  1. Yes it would make things a lot easier but unfortunatly i dont know the location other than approx an hours drive from st neots in cambridgeshire which makes it bucks, beds, cambs area.

Was on sat 16th jan, and had mens and womens matches, but other than that dont know a great deal more i'm afriad.

It might be worth your while ploughing through the UK Events sub forum to see if any shows listed correlate with what you already know. A bit longwinded, but better than nothing.

  2. Yeah fair play to Wolfie, he got a lead and kept it pretty consistently for once. He's had an easy route but certianly produced the goods there in a close one. 10 darter and a 170 in a final can't be bad. Anyone know what his average was in the end? Chisnall did well all through and would have been nice for him but at the same time nice for Adams to lift the trophy more than once.

Very Good quality final overall though.

Fair play to Wolfie in the final. He was the one person who was consistent throughout the tournament and fully deserved the win. Yeah, I doubt he could have chosen a better draw if he had personally handpicked his opponent for each round (Fleet was drunk, Gurney didn't turn up and was a shadow of the player who defeated Mitchell, Thompson fluked his way to the quarter finals and Phillips was already beaten by the time he started playing) but he can only beat what is infront of him.

Overall there were some very enjoyable matches in the tournament (especially Pecker vs Wagner), and I think Colin Murray after taking a bit of time getting used to him, did well. Rob Walker was atrocious and really needs to be ditched, in fact his best performance was Sunday when he was no longer there and had cleared off to do his shitty Snooker intros. I really wish they would ditch the aftermatch interviews in the bar, as I always tend to be drawn to looking at the pissed up idiots in the background mugging for the cameras. Bobby George was fine, David Croft was good, and Uncle Tony was well, Uncle Tony. Also, FatzMaurice needs to be got rid of, infact I would get rid of him before Green.

  3. I don't think, although you never know, that O'shea would jump if he won, seems like a BDO man. Not sure about Chisnall and whether he's even ready to, should he win it. You can't blame them if they do jump but it's nice if the BDO keeps a few of it's past winners.

Everything that I have read about O'Shea indicates that he is happy in the BDO (representing his county, country etc), plus I am guessing he does very well on the Exhibition circuit. You also have to fathom in to this his age, and whether he fancies all the travel that comes with the PDC. However, if he wins the Lakeside, and Hearn comes knocking with the final Premier League place he will have some serious thinking to do.

  4. Sorry didnt realise you had to be a memeber to view

Anyway Manley by Armbar if the fight would have happned

Yeah, I don't understand why you have to register to view the posts, it is the same with the bdo forum.

In regards to last nights action I felt it was all pretty lackluster in the end. In the two games I was really looking forward to Gurney just didn't turn up, and it was a fairly comfortable night for Wolfie, whilst Big Hendo's doubling was poor, and although his scoring kept him in it, Scotty 2 Hotty was not really troubled. First lot of quarters tonight, and I would expect O'Shea to be too much for Wagner, and am backing Chisnall to pull the upset knocking out Sir Tedward of Hankey.

  5. There's a million Raw/TNA threads at the moment but I have no idea where to ask this so I guess this is the best place. From the latest Observer after discussing WWE's attitude towards TNA and how they had been negotiating with Bret before Hogan signed for TNA and therefore didn't bring him in to rival TNA:

The Charlie Haas situation should tell you all you need to know about WWE and their reaction to any competition.

    Charlie Haas situation?

From what I heard (probably on here somewhere) Kurt Angle wanted to bring Haas to TNA to work a program with him and when WWE got wind of it they re-signed Haas to a new deal for more money. Yes, Charlie Haas!!??

Fuck off. There's no way that can be true. Right??

    From another board altogether.

There was a rumor going that Kurt Angle was interested in bringing in Haas, Vince got word and resigned Haas to a new deal at better pay than what he was making just to make him unavailable to TNA. Of course Vince is paying him to stay home and work at his nutritional supply company but I'm sure he's not complaining too much.
  6. I'm not signing up to just to see one post - can you c&p it for the non-members of that board?

It is being reported that at the awards at the Dorchester, Phil Taylor and Peter Manley had a disagreement which resulted in Phil throwing a pint over Pater and then removing his jacket and offering to fight Peter, he was then restrained and/or calmed down and the players were seperated.
  7. He got my vote too, was actually pretty shocked to see he was quite far behind C/W Mark.

