Soz Monk. Your charity idea is brilliant, follow that up with a Just Giving or whatever and we can have a pinned post here for anyone that wants to contribute.Ā
I donāt know what everyone would prefer...
Donations split between a childrenās hospice and Velindre Cancer Centre that treated him - in which case it would have to be done via PayPal (if people trust me) or GoFundMe (whoāll take a percentage)Ā so that it can be split. Happy to do either. My idea was for a memorial butterfly in his name.
Or
Donations to one charity via JustGiving - wait for someone close to him to chose the charity it goes to.
Thoughts?

I'm with you, @John Matrix. This has really hit me and I feel like I want to do something.
Would anyone be up for donating to something? I work for a children's hospice and we have memorial butterflies that go into our nature reserve. I'd need to find out how much they are but anything over that amount could be donated to the Velindre Cancer Centre in Cardiff where he had treatment. I'm waiting to hear back about any arrangements though so maybe the family will ask for donations elsewhere. I dunno, I just feel like I want to do something from this little community of ours.

I canāt sleep... I went back to look at some of his last posts in here and absolutely love this:
āI just donāt really seem to age so Iāll ride that wave for as long as it lasts knowing itāll catch up to me eventually.ā
Guess heās riding that wave off into the sunset ā¤ļø

It was in honour of Chris that I brought back to Secret Santa last year. He organised the first ever one and he drew me. I hadnāt long moved into my new flat and he bought me a Welsh love spoon forĀ good luck. It still hangs in my hallway. I so badly wanted to tell someone here thatĀ he was ill but it wasnāt my place to do so. He was a genuinely lovely person.
Why is it always the good ones?

This is so sad. I found out last year that he was terminal as he was being treated at the same place my mum works. He told me heād be lucky to see Christmas.

See, I thought you were also an F-1 and Star Wars aficionado as well?Ā If not, surely you're enough of an enthusiast that it wouldn't take you long to get up to specialist subject level with a bit of genning up?Ā
My F1 knowledge might be too specific. It would have to be between a 10-year period of 2000-2010-ish and then Iām not one of those people who can remember who cameĀ third at the Belgian GP of 2003 or the technical specs of the engines.
And, while I love Star Wars, if you asked me the name of the actor who play Jar Jar I wouldnāt be able to tell you.
I have a lot of passions and interests but Iām only OTT for very few subjects.

I thought the Joey Deacon photo was Harry Patch (First World War legend) so didnāt get that connection. I did get the Star Wars one though.
Currently a bit obsessed with Richard Osmanās House of Games though. I want his suitcase.

Thereās no other guidance - thatās what I was looking for. For example, I know you canāt just pick *a* film or *a*bookĀ because the range of questions would be too limited so I was wondering what the criteria would be. Youāre just asked for your 5 specialist subjects and the orderĀ youād choose them for the heats.

TIL you have to list FIVE specialist subjects to apply for Mastermind.
I only have one.

I watched The Hunters on Amazon Prime at the weekend. What a hell of a show. I thought the acting throughout was fantastic - 3 highlights: Al Pacino was almost unrecognisableĀ and I thought he was quite subtleĀ compared to other stuff Iāve seen him in;Ā Logan Lerman was great and I loved his character development through true series; and I didnāt realise that Josh Radnor was in it - Iāve only seen him in How I Met... and thought he was a bit of a pretty boy but this really showed some skills.
The plot itself was fascinating as there were so many truths and real people named in it but IĀ can see why the fictional aspects areĀ controversial and have been condemned by Holocaust historians.
It did well to hide where the story was going right up until the last episode too. I didnāt expect what happened and I hope thereās a second series.
@SuperBaconĀ What were your reasons for disliking it so much?
-
That. Looks. Incredible.
Iām totally doing this in 2022. This year is California so Iāll have saved up again by 2022 and this will have had some time to bed in and eek out any gremlins. Iām sold.

Any freelance graphic designers looking for some ongoing piece/project work? The charity I work for is looking to expand its team of designers and I know we have some on here so thought I'd reach out.

How do they do it with a series?Ā Is it select episodes or a supercut?
I think itās the first time with a series rather than a film and Iāve not been before so I canāt compare too much.
It lasted 3.5hrs and through ourĀ time in there we saw the characters a few times and they āagedā as the time went on. The first time I saw Eleven age was in the pink dress with short hair; then I saw her later with slicked back hair in the overcoat; and then I saw her towards then end with longer hair and the bright short. Same with Hopper - police chief > Hawaiian shirt, etc.
You were given tasks and clues for stuff and then it all culminated in ābringing the 3 series togetherā but I wonāt go into detail as I donāt want to spoil it if anyoneās going. It wasnāt quite what I expected but that wasnāt a bad thing.

Ok, so I set this up on JustGiving. I thought it was more transparent so people can see the exact total and stuff.
