Eliteserien (not-so Tippeligaen)

Bit of swagger in your victory lap, I see. Good job I'm not the mood to deduct points for the sheer cheek of it. Turns out Tippeligaen was only ever a sponsor's name. Who knew?

Anyway, let's put everyone else out of their misery: congrats on winning the 2023-24 FPL title! It's long overdue for a Predictions League stalwart such as yourself. Your main challengers swapped places with each other right at the death so you were able to coast to victory without needing a spectacular final round.

Unusually, joint top scorers Stinky (who picked just in time) and ultimo, and equal worst performers MVP RULZ (definitely not the kind of climax he needed) and Tilde, found different routes to the same number of points which would be much less likely a standard 10-match round.

The results went into the opening post on Sunday night, and I've just edited it for the last time – Bacon will be relieved to hear – with the final ordinary table update of the season. The only other thing to note about that is that the 17-point gap at the foot of the standings between myself and Spitfire Nonce stayed the same.

Wins for Celtic men, Rangers and Barça women, plus Leverkusen, PSG and Galatasaray all proved fruitful, whereas reverses for Man City, Leeds, Sporting Lisbon, Brøndby, Anderlecht, Brann Bergen and Chicago Red Stars caught most people out. A stalemate in the Bruges derby, a score draw in Washington and a home loss for St Gallen produced a mixed bag of guesses.

I'll be back with the embedded proper final form of the table (including seph) by the end of the week, also featuring a rough idea of when the sign-up and main threads for next season will be up.

Cheers guys. Let's get this over with while it's still June, especially as someone just started the Euro 2024 thread! Here's the definitive version of the table:

Some extraordinary stats there – congrats to @RoryFice again, but you really can make a strong argument that he was might lucky that ultimo sometimes picked late or not at all. The latter's name and that of Vegeta both appear twice on the bottom left, and yet Rory's actually crops up on the 'hall of shame' side of the standings. Bent Wookie will definitely be regretting his missed rounds too.

Vegeta very nearly didn't finish in the top half, with a relative lack of bonus points his main issue. Rory, on the other hand, managed 69 bonuses and an average of 8.69 (double nice).

Thanks to all for playing anyhow. Of course seph will be welcomed back if he wants to play again next season. Speaking of which, the sign-up thread for the 2024-25 [sheesh, where does the time go? we're so old] campaign should go live in the second half of July unless someone wants to gazump me, in which case I'm willing to share any info/advice with them which they're then free to ignore.

If, as seems likely, it is up to me to organise this again, then the main thread will be started on the evening of Wednesday the 7th of August. Am planning a possible trip away in November but should hopefully be able to fit Predictions League updates around that. Week 1 will be a mish-mash picking up where we left off: with a Manchester derby at Wembley plus random games from the Championship, Scotland and some less glamorous European leagues.

Then in Week 2 things get less awkward with a full set of EPL matches plus one or two of the Big Four leagues on the continent starting... and we finally get our first table update in the round-up too. In the meantime, enjoy the men's Champions League final, the Euros, those weird Olympic group stage fixtures that get played before the Opening Ceremony, and Welsh clubs continuing the annual tradition of getting knocked out in UEFA competitions' preliminary rounds against the Dog & Duckski.

Or, you know, just take a break from footie for a couple of month, whichever suits you best. Hope to see as many of you as possible next season.
