I absolutely HATED the ending of WrestleMania 9 at the time, and still do today. It seemed like all the good work the previous year in having younger or better workers at the top of the card was being flushed away in favour of the same old tired Hogan routine. Plus Hulk looked like a fucking leather man at the time. Plus it sickened me to hear Jim Ross gushing over Hulk Hogan after all his years promoting the more credible NWA/WCW product.
Â
As a 9 year old at the time, I was chuffed to bits. I kind of resented getting Sky just after all the big stars had left, so it felt I was getting a taste of Hulkamania like everyone else had.
Of course in hindsight, it didn't work. But business was down in 93 and Vince had to to go the tried and tested formula. I can't say I blame him.

Never been that keen on Borash as a colour guy tbh, although he's indispensable for the company.Â
I remember Todd Keneley was decent during his short stint as the third guy on Impact.
The current team needs to go though. I'm sure Josh Matthews is an asset in other ways, but polluting the commentary team is not one of them.
-
Haha fantastic. The band is slowly getting back together.
-
I still think of Vince McMahon the commentator before Mr McMahon the heel.
The Nasty Boys are WCW guys for me, same with Lord Steven (William) Regal.
-
He streams it off a different web site...
Â
Fuck sakes, I hope not.

Yup fight did indeed air last weeks thankfully however sportsmania uploaded the pop feed to there VOD section this morning so I've been able to watch it
Â
And just for the record I have app to have a look at it but haven't subscribed as yet as there's no real reason to ATM with me having the fight channel anyway I may however subscribe if the content keeps increasing it's looking pretty good so far
Â
How are you able to watch the Fight Network at the moment?
-
EDIT: Found the clip. It was the Orndorff episode.
You can almost hear Conrad wincing and going "fuuuuck - STFU Ric!" Then quickly avoids the question & moves on ASAP:

Jesus Christ that's cringeworthy....
It all makes sense though as Ric never failed to mention how loaded Conrad is, and he owns his own firm doesn't he?

Fuck me, has there been a year in the WWF where there were as many comings and goings as 1993? Have watched the full year of Raws on the network now (didn't take that long, being 40 minutes apiece). But December's roster is almost unrecognisable from that in January.
Wasn't long until the likes of Hacksaw, Tito Santana, DiBiase, Papa Shango, Koko B Ware, Flair, Perfect, Typhoon, Kamala, Beverley Bros, Beefcake, Bossman, Max Moon, Nasty Boys, Virgil, Repo Man, Skinner etc were all gone.
While you had the Quebecers, Adam Bomb, the Gunns, Men on a Mission, the Smokey Mountain crew, Well Dunn, 1-2-3 Kid, Diesel etc all coming in.
Even of those still there, Luger for example, went through a dramatic gimmick change, same with Crush. Bobby Heenan was a massive loss to the commentary team (but Rob Bartlett wasn't)
Obviously it was a time of massive downsizing for the company and it didn't take long until Raw stopped being live every week. But wow, the change from early to late 93 is massive.

Most of them clock in at over 5 hours tbh.
-
Is this the "Chicken.. erm, Rice, ya know?" thing?Â
Â
Â
If so, it's the only one I really dislike. Goes on for an age.Â
Â
While on the subject, Conrad's long pauses are getting on my nerves by now.

What do you think of the giant blue 'shithawk' (as someone brilliantly described it earlier in the thread) though?
Â
Its a bit strange, I'll grant you that.
Â
Anthem should have sorted this TNA/Impact Wrestling business by now. They knew they were taking over a few months ago. Impact Wrestling doesn't sound too bad imo.
-
I actually don't mind it! It has the six sided ring embedded in it, so I guess that's there to stay. My only criticism is that its rather 'busy' for a simple wrestling logo.

To be fair, this represents a big chunk of my childhood
Â
Â
The classic BBC Darts intro was pretty badass too
Â
-
I got it from the app store tbh. Might have been withdrawn since or something?
-
I suppose the only way TNA can look at it is that every subsciber represents a clear profit. Being a TV company, they probably developed it in-house.
Count me in as one of those who downloaded the app on Amazon Fire but hasn't subscribed yet.

Some crackers there!

Did anyone else think the crowd at the Impact Zone sounded a lot more lively last week compared to recent months? Its been as quiet as a church service for most of last year.Â

As in, what was it about Portugal that was supposed to get him over?
Â
Also, I don't think he was born in Portugal, but his parents are Portugese and he's fluent in the language.

Does anyone else think the Lapsed Fan podcast is massively hit and miss?
Â
There will be parts of certain episodes, like the Colonel Adnan and Steve Austin impressions, that will have my sides splitting with laughter, and other parts where I just skip 30 minutes ahead because of their whining about how the current product is inferior is so grating.
Â
With 3/4/5 hours of content I guess this is bound to be the case, but fucking hell lads, pack in the moaning and keep on with the funny stuff.
Â
I usually nod in agreement with the 'current wrestling is shite' stuff, but appreciate not everyone's as jaded as me. They obviously watch the WWE these days though, which I don't really. Just stop watching if you're not enjoying it.
Â
The Vince impressions are the best bits of the show, and there are episodes like Summerslam 92 and Over the Edge 1999 which have been gripping despite how long they are. But they had some good material to work with there, going on tangents (nothing new there), and reading excerpts from Diana and Martha Hart's books.Â
Â
They've started shilling more and more for donations recently though, I find that a bit off putting tbh.

I think Don West is the part owner of a minor league sports team on the west coast. I know he's done a few things for GFW.What's Don West up to nowadays? He was great. I can give or take Tenay (though he turds all over Josh Mathews) but a big part of TNA died when they got rid of him
Would take Tenay and Don back in an instant. The Pope is annoying as fuck while Josh Matthews isn't much better.
Â
Just watched Thursday's Impact. To be honest, it sounded pretty boring when I read the results on Friday but its a pretty solid show with more wrestling than talking. I doubt 'pretty solid' is good enough to recover what's been lost though.
-
I wonder what the odds are of a new announce team and getting out of that dingy Impact Zone?
-
They've obviously lowered the bar over recent years though. I've always said there was a place for fat wrestlers like Earthquake, Typhoon etc. But I look at someone like Kevin Owens who falls between two stools and just looks out of shape tbh.
Random Thoughts III.

Luger was such a badly handled turn. Given how little time they had, there weren't even subtle differences in the Narcissist's character over the preceding weeks.Â
One week he was looking at himself in the mirror and knocking out jobbers on WWF Superstars, the next he was running out on an aircraft hanger decked out in stars and stripes. Pretty shameless attempt to jump on the patriots' bandwagon really.
