  1. 5 nights at Freddie's

Is it just me or did this film just not make any sense? I had nothing against the concept or the way it looks (never played the games) but it's so badly put together and all over the place that it was just fucking nonsense.

    Trolls 3

I thought this was great, I love the character design in these films (except I hate their stupid cloud caterpillar vehicle) and I was really stoned in the cinema with no one else in the screen and was just enjoying the absolute assault of mad sounds and visuals. Its crazy how intense kids films are now, not with their themes but just the level of visual and audio stimulation is something people wouldn't have been able to comprehend a generation ago.

I loved the design of the funny big puppet people and Velvet and Veneer, they looked so cool.

    .Sympathy for the Devil (2023)

You seen this one, @Bellenda Carlisle?

    Babylon

I'm ashamed to say I haven't seen it yet! Will have to download it ASAP.  I also haven't seen his new western where he's bald, will have to have a Cage catch up fest soon.

And Dream scenario isn't showing at my cinema cos of a disputd with Odeon, absolutely infuriates me when I can't go and see a new film with my limitless pass, I'm not fucking paying to go somewhere else unless it's for some special cult arthouse film or something.

I loved Babylon, those huge party scenes and stuff were wild on the big screen I listen to the soundtrack all the time as well.

  3. I saw the Yeah Yeah Yeahs last year and the bootleg T shirts outside were the exact same design as the official ones inside, I couldn't believe it. I was impressed although I did always like the old ghetto bootleg designs at gigs, they often looked cooler than the legit ones.

was the follow up series any good?

I liked it a lot but I was already ecstatic just at the fact that it was being made so I was an easy sell.

Macgruber is a bit more tragic in it, it's not quite as wildly joyous as the film but it still has the same vibe and  good production values.  The first scene with Kirsten Wiig in it is actually possibly my favourite "bit" in anything in the last few years, it's amazing.

  5. https://www.darkhorizons.com/warners-scraps-coyote-vs-acme-release/

Warner bros scrapping the release of another finished film rather than releasing it. Sounds like it was really my bag too, Will (Magruber) Forte as Wile E Coyote's lawyer vs John Cena as head of Acme in a hybrid live action cartoon. I think some version if this has been in development for like well over a decade from what I remember.

Is Will Forte best know for Macgruber? Maybe last man on earth, I think he's hilarious in any case.

    Joy Ride (2023)

Also very funny, and I wish I'd seen it at the cinema.

I saw a screen unseen preview of this where no one in the sold out cinema knew what the movie was going to be until it started, it won us all over quickly and everyone was pissing themselves the whole time, it was a great atmosphere. I really enjoyed it too and thought about it a lot since. The cast were perfect, I don't think anyone could have been better as the lead.

Massive spoiler below, don't read if you're gonna ever watch it

    Spoiler

The twist about her really being Korean was one of my favourite jokes of the year, I can't get over how perfect a joke/twist it was for the film.

  7. How can such a "blue collar folksy man of the people" charge £200 for tickets? What if working class teen Jimmy who works in the factory that's about to close down and his pregnant girlfriend want to go?

  8. After I got back from beetlejuice I watched

The Babysitter and The Babysitter: Killer Queen

I loved these! Can't believe they passed me by all this time. The first one was a really fun wild twist on a classic horror film but the sequel was absolute insanity, I had no idea where it was going at any point but I was loving the ride. (As opposed to something like happy death day 2 where the sequel went crazy and I wasn't feeling it at all). I could see people hating the sequel as it went so off the rails, but watching it at 3am straight after the other one it was great.

The main guy was a kid in the first one and a late teen in the second and they really lucked out because anything could have happened to that actor in the interim but he became a really appealing young lead.

I always thought Robbie Amell was the most useless actor in existence but he was great in this so I take it back and apologise publicly.

Ken Marino is in it which was a wonderful surprise as he gives me pure joy every time I see him on screen.

Also I've never seen Bella Thorne in anything before, fucking hell.

  9. Beetlejuice was showing at my cinema as a Halloween treat. It's such a wonderful and unique film, been one of my absolute faves since I was a kid and left a huge impression on me. Was great seeing it on the big screen, the score sounded incredible. Tim Burton was magic for the first decade of his career. Hope the sequel recaptures the magic 😬. Another thing about beetlejuice is I think it would be a kids film if it came out now unfortunately.

  10. Suitable Flesh This is an erotic horror film starring Heather Graham.

No amount of critiquing would have stopped me from watching it after hearing that premise, but it is terrible and has an awful ending. Was nice seeing Heather though, I always thought she was great and she's never in anything.

  11. There's a new 50 minute South Park special; South Park: Joining the Panderverse, riffing on on diversity in Disney movies, A.I, multiverse stories etc.

As you can imagine it's extremely typical South Park stuff, they've been doing it for 25 years so you should know how much you like it by now. If you still care about the show at all in the 2020s it has its moments, I liked the black girl version of cartman and PC Principal (my fave character) was perfect in his scene.

I also like the format of getting a longer standalone special every now and then.

I haven't seen any of the MK animated movies. Have you seen any of the others? Might pick up the Scorpion one.

I remember the animated SF2 movie was ace (that was 30 years ago mind).

I think I liked the scorpion one but can't remember it well, might rewatch it later.

I agree street fighter 2 anime is the gold standard, that was a revelation when it came out. My tastes in anime do lean heavily towards stuff from the 80s and early 90s though, can't beat that vintage anime vibe

  13. Mortal Kombat: Cage match a new feature length cartoon about Johnny Cage from Mortal Kombat.

The best thing about it is It's set in the 80s, it adds so much, the GTA vice city look and bootleg eye of the tiger soundtrack were really fun. Johnny Cage was always my fave MK character and I really like how they've done him here, he has a lot of personality (Joel McHale's voice) and his 80s character design is nice.

Everything else about it was pretty generic.
