So, the day after the game everyone is going on about how Spain destroyed England with passing and their technique etc, yet we actually got a draw?

Spain can play all the fancy football they want, fact is they couldnt beat England, and before anyone mentions Wellbeck was offside, which he was, Spains goal was also a clear handball, so that goal shouldnt of stood either.

The Spain hyberbole is getting a bit out of control, whats the point of fancy football if you don't win, England are being criticised for how we played, but we didnt get beat by the supposed favourties, so it didnt work out that bad.

If they'd scored that goal against zonal marking (which actually would have been impossible)

Impossible for the guy making the run into the box to out jump the guy standing still waiting for him?

There wouldn't have been a discussion about it. No-one hates zonal marking, they just hate Rafa. Poor chap.

Because this is a silly U21s tournament that is not a grand indicator of senior international football. The Spain hyperbole isn't out of control because they ARE winning everything - they just won the World Cup, the European championships and Barcelona are in a different echelon to any other club team in the world. Some of these players will bleed into the senior squad in time, but with the likes of Casillas, Pique, Albiol, Ramos, Iniesta, Alonso, Busquets, Villa, Pedro and Llorente going anywhere in a hurry, it's safe to say Spain can remain dominant for a while yet.

Yeah I agree with that bit, but what im saying is England are being criticised, at u21 level of course, for being inferior to Spain because of how great Spains passing and technique was last night, but they still didnt beat England, so there not doing too good.

Some of these players will be in the main England squad soon, as will there counterparts last night, im not saying England are as good as Spain, or could even beat Spain, but I think criticising how England played last night when compared with Spain is ludicrous when we didnt lose. Our style of football obviously was good enough to stop Spain winning, so maybe it's not all doom and gloom.

Because that's how zonal marking works. Any guy making a run like that wouldn't get there, against zonal marking done well.

Mancienne was blocked off.

So how does that excuse the second header when everyone just stood about while someone ghosted in and got the header off. There was at least two guys who could have done something to prevent that, but were too busy doing their statue impressions while staring at the ball thinking "huh?". It was a terrible goal to concede.

And the obvious flaw in zonal marking is that a guy running into the box will always out-jump the guy who's marking his zone.

Of course all the criticism is fucking nonsense. If you have the right delivery and an attacker who's hungrier than the defender, you'll score whether the marking is man or zonal. Spain's blocking was very smart and they got away with it because the ref was a dunce.

The obvious answer, in this case, is that it helps the players develop and get used to the incredibly successful style expected of them at national level, making it much easier for them to make the step up.

Anyone watch last night? I thought we were garbage. Just ridiculous choices of passing time and again meant we never built any momentum. The number of times Bertrand and Henderson tried long passes when there was an easy ball on was ridiculous. Chris Smalling looked abysmal coming out of defence too. Jones was very impressive though. Made some great runs into midfield. Was very impressed with his maturity in his post match interview too. No bullshit and no hiding.

Team v Czech: Fielding, Walker Bertrand Smalling Jones, Henderson Muamba Cleverley, Sinclair Sturridge Welbeck

Well at least Pearce thought Mancienne was pants, Albrighton must be gutted.
