Zouma has lost sponsorships, which will be worth hundreds of thousands of pounds, and has been fined quarter of a million quid, not to mention any further action brought forth by the RSPCA.

I think it's fair to say that, considering the crime, he's been published adequately.

I agree that the punishment needs to be relative to the crime but while £250k is an insane amount of money to us, it’s actually only about 2 weeks wages to him so we can hardly say he’s had the book thrown at him. A quick Google and gov.uk says that those who abuse animals should face fines up to £5,000, that’s a significantly higher percentage of your average punter’s salary that what’s being faced by Zouma.

Compare it to the Suarez stuff and it does look out of proportion, but there aren’t many who argued that was handled well.

We've been cooking fish and chips maybe two/three times a week last week as part of training on our new course.

If I get a photo of the wonder we're producing I'll get it on here I think you lot would be booking to come see Shy Dad on holiday quite quickly.

Only if you do kebabs too.

Musk is probably the worse offender though. One of the planets finest minds and he’s a fucking Twitter troll and tech bro. Plus it’s about the people who look up to him and they’re all bellends.

Oh yeah, my bad. His fanboys are the worst. One of my mates used to incessantly post YouTube videos about him in our group chat, in between QAnon vids that is, and while we’d ridicule him for it he was convinced he was opening our eyes, then QAnon hit the mainstream and he backtracked to “no smoke without fire”. He’s also a big Peterson, Rogan and Gervais fan, do all these cunts end up with the same YouTube algorithms?

Whilst nowhere near the influence of others mentioned, centrist dads nominate Marina Hyde. Whenever she has a new column in the paper, cunts like Mitch Benn fall over themselves with praise like she invented the written word and how they’ve packs their bags and leaving the wife and kids for her.

I liked her for a while a few years ago but quickly realised once you’ve read one Hyde column, you’ve read them all.

Can’t disagree with many of the names suggested so far but I’d be tempted to give Musk a pass, a narcissist for sure but can’t deny what he’s achieved and he’s a top troll. Bezos comes across a much bigger moron from what I’ve seen.

I’ll nominate Jeremy Clarkson, a man without relevance for at least a decade yet I still see his scrotum-like face in the news because he owns a farm or something like that.

  5. The sea. I grew up on the west coast of Scotland and my childhood summers were filled with camping on the beach, jumping off piers and generally being by the sea and then as I’ve mentioned before I went to work at sea, which gave me the opportunity to travel to places that I didn’t know existed let alone imagined visiting.
The beach is my favourite place to take the dog now, doesn’t matter the weather, in fact some days I actually enjoy it more when it’s a bit wild as I tend to be the only one there. Equally love walking along a busy promenade and grabbing a bag of chips and a cone in the middle of summer.
I’ve thought about it before but I’m still not sure what it is about it that tends to calm me down and make be a bit happier. Possibly the vastness of it and how insignificant it makes my problems feel. I also love how drastically it changes, serene and millpond like one day and harsh and unforgiving the next.

All sounds a bit daft but yeah, I love the sea.

Now that right there is pretty unique. Or just plain bollocks.

I’m talking about a group of mates that have been close since school, we’re allowed to support different teams but, generally, align politically. If you find that hard to believe perhaps that says more about your outlook than mine. I’m not sure what I’d achieve by making that up?

Do you vote Tory, David? Genuine question. We’ve ruled out SNP, I imagine you’re loathe of them extends to Greens, you don’t strike me as a Lib Dem and your vitriolic hatred of SNP is more in tune with Tories than it is Labour.

    So, bigoted Protestant Rangers fans?

You discussed this with him in this thread, so I’m sure he will let us know if his position has changed.

Most of my mates are Protestant and/or Rangers fans, they also mostly support Scottish independence. The Staunch are a special, frothing at the mouth, breed.

I’m not sure I follow this, I though David was pro independence. Is that what staunch means in this context?

