. But there was a time when me and my brother said that whenever AJ vs Fury got made, we’d be there.

The fight is 40mins down the road from me but I didn't even consider getting a ticket either. If someone gifted me a ringside seat i'd snap it up but if its a choice between sitting at home or sitting a long way from the ring surrounded drunk lads on the packet, i'm picking home everytime these days.

There are reports today that Jai Opetaia v Deontay Wilder is in negotiations.

This has now been confirmed…

I agree for the most part but Opetaia isn't hard to hit and Deontay can still punch. Can't see it lasting long either way.

Yes definitely not disputing Wilders power. I agree its going to be a stoppage either way.

Did any other top fighter go over the cliff as fast as Wilder? The main is shot to bits. That third Tyson Fury fight ruined him.

I like the Wilder/Opetaia fight. It's about time Opetaia was involved in a big fight since he faced Briedis first time around back in 2022. I rate him as a fighter, but he has been treading water for years, way too much talk about him unifying at Cruiserweight and moving up to clean out the Heavyweight division like Usyk did without anything happening. I've never been convinced he would as a number of of guys I can see him struggling with, but good he is making the move now and see what happens.

Yeah I was quite big on Opetaia when he first started to make a name for himself but his career hasn't had the momentum to keep me interested, still enjoy watching him fight though.

Wilder's game in the pros has almost exclusively been built around his right hand and his ability to find a home for it as fights progressed. It's his one trick, but it was a bloody good one in his prime.

He also had a lot of heart, but he was always relatively week on the back foot and in the clinch.

Since the Parker fight his one trick hasn't been effective. Whether that's due to age, inactivity, the beatings he took from Fury, or in Parker's case a clever gameplan, is debatable. It's probably all of the above.

Still, him and Opetaia is an interesting fight even in 2026.
