I like Impact as an easy 90 minute(if you record and fast forward through adverts) watch with fun characters (although people like Adonis suck donkey balls), a fairly decent inring product. When I want some amazing matches I'll usually spend time on New Japan World.

Pretty much why I only really watch Impact these days, even though I'm not a weekly viewer. An average of 2 hours a week is enough of an investment into any wrestling company, given how little spare time most of us have compared to when we were kids.

I can't imagine sitting down to watch a 3 hour Raw every week, then Smackdown and then NXT.

All seems like too much of an effort, but as  a consequence, I have no interest in most of the WWE PPV's as half the wrestlers are unrecognisable to me. Bit of a vicious circle, although the Rumble and Wrestlemania still seem enjoyable enough regardless. Maybe when all the part-timers have fully retired, even that will change.

Admittedly, I also have an irrational hatred of how the WWE is (over)produced these days, the use buzz words etc, which clouds the whole product for me.

Impact ticks the boxes as a decent enough show with some star power, its satisfies my needs. I can dip in and watch all the classic stuff I could ever want on the Network.

  2. Well, its more intriguing than the waste of time One Night Only PPV's they currently do.

The company's first house shows seem to be at small Baseball grounds, which is exactly what GFW did when trying to get up and running. I'm sure I read they were sold shows, so maybe the profit margins aren't great but its means no financial risk for the company. They'd sell 10x more merchandise if they had Don West back on the road though, scaring people into buying tat with DJZ's face on it.

Not sure if you liked him or not but it's deffently like Schiavone for WCW, you hear his voice you know it's WCW. Don West is Imapcts vocal I.D, it does the company the world of good. I really hope they are thinking of using West in some capacity, I'd like to see him in the Mean Gene role if they are not going to use him as the colour guy.

Oh, most definitely a Don West fan!

I'm guessing his commitments as the General Manager of a minor league (Baseball?) team in Washington state, I think, would rule him out of a full time gig though.

  5. Looking forward to watching this tonight. Was tempted to book a day off and watch it live before deciding I need to stop being so tragic.

I'm genuinely delighted that Don West was on top form. It would have been a bit gutting if he'd ruined his legacy and turned out to be a pale imitation of himself. Josh Mathews is over enough as a heel to do any role he wants, as long as its not a full time commentator.

Genuinely not bothered if they change the company's name from TNA to GFW. Global Force Wrestling is a decent enough title and I really liked the GFW colour scheme as it looked different, WWE Velocity being the sole exception.

You do have to chuckle at how Jeff always manages to land on his feet though! GFW has come to being after all, albeit via the back door.

Not sure how one minute of highlighting the talent they had show up or help produce of a near 4 minute video is "harking". They always celebrate the past at Slammi.

Its all personal taste. I'm more than happy to see them bring back Don West and no doubt some other free agents who used to work for Impact will make appearances at the show, but highlighting some of the WWE's current top names isn't something I would do.

In fairness though, they've done a cracking job of putting over this PPV as actually meaning something. For years, the company has felt it was plodding along from week to week with nothing to build upto.

But it's never a good idea to remind the audience of what they're not seeing, especially when half the people in that video are working for the competition.

I agree wholeheartedly. I could just about live with them being all over the video package when Impact was rebooted, but they've gone now and there's no need to hark back to them.

  8. Interesting. I wonder, with the network and all, how many will opt not to bother with SS Arena? WWE and Tennis doesn't share a similar demographic.

As little knowledge/interest as I have in current day WWE, I could never justify subscribing to anything but the footie channels tbh. I get all the (classic) wrestling I could ever watch from the Network and Impact on free tv.

    * Around 60 episodes of Tursday Night Titans have been added, covering August 85 upto September 86.

Just a few minutes after I cancelled my subscription, I read that. The bastards have got me again.

I can't express enough how much I love TNT.

Also, add me to the long list of 1997 fans. Fascinating to watch back and see the difference between the programming in January to that in December. Almost like a whole different company, morphing from the Gang Warz stuff to the Hart Foundation/Austin programme to Montreal and the fallout.

    It's revisionist WWE history.
Stephanie and Vince loved Mae, she's been turned into a legendary figure by the company and is relevant to their audience.

The WWE have their favourites, but this can often change with the wind too.

You've just reminded me of the mid to late 90's, after falling out with Bruno and Billy Graham and WCW had snapped up Hogan, Savage etc, how WWF TV would have you think that Fred Blassie and Ernie Ladd had been Hulk Hogan level superstars during their era.

Hi, first time poster, long time lurker.

I was at HorrorCon in Sheffield over the weekend and met Elvira. I had to ask her about Wrestlemania 2. This question seemed to totally shock her and made her giggle as she started to reminisce about the event. She did for whatever reason seem convinced it was in 1981 despite me saying otherwise but she did say Jesse Ventura was a great guy, funny, genuine and someone she describes as a sweetheart. She could not compliment anyone else however! She finished off by saying she wanted to track the event down and watch it again now as she had totally forgotten about the experience. Not sure if she will be making the celebrity wing of the HOF anytime soon anyway!

Elvira was one of the best (which doesn't say much I know), celebrity commentators they ever had. She sounded like she at least had an inkling of what was going on, as opposed to "uh oh, uh oh, uh oh" Susan StJames.

4 messages that have been read and ignored should be more than enough. And yes it was mainly having been reading on here for ten years before signing up but it is still disappointing there's not a common courtesy.

I donated last year sometime. I did message about getting paid status, but I'm not bothered really. After all, what I donated is just a small price to pay for the laughs I've had from reading over the years.
