Doom lost the belts to the Freebirds at the WrestleWar PPV on the 24th Feb 91. However 6 days before this happened at a tv taping the Steiners beat the Freebirds for the belts in a match that would air a few weeks later on TV.

There were some tapings in 1993 as well that featured plenty of guys walking around with titles they hadn't won yet. The Blonds, Horsemen and Nastys all wrestled matches where they came to the ring with the tag belts, Rick Rude wore the Big Gold Belt even though Flair was still the NWA champion, and Sid Vicious came down with the WcW belt around his waist, which of course he never won due to his firing for running with scissors.

My favourite title change is in WCW for the Tag Team Title.

This possibly makes the Freebirds the shortest reigning champions ever at minus 6 days

Didn't Mick Foley tell a similar story in his 1st book that he and Kevin Sullivan were defending the tag titles before they even won them due to the shows been done on pre tape and was wasn't due to air until after the PPV.

IIRC, the story is that he overheard a team doing an interview about beating Cactus & Sullivan for the tag titles before he'd even been told they were going to win them!

I think he gives it as one of the reasons he decided to leave WCW, as he worked out that this run they were getting would only be a couple of weeks long at most due to the taping schedule, and saw it as a lack of faith?

Correct mostly, except he overheard the interview when he held the belts. In the book he was offended that even if his tag reign was phenomenal, he was predestined to lose the belts.

It's a bit laughable really, because else where in the book he declares the importance of long term booking, but the minute he dosen't benefit from said long term plan, it's a bad thing.
