  1. Incredible television, I binged it all in 3 days and I’m so glad I did because I don’t think I could have handled waiting for each episode to air.

    Spoiler

Wilf played a blinder right till the end but turning on Kieran was a really stupid play, he should have known Kieran wouldn’t go without blowing his cover.

Hannah would’ve backed Wilf to the end and they could have easily got rid of Aaron and Meryl, leaving the Traitors with the money without breaking a sweat. You need to keep two traitors in the final for them to win imo.

I’m hoping the contestants in the next series are a bit more canny as there were some terrible players in this one who treated it more as a popularity contest than a game of deceit. I would say the Traitors lost this rather than Faithfuls winning it. Would love see it a bit detective work rather than just “I love you”, “I trust you” “I know you’re a faithful” etc.

  2. We’re having my partners side of the family over this year; her parents, sister, uncle and paternal grandparents. I was really looking forward to it as despite not being overly fussed about Christmas I do love hosting and cooking for big groups of people but her grandad is already doing his best to spoil it. He’s your typical working class, Daily Mail reading,  Brexiteer/Tory, knows very little but has an opinion on everything and just generally a very difficult person, who tries to have a lot of control over his family.

First sign that he was going cause issues is when we initially invited them a month or so back as he had decided that he wanted to host this year, the guy is approaching 80 and is struggling to look after his wife who has advanced dementia (he’s refusing to accept family or outside help), there is no way he could have managed it all.

Then, after graciously offering us a hostess trolley to use for the day (I don’t need it but agreed to take it to keep him happy) he’s been badgering us for the last two weeks about when he can bring it over as he won’t have time in the days before Christmas. His life consists of watching TV and playing bowls once a week. It’s a similar situation if you ever dare to borrow something. He came round one day when I was in the middle of some DIY and I mentioned I was going to have to buy a grinder, he offered me his which I took but my girlfriend was then hounded for the next week about when he’d get it back, knowing full well it would be going back to sit untouched in his garage.

Anyway, the final straw was tonight as he’s now decided he’ll also be doing a full Christmas dinner on Wednesday that we’ve all been summoned to.  My partner doesn’t want to go, neither does her sister who’s staying with us for a couple of weeks as she’s back from Germany and nor her parents yet not one of them will tell him that it’s unnecessary, we’re all busy and that his passive micro-aggressions can do one.

Sorry, for the rant but it’s put a dampener on a week that I’ve been looking forward to.

My point is who is that (realistic) option that would definitely be better?

Rodgers? Southgate’s done a very good job at England, any suggestion otherwise is a bit mental but he’s probably taken them as far as he’s going to, better to leave on a relative high of a few good tournaments and hand the team over in a better position than he found them.

Personally if Scotland had reached the World Cup I’d have cheered for them as well. But them getting anywhere near a major tournament is about as likely as England winning a second World Cup.

Apart from the last major tournament before this one?

Messi lifting the World Cup would be the most fitting conclusion to end this generation.

Might inspire him to finally pay the taxes he owes. Fuck Messi.

  7. I’ve only tried parathas a few times so I’m far from an expert but to get the crispy outside and cooked all the way through I found I had to fiddle with the temp quite a bit. Too low and they ended up chewy, too high and they were burning on the outside before cooked through. I’d recommend a thick based cast iron pan as they maintain an even cooking temp a lot better than your Teflon’s etc, trial two or three till you find the right setting. And as deathrey says, lots and lots of butter (I use ghee as you can take it to higher temps without it browning).

  8. Cheers folks. I’m sure I’ll be in here at a panic at some point in the not too distant future.
I’ve been told similar re: boys vs girls and if my nephew is anything to go by then I’m braced for an exhausting few years. He’s the sweetest wee boy but, man, he does not have an off switch. I’m burst after an hour with him.

  9. Found out we’re having a little boy, I’m over the moon. Obviously I’d have been happy either way but, selfishly, I was hoping for a boy. I never knew my biological dad and have always had a strained relationship with my step-dad, despite him being around since I was a toddler and felt like I missed out on that bond. Hopefully, I get to experience that now, albeit in the opposite direction.

Should save this shit for my counsellor but, yeah, I’m absolutely buzzing.

Done with Ragnarok. The story came together fine at the end, but what a bloated, needlessly overlong experience. I was sick of it through large portions of the second half, and that's with me skipping most of the side stuff from the part I came in here to complain about onwards. There's only so many hundreds of times you can hear a companion shout "look out, he's behind you!" etc before you question why don't you just zoom the camera out and let me see all the people I'm fighting? Because it might stop it looking like an identikit Souls game? Because it might ruin the wanky one-shot camera gimmick? One of the biggest gaming disappointments ever. The first dozen or so hours were so good, too.

Aye, I’ve given up at the Angrboda bit, which isn’t nearly as far in to the game as I thought it was. It’s just so bloody tedious. Such a shame because I loved the others and had been looking forward to this all year. I’ll probably go back to it at some point over Christmas but if doesn’t improve again then I can’t see me finishing it. No idea how it’s been reviewed so well, I think the Guardian called it a masterpiece ffs.

Anna Haugh is doing my head in on Master chef professionals. She keeps doing that bug eyed look and signing her head to the side with her weird tight lippped smile. She does it incessantly.

“Layyyyers of flavour” to describe every fucking dish. Always thought Monica Galetti was a bit wooden but I’d take her any day over Anna and Greg trying to out-obnoxious each other.

Agree the professionals is all about the skills test. Seeing a vignette of a chef brag about how many starred restaurants they’ve worked in only to go to bits a minute later when asked to make a crème patissière is pure entertainment.

It would be great if it happened but I think some fan elements think they’re more important to a club than they are. I’m particularly looking at those green brigade nonces in the scotch league.

The Green Brigade barely have sway with other Celtic fans never mind the board. Displays aside, they’re an embarrassment and mostly just teenagers doing a bit of Ultras cosplay.

If you care about not being spoiled for Ragnarok just, completely avoid the Internet or something. IGN's homepage is live streaming the whole thing without warning. You can't even type "god of war ragnarok" into the Google search bar without the autocomplete also offering spoilers!

Thanks for the heads-up. I preordered on the PS Store so that it would download overnight and I could play before going to work later but, of course, it hasn’t downloaded so I’m now sat watching the download bar tick along - only an hour to go!

  14. Al Jazzera’s documentary The Labour Files is worth a watch(YouTube), even if they do go over the same points more than a few times. The 2017 election was such a missed opportunity and I’ll never not be angry about it.  Some of the blame has to lie with Corbyn and his crew though, dancing to their tune was never going to work and his idea of “doing politics differently” was unbelievably naïve for a man who should’ve known exactly how Westminster institutions operate.

Where better to ask a question like this than the UKFF. Probably lots of places but I like it here.

Heading to the UK  for the first time in years in December and it seems car hire companies want to try and get blood out of a stone with the prices. Thinking it's cheaper to look for alternatives such as buying or anything else that won't cost me a £1500. Any tips on where or how to find a cheap hire or purchase in the UK these days?

Use a local small independent car/van hire place. They’re no frills and a lot cheaper than your Enterprises etc. I’ve used a few different ones and always found them more pleasant to deal with.

  16. This is dreadful and getting worse. The dialogue is some of the worst I’ve ever heard, it’s just idioms and heavy-handed exposition, nothing else. The way everyone pronounces any proper noun, with some throaty profoundness, has to be a joke.
Galadriel is insufferable and impossible to root for, not great for the hero of the show. In fact, the whole thing is lacking any sort of charm whatsoever. Four episodes in, which is close to five hours of television, and the story has barely moved along. It’s all so bloody dull.
