  1. Chalk me up as another who doesn't really get Punk but appreciates that this is one of those moments which will go down in history.

AEW played it perfectly. Going on first, allowing time to deliver a  shit hot promo whilst raising talent and establishing his next match, commentary only when necessary and giving the people what they want. It shits all over WWE and is night and day.

Reminds me of 90s wrestling and it's exciting.

Edit: Just caught the 'highlights' from smackdown. Christ. Chalk up another win for AEW.

  2. Just finished the first season of the bad batch and the best I can offer it is that it's average. Easily the weakest Filoni output that provides nothing really of note.

I hope this doesn't set a precedent for future Star Wars content.

  3. Saddened by Dusty Hill's death. A solid bassist in one of the most entertaining bands around. Very lucky to see them back in 2019.

Their cameo in King of the Hill is one of the best.

    "Stop spinning my son"

    RIP.

  4. WCW > WWE when it comes to sets. The original Nitro set had a big-time superstar feel and when wrestlers were interviewed by Mean Gene there it felt significant. As mentioned, Halloween Havoc is iconic.

I know the HD era has to happen to keep the product fresh but it really kills the buzz when they've got the same old shit.

I also loved the gritty ECW brick set - fits the product perfectly.

  5. Taken some holiday while the family are still at school/work and bought myself Pokémon let's go Pikachu to kill some time and half-relive my Pokémon glory days.

...Yes, I took my son and pretended it was for him. I've zero regrets.

  6. Currently devouring 'One Two Three Four: The Beatles in Time' by Craig Brown. I have never read a biography like it and it has raised the bar considerably. Brown views the Beatles from every angle possible, utilising different perspectives whilst maintaining a quaint social commentary of the 60's. Visiting the childhood homes of Lennon and McCartney and the derelict cinemas in Hamburg reflect the depth of research for the book.

Chapters are 1-5 pages long and provide digestible tales on the Beatles from their origins to the height of Beatlemania and beyond. I've laughed at the anecdotes and read in awe of the power of the Beatles. The claims that they healed America following the assassination of JFK is something I never considered but would agree with amongst other things.

Far too much to go into but it's easily my read of the year.

I cannot recommend highly enough but I am also disappointed as future biographies will not match the quality of this one.

  7. Why dethrone the best wrestler in wwe right now; what's the rush? Reigns has waited a long time to get his moment to shine and he's finally given the chance to unleash the potential without a lame babyface gimmick. Having nobody to topple him will make his eventual demise as champion even more special. I miss slow-burn build-ups and hope this gives Big E the chance to emerge after a long build.

Hell, I'd love him to beat the Rock in some family feud on the way to his eventual demise. Anything but a loss to less credible opponents or Brock.

He's that good right now it's worth taking time to work out a decent challenger... of course this is not going to happen but we can dream.

  8. Chalk up me not watching line of duty for the same reason. I hate the hype surrounding shows and I worry that it'll be a disappointment.

Tuca and Bertie looks interesting mind. I didn't enjoy BoJack though...

Kane's induction video is up there with one of the best videos they've ever done.

Shit. That video gave me chills; nothing has ever come close to a debut as when Kane ripped that door off and laid waste to the Undertaker. JR screaming about hell fire and brimstone takes me back to being a huge Kane mark who genuinely believed he should have got a decent run with the title (although they would struggle with promos etc I guess...)

As fun as Kane has been, he never truly recovered from losing the mask as he lost some of the aura and mystique. One of the most versatile big men and his 2002 run was superb - returning to save the American flag from being burned is still a fond memory.

One of the best highlight reels they've done. A tasteful tribute to one of the best wrestlers of the last 25 years.

  10. Am picking up a Switch later today. Will be getting stuck into Mariokart and classic SNES games while waiting for Amazon to deliver smash bros.

My xbox has been gathering dust for some time and it's I think it's time for my 4 year old to play some platform family friendly goodness.

    Suggestions welcome.

  11. The beeb is showing Fawlty Towers again and it's deep-fried gold. My love of Basil grows with each viewing and it's timeless.

It's the wedding party tonight... Superb.

  12. Got my jab through work yesterday at 5pm. 3am I woke with sweats, aches and pains... despite the discomfort, it's reassuring to know that I'm one step closer to resuming normal service. Hoping to get over this shit feeling by tomorrow.

  13. Well that was aewful(!)

Seriously though, that pyro was both tragic and hilarious and it's caught the ire of fans.

What's even more depressing is the big hall of fame worthy (really?) surprise is mid-card Christian. I've  never bought into him being anywhere near the main event and question what value he can bring to aew. It's fast becoming another TNA with these great WWE additions....

Two big hypes, two massive letdowns.

That said, the rest of the card was decent enough but it doesn't save that finish.

  14. Wandavision was solid. Nothing mind blowing but it was interesting to see film level action in a TV show. This pushes things along nicely for the next phase but my two biggest gripes of the whole thing?

It felt slightly rushed and across the series there's over 90 minutes of fucking credits.

  15. Burning through superstore and am currently on season 5. It is easy going, doesn't take itself too seriously and I can't find a weak and/or annoying character yet.

I still chuckle at Mateo being called Matato.

Will be sad when I finish it but it's alleviating dull lockdown evenings.