I think we are just spoilt for choice with the level of dolts this year. Personally, Seb, C/W and steven1977 I believe are all worthy winners. Sadly, we can only vote for one, and as a result the votes end up getting split between them.

  8. In regards to Tony Fleet, the opinion over at the Stars of Darts forum, and pretty much acknowledged by Colin Murray on the afternoon coverage was that Fleet was pissed after spending too much time at the bar. Bobby George was in absolute hysterics when they were going over the game yesterday.

In regards to yesterday's matches I missed Bunting/O'Shea but saw everything else. Edward Hankerchief looked pretty comfortable against Free Willy, although I could do without the camera constantly panning to the Hankey clan in the crowd. I thoroughly enjoyed Magician Wagner against Pecker Woods, and whilst the finishing was shocking (over 100 darts thrown at a double) it was a dramatic back and forth game, including a couple of tremendous back to back bull finishes in the final leg. Chisnall again reaffirmed why he is one to keep your eye on, and was averaging in excess of 100 at one point.

Couple of games I am looking forward to tonight in Waites/Henderson and Adams/Gurney. On a final note, does anyone know much about Deta Hedman? The pros in the know backed her for the womens title before she had even qualified, but is now facing 'The Golden Girl' in the semis.

  9. For the month or so that he was around at the start of the year BURR was a terrible poster, and that moronic thread about James Wallace and some pathetic Facebook campaign by Enigma Tapes and heavily endorsed by feel C/W the Mark bang Please! almost made me change my nomination, but I couldn't see past steven1977uk2002. The guy is an absolute dolt of the highest order. He practically ruined TheHistoryofWWE.com forum by posting in every thread and proceeding to have the last say in every thread, he got banned from Crazy Max for having two separate names and pretending to be two different people (completely against the rules in a DVD trading forum), and he made the outlandish claims that he has every WWE/WWF/WCW/NWA show recorded from 1977 to present day on video, a complete lie for so many reasons, but again check his posts in classifieds where he is looking for stuff. The guy posts the most stupid of questions in the question thread, he used to start threads about one subject, then when he didn't like what people were posting he would change the initial post and title to make the thread about something completely different. It was only when neil warned him that next time he did this he would be banned did he stop (his old habit was deleting threads he made when he didn't like how people were responding, but he couldn't do that here), and dont mention the spindels thread. Simple Steven gets my vote by a country mile.

  10. To illustrate Butch's point the match between Montgomery and Thompson that was just on interactive was very close but woeful quality. I enjoyed the back and forthness of it but it was hard to watch with both players averaging mid 70's and missing tons of doubles

I gave up on Montgomery/Thompson as the standard was so poor. For all the smoke they continue to blow up Montgomery's ass, the guy can not cut it in the big televised events, pretty similar to Colin Osborne in the PDC. Tony Fleet who is playing Wolfie is having an absolute shocker. The guy looks like a bag of nerves, is dropping his arrows, and his first leg featured a 25, a 5 and an 11.

  11. I am starting to warm to Colin Murray, but Rob Walker has really got to go. Constantly referring to players by their nicknames when he interviews them (like he has been mates with them for years), constantly referring to his notes cause he clearly doesn't follow the sport, and there was one awful interview where he was calling Shaun Greatbatch (who was looking great by the way) a Legend. The guy should just stick to doing his lousy snooker intros.

Is he the guy who does the wrap up at the end of the night, before Darts Extra? He kept reaching out and touching Bobby George on the shoulder in a really inappropriate way, it looked like Bobby was thinking about taking a swing at him by the end.

Possibly. I dont watch the Darts Extra show, but he is constantly touching the players, family etc. when he interviews them so more than likely it is him doing the same with Bobby.

Dave Chisnall was getting tipped BIG by Robbie Green before last year's WCs, which sort of made me take note, and he didn't disappoint, nor did Daryl Gurney, who looked a right arrogant wee sod, but in the Nicholson mould, which means I liked him immediately.

The big thing is whether all these people who were 'touted' can actually perform on the World Stage. Chisnall proved that he clearly can, however, people were expecting big things of Ian White, and he ended up getting out played by Stephen Bunting. I remember dispising Gurney last year, hopefully he is a more amiable chap this year.

