  1. http://www.hellfest.fr/

The first Hellfest announcement was made yesterday and the top acts are getting a lot of negative response. Trivium in a high profile spot at Hellfest? Fuck no. It's widely hoped that the next announcements will be better. Although this one has got some top bands - Alcest, Anaal Nathrakh, Darkspace, dISEMBOWELMENT, Napalm Death, Necros Christos, Solstafir mainly.

The general consensus seems to be that because Hellfest sold out last year for the first time there's a fear that this year they're going to go more mainstream, which I certainly hope is not the case. I do think the next announcement will be better, but this one pales in comparison to the first announcements of the last few years.

I thought this years line-up was pretty poor. Looks decent so far for next year.

I'm not really a fan of Trivium (they're ok) but they're surely no more 'commercial' than Ozzy, Scorpions, Black label, Iggy, Disturbed!?, Alter Bridge! All of whom were there last year.

  2. I went to Brutal Assault festival in Czech Republic last week. I'll write more of a review later, but it's a really good festival, definitely recommend it. I did Metal Camp last year, which was also great, and i think i'll try Summer Breeze next year.

  3. A classic may be a bit of a stretch, but it is a very impressive album, especially for a very young band's debut at the time. The follow up album, 'The Negation', was another very strong effort

I think the band members were aged between 14 and 18 when they recorded Winds of Creation, which is insane for how great it is. Nihility and The Negation are awesome albums aswell.

  4. ive been looking forward to it, i saw the new band live and they were quality...granted they were playing old material.

I'm surprised, i've read some good reviews for the Decapitated album.

Like Ebb i saw them live with the latest singer and thought he was good, much better than the 2nd singer they had. I can understand why some people don't like it though, cos he is quite alot different to the original. So it does change Decapitated's sound a bit. And to be fair to Decapitated there first few albums are amazing, so it was always going to be hard to produce something as good as them.

  5. This month is pretty good for metal releases (well my tastes anyway).

July 11th - Enter Shikari - Live From Planet Earth

July 18th: Malefice - Awaken The Tides

    Decapitated - Carnival Is Forever

Suicide Silence - The Black Crown

July 25th - Iwrestledabearonce - Ruining It For Everyone

And with Black Dahlia Murder - Ritual and Of Mice And Men - The Flood recently released, the next few weeks might be expensive for me.

  6. Manowar have said on Twitter they will be touring the UK in November (no dates announced as yet), no doubt to coinside with the 'Hammer Of The Gods' album

I have little interest in Manowar but i went to Metal Camp last year and they had a big tent in the camping area for the Manowar festival thing the day after. They played bands and had quizzes and stuff for Manowar fans.

And their fans are so varied, from little kids to old school metallers and generally just really geeky (1 of the quizzes was on Norse Mythology?!) . Me and my friend went their quite alot just cos the fans and people in there were really nice.

Kreator have just been announced for Brutal Assault which i am going to this year. The line-up is looking pretty good now.

  7. Thor wasn't ruined by 3D for me, simply because it was barely noticeable and hardly used.

I can't find the article but there was some well known guy who works in movies (i know thats vague but i can't remember if he was producer/director or what). And he basically complained about how 3D was being used wrongly by the studios. But did say that Transformers 3 should be the next big film to change peoples minds on 3D.

  8. Off the top of my head, UK metal bands i like and are new(ish) or at least still going! Malefice, Trigger The Bloodshed, Arcitects, Rolo Tomassi (i count them as

    at least part-metal).....Ted Maul?!

On another subject, what metal music websites do people use? I mean for news and reviews. I recently discovered metalsucks which is pretty good. Any UK based ones?

  9. I like Speedhorn but they never really progressed much over their albums. They weren't the best musicians, i think they did very well for themselves considering. First Top 40 UK metal single since Maiden!

Onedice (awesome band) actually came on random on my mp3 player the other day, which got me think. UK metal (and rock) was really good, and pretty popular around the nu-metal time. You had Raging Speedhorn, Defenestration, Earthtone9, Scurge, Sikth, Onedice, One Minute Silence, Biffy Clyro, Hundred Reasons, Funeral For A Friend, Lostprophets, Charger, Hondo Maclean, Sunna, Hell is for Heroes, i could go on and on. And they were all getting plenty of press coverage.

So am i completely out of the loop or are there not many good UK bands about anymore? Although i don't buy any magazines now, i try to keep up to date with the music scene, and there seems to be ver few bands about.

  10. I've given the Morbid Angel album one listen. I can see what you're saying and i do like bands trying different things rather than sticking to the same formula. But in the end it's a painfully average (at best) album. And really disappointing. I don't think it would be getting quite so much bad press if it wasn't Morbid Angel.

