Paid Members Egg Shen Posted August 14, 2014 Author Paid Members Posted August 14, 2014 just freed up my Saturday evening so it's all about Cage Warriors for me: main card lines up like this: Joseph Duffy vs. Damien Lapilus Jake Bostwick vs. Philip Mulpeter Paul Redmond vs. Alexis Savvidis Andrew Fisher vs. Artem Lobov Lloyd Clarkson vs. Karl Moore Paul Marin vs. Andy Young obviously the main draw is the return of Joe Duffy who i have no doubt is going to the UFC if he wins on Saturday, i stuck it in the other thread but there's a little doc. by Cage Warriors documenting the Duffy/McGregor fight and the paths both men have taken since their fight, it's well worth a look: here's a promo for the event: coming off the Irish UFC show this show really has a bit of a buzz around it, it's live on Setanta Sports/Premier Sports on Saturday evening. Paid Members Egg Shen Posted August 18, 2014 Author Paid Members Posted August 18, 2014 anyone catch Cage Warriors? very good show, i'll keep it spoiler free cause the show's being shown (in highlighted form i think) on Channel 4 this week (Wednesday 12.55am)...set your planners. Quote
Paid Members Egg Shen Posted August 21, 2014 Author Paid Members Posted August 21, 2014 continue's to feel like im still talking to myself on here these days given the fact that people cant really keep up with what the UFC are doing let alone following the other promotions doing their thing. Anyways, there's RFA, Titan FC and Cage Warriors shows this weekend...i'll be checking out the latter two (along with one or two things on the RFA show). Cage Warriors has a show in Jordan tomorrow night, always nice to actually watch fights on TV at a decent time on a Friday/Saturday evening so i'll continue to follow the promotion... main card: Jack Hermansson vs. Deyan Topalski (middleweight title) Dave Hill vs. Martin Svensson Jack Mason vs. Jonatan Westin Pannie Kianzad vs. Megan van Houtum Arnold Allen vs. Gaetano Pirello Laura Howarth vs. Lina Akhtar Lansberg Titan FC also goes off tomorrow night. main card: Mike Ricci vs. George Sotiropoulos Kurt Holobaugh vs. Lloyd Woodard (featherweight title eliminator) Bristol Marunde vs. Micah Miller Mike Bronzoulis vs. Keith Johnson Brian Davidson vs. Kevin Smith Titan is basically priding itself these days on being a UFC/Bellator cast-off type promotion, offering dude's a platform to springboard back into the UFC, i have no problem with that because it leads to some interesting fights and in fairness they aint mismatching these guys. The promotion's also done a great job or putting a good little card here because there's been tons of changes (for example Magalhaes/Jacoby is now off even though its on the poster). Ricci/Sotiropplous is an excellent main event, props to George for coming off a 4 fight losing streak and taking such a tough fight. If Ricci wins i expect to see him back in the UFC by the end of the year. RFA happens the same night too, i'll likely get a hold of it and check out the top 2 fights Dakota Cochrane vs. Christos Giagos (inaugural RFA lightweight title) Mark Dickman vs. Justin Lawrence (vacant RFA featherweight title) Darrick Minner vs. Luke Sanders Isaac Appel vs. Francisco France Jarrod L'Heureux vs. Jordan Larson Bruno Frazatto vs. Cory Galloway Justin Lawrence!! i forgot he even existed...guess it's a sign of the times when a prospect like Lawrence just disappears and you don't even realise it happened. He was one of the more talked about prospects in the sport at one point. MMA all fucking weekend... Quote
Paid Members Egg Shen Posted August 27, 2014 Author Paid Members Posted August 27, 2014 anyone catch the Mirko Crocop/Satoshi Ishii fight over in the Inoki Promotion in Japan? what a frustrating experience that was. Ishii scored a takedown from a caught kick early in round 1 and spent the majority of the round caught in Crocop's guard, a sharp elbow from the bottom cut Ishii in the hairline and the ref immediately stopped the action to check the cut, then started the fight in the same position, a minute later he stopped the fight again to check the cut, then started them standing...round 2 starts and they tentively throw strikes, then the ref stops it AGAIN to check the cut (and whipe the blood), a minute passes, it happens again! the ref waves it off and Crocop takes the Inoki Heavyweight strap via doctor stoppage. that's about the extent of the bleeding, it was running down between Ishii's eyes but it never seemed like it was harming his vision. I thought this thing was meant to be a fight? very disappointing. Quote