  12. On an aside Colin Murray just said to the rather large John Henderson when talking about his opponent "I thought you were going to put him in a sandwich" Oh dear

He's been doing stuff like that all weekend. Cheeky wee bastard. I like him.

Green continues to do my head in though. Croft rightly got the pronunciation of Greenock, but Green went on and told him he was wrong, and decided to alternate between Grenock and Grinock.

Green should have been put out to pasture a long time ago, but as the 'face of TV darts' he will have a job for as long as he wants one. Similar situation with Waddell and Sky. I don't know whether it was at last years worlds or the years before, where one of the players required 2, and Green said "I wonder which way he will go?". Caused a great bit of debate over at the Stars of Darts forum, as the general consensus was that it wasn't said in jest. Green does himself no favours by not even acknowledging the rival PDC, at least Croft talks about them, wishes the players luck, congratulates them etc. Yesterday when Scott Waites was playing Croft pretty much said that he will heading over to the PDC after the Worlds, but Tony just kept quiet. I will say that a couple of my friends met Green in Bridlington at the Masters, and said he was a really nice man.

Waites has looked the best of the BDO boys so far, although Dave Chisnall is a dark horse. I said in this thread this time last year when he took on Adams that he was the real deal, and nothing has changed my opinion of him. Looking forward to seeing Wolfie when he kicks off his campaign.

  13. First match at Lakeside was quite exciting but only because they were both fucking rubbish. And one of them was the #1 seed!

I wouldnt be that harsh on them. The finishing was appalling but they both scored well. It should be pointed out that the First Round of the Lakeside is generally poor (last year was unbelievably dire), mainly due to the lack of depth there nowadays. I have already had enough of Colin Murray, and Rob Walker really needs to just fuck off.

  14. Was watching some old Ravens Flock in WCW and Tenay mentioned a "Toughman/NHB" Division, this was in 1997 and was anythng really made of this?

There was definately a period when Bischoff was looking to bring in a group of legit MMA fighters, however the only name I remember as a cert was Don Frye. It is on one of the old Wrestling Observer Lives where Frye was a guest, and he tells a great tale about how he met with Eric Bischoff for lunch to discuss him joining WCW. Ernest Miller was either already with Bischoff or turned up late, then Miller started spouting off about how he would win the UFC as he would knock every one out. Frye started saying that he wouldn't knock him out, and Miller responds by saying they have never had a true world class kickboxer in the UFC, to which Frye responded with Maurice Smith. Miller kinda dismissed Smith, and was again spouting his own credentials and how he would knock everyone out. At which point Frye had enough of Miller, got in his face, and offered him outside there and then. No fight occurred, but that was the end of Frye for WCW, and probably also put the nail in the proposed MMA division. Frye also mentioned that due to his actions, WCW didn't even pay any of his bills.

Frye's incredibly lucky that Miller didnt step outside. The Cat is a THREE TIME WORLD KARATE CHAMPION. And a great dancer. He'd have stunned Frye with a one-liner and kicked him in the jaw while he was still groggy from witnessing a James Brown shuffle.

Coincidentally enough, from the current issue of the Observer that Meltzer has just released (issue 4th January 2010). Meltzer wrote a piece on Frye as he announced his retirement from MMA.

He (Frye) had talks with both WWF and WCW during that period, and in later years, had negotiations with TNA, but never wrestled for a major U.S. promotion. WWF was concerned with his legendary drinking. WCW saw him get into an argument that nearly turned into a fight with Ernest Miller, a management pet, who kept telling Frye that he
  15. My initial reaction was to go with BJ Penn or GSP, but after thinking some more, I realised that neither of those fighters had really had an oustanding year .

Penn has lost to GSP, and beaten Kenny Florian and Diego Sanchez, whilst GSP had beaten Penn and Thiago Alves.

I've decided to go with Gegard Mousasi.

He has managed to get three solid wins under his belt, with a possible fourth taking place on the last day of 2009.

Improvement in his game has been excellent, and he seems like a real star for the future.

Pretty much my thinking when sorting out my nominations for this. There is no way I would consider Penn after losing to GSP, no matter how good he looked against Florian and Sanchez, hence why I went with Aldo. Four wins for the year, looked incredible throughout, won the WEC Featherweight title, and if WEC do plan on doing a PPV, the proposed main event if everything goes correctly is Aldo vs Faber.
