Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted March 18, 2011 Author Paid Members Share Posted March 18, 2011 England have called up Jade Dernbach. Huh?!
Moderators PowerButchi Posted March 18, 2011 Moderators Share Posted March 18, 2011 Looking at his averages it appears that he's a bit of a one day specialist, but it's still a bit left field. Also, is there any real point taking an unproven in Internationals quick to the dead pitches of the Subcontinent?

I can only presume they picked him because of their obsession with finding bowlers who can bowl reverse swing. It's a bit of a pisser for Woakes and Plunkett though after they played in Australia. England do this all the time to players - give them one or two games, make them feel as though they're part of the squad, and dump them for someone completely new. kilgore
A fast bowler who can actually bowl people out is what England are crying out for in this competition so, if he's that, then good call.
The Curious Orange
Once they decided to go like for like it had to be someone from the Lions squad as they'd be the only ones physically ready at this stage of the year to come in and bowl pace. Â Plunkett's just pulled out injured so then you only had Dernbach, Harris and Woakes to chose from - and Dernbach's been the pick of the 3 there so far, and with the pitches there are pretty similar to Indian ones now and it it being a knockout situation you might as well pick the one in form. Â I think Woakes would've got the nod if it was any other conditions, but I think the lack of pace and reliance on traditional swing would've made him pretty expensive in India. Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted March 18, 2011 Author Paid Members Share Posted March 18, 2011 Didn't know that Plunkett was injured actually, fair enough. Â We'll see with Dernbach. When I've seen him for Surrey he's taken wickets but been generally pretty expensive. I don't think they could afford him and Anderson in the same team, that's for sure. But it's always good to see some new talent come through so I hope he does well.
Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted March 19, 2011 Author Paid Members Share Posted March 19, 2011 I've just found out the apartment block we're moving in June into is owned by a certain Mr Andrew Flintoff! Mrs Small doesn't seem to care though, but she's not spoiling it for me. I hope it's not like that Seinfeld episode with George and the Jon Voight car and it turns out it's another Andrew Flintoff

Paid Members Murtz Posted March 21, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted March 21, 2011 Can someone explain this appeal system to me? Why is it that sometimes when the Umpire's 'not out' lbw decision is appealed, and the footage shows the ball clipping the stump, the umpire still sticks to his original decision? Glenryck Pilchards
Can someone explain this appeal system to me? Why is it that sometimes when the Umpire's 'not out' lbw decision is appealed, and the footage shows the ball clipping the stump, the umpire still sticks to his original decision? Â As good as it is Hawkeye has not got 100% accuracy all the time, so if the ball is only just clipping the stump in its simulation it then goes on the umpire's original call. If the bowling team make a referral to an LBW decision, if it clips the stumps then it is not out, if it is lower down then the decision will be reversed. If a batsman has been given out for LBW and refers to the TV umpire and Hawkeye shows it has clipped the stumps then he is given out. If it is missing the stump completely then the decision is reversed. Â I hope that clears it up for you!
Baz Windham
It must look mental to non-fans when a not-out decision is appealed and it shows it hitting the stumps (sometimes full on) and remains not out, I think they are still too half-hearted with the technology. In Tennis with Hawk-eye if a ball is given out but is shown to just be clipping the line then it's reversed, I lnow it's slightly different but it's the same technology.
