  1. Resi 4 remake was superb. It's nice to have The King back, what a ride! Close to perfect pacing, never lets up, yet never feels like overkill either. Loved nearly every second. 10/10.

Still prefer the original. For reasons that are both unfair: (it's impossible to replicate the feelings the OG gave me at 16/17 and how big a leap forward it was) and fair: I feel less precise in the remake, both in aiming and even getting the contextual melee prompts reliably, the rythm and ammo balance feels off. I'm comparing a game I've mastered over 18 years to one I've played once though, so this part might change in time. Mercenaries is as addictive as ever. I need that Handcannon before I jump into new game plus.

No big spoilers here, mostly just comparisons and what is/isn't in...

    Spoiler

Del Lago was crap and too easy. I didn't even get knocked out the boat once. Salazar and Saddler about par.

Not getting free ammo everytime you upgrade weapon capacity now is a boo. Getting all/most of the money you've invested into a weapon back when you sell it is a big yay. I'm definitely more willing to experiment with other guns now.

No U3 or hell in a cell was disappointing. Hopefully in the Ada dlc. I did miss the sublime ridiculousness of being chased by the Salazar statue too.

If the decision to have no explodey head suplex was out of respect for Musawa then fair play, that's classy. If not, unacceptable.

The new Krauser fights, mine cart bit and the cabin defence were amazing. Much prefer the Island portion in this one.

Hey, that dog is still in!

The (re)introduction of the Regenerators was perfect. I bricked it.

Expanded story was good. Ashley's much less annoying now. I like new Luis too (it's okay, I said the line for him at the cabin).

The formerly rubbish Punisher handgun has been redeemed. I first just stuck with it out of hatred for most of the better handguns not having laser-sight now, but that exclusive upgrade (shooting through 5x enemies) made it super useful by the end.

Am I going to end up buying DLC just for the sake of doing the T2 shotgun swirly reload thing?

    Yes, yes I am.

With no due respect to 5 and Chode Veronica, if Dino Crisis isn't next in line for a remake we riot.

  2. Watch Pisspot's substitutions today and how we instantly got much worse after all of them if you want to see a prime masterclass in mismanagement. We barely look a threat with three attackers, ending the game with one against a Sean Dyche team is pathetic. Mudryk looked good last weekend, what was his reward? Sitting on the bench today because Potter's emotional intelligence said he has to try and keep Pulisic happy too. Maybe next week it'll be Ziyech's turn again? Although I should just be thankful that he's not the first name on the team sheet like he was immediately after his loan move to PSG (hilariously) fell apart solely because Potter was scared of him staying angry at him. "You can't say I'm not fair!", fuck off to an office or something.

Enzo is clearly A1 even amongst this mess. Don't give a shit about the fee, he's going to be one of the best midfielders over the next decade. His long passing game is incredible. So happy we somehow got it done. Being mid-table seems to be a good omen for us getting midfielders, Kante came after we'd just finished 10th!

  3. Resi 4 is my favourite game ever. I've owned it on six different consoles! This remake's in a situation where it can't lose and can't win. I love Resi 4 so much that I even loved cheap knock-offs like Cold Fear, Dark Sector and The Evil Within, of course this will be amazing. But man, I'll miss the campiness of the OG, and (probably) not getting to sing along "HEY! IT'S THAT DOG!", "I see the President has equipped his daughter with balleesteecs too", "no thanks, bro" etc will be a shame.

I'm just going to try and enjoy it for what it is, like the 2 and 3 remakes, a different new take on a classic. It's not like the originals are going anywhere.

the original 4 has aged horribly.

You're small time! Surely you didn't expect some boy scout simulator where you sit around a campfire singing Kumbaya? Then again... maybe you did.

I'm going to need to run through Binary Domain again to set this right!

Update: It's still fire. It just plays like a standard Gears clone, but the fun tone and mental story make it a blast. The hit feedback on the relentless robots puts the ones in Gears 4 to shame. For variety's sake I probably shouldn't have went with Big Bo and Cain on my team 100% of the time they're available again, but how can you not pick a guy whose response to "any last words?" is "tell your momma I loved her!" and a robot that is literally French as fuck? Exactly.

FPS boost has it running like a dream now. I was lucky if it hit 30 for even a few minutes back on the PS3!

it just made me reminisce about the brilliant Sleeping Dogs was. I’d love either a sequel or a similar game.

It still lives rent free in my head too. There's sadly nothing else like it on modern consoles.

Have you ever tried Mad Max? It's one of the few non-Rockstar open worlds since Sleeping Dogs that I didn't get fed up with. Like SD there's a big focus on the crunchy, satisfying melee combat. That, the big daft car battles and the wasteland weather occasionally trying to kill you help it stand out from the usual fare. It's a gem!

If you have the means to play them, the Timesplitters games are right around that ballpark in terms of gameplay and controls and also a bunch of fun. I believe they are available on the Xbox and possibly Playstation stores as backwards compatible downloads.

I was just coming in to shout out these. They were made by a few of the original GoldenEye developers. I just picked up 2 and 3 for about £3 and they're still on sale. Good timing if you're on Xbox, Arch!

  6. It's funny, a couple of years ago I went scrolling through all the 2009 Superstars on the Network looking for that match, I facepalmed and thought "my memory's terrible!" after I hit up google and saw I was only 2 years off on the date. Then I thought "I hope someone's put it out there in good quality" and got met with that video as my first result!

I'll give WWE permission to take it down when they upload it to the Network.

