).

Fandango from WrestleMania 29 to WrestleMania 30, although his drop happened about two months after 29. You could say Chris Jericho in the same gap the year before, I suppose, going from a WWE title match to losing to Fandango.

I suppose the Mania ones shouldn't really count, there's probably loads, Bret bookending Mania 10 and having his big moment with everyone carrying him on their shoulders to that shitefest with Backlund in the midcard a year later is another example

Mania ones are bad as it doesn't really give a good idea of where the wrestler's standing within the promotion is at the time, the Tazz example in the opening post is a proper example, though a year on from RR 2001 he was Tag Champ with Spike (or thereabouts)

Wade Barrett, went from being part of Nexus and headlining SummerSlam 2010 in the 14 man tag, and headlining Survivor Series for the WWE Championship the same year.

One year later he's having a throw away TV match against Daniel Bryan at SummerSlam 2011, but moved up the card a little bit at Survivor Series 2011 defeating Team Orton, surviving with Cody Rhodes.

Did he go up against punk twice then? My memory's gone to pot. Wasn't the hell in the cell match the title match?

Hell in a Cell 2012 was when Punk killed his Goldberg gimmick.

A year later, they were feuding again but this time Punk was the babyface and Ryback was the Heyman-approved heel.

Yeah, he had the HIAC match for the title against Punk, then at the next years HIAC event, the match was meant to be Punk vs. Heyman and Ryback but Heyman never entered the cell so it was basically Ryback vs. Punk 2. Where Ryback lost to a low blow once again.

Zack Ryder is a tragic case. Had a crowd chanting We Want Ryder despite not being on the same bill as names as big as Rock and Cena, got to give Ziggler some (another sad one, but not really in the same boat as Z) beat him for the US Title a month later. Then the downfall started.

Lost it in a flash, got caught up in a horrible feud between Cena and Kane and was the fall guy for Team Teddy at WrestleMania. Never was the same after that.