Noah Southworth Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 It was a very peculiar stoppage because it wasn't a bad cut, and you'd think they'd be giving their golden boy every chance they can. Ishii is a guy I'd like to see in the UFC because his high level of Judo and his decent Jiu-Jitsu, but that's likely never going to happen with Inoki needing him to prop up the IGF. Quote
Paid Members Egg Shen Posted August 27, 2014 Author Paid Members Posted August 27, 2014 Ishii did sign with the UFC at one point, it fell through though. I imagine Ishii's making a good money headlining cards over there now though against veterans. He's still only 27 so there's time but i get the feeling he's been taking care of over there. a rematch with Crocop is next surely? Quote
Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted August 27, 2014 Paid Members Posted August 27, 2014 Yeah I remember the Ishii-UFC stuff. He came to America and the UFC made quite a fuss of him if I'm remembering right. Wasn't he training with Randy Couture? Japanese promoters haven't really done him any favours either. It's not as bad as what they've done to some guys but giving him Hidehiko Yoshido in his MMA debut was a bit much. I know Yoshida was on the way out by then and I get why they booked it with the old Olympian vs Olympian thing, but still. Then a few fights later they feed him to Fedor. Again, Fedor was on the way out but it's still Fedor. I suppose it was worth the gamble, if Ishii had won it'd have been great for him. Still, not a bad record. I'd still like to see him in the UFC at some point. I caught the Cro Cop fight last night. So frustrating. It was like pulling teeth. I always tune in to watch Mirko but he's hard to watch in MMA these days for me, just a shell of what he was. There's going to have to be a rematch surely. Quote
Paid Members Egg Shen Posted August 27, 2014 Author Paid Members Posted August 27, 2014 Mirko's still pretty sharp with his hands and he did a good job of completely stifling Ishii's offence from his guard but he's definitely not what he was...im like you though wand. if Mirko's fighting im tuning in. Quote
Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted August 27, 2014 Paid Members Posted August 27, 2014 Yeah, I actually haven't minded watching him in kickboxing funnily enough. Even though his chances of getting decked are higher, he looks a bit more comfortable, although still nowhere near his peak obviously. But MMA, I just think he can't really keep up anymore. I think it'd be cool if the UFC ever go to Croatia, maybe they could bring in Cro Cop for a one time fight against someone they aren't trying to build and who he could compete with. Say Cro Cop vs Big Nog 2 or Arlovski or something. And maybe he could retire on that. Quote
Noah Southworth Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 Give him Sylvia just to shut Sylvia up. Quote
Paid Members Egg Shen Posted August 27, 2014 Author Paid Members Posted August 27, 2014 Sylvia's still hoping for the Super Heavyweight Division, i dont think he could ever get back down to 265. Quote
Paid Members Egg Shen Posted August 28, 2014 Author Paid Members Posted August 28, 2014 (edited) One FC continues to do well but they tend to put on cards that fly over my head because im unfamiliar with a lot of the guys on the roster, that's not the case this weekend, they're rolling out some of their big guns (3 title fights) and have got some guys that fans of the US promotions will be familiar with, check it: it's live on Premier Sports at 4.30 tomorrow afternoon...handy fucking channel that. Paid Members Egg Shen Posted August 28, 2014 Author Paid Members Posted August 28, 2014 there's no mention of it being free-to-air on the website but you never know? try tweeting/facebook'ing em? Quote
Noah Southworth Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Anyone else watch the ONE FC show? There were definitely...talking points. Quote
