METAL ON METAL
^ I think you're FAR overestimating how much of an effect PED's had in that fight. Â Also, you say "he knows what he'll try & do this time round" well its one thing to know what someone is going to do, its completely another thing to be able to stop it. Silva's big weakness is his wrestling defense and always has been, for a striker vs. a wrestler - 90 times out of a 100 the takedown is going to happen, especially if said wrestler is someone of Sonnen's standard. Paid Members Egg Shen Posted December 15, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted December 15, 2011 Im officially the biggest American patriot there is now. These other primitive countries are all about money, mafia and corrupt law enforcement. Regardless what you believe I never touched a female in theses events that occurred and my girlfriend was there from start to finish to vouch. Hitting Thai women was an excuse for them to demonize me and get some baht out of me. You all don't understand with my name, people will use it against me. I acted like an idiot on a reality show for publicity so they are using that against me. Im sorry and I care about people more than you thank and I appreciate all the support from the intelligent people that understand that these primitive countries are trying to kill me ( Literally ) . I need help BAD! please call the US Embassy in my regards. Thank you very much everyone. Apparently in the news story I fled the scene in the hospital before the police got there. It's obvious by this picture that the police were already there. It wasn't until hours later my girlfriends and my phone were flooded with phone calls saying that the Thai mafia were headed to the hospital to kill me did we leave. We understood that it is a very corrupt place so we had to flee and get in contact with the US Embassy. Funny how cropping a photo changes the whole story. Paid Members Dead Mike Posted December 15, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted December 15, 2011 If the PED's aren't effective, or at least barely effective why risk your reputation & job taking them in the biggest fight of your career?
David
You were picking Chael by stoppage a little while back. Yeah, I'm talking about if the fight takes place in Brazil. If that happens I don't think Sonnen has a chance. Couple the hassle he'll undoubtedly get there with the flight and time difference. Â If it takes place in the US though, I'm still going for Sonnen via decision.
METAL ON METAL
Thought I'd put this in here rather than the Strikeforce thread due to it pertaining to UFC aswell: Â New deal agreed between Strikeforce & Showtime with up to 8 events next year. Â After the heavyweight GP final, the winner will fight once more in Strikeforce and then the heavyweight division will be no more in SF. With all/most HW's moving to UFC. Reason given was lack of depth in SF. Â More focus will be put upon the lighter divisions & the female divisions. Â No more Challengers shows. Â Coker still in charge but Dana overseeing things. Â Cross-promotion between UFC & SF fighters "hasn't been ruled out". Â Zuffa will aim to improve all areas of the production.

Absolutely a good thing. With the worldwide growth of MMA if they binned Strikeforce it would leave a gap in the market for someone else, why not Zuffa own the whole shebang? Plus, more shows for us
Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted December 15, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted December 15, 2011 Yeah I'm glad Strikeforce is sticking around. It's another place for fighters to go and I'm glad it's gonna be kept alive in some way. The lighter weights and women's divisions throw up a lot of exciting fights so I can see Strikeforce becoming a lot like the WEC was for fight quality even though they lack the big names the UFC has. Â I am glad they're gonna eventually bring all the heavyweights into the UFC though. SF doesn't have enough guys to keep that division interesting now, especially with the loss of Overeem, Fedor, Werdum recently. Â There's really only a handful left and aside from having the likes of Barnett, Bigfoot, Cormier in the UFC I'm just as excited at the prospect of guys like Lavar Johnson, Chad Griggs etc on the undercards mixing it up with the Beltran's, Barry's etc. It will add some real depth to what used to be the worst division in MMA. jimufctna24
It is forgotten that Sonnen was sick when he fought Silva the first time. Remember the line "I am unmotivated, underhyped, under the weather and still going to kick this guys ass" Â No doubt that Silva having a busted rib hurt his performance, but Sonnen was hardly 100% even with performance enhancers. John Galt
Also, the PEDs were for a preexisting condition. He wasn't exactly juicing like Drago, no matter what Ed Soares wants you to believe.
Paid Members Deaq Posted December 16, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted December 16, 2011 Also, the PEDs were for a preexisting condition. He wasn't exactly juicing like Drago, no matter what Ed Soares wants you to believe. Â No that's what he tried to use as his defense and failed. It was a last ditch effort to get away with using the PED's. Problem is Sonnen has never changed his style and has been caught by loads of guys due to his over aggression and lack of being cautious in certain positions, until he can put a guy down and do a GSP he will always lose to guys who can work off his back. The amount of times he has lost the same way and is still yet to fix that really big hole in his game. Watch him beat Anderson Silva and then lose to somebody like Demian Maia everytime. Personally I see Mark Munoz as a better wrestler and that Sonnen wont get past him.
Paid Members Dead Mike Posted December 16, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted December 16, 2011 I take nothing away from Sonnen's wrestling, he's exceptional but as I posted earlier, the only way he can beat Silva is to hold him down for 5 rounds, the way he's won all his UFC fights (excluding Stann). He couldn't do it last time & there's absolutely nothing to suggest he'll be able to do it again. I think he'll get past Munoz by doing exactly the same thing, I'm very interested to see how Munoz's wrestling fares against Sonnen's as if they essentially cancel one another out, either by stuffing the shot or being able to get back up then the fights Munoz's as I believe he has the better (and stronger) striking.
