  1. Satyricon self confirmed for Bloodstock, then pulled the post. So that's bound to be announced officially soon. They are playing Nemesis Divina in full on their dates next year apparently, so it's likely we'll get that. Twisted Sister are promising another date on their final tour will be announced before the end of the week. So seems they'll be the main announcement tomorrow.

  2. Do they usually announce on there? If not, it must be a pretty big name to warrant doing so

They have all 3 headliners locked in and apparently they are REALLY good this year. According to Vicky Hungerford anyway. She's quite excited about them. Apparently they've picked up some great acts across the bill this year.

  3. Fair play to BFMV, from what i hear they pulled a solid crowd last night in York. Judging by how busy the bar i was DJing in became after they finished, it definitely backs that up. I guess for me i just don't see them as healdiners. One of those bands that will forever be the bridesmaid, but never the bride. But then that is purely my opinion. I actually had the discussion last night along the same lines as this, and we pretty much settled on BMTH being the band that should be given the top slot if it's going to be one of them. They are definitely the band of the moment and capitalising on that now would be the smart play, especially if it creates a new headline level band for future years.

  4. Pearl Jam and Foos are possibilities, Pearl Jam seem to be rumoured every year but you've got to think that Glastonbury would outbid for Foos. System Of A Down, or more accurately Serj and Daron, can't bare to be in the same room as eachother and only play for the money

I expect Glasto gets the Foos this year (or next) due to them being unable to do their headline slot this year. I'm fine with that as i'm there again this year. While System don't get on, i could still see it. As you say, they play for the money. And they'd get a good sum for a headline slot. While i know it would cause a fuck load of backlash, but then most announcements do, how about Bon Jovi? With the mention of pop punk above, i could only really see Green Day getting a headline slot at Download. But it would switch things up a little. There is at least now some weight behind talk of a reunion of the original GnR lineup, so that's a possibility for next year or beyond. Anyone talking about it for this year is having a laugh though (and iv'e seen a LOT of people talking about it like it's a realistic possibility).

  5. While i don't like BMTH, right now they seem to be the hot property and are just coming off successful sub-headline slots at R+L to Metallica. So i think they are the more likely option if AC is going to take a chance on someone new. I just don't see BFMV headlining Download when they are playing 2 mins walk from my flat in a 1900 capacity venue on Friday. A few years ago they were playing arenas, and the mid range venues. Neither would make me buy a ticket (i'll be off regardless though) and neither will be a band i watch. But i would think BMTH is the safer bet right now.

Who else is a real contender right now? FFDP are hugely popular, but more so their side of the pond. But i'd put them ahead of BFMV here in terms of the crowds they pull for their tours. BSC seem very much on their way. It obviously wouldn't be this year though.

Then there are the names that have either never played, or aren't common appearances. Bands like Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam, and System of a Down.

  6. I don't think BFMV stand a chance to be honest. Nothing against them though. But a band playing the Barbican here in York on Friday is not a Download headliner. It's a hell of a step up. They aren't as big today as a few years ago, so i think their time has passed as regards being in contention for a Download headline slot. Of course this is just my opinion, and wouldn't be the first time i've been wrong lol.

  7. To add to the Download speculation.. Rammstein are announcing dates for the Summer very soon.. So a Sabbath, Maiden, Rammstein triple is looking possible.

Just got home from watching the fantastic Devin Townsend play an acoustic show in a church in Leeds. It was fantastic, lovely bloke to meet as always.

  8. So.. Songkick had Download in Korn and Maiden's upcoming gigs. Has since been removed. While not a huge shock on either front, i still thought it was worth a mention. Maiden are apparently playing the Friday. While Korn are apparently doing the Saturday. I expect Korn to either subheadline or headline the 2nd stage with the full play though of 'Korn' gimmick they're doing right now. With Sabbath strongly rumoured to be doing the festival also for their final UK festival appearance ever. It's looking like here's only one headline slot left. Purely speculation of course, but seems pretty much on the money.

  9. Is there anyone in wrestling more likeable and laid back than The Godfather? Just been watching his old RF shoot interview and he seems like such a happy and fun bloke. I'm not surprised when he says he never had any problems with anyone in the business because a) he looks pretty badass and b) he seems almost impossible to dislike. The only person he's had anything negative to say about so far has been Tiger Ali Singh, and even then he wasn't a dick about it.

Edit - he's not keen on Johnny Ace and Stevie Richards either.

I've met him twice and he's a great bloke. He spent the weekend at PCW calling me "Brian" any time our paths crossed, as i reminded him of Brian "Crush" Adams. Then at LWC him and Nation debated me looking like a blazer during the photo shoot. And we had a good laugh at the signing table. I'd taken a pic of me, him and the hos from PCW down to be signed, and he took great delight in pulling Ron over to show him. One of the best i've had the privilege to meet. Just so down to earth, likeable, and genuine.

  10. For me it really was. With the others being pretty quiet and there only being 4 of us (normally there are MANY more judging by pics of the other VIP events), i really enjoyed the whole experience. Debating the pros and cons of the new Sabbath album with Jericho, and talking classic rock was a great experience. Rich is one of the most laid back guys you could ever hope to meet, just a genuinely nice bloke who you could chat to for hours. Billy, Frank, and Paul are all equally great guys.

