  1. I really want to see Dear Zachary. i've heard good and bad things about it.

I've recently watched American Teen, a documentary about high school in America. I quite liked it, mainly cos most of the kids in it are quite likeable in the end. It does feel a bit too much like a movie at times though.

Also watched Metallimania, a documentary on Metallica and their fans. I'm not a fan but the documentary was ok. The guy who made it comes across as a bit of an idiot, constantly trying to make the fans look a bit stupid.

  2. finally visited Poundland and got hold of a couple of DVD's :) picked up 8 Seconds, Rudi Y Cursi, The Sasquatch Dumpling Gang & Unknown. Not bad at all, they had a few others that i already owned.

How often do they get new stuff in? i assume it's a case of first come, first served with them types of things.

My DVD collection has alot of Poundland buys now. They get stuff in sometimes twice a week, very randomly but not at weekends in the store down here. I recently picked up the original The Hills Have Eyes from there.

  3. Kurt Russellmania was a weird PWG show. It felt like (and i guess was) a one-ff PWG showcase, seperate from it's usual stuff. No storylines were continued really or mentioned.

Oh and Paul London does improve as the year goes on in PWG. He's still nothing like he used to be, but he seems to enjoy working in PWG.

  4. Does an un-edited version of the 2002 Revival show exist? Wouldn't mind seeing the full Storm vs Fleisch match after all the years.

I'm pretty sure it exists somewhere, but i don't know how readily available it is.

Mark Sloan would probably be the best person to answer this question.

  5. I watched Tim Burtons Alice in Wonderland yesterday. I'd seen it at the cinema before and i like it. I don't understand the criticism it got. It looks great on Blu-ray aswell.

Ive also been watching lots of Christmas films. Gremlins, still great. Fred Claus(Fred Claus, Santa's bitter older brother, is forced to move to the North Pole.), i like it almost as much as Elf. The Family Stone(An uptight, conservative, businesswoman accompanies her boyfriend to his eccentric and outgoing family's annual Christmas celebration and finds that she's a fish out of water in their free-spirited way of life.) started off badly but did get better. Some very unlikeable people in it, who i think you are suppose to like! The Children(A relaxing Christmas vacation turns into a terrifying fight for survival as the children begin to turn on their parents.) A surprisingly good British horror film starring hannah Tointon of Hollyoaks and Inbetweeners fame. And finally A Christmas Story(Ralphie has to convince his parents, teachers, and Santa that a Red Ryder BB gun really is the perfect gift for the 1940's.) Very American but good. Kept me smiling and laughing throughout.

Is that the one where he drops the Christmas cake or something and says "oh fudge", much to the disgust of his father. And also, when he gets the BB gun, he fires it and recoils into his face and he runs off crying? I believe the boys name is Homer?

I've only seen that film once yeeeeeeeears ago. It amazes me that I remember it just from your BB gun reference. If I'm right that is.

    That is indeed the one!

Yes! An excuse to recycle one of my old posts for the benefit of someone who has experienced The Family Stone:

I agree with everything you wrote pretty much, i just wouldn't of been so harsh. I was hating SJP's character all the way through, but she was slightly saved by (as you've said) several other unlikeable people in the family! And yes Luke Wilson's character was pretty much the only one i liked.

  7. When Ken stood there like Maximus Decimus Meridius, it was a pure WrestleMania moment. CGI or any amount of money cant buy Ken's storytelling and psychology. What a bloke.

I want still that for my Facebook status!

I loved it all tonight, great TV.

  8. I haven't watched any of those movies, i know i'd hate them.

Watched a horror called Steel Trap bought from Poundland yesterday. It's a pretty unoriginal (several people invited to a 'secret party' and are then killed off one by one) and average film. Unintentionally very funny in places, my favorite lines: guy looks at phone "signal blocked - what does that mean?" Girl: Someones blocking the signal"

Watched Home Alone last night, and added with the snow today has got me in the Christmas mood. Not just my favourite Christmas movie, but one of my favourite movies. The 15 minutes of them trying to burgle the house are so great!