  7. Have fun. I'm jealous! I was lining myself for the 2021 one before the world went mental. Had one of the Wrestling Travel packages in mind, I fell in love with the idea of staying in a fancy hotel downtown and being a short walk from everything at the Staples Centre. SoFi stadium looks amazing too.

Hopefully something completely inane happens between now and then like when WrestleMania 32 - in the space of one opening segment on Raw - went from looking like the dullest show in history to having Shane McMahon fight the Undertaker in a hell in a cell.

I love when they have to think outside the box. Going from 0 to "Shane is back, is as over as The Rock, is facing Undertaker in a cell, oh and Undertaker's career and the future of the company is on the line as well" was beautifully surreal. Much more interesting than whatever they were going to do before all the injuries hit.

  8. Dead Space remake is a 10/10, yet was also a bit of a slog for me to get through due to my own stupid decision to replay the original in December. It's really faithful and I was pretty much doing everything on autopilot. They delivered on everything they set out to improve, the dreaded astroid section is fixed along with all the other spacey stuff, most of the weapons that aren't the plasma cutter aren't trash anymore, the new contact beam and force gun absolutely fuck (still not big on the flamethrower), ditto all the added secondary firemodes that can do some cool shit in tandem, I like setting up a wall of the laser traps, chucking the gravity well thingy in the middle and watching limbs fly! I was a little worried at the added, ugh, "side quests", but it ended up just being a couple of things I'd want to do anyway, one expanding on Nicole's story (and I think that would have been hard to miss otherwise) and one to find a way to open all the doors/lockers in the game. When I come back for a new game+ run in a couple of years I'll be able to fully appreciate this. Don't be a noob and play The Callisto Protocol, Dead Space, Dead Space 2 then (practically) Dead Space again in the space of like three months. It's too much.

Got Atomic Heart downloading. I'm not sure it'll be good, but it'll definitely be interesting! These are the type of releases I love Game Pass for.

I hope there's no weird fan backlash. That would significantly suck the life out of the 'Mania build for me. I wanna see the next most logical thing play out now that the super hot diversion show is out of the way and the thing didn't happen.

70,000 mostly non jaded people happy to go along with the coronation of the only guy they ever planned on making the next big long term champion.

I'm hoping this is just another UKFF phantom backlash like Edge's a couple of years ago. People were swearing blind the returning crowd was going to eviscerate him for not being Daniel Bryan!

His eyes are on the ball and has every right to go for it. It's just unfortunate. Not a red for me Clive.

It's definitely accidental. That means nothing when you could nearly kill someone though. If that is not dangerous play and recklessly endangering an opponent, you may as well abolish that part of the rulebook. You absolutely have to discourage that kind of careless stupidity, it's just through sheer luck Azpi's okay.

  11.  I hope Roman has learned how to say "It's my fucking house now" in French!

They need to stay strong and have Roman win tonight, for Wrestlemania's sake. They're six weeks away from nailing it perfectly for the first time in years. Any title change fuckery will cheapen or outright ruin what should be coming. Mexico North in February isn't the place to end a legendary title run like this. Tonight should be about cruelly crushing some more hearts (like mine in Cardiff).

I'm really excited to see how/if they get around it. And to see it in general. I feel like you could end up with an iconic PPV ending whichever way they go with the result. It's good to see people actually caring.

Robs with X-Pac which I bet was pretty smooth.

Seen this in Glasgow. It was!

Pointless note that I think you'll pointlessly want to know about that show: They must have been in limbo with the company name change at that point and weirdly kept calling it "WWFE" or "WWF:E" all night. It was a really confusing few days until they Got The F Out.

  13. The supposedly inevitable, shoe-in Metroid Prime Trilogy assumed to definitely be coming soon after the announcement of 4 was one the main reasons I got a Switch. In typical Nintendo fashion, it's late, overpriced and a third of the product I wanted, but it's nice to see it all the same! Will get it as soon as I can trade-in for a physical copy (ShopTo have the UK release as down for March 3rd).

Can’t speak for London, but in the midlands I noticed most of the hatred towards Chelsea came from Man Utd and Arsenal fans. Mainly because they broke the monopoly they had on the premier league. They didn’t like that someone else could compete financially with them so moaned about buying the league etc.

They're largely the only two fanbases that remember right and speak the truth about that era. Beyond freak seasons like 98/99, we wouldn't have been competing with them naturally.

It's the fans of all the other clubs terrible memories and/or pure fantasy that piss me off. There's fans of teams relegated in 2003 who'll look you dead in the eye and tell you with a straight face that Abramovich taking over was the moment that Champions League Chelsea unfairly leapfrogged them in the pecking order of English football!

I’m not a religious man, but I’ll be doing a few trips round the rosary for Brock/Gunther at Mania.

I'm long sick of Brock, but this and Brock/Sheamus are pretty high up on my want to see list. Both Sheamus and Gunther deserve to have that high profile a match after their last year.

  16. Do people think that the more they mention Chelsea the more likely it is that the PL/the government/UEFA will take yet another hard look at (after last year) the most studied accounts in the history of football and suddenly find something. Oh, there's the 100+ rule breaches. Oh, there's the long-term, real world financial fraud! Whether you like it or not, Chelseas finances couldn't be more transparent. It's pointless comparing them to City.

Just be grateful that collective, bitter crying has saw a supposedly impartial governing body change their rules on the spot solely to hamper one club again. There's a reason people were having to use words like "loophole" and funnily worded sentences like "They're avoiding breaking FFP rules by *avoiding breaking FFP rules*".  It's because they have nothing real.
