I experimented doing rating (using the ever-popular star ratings system) for matches I saw on British shows this year. As such, the following are what I considered to be the best I saw looking back (not including the DGUK shows). Whether you agree with the specific rating or not, these are the bouts I saw that I would say were worthy of 'Match of the Year' consideration:

****1/2

Prince Devitt vs. Ricochet (Oct; RPW)

****1/4

Joey Hayes vs. Noam Dar (Tournament final; Feb; PCW)

Kris Travis vs. Chris Masters (No DQ; Jun; PCW)

Cyanide vs. Dave Mastiff (Jun; FutureShock)

Ricochet vs. Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Mark Haskins (Sep; PROGRESS)

Davey Richards vs. Zack Sabre Jr. (Oct; RPW)

****

Damon Leigh vs. Cameron Kraze vs. Joey Hayes vs. Martin Kirby vs. CJ Banks vs. Ste 'BIN' Mann (Jan; GPW)

Zack Gibson vs. Noam Dar (Tournament final; Mar; FutureShock)

Kevin Steen vs. Kris Travis (Apr; PCW)

El Ligero vs. Noam Dar (May, PROGRESS)

Joey Hayes vs. Martin Kirby (Jul; GPW)

Doug Williams vs. El Ligero (60-Minute Iron Man; Aug; PCW)

Davey Richards vs. Zack Gibson (Oct; Infinite)

Kevin Steen vs. Dave Mastiff (Nov; PCW)

***3/4

The Young Bucks vs. El Ligero & Martin Kirby (Jan; PCW)

Bubblegum vs. Sean Maxer (Jan; PCW)

Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Mark Andrews (Apr; Triple-X)

Kris Travis vs. El Ligero vs. Joey Hayes vs. Martin Kirby (May; PCW)

Martin Kirby vs. Joey Hayes (Jun; PCW)

Zack Sabre Jr. & Marty Scurll vs. Ricochet & AR Fox (Sep; IPW:UK)

Michael Elgin vs. Cyanide (Oct; Infinite)

Kevin Steen vs. Kris Travis vs. Joey Hayes vs. Dean Allmark (Nov; PCW)

Kevin Steen vs. Kris Travis (Nov; PCW)

Prince Devitt vs. Ricochet was therefore the best match I saw on British soil this year, but I do not consider that to be eligible here since the criteria has usually been that the bout must have contained at least one British participant.

So, the nominations, given I can only nominate 3 in each category:

Best British Wrestler:

Joey Hayes

Kris Travis

Martin Kirby

Best British Match:

Kris Travis vs. Chris Masters (No DQ; PCW; June)

Zack Sbare Jr vs. Mark Haskins vs. Ricochet (PROGRESS; September)

Cyanide vs. Dave Mastiff (FutureShock Wrestling; June)

Best British Promotion:

Preston City Wrestling

Well, I'm officially sad. I just counted the wrestling shows I attended last year in England (including afternoon shows) and came to the figure of 51 (plus you can add the 9 shows I attended in America to make it an even 60 wrestling shows for the year). Those 51 shows were put on by 13 different promotions. 13 was a good number as Southside Wrestling Entertainment and Preston City Wrestling both tied as my most attended promotion with Revolution Pro Wrestling came in third with 6.

I looked up each show and listed each match that I thought was at the least "very good" and included at least one UK wrestler. 76 matches later I discovered I'm very liberal with the snow flakes and I'm not as hard to please as what I thought. Of them 33 don't feature a single import which means I do have a very high bias to the imports, but each UK guy/gal more than held their own in that match.

Kris Travis and El Ligero feature in that list 15 times each,Martin Kirby 14 and Zack Sabre Jnr 13. Zack gets in my list as I only saw him 14 times and even then that 14th match (Against Kenbai) was nothing short of 'good'. I know Trav is featured extensively but I'd take Ligero and Kirby over him.

As to be expected matches from Southside, Preston and Revolution Pro dominated the list with 58 out of the 76. But as for the absolute cream of the crop? There's at least 12 to choose from:

Noam Dar vs Joey Hayes - Preston Feb 2nd.

Zack Sabre Jnr vs Fujita Jr Hayato - 4FW March 9th.

Zack Sabre Jnr vs MK McKinnan - SWE May 25th.

Kris Travis vs Chris Masters - Preston June 1st.

Martin Kirby vs El Ligero - SWE June 30th.

Jay Lethal vs Robbie X - SWE August 16th.

Zack Sabre Jnr vs Robbie X - SWE August 17th.

El Ligero vs AR Fox vs Tommy End - SWE September 28th.

Zack Sabre Jnr vs Mark Haskins vs Ricochet - This Is Progress September 29th.

Zack Sabre Jnr vs Fujita Jr Hayato - 4FW M-Pro October 18th.

Zack Sabre Jnr vs Davey Richards - RPW October 19th.

Dave Mastiff vs Kevin Steen - Preston November 16th.

So 2013 was an incredible year in my eyes for BritWres and the show and match quality has never been higher.

Anyways tl:dr

If that's ok with you guys, I'm not going to repeat the same nominations as before, instead I am going to bring in some new ones.

Best British Wrestler:

Prince Devitt (I still consider him British and he's happy to come by whenever promoters can afford to book him)

Benham Ali (he's done a great job overseas with Michinoku Pro)

Lion Kid (very underrated performer, one of the best underdogs in UK)

Best British Match:

Michinoku Pro - Davey Richards vs Kenou

PROGRESS - Singh/Allen/Grado vs Project Ego/TBone (one of GRADO's best performances EVER, amazing ending with Jimmy Havoc turning heel and the London Riots killing the Bangra Knights)

Best British Promotion:

Lucha Britannia

Michinoku Pro - Davey Richards vs Kenou

I would say that is ineligible.

It did take place in England but it was for a Japanese promotion and featured an American wrestler vs a Japanese wrestler.

It's worth mentioning that only 4 matches have been nominated more than once so far.

The polls can have up to 10 nominees, so if anybody else has suggested alternatives to what you think were the real top matches, believing other people will pick that one - I would recommend going back through and checking.