The vocals are very Max Cavalera-like, the song 'Radikult' reminded me of Soulfly's cover of 'Beautiful People'. I think my favorite songs were 'Destructos VS the Earth / Attack' and 'Profundis - Mea Culpa'. But nothing really stands out.

As i said i still can't wait to see them live this summer, as i never have before. I just hope they keep to 1 or 2 tracks from this album.

  11. I will buy that the first bump off the cage through the table was planned, but I won't buy that the chokeslam through the cage was, it's just way too dangerous. When they DID do that spot, in their next cage match, they had a gimmicked ring so that he took a bump into some padding - that suggests very strongly that the first one was a mistake.

IMO Foley was exceptionally lucky not to die that night.

I reckon the chokeslam was planned, cos he didn't even leave his feet. I think knowing that it probably would of killed him if he took a normal chokeslam bump. I still think the 1st bump was more dangerous. Theres no room for error on his landing.

  12. It was planned. It's in Foley's book. Funk coming down was of course to allow Foley recovery time, but that was probably planned too.

In his book I swear he claims that the bump through the cell was unplanned. I find that hard to believe though.

He says Funk took the chokeslam to bide some time, but I dont think that was planned at all. Just a veteran using his brain.

I think you're right. He doesn't shed a whole lot of light on the match in his book, cos i remember it was one of the things are really wanted to read about. They must of had a few things planned for the match, with the possibility that Mick Foley wouldn't be able to continue or do very littel after the 1st or 2nd bump.

  13. I had a listen to the earthtome9 EP. It's good but not quite as good as i hoped. The third track 'The Trail That We Carved out' is really good though.

Also been listening to a couple of new tracks. Suicide Silence - You Only Live Once. Slightly dissapointed. But still enjoyable and i'm looking forward to their album.

    And

. I love this band. This song manages to sound like them, while being very different to anything off there album. It's them at there most pop like and at there heaviest. There not particular well liked by the usual 'metal crowd' and they seem to love that. Especially with there recent black metal press release.
  14. I recently bought Converge - No Heroes and Stampin Ground - A new Darkness Upon Us for a pound each at a car boot sale. The guy had loads of metal cds but unfortunately most i already had. Both albums i really liked.

Also bought the new Skindred album (signed from Play), which i think is probably their best album and the closest they've got to there live sound.

  15. The thing with autism is that it effects every child differently. So if he is doing things differently to other autistic children it's not necessarily something to worry about.

Keep trying with makaton, but also try pictures/symbol cards if possible. They can be very helpful.

  16. Yeah totally agree with what you say about metal fans and why alot of them annoy me (many of my friends included).

I've just had a listen to the Architects song. Wow! I didn't expect that. I actually quite like it but hope it's a one off on the album. I prefer there heavier stuff.

  17. yeh it's a bit of a departure aint it.

I'm all for bands experimenting and all that stuff, but that's a case of completely alienating the metal fanbase. Architects seem to have taken the obvious route of capitalising on their fanbase. For some reason, they seem to be one of these bands who appeal to the Bring Me The Horizon-crowd, it's heavy stuff but it just isn't accepted by the metal community. It doesn't seem to have harmed the band, they are bigger than ever. The whole problem with this scene is eventually the fans who are listening to it are gonna move onto something else and they'll be forgotten. Still, all power to 'em...

I do actually intend to listen to the new Architects album though, it's had some really good reviews.

I can't listen to the Architects song atm but is the whole album supposed to be similar or is it just one song. I'll also be checking out the album whatever.

Why is it that 'metalcore' bands seem to be hated by alot of hardcore metal fans. I'm going to see Whitechapel on Wednesday, and bands like them and Suicide Silence seem to be disliked. Is it just the image that they are disliked for???

  18. I got my 3DS in the post today...... but unfortunately won't have any games (well Pro Evo) until tomorrow.

Despite this i've had a play with the camera and the camera based mini game. The 3D is great, i'm really impressed. Takes a little to get used to but seems perfect.

Can't wait to play on it properly!

  19. I think my dislike for Iron Maiden and Metallica is mentioned earlier in this thread.

Your screen name explains why you hate two bands as great as Maiden and Metallica though.

How anyone can profess to love metal yet hate early Metallica is beyond me.

As i say i went through this earlier in the thread so i wont go on, but i love all types of metal, just not Metallica (and a few others). My username comes back to haunt me....

Anyway i've been listening to Superjoint Ritual - Use Once and Destroy. Such a great album. Heavy and fast, awesome riffs and Phil Anselmo's vocals are at their aggressive best.

  20. As sacrilgious as it may seem, I've never really liked Maiden. I cannot be the only one.

I think my dislike for Iron Maiden and Metallica is mentioned earlier in this thread. I don't really hate Maiden, they just never really interested me.
