I have watched the past few cards live as I am of Uni for the Summer and have nothing to get up for.

This one is different, I will be too tired to absorb the atmosphere and excitement, so much like Silly Kisser I will wake up at 6am to watch. Also, I do not have ESPN and do not like/trust streams even though I do use them quite often.

It is not just how much I am looking forward to it why I am watching it early, spoilers will be rampant for this fight.

I'm not a UFC fan but a mere casual observer of MMA.

I have tried to get into MMA and UFC but have been unable to as its not like WWE where you have guys cutting promos and the over the top storylines which help sell a PPV to you. In WWE they are entertainers where as in UFC all there is is just fighters and thats it.

For the first time ever there is someone in UFC who is more than just a fighter and that's Chael Sonnen. I watched all of his interviews and the guy is a wrestling promo from start to finish. He interests me in what he has to say and he makes me care this Saturday to watch a UFC fight.

See what the UFc needs to get bigger and draw in new fans is to have fighters who are not only good in a cage but can also talk to sell a PPV to new fans to the sport like me to draw people in to get interested to watch them fight.

In boxing you have Floyd Maywether. He's an amazing boxer but the talk he does sells you the fight as a big deal and that's what UFC needs to take it to the next level.

I think you are being harsh, there are plenty of MMA fighters who can talk you into a arena, and very few in WWE in my opinion.

In WWE I will say only Cena and Rock talk the fans in, CM Punk does not draw and neither does Randy Orton or anyone else they have. You talk like UFC do not sell PPV's and WWE does, UFC PPV's sell a lot more than WWE does, domestically they do some shows that best the domestic buyrate for Wrestlemania.

Jon Jones vs Rashad did 700k domestically, around the same Wrestlemania did, and the average WWE PPV domestically does about 150k-250k, the UFC does 250k-300k on there small PPV'S with 500k-800k on their big shows.

JDS who is a more likable babyface than anyone WWE has, fighting Frank Mir to avenge his master is a storyline right out of Pro Wrestling, as is the comeback of Brock Lesnar from illness.

Chael maybe the best but I can list several others who can talk well in UFC

Rashad

Rampage

Tito Ortiz

Frank Mir

Dan Hardy

Nick Diaz

Overeem

All these can talk you into the arena and sell the fight as a big deal like Floyd Mayweather does. They are also entertainers and more than just fighters.

Whilst i see that Chael has that instant appeal that wrestling fans can relate too. There are a ton of MMA fighters that talk shit and stir up hype for their fights. If you follow the sport on a daily basis you'd realise that.

MMA is a soap opera in its own little way, and the payoff at the end of stuff is just so much better and satisfying than anything pro wrestling can deliver. You've just gotta be patient with it.

Plus it's not just talking, someone like roy nelson has an amazing back story and personality, fans love him. Guida gets special mention as well, what with being such a hyperactive little nutter.

Dan hardy, there's loads of personalities that work with the fighting to sell the fights, in alot of cases the personality outshines the vast majority of wrestling promo's out there.

Sonnen's a good mix of both mind, best heel I've seen in a fair while, in so far as I really do want him not just to lose but to get badly fucking hurt on saturday, that's proper heat that is.

Most of the shows I watch the following morning. The more important ones I can usually persuade some friends to head up to the casino with me to watch it live, which we will be doing on Saturday. I am hyped for this fight more than I have been for any MMA fight in the past. Should be a belter despite the outcome.

ESPN might have made a mistake, UFC 144 was a 7 fight main card and that went 4 hours, 145 was a 6 fight main card and that went 3 hours and they probably didn't want to do the 6 fight main card for 146 because of the heavyweight main card gimmick they were pushing.

I think aside from Chael, Frank Mir and Dan Hardy are the two best talkers in MMA. Both shit charisma and polarize opinions. There's really no middle ground, you're either tuning in to support them or hoping they receive a sound twatting. Either way at least you're arsed about their fights. Just a shame neither have a real shot at winning the title (especially in Hardy's case).

MMA has tons of characters. The big loveable babyface (JDS), cocky fuckers (Chael/Mir/Hardy), the GI Joe (Stann), the fit birds (Ronda/Miesha), silent killers (Cain), monsters (Reem), showmen (Lawlor), nutters (Diaz), the funny fuckers (Serra, Bas). Heel 'foreigners' like Bisping. Legends like Wand, Hendo, Hughes.

Even the non fighters have 'characters'. Dana, Rogan etc, all big personalities. Heel officials like Winslow and Cecil. Heel managers like Greg Jackson.

If you follow MMA and get to know the stories of the guys and the history it's brilliant. It's almost as much like wrestling as wrestling is these days.
