Cruz vs Dillashaw is a different thing though. The anticipation for that would be different to my anticipation for say Lawler vs Condit where you can see it being a FOTY candidate. With Cruz vs Dillashaw I wouldn't be expecting a barnburner anyway. It'd just be cool to see how it would play out and what answers they'd come up with for each other's style.

Lawler vs Condit will be like going to watch an awesome action film. Cruz vs Dillashaw would be more like watching a Federer vs Nadal tennis match. You'll probably rewatch the action film more than once and still get swept up in it. Whereas you'll probably only watch the tennis match once. But the tactics and skill involved that one time you watch it will have you on the edge of your seat.

It's two completely different flavours of MMA. I'm not going to lie I'm more into action films than tennis. But I don't mind a bit of tennis if it's the top guys.

Or Ana Ivanovic

First malfunction of Reebok gear (in use) occurred on this show, Elizabeth Phillips suffered a nip-slip in her fight with Jessamyn Duke. Was bound to happen sooner or later.

I love the way this got zero response. Imagine if it was Miesha Tate who slipped nip? Different story.

Anyway.

Next Fight Night is August 8th in Nashville;

Not crazy about this one. Couple of decent fights but not one fight that really grabs me, to be honest.

Glover vs OSP is a good fight. Not going to lie and say I'm giddy with excitement but it should be entertaining for however long it lasts. I just don't know what it is about OSP but I just never find myself really looking forward to his fights. It's not like he's a boring fighter. It's not sour grapes because he knocked out Shogun in seconds either because I was indifferent to him before that as well. And no it's not because he's black. I'm not racist. Brother. He just lacks something that makes me want to see him fight. Can't put my finger on it.

Big fan of Glover though. Exciting fighter to watch and seems like one of the nicest people in the sport away from the cage. He's like a rabid pitbull in the cage and a big dopey St Bernard out of it. Impossible to dislike Glover.

He badly needs a win here though. After coming into the UFC with a shitload of hype, he got his title shot and then it all went tits up. He's coming into this fight off back-to-back losses now to Jon Jones and Phil Davis. I can't see them sacking him even if he loses a third fight on the bounce because he's fun to watch and Dana loves him due to his links to Chuck Liddell. But it's never good, obviously, losing three fights in a row.

Bit of a weird bit of matchmaking actually when you think of it like that. Glover is coming off two losses, OSP is coming off two first round KO wins, including the biggest win of his career against Shogun. Bit odd. But that's the light heavyweight division in 2015.

Strangely enough this could actually wind up being a number one contenders fight. I'd think the winner of October's Rashad Evans vs Ryan Bader fight would be the frontrunner but it may be a case of whoever wins most impressively out of Evans/Bader and Teixeira/OSP gets the shot at whoever holds the gold once Cormier vs Gustafsson is over.

Johnson vs Dariush is a fight I really like the sound of. Michael Johnson is on fire right now. He's never looked better and is coming off a four fight win streak. Over good names too - Barboza, Guillard, Tibau and Lauzon. His striking has come on big time at the Blackzilians camp and he's one of those guys like Tony Ferguson where everything seems to be clicking into place right now.

Dariush is quite underappreciated, I reckon. He's also coming into this one off a four fight win streak. He beat Tony Martin which mightn't be anything special. But then he rattled off three wins in a row over Carlos Diego Ferreira (who was previously unbeaten), Daron Cruickshank (who he submitted) and in his last fight he took a decision in a fun fight against Jim Miller, which was undoubtedly his biggest win to date. He's really, really good. Excellent grappler (gave Jim Miller fits) not the most refined striker but he's quite effective and is training under Rafael Cordeiro so he's only going to improve.

This is the fight I'm most into on the whole card actually.

Below that my interest in this show falls off a fucking cliff. There's some stuff to like but it's pretty thin.

* Always love to watch Sam Alvey fight. Brunson as his opponent doesn't interest me much though. Brunson is one of those guys who's been around long enough that I should remember something about him but he's kind of one of those white noise prelimers to me. I forget what he even looks like if I'm being honest. I'll tune in for the constantly happy goofball Sam Alvey though.

* Camozzi vs Watson will likely be a good little scrap.

* Uriah Hall has been a bit of a flop since TUF. He's got undeniable natural talent but it doesn't really translate to his fights very much, for whatever reason. He gets bummed because of that awesome spinning back kick KO on TUF but he can't live off that forever. The truth is he hasn't really delivered in the UFC so far. Mixed results and his fights aren't even that enjoyable to watch. I'm sure the Rafael Natal fight actually put me to sleep. And that was supposed to be some grudge match.

* McMann vs Nunes might be OK, I suppose. McMann isn't very exciting to watch but Nunes' aggression might keep it alive.

Ah, it's alright I guess. Might be a pleasant surprise. Can't really complain anyway, this summer's been incredible with seemingly every card since UFC 187 having at least one killer fight. And of course, UFC 189. At the bare minimum I think the top two fights on this will be at least 'good', maybe better.

Strikes me that "Johnson" is becoming the American equivalent of "Silva" in the UFC.

Demetrious Johnson

Anthony Johnson

Michael Johnson

Timothy Johnson

There must be more I've missed out.

Looks badass - check

Cool name - check

So far, so good record - check

Probably a cool accent

I like him already. Then again I thought the same with Papy Abedi and he didn't amount to much in the UFC. Hope he turns out good and beats Uriah Hall though. I'm kind of done waiting for Hall to live up to his potential/hype.

So, any reason why Renan Barao was allowed to have a 'TNT' sponsor logo sticker on his Reebok shorts?

Could be as they are 1 of the main Sponsors in Brazil [thier logo was in the Middle of the Octagon Last Show in Brazil]

I think Rory had Monster on his shorts during his fight vs Mcdonald. I'm guessing there's flexibility if the UFC are sponsored by the company which makes it even more ridiculous why a fighter can't have a couple of their own sponsors on their shorts.

Rory did have that on his shorts [similarly placed to Barao's] & Sponsor issue could be down to control by UFC or as an clause where only UFC Sponsors allowed on Fighters Fight Kit [all theory]

I'm guessing these fighters are also paid too as if they weren't they would all appear on the shorts/jerseys. So it will be a situation where the likes of Pettis, Rousey, Mcgregor etc are sponsored by Reebok, UFC's official sponsors could sponsor individual fighters.

Did anyone watch this?

I'll be honest, I completely forgot it was even happening. I got up today, looked in the Sky planner and there it was! I've never just completely forgot about a UFC show before.

Glover vs OSP was a good fight. Really glad Glover won. Can see them doing Glover vs Shogun now.

Amanda Nunes made a real statement. She looked impressive. Just battered McMann. She won't beat Ronda but she's at least got something to threaten with. She's a big bantamweight, she's got accurate and powerful striking and she's got solid grappling.

Dustin Ortiz looked great. I think he's been kind of overlooked for a while now but he's a bit of a darkhorse at flyweight.

Jared Rosholt vs that Barry Darsow lookalike was shit. I hate Jared Rosholt. Boring lump.
