  1. Few dishes that Iā€™ve cooked up in the past week or so:

Trying to do a Paella Valenciana as close to the ones I was eating when I spent a month in Valencia a couple of years ago. Paella looks like a simple dish but trying to get the cooking of each element right without over or under doing another has been tricky. My first few attempts were a mushy mess. This is the closest Iā€™ve been so far but couldā€™ve been doing with a touch more tomato purĆ©e and paprika.Ā

The worst thing about rental properties, whereby you pay far more per pcm than you would a mortgage on the same property (effectively getting less home for more cash), is that it makes it so much harder to buy. I just bought, and I'm stunned how much bigger a house I get for a much lower monthly commitment, plusĀ its mineĀ and the money is buying something for me, not going into a black hole.

That meme on networks is true, re: mortgage meetings.

"The bank needs proof that you can afford this Ā£700 mortgage payment."

"I've been able to afford my current rent at Ā£1000 per month."

"Why haven't you been able to save up a bigger deposit?"

"Because my current rent is Ā£1000 per month."

Yeah, Iā€™m now paying less on a mortgage for a 3 bed semi in a North Lincs village than I was for a bedroom that I shared with my ex in an HMO in London. Ā How your average worker can afford to live in London is beyond me, why they would want to even more so. Ā
The whole idea of freeholds, inherited property etc just makes zero sense, population is booming and we have very finite areas of land to build on but the thickos in this country think itā€™s their God given right to not only own swathes of it but pass it on to generation after generation of their family. Itā€™s totally unsustainable.Ā

  3. The fact that our social housing stock is so depleted, thanks to buy-to-let landlords, and yet weā€™re running credit checks on private tenants is so fucked up. I dread to think where the number of those homeless is going. Iā€™ve had some awful dealings with landlords and letting agencies over the years; refusing to replace broken appliances, trying to charge a fortune for a gardener when I moved out when I had proof that I had actually improved the state of the garden but I know these donā€™t scratch the surface of what others put up. Ā I had one agency demanding a guarantor for a property I wanted as apparently my age meant I was a higher risk tenant, despite me having a decent salary and good credit rating, I told them where to shove it. What they get away with is criminal but sadly not surprising. Sorry youā€™re going through that @SuperBacon, sounds like youā€™re doing the right things, Iā€™m guessing youā€™ve been in touch with CAB or Shelter?

  4. Guy I work with and shared a house with for a couple of years is through to the semis on Masterchef. Ā It was great living together as we are both really keen cooks, not good for the waistline but we were constantly cooking together and coming up with dishes. I learned Ā loads about Indian cooking from him and still regularly make the aloo chaat, lamb biryani and butter chicken he taught me how to do. Heā€™s kept it very quiet as to how he does but, in my opinion, heā€™s been the stand-out so far.Ā

  5. Not entirely sure who was supposed to come out of that article looking bad? Angela Rayner for having legs or our Prime Minister whose own MPā€™s believe canā€™t function properly if sat across from a woman in a skirt.Ā

  6. Or emails marked as urgent. If it was urgent youā€™d have picked up the phone, like you do most of the time anyway. Ā Iā€™ve started to take pride in my deliberately abrupt reply to emails and always make sure thereā€™s nothing for them to respond to in it.Ā

Squared sausage is far superior to links and I wont hear any argument against that. For me the only good sausages are the irish recipe/Richmond ones as well, not a fan of any other type.

Egg wise for me its a runny fried egg. Perfection.

Almost agreed with you but donā€™t want to be tied to this sort of barbarism.

  8. Thatā€™s awful and while Iā€™ll never look to excuse it, Iā€™m not sure Ukraine can be blamed for clutching at every last straw when Russians are using rape as a weapon and indiscriminately bombing humanitarian corridors.Ā

We all know that nothing will ever come close to Brannigans Roast Beef and Mustard (WIV DA CRISP ANGLES NOW), but these from Tesco's come a tiny bit close and are absolutely banging.

Ā£1 for a big bag as well. The only downside is they're crinkled which, McCoys aside, is usually a no for me.

Theyā€™re great. Tried a few imitators who havenā€™t come close but these are pretty banging, as the non-senile would say.Ā

  10. Off to Marseille and Cassis on Tuesday. First holiday abroad since before covid so really looking forward to a change of scenery. Any keffers been before and have some recommendations? So far, my plans consist of eating, drinking wine and some more eating, oh and a walk in the Calanques to make space for more food and wine. The number of incredible looking restaurants is quite overwhelming though.Ā

Is Ten Hag nailed on for United then? I though Poch would have been the front runner with an eye on Tuchel and Conteā€™s situations even though they donā€™t play the ā€˜United Wayā€™ whatever that is.

Turgid shite if weā€™re going by the last 9 years. It should be Ten Hag all day long, with an eye on Tuchel as you say. Iā€™ll never get the fuss over Pochettino, seems to have had a lot of hype for years but never really achieved anything. I think heā€™d be a disaster at Man Utd.Ā
On second thoughts, it should be Pochettino all day long.Ā