Day started with us waiting outside the venue for their rep to settle up balances. Then it was in to the venue to watch soundcheck and be given some bits and bobs (signed pic laminate, bandanna). Then we were shown over the road to a bar where we had a roped off private corner with a full platter put on to eat. We waited 10 mins or so and the band joined us as their dinner arrived. We then sat discussing all sorts over dinner. Not once was wrestling mentioned which, despite me being a huge fan, i really appreciated. I would have found it disrespectful to the other band members, and in some way disrespectful to Jericho who was there as a musician and not as a wrestler. Equally i find the Y2J chants at their shows annoying. After dinner we all had pics taken with the band and said our goodbyes. At which point i asked Rich if i could grab one of his picks later on. He then pulled out one from his pocket and gave it to me. I have this in my collection still. Then we all headed over the road and waited for the doors to open for the show.

Appreciating that I'm in a minority, being almost exclusively a puro fan & a DVD collector to boot [as opposed to all the new methods of viewing]. Does anyone know of any reliable DVD traders, who stock current shows?  Slambamjam's still going, but isn't the cheapest and doesn't currently stock BJW [one of the Promotions I try to follow], IVP seems to have pretty much knocked downloads on the head, due to payment method issues, Ginnetty I only dealt with once & it was like pulling teeth & Lynch's catalogue was too massive & 'knock three times and ask for Irene', in terms of accessibility.

Not sure as far as DVDs go. But Rudo Reels might be worth a look. Their prices are reasonable and their blu rays have been great thus far.

Are they okay to ship to UK? Just having a look and seems to have a flat postage fee, but wants a 'state'?

Yeah, they definitely ship here fine. Any problems just email them, they are pretty easy to talk to. Just pop your county in the state box. That's what i do.

  12. my mate's band (The Dirty Youth) were the main support on Fozzy's last UK tour, he said Jericho was a sound fella.

I saw Fozzy years back in Swansea and met Jericho and Rich Ward DJ'ing in the local club after the show. I was just as happy to meet Rich Ward as i was Jericho, love his style.

The Duke is a lovely fella. Really down to earth. Spent time discussing KC & The Sunshine Band, Sabbath, Abba, and more with him. I did the VIP gimmick a few years back as a birthday treat to myself when i turned 30. I was one of 4 who did it for York that day. the others barely spoke as they were clearly nervous. So i spent a lot of time chatting to the lads. Pretty great day by all accounts, Soundcheck, dinner with the band, then the show. You don't half get some looks sat in a bar eating dinner with Jericho lol

  13. Is the large appeal of Fozzy not just meeting Jericho after the gig?

Doesn't happen, or only happens very rarely. They do run VIP tickets for all their dates normally though. I'm a big fan of Fozzy as i find them to be a lot of fun live, i was a Stuck Mojo fan also, so it's only natural i'd give them a chance. Lovely bunch of guys too.

RE: Ticket prices... It's down to what you feel a show is worth to you personally i think. I dropped £150 on 2 floor tickets for Muse's upcoming tour. Expensive, but i know it will be awesome. They never hold back on their  stage setups and thi9s one is supposed to be something special. So i'm looking forward to it.

  15. Been a good week for me. Went to see Ricky Warwick and Damon Johnson doing an acoustic show here in York last Tuesday, just fantastic stuff from 2 great performers. Lots of Black Star Riders and Thin Lizzy as expected. But some great surprises too like Summertime Blues and Little Red Corvette. And Damon Johnson's own 'Pontiac' is still an amazing song. Very intimate show with 65 tickets sold in advance and only a handful more on the door. The guys hung around after for a natter, class acts the pair of them..

Then we did the Wildhearts on Leeds last night. Set was 'phuq' in it's entirety  and then an encore of various favourites. Such a great night and a red hot crowd, all be it a small one of the o2. 13 years since i last saw them too. So was a special one for me.

  16. The UCLan show was a lot of fun. Sadly we turned up late an missed a match or 2 (the drive over from York often results in us being late, so the move to Saturdays next year is a welcome one). Reasonable attendance and plenty of PCW regulars, so didn't feel over run with drunken freshers like i'm sure some were expecting. Great show and definitely well worth the trip over as usual. Roll on Friday!

  17. "Medical Emergancy" is the official reason being given.

I remember seeing The Libertines at Leeds 2003 when they were performing without Peter, who I think was in prison at the time. I can't remember if it was Carl doing vocals or one of the other lads, but they were quite good that day

Saw them at Glastonbury this year. Was a unique show in the sense that they were not announced, and until the day, no one had a clue what was happening with the slot Florence and the Machine should have played (as they were bumped up to headline after Air Grohl). The screens either side of the Pyramid Stage show the lineup over the day between bands and the slot was included and labelled as TBC. It remained this way until showtime when as the slot was to begin their banner was raised at the back of the stage to a huge reaction. As my Mrs and a number of peopel we know have worked at the festival and were wortking this year, we got the heads up about who it was 10 mins before they came on stage. But it was still a great moment. As it goes, they were pretty great that day and played a decent 70 min set.

In other news.. Muse have announced tour dates!! Will be jumping all over that.
