Paid Members Egg Shen Posted December 30, 2013 Author Paid Members Posted December 30, 2013 Aoki is a nasty man. Which year did they do Dream vs. K-1? (without me looking it up), that thing was insane. The MMA fighters lit up near enough all the K-1 guys that night in K-1 rules fights, it was crazy. Quote
Paid Members Egg Shen Posted January 5, 2014 Author Paid Members Posted January 5, 2014 did anyone catch the Inoki show after? a good rip never surfaced online so i ended up reading spoilers, no real surprises in there but Phil De Fries got a good win over Brett Rogers (who's fallen spectacularly in recent years). Minowaman's KO of the pro wrestler had some added foot stompage as well, which was nice... Quote
Paid Members Egg Shen Posted January 18, 2014 Author Paid Members Posted January 18, 2014 World Series of Fighting on tonight, no UFC so get on it. Quality looking 5 fight card including Anthony Johnson/Mike Kyle which will surely end via KO...Justin Gaethje on there too getting s crack at the new 155 belt, arguably the best newcomer (outside of the UFC) in 2013. (sorry for the lack of full card posting but in stuck on me phone). Do it!! Quote
Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted January 18, 2014 Paid Members Posted January 18, 2014 (edited) Here's the full card; MAIN CARD Justin Gaethje vs Richard Patishnock - Inaugural Lightweight Title Anthony Johnson vs Mike Kyle Jessica Aguilar vs Alida Gray - Inaugural Womens Strawweight Title Tyson Nam vs Cody Bollinger Jorge Patino vs Luis Palomino PRELIMS Tyler Stinson vs Valdir Araujo Derrick Mehmen vs Scott Barrett Alexis Vila vs Sidemar Honorio Freddy Assuncao vs Brenson Hansen Jose Caceres vs Anderson Melo This completely went under my radar to be honest. Looks pretty good though. I love the Rumble vs Kyle fight. Two big vicious KO machines. I read that this is Rumble's last fight on his WSOF contract as well. So he's a free agent from tomorrow. Nam-Bollinger should be good as well actually. I'll give this show a whirl. Edited January 18, 2014 by wandshogun09 Quote
Paid Members Egg Shen Posted January 18, 2014 Author Paid Members Posted January 18, 2014 yeh its good stuff, even the prelims should be worth a look. interested to see Macaco fight again too, he's been active but i genuinely aint seen him fight in years. Quote
Paid Members Egg Shen Posted January 20, 2014 Author Paid Members Posted January 20, 2014 Well, fighters wern't in the mood to hang around at WSOF 8, 5 fights on the main card, 4 great finishes, lots of fun to watch. * I said it above but Justin Gaethje really is one of the most exciting new fighters in the sport, the guy just puts his foot to the floor and goes for it...the title fight with late replacement Patinshnock was a bit of a rush job and it only lasted a minute, but what a minute. Both guys knew there was a title on the line and they went for it. Crazy little fight. I'm down for Gaethje/JZ II. ^ that's the opening ten seconds of the fight! * Anthony Johnson laid Mike Kyle out cold. Given the camp Johnson's in and with how good he's looked since going up in weight i can't see him re-signing with the WSOF, there's surely a title shot there for him next time around and they may use that for incentive, but Rumble needs to be back in the UFC, and im pretty sure he's gonna try pushing for that. Still, wherever he ends up, if Rumble's fighting, im watching. * The female fight seemed a bit of a mismatch, but i guess it went as scripted as Jessica Aguilar picked up the WSOF 115lb belt. Fitting considering Aguilar is the no. 1 ranked fighter in the division, she didn't fuck around. Nice to see Danny Trejo get on the sleaze with her straight after too, good work Machete. * The other highlight of the show was the opener between Patino & Palomino. Wild 2 rounder. What i love about a fighter like Macaco is, even though he seemed outgunned standing, when he couldn't score a takedown he didn't shy away or give in, he just bit down on his gumshield and threw caution to the wind, Palomino's power and creative striking finally got to him though and he scored a brutal KO against the cage. Excellent little fight, track it down if you get chance...actually earlier i called for Gaethje/JZ II (which is what i think they will do), Gaethje/Palomino would just be insane. * Only real dampener of the night was a 3 right glorified sparring match between Bollinger/Nam, it wasn't bad but neither guy really pushed the pace and it just seemed to dwindle along without there ever really being a sense that something was going to happen. Tyson Nam's bubble has burst. Good show though...WSOF need to drop the Rattle the Cage presentation though, it's fucking horrible. Quote
Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted January 20, 2014 Paid Members Posted January 20, 2014 (edited) I only caught the top 3 fights. Took me less than 10 minutes! They weren't hanging about were they? Gaethje had kind of gone under my radar apart from the JZ fight. He looks great though. Rumble has to be UFC bound surely. The only knock on him was that he kept missing weight. Dana always seemed to like him apart from that. And now he's fighting at a realistic weight that's no longer a problem. Plus he's 6-0 since the UFC cut him. And he's looking awesome. I'd be very surprised if his next fight isn't in the UFC. Aguilar fight was a mismatch yeah. The problem is they've signed Aguilar but then Zuffa announced their strawweight division and signed nearly all the top 115lbers, so it's kind of left her with no-one good to fight. I'm sure she signed with WSOF just before the UFC announcement. I bet she was gutted. If she'd have waited just a couple more weeks she'd almost certainly have been called up for the UFC. Danny Trejo might be barking up the wrong tree with Aguilar though. I'm pretty sure she is a lesbian. EDIT - she's bi. He might have a shot after all Edited January 20, 2014 by wandshogun09 Quote
Paid Members Egg Shen Posted January 20, 2014 Author Paid Members Posted January 20, 2014 go on my son! Danny Trejo looked like he was loving it at the fights. wand. go back and watch Gaethje's other two WSOF fights, the guys a freakin' killer, he damn near killed Dan Lauzon last time out. It looks like the next fight for him will be Nick Newell, i imagine that will stir up some interest. Ive tweeted that i wanna see the Palomino fight though, just because i loves me a war Quote
weevil Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 So, Bellator's back, starting this Friday. Apparently it airs on Viva in the UK on Saturday. It looks like a good run of main events, Rampage this week, a title match almost every week after that. Quote
Paid Members Egg Shen Posted February 25, 2014 Author Paid Members Posted February 25, 2014 yeh i mentioned in the Fight Night thread but im actually more interested in this weekend's Bellator and Titan FC (which is relaunching) than i am the UFC. It's a great weekend of fights, quality boxing on too. Jorge Gurgel vs. Mike Ricci Michael Kuiper vs. Matthew Riddle Anthony Gutierrez vs. Lee Sandmeier Bill Friday vs. Pedro Nobre Kalvin Hackney vs. Gleristone Santos Kurt Holobaugh vs. Eric Marriott Kevin Croom vs. Bryan Goldsby Main Card (on Spike TV) Quinton Jackson (33-11) vs. Christian M Quote
bono Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 The bellator show is listed on the viva channel 10pm Saturday night Quote
cleslie92 Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 There's also a good Cage Warriors card on Saturday, with John Maguire vs Saul Rogers and Benny Alloway vs Jack Mason. Add in the Singapore card and there's a load of MMA this weekend, even if it's not all absolutely top quality. Quote
Paid Members Egg Shen Posted February 28, 2014 Author Paid Members Posted February 28, 2014 OOOOOOOOOHHHHHHH!!!!! little side note about Bellator as well, tonight the fighters will be wearing new style Everlast gloves designed to protect fighters hands better from injury, be interested to see how that pans out. Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted February 28, 2014 Paid Members Posted February 28, 2014 I'll be watching this Bellator show. I'm really hoping Rampage and Mo pick up impressive wins tonight to set up them finally fighting. I'm actually not overly confident it'll end up happening though. Bellator tournaments have always seem to have at least one upset that fucks plans up, and I wouldn't be shocked if either Rampage or Mo drop a bollock tonight. I've got a bad feeling Mo might lose actually, it's really a must win fight for him and Zayats is decent from what I've seen. Still, if Rampage and Mo both win it's got to be on the Alvarez vs Chandler 3 PPV, right? That's surely the plan. I think that's why they've held off on announcing a date for the PPV, because they want to see how the fights play out tonight. Alvarez vs Chandler 3, Rampage vs Mo, plus maybe an undercard with a Curran, Pitbull or whoever sprinkled throughout would be pretty good. Unlikely to do too well on PPV but as a show it'd be pretty sweet. Quote
Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted March 1, 2014 Paid Members Posted March 1, 2014 SPOILERS, obvs Rampage vs Mo then. The Rampage post-fight stuff was pretty cringey, I thought. The taunting M'Pumbu after the KO, the screamy interview where he came off as a bit of a parody of the glory days version of himself, then the Mo pull-apart. I am kind of interested in them fighting just because it's been building so long, but it came off so forced and hokey to me. It's Rampage. His schtick has gotten way old with me and it all seems so forced and cheesy these days. But whatever, at least Rampage and Mo won, which means they can finally do that fight. The PPV is May 17th and it's really a no brainer to stick Rampage vs Mo as co-main under Alvarez vs Chandler 3. Should be good. Especially if they throw a Doug Lima and Pitbull on there as well. Mo won comfy but didn't look too good. Rampage finish was brutal, but he didn't look in the best of shape to me. Nunes vs Bessette was excellent though. Big win for Bessette. Quote
