  1. Yeah sorry wasn't really paying attention to what thread I was in. Obviously not something you should be having to do.

Interesting how it is simultaneously something the landlord has never heard of happening before while he is also able to instantly diagnose with certainty what the cause is.

  2. I've been listening to the Herzog book and it's bloody brilliant. Thanks Pat. My only complaint is that one day i had it on when I went out for a run and got stuck listening to the chapter where he goes on about football for bloody ages.

  3. I have a pod machine. You can buy compostable pods at least these days, so that's something.

It's probably not as good as real coffee but i only started drinking coffee last year anyway so I'm not a snob (yet).

The biggest myth people tell themselves is that there's an appetite for radical change (in Britain at least). People really don't like big change, it's scary and unsettling. People want to be made to feel comfortable.

I believe the change that I'd like to see (and likely you too) will be a forced reaction to job erosion by technology. Discussions around UBI, social housing etc that wouldn't occur without external factors forcing them. Its when this happens that we'll need a left-leaning Government rather than an 'every man for himself" approach we'd get under the current regime.

As well as this I just wouldn't trust our government to manage big swelling change particularly well as it's not set up for it and no-one who works there has ever done it. So you'd need an awful lot of willingness to overcome that. (See: shifts that happened during covid and subsequent backslides)

  5. I don't think people are necessarily using literally to mean figuratively when they don't use it to mean literally. They're sometimes using it solely to add emphasis on a completely literal context right?

E.g. "that's literally the dumbest shit you've ever said Chest"doesn't include any kind of metaphor for anything.

There was the Step Foot Wives, I think that's where it came from.

I'm not a big fan of sequels. I preferred Step Foot and the Hendersons.

  7. Ah sweet. Looking forward to hearing some of those tracks properly in full!

That hook has already been back in my head for a few days incidentally, triggered just from don't a picture of Rachael mcadans

  8. You being you, I assume you've already seen Above The Rim. Is it as crap as I assume it is?

(Despite having never seen the film as a term it is in my lexicon as a measure of a big messy shit)

  9. Oof. I couldn't get through I, Tonya. Was way too bleak for me. Maybe it just wasn't what I was expecting going in but I'm not really sure what I was expecting..

Any Given Sunday I always loved, but haven't seen it in years.

That said, I think in retrospect he'll be judged harshly for not using a one term Presidency to elevate heirs and not just convince himself he's the only guy who can beat Trump.

The level of hubris / inertia the democrats maintain in the face of continual failures is really quite something.

  11. It felt crazy innovative to me as a consumer at the time, but have subsequently felt like it turned out to be a creative dead end as I haven't seen it's fingerprints on anything else.

Interesting that from an insider perspective you see it as being an inflection point. What are its "successors" as you see it?

I really enjoyed The Martian, mainly because Matt Damon is bloody excellent in it. I didn't think it would end the way it did though.

    Spoiler

I enjoyed the film a lot but I do find it very funny that the ending they went with for the film is, in the book, an idea the character comes up with and then dismisses as really fucking stupid.