  9. , if it had 40% more action and 40% less Mexican stuff

That was my problem with it. I just didn't want to say it in case I offended any gringos...

I think it was enough of a push for Mexicans to have the hero of the movie be an old hideous Mexican who's really tough and beloved by all women, it should've been him in all out action, the whole Mexican revolutionary theme bored me plus (extremely mild spoiler ahead) SPOILER - Highlight the black box to read

there was a scene where Machete stuck a gattling gun to the front of a motorbike and only used it for about 10 seconds! What the fuck? If my hero stuck a badass gun on a badass chopper he'd be shooting people with it for 20 minutes!

And that's one of the reason why i loved Machete so much! It's like he used that for 10 seconds, killed loads of people and then onto the next weapon.

I went to see it on Friday and thought it was great. The opening sequence is how all films should start.

Also watched Louis C.K - Chewed Up. An American stand-up for people who don't know him. It's basically all about him being 40 and how life kinda sucks. Very funny, only about an hour. But it's 2.99 on Play atm, so worth picking up.

  10. The film industry is pushing hard as it makes cam-copies impossible & will go a long way to combating piracy. Sky are pushing 3D as it's the next logical upgrade that people will pay for.

Apparently there are ways of filming 3D. it's not impossible just very hard atm.

I don't think 3D will be a fad that goes away anytime soon though. I used to work at Cineworld, and they have/are spending ALOT of money on changing all there screens to be able to show 3D films. As are alot of the other big cinema chains.

Of course they have because it will bring in a lot of revenue, they will need to keep up with the latest trends or loose out. Just because they have upgraded their screens doesn;t count for a lot.

When did you stop working there anyway?

Since coming back from travelling, one of my jobs now though is cleaning the place.

Anyway. i see your point but it is alot of money, if they thought it was gonna die out in a couple of years, i don't think they'd spend it.

I'm not convinced on 3D TV's though. It works at the cinema, but when i tried a TV it just didn't work right. I think cos even the biggest TV's aren't big enough to use 3D right.

  12. Jackass 3D

About ten of us went to see this, and it made it so much better. I get a bit self conscious about guffawing out loud in the cinema, but everyone was for this (apart from some animal rights folks who walked out during that little prank on Bam), and it was a much better experience for it.

Anyway, I laughed my face off from start to finish. It was great. Some lovely use of slow motion and 3D as well. So many fun parts, but I think "Electric avenue" slayed me the most.

I don't think the film being in 3-D made any difference except for the beginning and end sequences which looked great, the film was funny though. Didn't do anything new but if you like Jackass it's the usual good stuff. Bam really doesn't seem like he wants to do it anymore which is funny, Johnny Knoxville looks really old and skinny, like he's got AIDS or something, it was really weird, the others haven't changed at all. I went with a girl and she nearly puked in the preston exercise scene which was funny.

    Macgruber

Total Crap, i wouldnt recommend it at all

    1/10.

I thought Macgruber was hilarious! I was laughing all the way through, I loved it. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Strangely i said to my friend after seeing Jackass that i thought Knoxville looked in GOOD shape.

Recently i watched Men in Black 2 as it was on TV. It was ok, nothing special but kept me entertained for a couple of hours. Also yesterday i watched Deck The Halls. I love Christmas movies and normally i wouldnt watch one this early but it was on TV and i hadn't seen it before. It wasn't very good though. Danny De Vito's character was particularly annoying.

Finally, i watched Lake Placid 3. I wouldn't say it was great but it was alot more entertaining than i thought it would be. Probably because former Emmerdale 'star' Roxanne Pallett gets very naked about 2 minutes into the film and Neil's sister from Inbetweeners also goes topless. But with bad CGI and some great deaths, i actually quite liked it!

  13. Over the past few days i have watched, Hot Tub Time Machine. Just a really fun and funny film. Not the 1st time i've watched it but it's definetly better watching it with a few friends.

Inglorious Basterds. 3rd Time i had watched this and i seem to be enjoying it more each time. Brilliant performances by pretty much everyone.

