Has anyone seen Flying Lotus' new cartoon on Netflix, Yasuke? It takes a lot of the old school violent anime tropes, like lots of Ninja Scroll and makes a pretty decent show out of them.

Thanks for the heads up. Ninja Scroll is a favourite of mine so I've just given the first 3 eps of Yasuke a watch. Love it so far. The first episode took me a while to warm up to it but I'm thoroughly hooked on it now. I've not given any of the Netflix animes a go other than Castlevania is there anything else that would appeal to an old school Manga Entertainment fan?

  2. That's a shame Chris B. Don't let that put you off. Try and think of festivals as just a distribution system. I like your shorts. It always gives me the itch when you put one up.

I've gone with Resolve and it looks like a hell of a bit of kit. Unfortunately my folks PC doesn't seem to be able to handle the play back. I've tried all the YouTube tips about dropping the resolution and what not but it just can't hack it. I'm going to give it a go on my laptop tomorrow and see how that fairs. Otherwise Resolve looks cracking.

  3. I've been tasked to edit my Sisters wedding video. Any recommendations on free software? I used to use Premiere back in my uni days so anything similar to that would be best.

  4. That's reminded me I had the misfortune of watching Without Remorse the other day. It's one of the dullest, most generic and badly written 'action' films I've ever seen. Seriously eye rolling stuff. Avoid.

Not quite as bad was Honest Thief but only just. Neeson is way past pulling off an action role and this has one of those annoying identity crisis where it pretends it isn't just a ropey action film made solely off the back of Taken and trys to wedge in a bunch of emotion and amateur feeling dramatics. Also Avoid.

Palm Springs on the other hand is top notch fun.

  5. I'm absolutely hopeful they find their feet. It's early days and AEW have a proven track recording of hitting the right spot with time. I have a hard time believing in them as a tight knit unit right now though. They seem to exist out of necessity for the IC fued not so much a faction in their own right.

  6. I've just watched it from start to finish again and it's so bloody satisfying. The look on Mox face after he kicks out of the super kick on one is absolutely glorious.

Jungle Boy winning was superb. One of my favourite moments in wrestling. The rest of the match was watchable enough but they REALLY nailed the finish.

Hangman was Hangman in a great opener.

    Miro was Miro.

Darby and Sting was far far better than I expected. Sting looked great and really put a shift in. Scorpio and Page held their end up fine and I was even a little impressed by them.

Shida and Britt was a mixed bag in that there seemed to be a fair few bodges and misscommunications but it held together OK in spite of them. Britt was 100% the right choice. She's going to bring that Championship to the next level for sure.

The three way was thrilling. Getting me to believe for even a split second Orange could win was tremendous.

Of course Cody was the weak point but I even found that watchable to be honest. Ogogo clearly has a lot of potential. It was obvious he wasn't going over when they trotted out the military gimmick.

Obviously it was a waste of a finish. Cody really could have made Ogogo but I don't think it will ultimately do him any harm. Just a little pointless.

Stadium Stampede 2 didn't do it for me honestly. It's not even in the same ball park as the first one and only really gets good when they are back in front of the crowd which saves it. As much stick as JR gets (rightly so) he did his damnedest to get Sammy over.

Pinnacle don't really work for me for some reason. I just don't care about them as group.

  7. Yeah that lot does seem like a pretty handy bunch. The Shanix for Primal was my first. I've got him to level 52 but Skyburst is only 47 right now.

My 4* Rust Dust, Ultra Magnus, Ratchet, Cosmos and Strafe are all over 50 but with the exception of Rust Dust its slow as hell leveling them up. Its been much easier since I unlocked the second slot in the reserch lab.

  8. WARNING! PROMPTLY IGNORE IF YOU'RE NOT INTERESTED IN EARTH WARS!

How's everyone going with the 5th anniversary event? So far I've had a hell of week.

Sunday I finally scraped enough shards together for 5* Skyburst.

Yesterday I finally hit level 65 and could upgrade my HQ to level 16.

Then this morning I got 4* Seaspray (my favourite Transformer)

This evening I hit the jackpot with 5* Optimus Prime!