It’s typically used toward someone who’s very pro-union and enjoys silly wee parades in July. He’s definitely not pro-independence but I have no doubt he’s about to come in here and post a wall of text twisting himself in knots claiming that he is but not under SNP/Sturgeon or something like that. Here’s the advance notice that I’m tapping out when he does.
For disclosure, I’ve voted SNP once and have voted Labour or Green on far more occasions.

    Staunch? Please expand on that.

But hey, you can't voice anti-SNP opinions, because if you do you're either not a patriotic "real" Scot, or you're a bigoted Protestant Rangers fan, which is rather bewildering.

You’re doing a good enough job yourself.

Second part is just complete bollocks.

  10. Nothing to add but more stories like this please. Crypto/NFT Bros thought they bought the rights to Dune and planned on turning it in to NFTs, in fact all they bought was an old book. Seems like a Ponzi scheme, I get the functionality behind blockchain/crypto but I have no idea what purpose NFTs are trying to serve. What if I Google image search one of those bored apes and set it as my screensaver, is the owner of the NFT coming to my door to demand a tenner?

Citation? Watch any Scottish First Minister Questions. The SNP treat both Scottish Labour and the Scottish 'Tories with disdain. As I said, shit rolls downhill.

I do regularly watch PMQs and FMQs, saying they’re comparable is just plain wrong, but you’ve always come across as “staunch” so it’s no surprise you’re trying to frame it as such.

  12. 59 minutes ago, David said:

The attitude of the 'Tories to the SNP is no different to the same disdain that the SNP themselves show to the "unionist" Labour and Scottish 'Tories up here.

    Shit rolls downhill.

    As usual, citation needed.

  13. Johnson: “we’re launching a fantastic new policy to get 500,000 people back in to work”

Reality: “we’ll cut your benefits if you don’t accept any old job, full time or not, after 4 weeks. 2 weeks before you’re even likely to receive your first UC payment”

I expect a ratcheting up of anti-benefits and anti-immigration rhetoric to get the gammons back on board.

I'm not sure if it's a culture or language thing or just in our office but starting sentences with a "so" with a long "ooh" sound seems to be the equivalent of going "erm" for evey German person I work with.

Yeah, it’s really common. “Achso” is also something you might hear as a sort of “yeah” or “exactly” or something else that indicates they agree with or at least follow what you’re saying.

  15. RIP Wim, what a Barnet. Only with the club for a season but holds iconic status due to stoping 10 in a row and signing Henrik Larsson, probably the best player to have played in Scotland in my time as a fan.

  16. You’ve probably seen in the news this morning that Nusrat Ghani is alleging she was sacked from her ministerial job for being Muslim. I met her a few years ago through work when she was a couple months in to her job as Minister for Shipping, the job she was sacked from, and it was a pretty surreal experience. Every now and then we get a visit from a Minister or a Secretary of State and when we do the Port Director puts on a lunch and invites a few of us along to make up the numbers. I was a trainee Marine Pilot at the time and was asked to come along to meet her and explain a little bit about the quirks and challenges of the district. When I met her, I introduced myself as a trainee pilot (I use Marine Pilot when talking to those outside the industry because they invariably think I’m talking about planes if I don’t) and her face went blank before she asked me, in all seriousness, if I was training to fly helicopters?! For context, we’re an island nation with 95% of our trade arriving or leaving by sea and pilots are a pretty integral part of this, and have been since Henry VIII, in fact nothing moves (with a few exceptions) without a pilot onboard. After I explained the role of a Marine Pilot to the Minister of Shipping and could tell it still wasn’t clicking,  she again stared at me blankly before telling me she thought that it was great that I had decided on a career change at my age?! I made no mention of a career change before that so started to, frustratedly, explain to her that actually this was the job I had been working towards for the last 10 years. The Harbour Master sensed that the conversation was becoming fraught and quickly thrust a piece of cake in front of her before swerving the conversation towards something she was more comfortable talking about, ie. not shipping.
Long story short, these aren’t clever people.
I have sympathy with her if she was sacked for the reasons she’s claiming but it doesn’t change the fact that’s she’s a complete tool.
