Cheers for that @Kaz Hayashi, I’m really trying to cut back/out drinking but trying to find decent replacements has been a struggle. Mikkeller are great so I’m not sure why I hadn’t thought of them before, where did you pick those up from? I’d never heard of them till I visited Copenhagen a few years ago, I think I must’ve tried at least half of their taps in the 3 days that I was there, all of them pretty damn tasty.

Best place is the drydrinker site. Expensive as most are priced the same as general IPAs, but a good selection.

  2. Over the past 3 years I’ve scoured the land for my favourite alcohol free beers. I know a few people have tried to avoid drinking through this 2nd lock down due to over doing it in the 1st one. So here’s my opinion on what to try.

Just to clarify, I absolutely detest pretend lager 0% stuff. I’m also not that keen on 0% that tries too hard to taste like a ‘generic’ IPA. They end up too bitter in the aftertaste, over compensating for their lack of real depth, which is annoying after 1 or 2 cans or bottles. They can also suffer from a flatish 2nd half too, (Start well, go flat, bitter ending to make up for it) but again, I’m generally referring to generic 0% IPA’s. I’m guessing they all just follow a formula in order to knock out a 0% for that market, and you can tell. There’s too many on the market that go down that route and end up tasting the same.

Now, my ultimate goal was to try and find a beer that tasted like a good quality IPA that I was fond of several years back, or as close to that as possible. Best case scenario really. Something tasty, not too bitter in the aftertaste, flavoursome throughout and sessionsble.

My top 2 are as follows:

    Mikkeller - Weird Weather

0.3% - A New England style IPA, in my opinion the best 0% beer you can get. It’s such a familiar taste and if you were doing a taste test, I truly believe it would fool you in to thinking it’s the real deal.

    Vandestreek - Playground

0.5% - Great citrus tasting IPA, with Mosaic, Cascade and Citra hops being very apparent. I had this recently and it’s quality. A very close 2nd place.

Had fun in the kitchen yesterday. Top image is a home-pickled cabbage, crab meat and satay dressing, the aubergine in the top right corner is baked then glazed with honey, served with yoghurt, pomegranate seeds and za’atar oil. Did a buratta too, with quick-pickled shallots, tomatoes and a fennel seed, oregano and basil dressing. Main course was pan-friend duck breast on celeriac purée with caramelised chicory, fondant potatoes and a port and red currant sauce.

Could’ve done with rendering the fat on the duck for another 5 minutes and I slightly over reduced the sauce but I’m happy with it.

Not pictured is the orange and cardamom creme brûlée, tasted alright but had a weeeeird af consistency. Too much sugar and over baked, I think.

I’d smash everyone of those plates. All look delicious, great work.

I've just weighed myself for the first time in 3 months and found out I'm now a lb or 2 shy of 14 stone.

Considering I'm 5 foot 8 and I weighed around 11 stone for most of uni, it is now a bit of a worry that I'm putting weight on. My new meds I've been warned to expect a big weight gain too due to increased appetite.

Has anyone found any good lockdown workouts with gyms etc closed. Like I'm not overly fussed about being heavier (being small has always had me be pushed around too much so the added confidence of being heavier does help) but it's about the fact of a lot of it being fat that needs burning or converting.

Or am I just better trying to wear baggier clothing until New Year and find a gym membership then?

I struggled for a bit until I got the momentum. I 100% urge you to get the ‘My Fitness Pal’ app. It helps to monitor calorie intake, along with fat/protein/carbs.

If you opt to download it (it’s free) I’ll happily talk you through the basics. It’s really easy.
You can also sync it to a pedometer on your phone. So when you simply walk around, you gain calories that you can use on additional food etc.
It’s all common sense stuff, but having a handy, easy to use, visual aid really, really can help. I lost 3 stone in approx 9 months by using this, but it gives you the momentum, drive and belief to take on exercise programs.

So in a nutshell, I’m 5’11. Before I used this I weighed over 16 stone. I’ve now maintained a stead 12.7 stone for approx 9 months.
I also took up boxing approx 2 and a bit years ago.

I never would’ve achieved the weight loss, or had the confidence for boxing, if I didn’t have that initial run of weight loss, momentum and drive, and I give full credit to the app.

There is a fitness thread mate, check it out, it’s full of useful info, and the folks posting in it are very supportive.

What the fuck is this about about?

It’s a hand ledge to balance your pogs on, without getting your real hand dirty.

Either that or it’s the 2020 version of ‘using your left hand’ to make it feel like it’s someone else for special occasions.

@Kaz Hayashi I bought mine a few years ago now but I did a bit of research into what was good for design at the time. I went for an Acer with these specs and never had any problems:

I’m not really techy but this was recommended online for design and it was a reasonable price at Curry’s PC World. Not sure what today’s equivalent would be.

Cheers monkey, I’ll have a look in to this.

  7. So my boss has just given me a budget of £800 max to spend on a new laptop. Nice.
I’ve been making a couple of short videos showing the projects I’ve devised and managed at the homeless charity, and now they want to keep the momentum going, lovely stuff.
It’ll be used to teach a bit of music production, with some video editing, possibly some beginners level graphic creation, all round media creation really, but more focus on the audio side of things, and processing power.
I don’t need anything super professional, but obviously fast, powerful with good for Media creation (mainly music) for £800 absolute maximum.
Must be from a company (no eBay random punters) It’s a work purchase.

Just wondered if any of you are aware of anything at all? I thought folks like @John Matrix @Monkee and others on here might have some suggestions heading in to Black Friday? but not @Nostalgia Nonce because he still looks at pyramids to tell the time.

    Cheers all

  8. That, was bloody lovely.

Made a thiiiick soup much like I occasionally do, with butternut squash and sweet potato being the two main veg. Lots of crushed garlic and some red onion, seasoning, standard stuff but tasty stuff. This time I added a bit of pumpkin. Now I’ll be honest, I’m not keen on pumpkin soup when it’s the overriding ingredient, had it last week, it’s just a touch on the bitter side for me, and doesn’t have the sweet kick that Squash has, but when in the mixer with squash & potato, it balances out really nicely.

I didn’t stop there though, I decided to make a thai red chilli style paste, as we’re going to make a curry on Wednesday. I like to make the paste and let it settle in the fridge for a couple of days, because I’ve convinced myself it tastes better, when it’s likely just habit.

Anyway, I mixed a bit of the paste in with the thick, squash/potato/pumpkin soup and my word, that was bloody lovely.
Crap photo, but I didn’t plan to post about it, and now it’s gone, so hopefully this photo will at least demonstrate how good it was.

I'm off out shopping too. If nothing has started when I get back I'll set one up, but I don't have a pro account so it will have the 40 minute limit.

If someone does set one up in the meantime, PM me a link and I'll join when I get back.

You go for it mate and chuck some links out with a time that suits.

  11. In other news about Kamala, his just giving page (to help his family with funeral expenses and cost of living etc) is approaching $35k. Original goal was $5k I believe, anyway, nice to see a wrestlers Just Giving page doing well, especially as it has a real purpose and not just Justin Credible or Teddy Hart looking forward a payday.

It may be that they viewed Kamala as a big of a racist trope that looks pretty bad in 2020 eyes. Not sure if that would bbe enough to make it adult. Weirdly both wrestler and politician both have same surname IRL which I didn't know til recently.

Doubt it’s that, unless Smack em Whack em becomes 18+. They’d have to turn every video with Yoko, Headshrinkers, Shango etc adult to if that was the case.

Keep in mind, this was flagged during the counting of election votes.

Either way, their system isn’t processed bulky humans, it’s generally key words in a database. Or someone has reported it.