Mic Macs. I've never seen Amelie so had no idea what to expect. It's a very strange and has strange humour throughout but was really good. I also loved they way it was shot and the colours. Definitely gonna check out Amelie now.

Green Day Live in Munich. I watched this at Cineworld. While i'm not Green Days biggest fan, i went cos my Dad really wanted to, so i said i'd go with him. Green Day are surprisingly awesome live, really made me want to buy more of there stuff and see them live. The only annoying thing was it was an MTV production which means the camera angle changes every 3 seconds!

  14. I have a big pile of books to get through atm, and i keep buying more! HMV and charity shops are great for books.

I'm currently reading At Home - Bill Bryson, which is him at his informative best. And also, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, which i've only just started but has been good so far.

  15. Anyone seen Let Me In?

I've not seen the remake, but I found the original very underwhelming after all the praise I'd seen it get.

Same here, what was all the fuss about and why was I tricked into watching a movie about children?

    Last night I watched Martyrs

Which I was told by my lass is the most extreme horror film she'd ever seen and she had to turn it off twice before finishing it.

I was expecting torture porn but was pleasantly surprised that it's pretty clever and totally gripping. There are some pretty rough moments though, I'd be interested to hear if anyone on here's seen it. I don't want to give too much of the plot away because I knew nothing of it going in and it was better for it but it's about a girl who gets extremely badly abused and eventually escapes and why that happened.

    It's in French BTW.

Yeah i watched this not long ago and enjoyed it, not what i was expecting. It was pretty harsh and graphic in places. The fact that it was very original helped aswell.

  16. Anyone seen Let Me In?

Not seen the original or know anything about it before watching so was pleasantly suprised as I thought it was a full on horror. Few boys in the cinema shat themselves a few times mind you. The kids in the lead are very good in their parts and it's all held together nicely.

I can't recommend the original to you enough. It is a fantastic, wonderful film.

I only just saw the original, and it is very good. Haunting in fact. I can't quite put my finger on why I enjoyed it so much, but I did. There were so many subtle touches, that if I had not been paying attention to, i'd have missed. Good performances too.

The climax scene, reminded me of the feeling I got during the brief shot of the Joker in TDK when he has his head out of the car and there is no (or a very quiet) soundtrack in the background. I won't spoil it or anything, but there is a certain calm to one shot while all around is chaos that you only get glimpses of. Its the same as in Resevoir Dogs, where you don't see the ear bit, but its your imagination that makes you think you see it, kinda.

If anyone has seen both, is 'Let me In' worth watching. From seeing the orginal I can see 1,000 & 1 ways they could fuck it up. Such as the kids age (have they made them slightly older?), or the slow methodical pace. Please tell me they haven't twilighted it and sexed it all up?

I've only seen the original, but my flatmate has seen both and he liked Let Me In (and was a big fan of the original). He said he probably would of enjoyed it alot more if he hadn't seen Let The Right One In though. He also said both leads were good BUT they did mess up that final scene a bit and it wasn't half as powerful as the original.

  17. Pathology A group of medical students devise a deadly game: to see which one of them can commit the perfect murder.

I only bought this (from Poundland) because it was written by Neveldine and Taylor, the guys that did Crank and Crank 2. It has a Fight Club feel to it, as the medical students have this secret group committing the murders. It was pretty good, nothing like the Crank movies though. It was very graphic and not something you want to watch while eating dinner. Michael Weston, who i'd previuosly seen in Scrubs, puts in a decent performance and the last 15 minutes or so were great.

  18. The Wasp Woman. A cosmetics queen develops a youth formula from jelly taken from queen wasps. She fails to anticipate the typical hoary side- effects.

Another Poundland buy! Firstly the picture and sound is pretty awful even for a 1959 film bought at Poundland. But the film is actually pretty good. Moving along at a steady pace, that gets more interesting as it goes on. Unfortunately the actual Wasp Woman does look pretty comical now, but that can be forgiven as it was made 50 years ago.
