Babymetal are oddly becoming a staple of british rock festivals, I really wont be surprised if we see them over here again next year.

Don't know if you know but they're doing Wembley Arena as their own headline show next year. Mental.

Yeah, these 2 appearances this past weekend were nothing more than a 30 min ad for that show. The whole "listen, listen, listen! We playing Wembley.." etc bit at then end with the date up on the screen kind of hammered home that point.

  2. Had a great day at Leeds Festival yesterday (only did a day as Fri-Sat looked awful). LEft with one of the big inflatable Metallica balls (this Leeds one will go nice with the Glastonbury one i got last year). Might have been the best i've ever seen Metallica. And Gojira, Royal Blood and Seether were on fantastic form. Caught the following over the day,,

    Babymetal
    Fidlar
    Marmozets
    No Devotion
And So I Watch You From Afar
    Royal Blood
    Seether
    Gojira
    Metallica

Am I right in thinking that Sasha, Becky and Charlotte are now off to the main roster full time? If so where does that leave the women's division? Dana isn't anywhere near there level even if they want her to be. Emma is good in the ring but I just don't buy her as a top heel. Of course that could change. It sort of feels like Bailey is left with no one to feud with.

I know there were rumours in the last few days that Sarah Stock (TNA's Sarita) had been, or would be, signed. So that's a good experienced talent to add to the mix. Also rumours of Athena, an indie talent i'm unaware of, being signed. So i think they're looking to add some more experienced women to the division alongside the likes of Carmella, Dana, and Eva. Then they still have Alexa and Bayley, plus Blue Pants. Who are all pretty capable. So i think the division will pick up again after a temporary lull. Then again, Owens got called up and continued to work NXT, so it's possible Sasha, Charlotte, and Becky will be around for a little while yet. Sasha is owed a rematch wither way.

Sarita would be a great addition I agree. Has it been confirmed Kana has been signed? That could really heat it up. Not sure if Alexa is capable yet to be fair. I'd put her on the level of Dana etc. A very good prospect but not read to lead the division in a top spot.

I'd have Alexa above Dana any day of the week, but agree she still hasn't shown herself to be at the level to lead the division. Her character work has come along a lot since she turned, and i could see her growing as an in-ring talent. Kana would be a hell of an addition, but haven't heard anything yet. Still seems very odd she was in Brooklyn if she isn't at least being looked at by them. i.e. Bring her to Brooklyn to see the show and meet with her. If you were going to bring someone in to see what NXT is all about, then Brooklyn was the best place to do it if you're trying to get a signing out of it.

All the guys and gals did well. The only other downer I could think of was, well, Cass, Carmella and Enzo should have been on there at least in a live skit. Damn shame.

Carmella wrestled a match taped for NXT TV prior to the preshow starting. A friend of mine is a friend of hers and she sorted him comp tickets. I believe Enzo and Cass wrestled earlier in the night too. So it's a shame they missed out on the live show, but did get to wrestle in front of the crowd. In Carmella's case, she had he Mum and Dad in the crowd.

  7. Id love to experience that myself.

Anyone here off to see a date on the actual Sepultura tour later in the year?

I wish, but have so many gigs lined up for the tail end of the year i can't justify it. Did get tickets to the Sabaton and Alestorm tour in Feb though. I've been very fortunate when it comes to watching bands from the side of the stage at BOA. It's always different and always a great experience. What you dont get to see behind the curtain is interesting too. Headliners have all day to setup back there, while the rest of the lineup is being setup 2 bands ahead (they do this around anything the headliner's people are doing). So you have a lot of kit back there, drums being checked while a band is on etc. You also have a lot of band members doing stuff ahead of their sets.

  8. It varies depending on the band's setup and where you are. As obviously the monitors are for the benefit of the band rather than the people standing watching up there. Last year we saw Evil Scarecrow from the side of the stage and it was pretty clear, but due to where we were the keyboard was louder. For Napalm Death the sound was pretty well balanced and loud. With Sepultura it was pretty balanced and at a nice loud volume also, but Derrick sounded a little quiet. Not so much that it spoiled it though. It's such a unique way to watch a band you've been a fan of for 20 years, definitely something i will remember. Such a weird thing to be stood a few feet away from a band you've listened to for so long and to be in the smoke on the stage.

  9. How did you manage to get there?

Fucking quality that was though, Sepultura are still fucking great. Anyone been reading the recent Max Cavalera comments with regards to the band? He comes off like a right tosser.

