Who's the next Man?

I may be alone in this, but I can never take Sheamus seriously because he looks like a fucking idiot.

Agreed

He is also a grotesque walking stereo type

Hang on, you think Jinder Mahal should be a top heel! Is he not a grotesque walking stereotype?

The guy is Canadian

And to be fair it's nice to see an Arab character (well indian) who isn't a savage like Abby, The Sheik or Sabu........The dude is a pretty reasonable well educated guy and not the wild man from Punjab

Roode's babyface run before last year's BFG was awesome though. I'm surprised everyone's gone so cold on it now, at the time people were all over him, and his talking to the ducks.

Loki knows. Roode is an incredible babyface, Nash wets himself when he brings up Roode's flaming comeback spots. People were throwing their toys about when he didn't win the title at last years BFG, simply because they were so invested in him and wanted to see Roode do well. Roode's great at pacing a match too.

Sheamus needs to sort out his wooden delivery. He's got a unique look and is very underrated in the ring, but his rubbish delivery (that always sounds forced/plastic) will hold him back, IMO. It's weird because, as others have pointed out, he comes across as a decent lad when he's doing media. On WWE programming he's a wet lisping prick.

Okay... for starters Im not someone who gets offended by stereotypes in the media (it depends on a case by case) but I had to reply....

"The guy is Canadian."

That's irrelevant. It dosen't matter where he is from. If he is a playing a stereotype, he is playing a stereotype. If anything it kind of makes it worse. I'd rather have a native of a country play a gimmick from that country, than someone from outside of it (personally speaking).

"And to be fair it's nice to see an Arab character (well indian) who isn't a savage like Abby, The Sheik or Sabu........"

Hang on.. what? You can't compare a Indian character to Middle Eastern characters as if there the same thing. Its apple and oranges!!! Its like me saying "Its nice to see a positive British character who isn't a negative stereotype like Yokozuna and Yoshi Tatsu."

Also I don't know if you're aware, but the "greedy, evil, filthy rich Indian man" IS a stereotype of the Indian people. And WWE have done it before with Tiger Ali Singh.

As for Sheamus... I complete agree he is a stereotype (which isn't nessesarily a bad thing) though the one thing I do dislike (And I've mentioned this before) is this nickname "The Great White". I mean... its a bloody nickname derived from the colour of his skin which is stereotypical characteristic of the country he lives in! How the f**k did that get past the idea stage?!

In my mind its not so much the individual stereotypes that bother me, but the fact that WWE consistantly use stereotypes. Have we ever had a Japanese / Indian / Middle Eastern / Irish / Samoan / French etc gimmick or wrestler that WASN'T a stereotype? I can't think of many myself.

Dude you think that the average American wrestling fan will see anything past "brown middle eastern man with a funny hat" who probably "Hates our Freedom".

Your totally right but usually they don't give these the top spots (well Yokozuna) they are usually relegated to the under card and they lay the strap on people with a bit more depth.

Alex Riley will be the man in 2-3 years, he has the full package - the all American style good looks, the right height and physique, very confident on the mic and more than capable in the ring - he was on fire a few years ago and I thought he would ascend to the upper mid card before his eventual promotion to the main event tier but it didn't happen for him for whatever reasons.

I thought it was playing off him being chalk white in a world of perma-tan myself.

But he's not Middle Eastern...he's Asian. I don't think the average American wrestling fan is as racist as you think they are.

Dude all I'm saying is that if Jinder ever gets a face run I'll be very very surprised

As a foil to help bring on a new "man" WWE should resign Bully Ray as soon as they can, he is TNA's to dog at moment and has really raised his game, bring him in and get him to fued with the likes of Ziggler / Sheamus et al and give them someone new to bounce off and learn from.

He's just re-signed with TNA.

And also, at the moment WWE aren't going to reach out to ANY TNA talent due to the ongoing court case. If you don't know about it, essentially a TNA employee (Brian Wittenstein) left TNA and was employed by WWE, and took with him all sorts of documents relating to TNA talents' contracts and wages. TNA are suing WWE for contract tampering.

Until that's resolved, if WWE actually signed any current TNA wrestlers they'd have a hard time proving they'd done it legitimately.

This is why Matt Morgan is back, and Bully Ray too.

I'm sorry, I know I come across as mean, but the irony in your posts have been delicious.

Actually no, I'm not nessesarily saying that American fans see a difference. What I'm saying is that it appears YOU can't tell the difference between Indians and Middle Easterns. That's what it seemed from your post anyway.

You know what, thats not a bad shout. All depends if the WWE get over Cena arguement thing. But you look at Riley and then look at Cena when he came in and theres a lot of similarities there. If Riley can find him that gimmick that can take him to the next level, ala Cena's rapping, then we could be looking at the next big thing for sure.

Not one mention of Jack Swagger yet, unless i have missed it? He seems to tick all the boxes, and while he's another one who needs a bit of post-loosing-streak rehab he could be massive.

Size, check

Charisma (face or heel), check, see his first run as champ and the program with the Big Show

American check

Wrestling ability check

I recently thought if Swagger went face and played up the whole "All American American" thing, he'd be pure gold.

Just little things like defending his country and stuff, "America is the greatest country in the world, etc etc". He'd be super over in the states.