No doubt we'll blitz the event by tomorrow but hopefully I'll snag a few more 4* shards on the way.

  9. Finished work this morning and there's nowt in the cupboard so this thread inspired me to go full vegan eatclean. (oxymoron maybe?) Just wolfed down two Burger King Vegan Royales I had delivered. Hit the spot nicely, Cheers.

Watched Spookies last night, decent 80s horror. It did feel like that they had come up with loads of great practical Sfx and just wrote a film around them though. Definitely worth a watch though.

There's a really good documentary about Spookies on the Vinegar Syndrome disc. Essentially the nob head producer fired everyone after they had shot 75% of the film. He hired a new director, completely new cast and put those bizarre sections with the ghoul, the wife in white and naff zombies in it that don't connect to the main plot at all.

It's a fun movie as it is but you can't help but think it would have been far more cohesive without the interference. The cast were absolutely furious with how it turned out.

    Drive-In Massacre (1976) (YouTube)

Amorous couples get slaughtered and killed at the Drive-In. Didn’t think this was as bad as the reviews I subsequently read, although the lack of definitive conclusion is disappointing (it probably played better to those watching at the theatre). FX are primitive.

    Nightmares (1980) (YouTube)

Australian psychological slasher set predominantly in a theatre. The killer’s identity is supposed to be a secret but it’s obvious who it is from their first kill. Poor editing throughout and some very explicit sex scenes featuring a nude Pam Willis in one! Below average.

Drive-In Massacre is watchable but the thing is there are two versions. A TV cut and theatrical. The theatrical is one of the most bloated and plodding films I've ever seen. The TV version is about 20 minutes shorter and a far snappier, fun time.

Nightmares sounds top. Not heard of that one. As a fellow slasher nerd and Neighbours lifer I must seek it out. Thanks very much.

Have you read Teenage Wasteland: The Teenage Slasher Movie Book by J.A Kerswell? If not it will be right up your ally. Also his website Hysteria-lives.com and the Hysteria Continues podcast are worth a look.

  12. Stage Fright is my favourite Giallo. Absolute masterpiece of slasher cinema. I have a slight fear of Owl's generally and the killer creeps the hell out of me. It's not only genuinely scary but deliriously fun.

Not a really a fan of Cemetery Man myself but The Church is a really good watch.

I always thought Day of the Dead was widely thought of as being a bit crap.

Personally I think Night of the Living Dead is by far the best of Romero's films.

That is my impression as well.

I haven't watched Day in about 20 years but I remember liking it more than your average Romero fan. It's certainly the weakest of the 3. I love Dawn but Night is a masterpiece. The less said about the astonishing mistep of the directors cut with the newly shot footage the better though.

  14. Yep on episode 6 tonight. Really good stuff. Cracking animation and seems pretty faithful to the comic at least from what I can tell from the 4 issues I read. Certainly in tone at least.

It's light like The Tick without the comedy mixed with The Boys without the comedy and darkness. EDIT - THIS IS A TERRIBLE DESCRIPTION I APOLOGISE IN ADVANCE

Hey DEF, deepest sympathies, my dad died during lockdown too.

He did fuck all for charity mind...

Aah charity or not its proper shit. I'm sorry dude.

I really appreciate the kind words and messages guys. It makes it a little bit easier.

  16. My Dad died on Friday. Ben Spiller was a pretty great guy. I can't claim he's an actual celebrity but it's possible if you are from the Reading area you'd know him. He won the pride of Reading award in 2017. He organised the Reading Toy Run every Christmas for over 30 years.

Bikers would assemble on mass at the Foster Wheeler building and ride together to the Barnardos School High Close with toys that got distributed all over the country to children that otherwise probably wouldn't get anything.

It is a local spectacle the signifys the start of Christmas for many local families. The pavements literally fill with people watching the parade of 2000+ bikers.

Through the Toy Run he raised millions for charity and more importantly made sure that needy children had a toy at Christmas all over the UK. It ment a lot to him to get those kids toys and every year it was possible that's what happened. They are the guiness world record holders for Toy Runs and i couldn't be more proud of him.