With much good fortune lol. Won a competition to watch a band of my choice (not a headliner or special guest slot) from the side of the stage. So i picked Sepultura. Got up there shortly before they came on, and left shortly after they finished. Was left up there alone as it goes. "you know the way our right?". So that was unique.Always quite the experience walking through the artist area, which i was lucky enough to do on 2 different days this year. Also got to watch a little of Napalm Death from the side of the stage on Saturday during my backstage tour (perk of Rock Society membership). Great view of the carnage from up there.

  10. Funny you should mention Ghost, as this was my first suggestion when Vicky asked me who i'd like to see booked in the future. Mastodon was mentioned in a similar conversation with her last year, and her response to both was positive. I also threw Saint Vitus into the discussion and she was in to that idea also. Someone mentioned a band, can't remember who, that she said she loved, but couldn't see at BOA. So she's pretty open about things.

Headliners are booked quite a long way out, so this is another reason i'm not feeling Slayer. When Lamb of God headlined, people assumed it was to capitalise on the press surrounding Randy Blythe. The reality is that they were actually booked for the slot before any of that happened. A good 18 months or so before they played BOA.

Vicky has an incredibly hard job given she has to book a festival true to BOA's mantra of "by fans, for fans". But she also has to book a commercially viable and financially sensible festival. There are a lot more people now vs 5 years ago, so that only makes it harder. I think she strikes the balance quite well to be honest. There are a number of bands who will draw HUGE crowds in Europe, but will only generate a few extra ticket sales at BOA. These bands command big pay days and it isn't viable to give them that kind of money to play at BOA when it's not going to have the same drawing power. In reality she has a mostly thankless job, which is a bit crap given how great the festival always is. One great example is when she booked Hatebreed the other year. She got trashed online heavily for it, yet they came and slayed it on stage, drawing a huge crowd. As i said to her, she's in a tough spot and can't do anything right. But she always gives us a great festival. Metalheads are the most elitist fuckers going when they want to be. Which is sad given how good of a community we are too.

  11. A lot thought Judas Priest would have been there this year with it being the 15th festival, and the same thinking for next year for the 15th anniversary.

They are a logical booking who would draw, but it all comes down to asking price I imagine.

They also spoke of a massive clue of one of next years headliners over by the bar next to the New Blood Stage. The only thing I can think of was the massive ad for the new Slayer album that was there on the Saturday. It was on a massive trailer rather than a poster on one of the walls like the other upcoming Nuclear Blast releases

Price is always a key factor. It's actually the reason they haven't had some of the big power metal acts. Vicky Hungerford was telling me that it's a simple case of those power metal acts being huge in Europe, thus they can command big money there. But they don't draw as well in the UK, thus the return on that kind of investment isn't viable. Then there are the travel expenses to take into account for all the kit.

Slayer would surprise me as they headlined 2013 and it seems way too soon. Granted Behemoth headlined 2012, but as they aren't headlining this time around it's not quite the same.

RE: Within Temptation. I had it on good authority that it was a simple case of the safety cut off kicking in. Much like surge protected plugs cut the power to prevent damage to other equipment, this was the case with Within Temptation's set. That spot in that song for whatever reason pushed the the setup too far and the safety kicked in. This is why it happened at that exact point 3x. We were discussing it on the stage while waiting for Sepultura to come on. It's just an unfortunate happening and left the end of their set pretty flat.

I thought they dealt with it pretty well to be fair.

Yeah, once it became clear it wasn't goign to happen and they skipped past the song, it was handled as well as it could be. It's just a shame it meant the crowd didn't get back into it properly again as they played one upbeat song and 2 slow songs to finish. I felt bad for them. Met them earlier in the day and they were all great, Sharon especially.

  14. Got home from Bloodstock yesterday after a great weekend, arguably the best yet in terms of the overall experience. Highlights for me were watching all of Sepultura's set from the side of the stage, watching a bit of Napalm Death from the stage (nuts watching the crowd from up there), and meeting a whole bunch of bands at the signing tent. Sabaton (Ikea! Ikea!), Rob Zombie, Raging Speedhorn, Pro-Pain, and Korpiklaani all played blinders. Biggest highlight of the weekend was getting to chat to the lovely Vicky Hungerford, the director of BOA, for 20 mins on Saturday afternoon. Such a lovely woman. Roll on 2016!!

Now to Ikea to buy a tank!

  15. I can't imagine many people will agree with me on this, but I'd love WWE to use more early 2000s nu-metal type songs for their PPVs.  A Saliva song would instantly make a PPV watchable.  I can't put up with the shit from C-List rappers they use these days.

While i agree the generic rap shit is tiresome, they have used some decent tunes recently. Motionless in White the other month and We Are Harlot, who put out a great debut album, for SummerSlam.
