I've been having a very similar thought in my head for the past year. Turned 30 in April and I've been making big strides in losing my beer belly and wobbly man-tits since May. I feel that, if I keep it up, I should be in decent shape come next April.

My nearest school would be Fight Club Pro but they're pretty full-on what with the direct involvement of Trent Seven and they have ties everywhere. At my age, I'm just looking for a motivation to keep fit, so I'm not looking at being scouted and making a serious go at things. I just want to train and maybe get a chance to wrestle once or twice a month.

Would I be better suited traveling a bit further a field and training at a less ambitious company?

Oh, yeah, it's not like I'm thinking of actually becoming a professional wrestler properly. I am nowhere near athletic enough. But I figure I want to do something "sporty", I like wrestling and I can already take a pretty good bump so why not do it? And if I should ever be considered good enough to actually wrestle in front of paying fans... well, that would be pretty awesome.

There has been a Mid-South Podcast in production from Arcadian Vanguard for well over a year every now and then they say it's going to start and it all goes quiet again

Most say the Bill Dundee as booker was there most successful, could be a good starting point

Could be an idea. I'll do some further research tonight.

On another note, is the only legitimate way to watch Starrcast by paying $150 to Fite? That's crazy. I only have interest in maybe four things over the multiple days ffs.

My work in doing a weight loss challenge. Winner gets £80.

I have a BMI of over 35 and weight 19.4 something stone. It's a six week challenge.

So how do I drop the "quick weight"? The weight that you always hear about that falls off at a crazy pace at first, before the real hard work starts?

Any takers on this apart from eating rancid tuna?

  4. I've been thinking of starting a wrestling podcast. Yes, I know that we've got wrestling podcasts out the ass right now, so I want to start one looking at less dissected periods in wrestling history. I was thinking maybe Mid South or something along those lines.

I suppose the biggest thing is that there would have to be enough footage, easily accessible, to get through, where I'd record one a week or fortnightly looking at, say, a run of TV and, if possible, get a wrestler involved on to talk about feuds, booking, whatever from that time period.

Any suggestions on a time period that hasn't been done to death that people would enjoy a podcast about?

  5. I'm toying with the idea of, at the ripe old age of 31, going back to pro-wrestling training as a way to get fit and have fun doing it. I was surprised to find there is a training school really near to me. What kind of reputation does Hustle Wrestling UK have?

I know that the website states you don't already need to be in shape to get started there, but I know from my experiences of training at RBW years ago that I'll be in a much better position if I get some fitness together before starting.

  6. I stuck with it nearly all the way to the end of the season last year, for the first time, because there was money involved via work and I was in contention up until around the last two gameweeks where the guy in 1st just shot ahead and I knew I wasn't going to catch him. It'll be the same this year - money involved is the only way I can keep interested season long.

Yeah, its like its something to be ashamed of. I would prefer it if Bischoff, instead of denying something that we all know is true, pointed out that this is exactly what McMahon did (and often much worse) in the early to mid 80's. I detest the company's double standards when it comes to that.

It's fucking hilarious in the WWE's series Monday Night Wars the narrator always says something along the lines of, "armed with Ted Turner's checkbook, WCW would sign established WWF stars." The most apropos line, which for whatever reason they allowed into that series, is from a deposition Ted Turner did where he says the WWF didn't have a right to a monopoly on the wrestling business. Which they didn't. I've never understood how anyone on the WWE side could, with a straight face, play the victim card with their revisionist history when it comes to the wars.

Especially when in the Back In Black video in 2002 Nash admitted he went to WCW because Scott told him there was better money to be made. Amazing how many stupid people are currently deciding that Bischoff and Nash lied about something for 20 years and are only telling the truth now. And sharing this wisdom with Meltzer too.

Both Nash and Hall have stated in God knows how many shoot interviews over the years that they were offered a whole load more money than they were getting in the WWF, plus the easier schedule. How many times have we heard Nash tell that story about him and Hall being in the showers and Hall telling Nash about how much he could make over in WCW? Or about Nash then getting an offer from WCW that Vince couldn't match? Jesus.

  9. I'm totally done with this weather. I don't think I've seen a drop of rain since May. The soundtrack of this summer is the monotone hum of shitty oscillating fans that do very little to actually keep me cool.

Every year I say to myself that the following winter I'm buying AC, when the prices come down, but I swear on everything that this winter I'm doing it.

We've had some hot summers in the last, I don't know, decade or so but I can't remember the last time it was this hot, this consistently. If it goes on much longer, expect rioting to break out somewhere.

Eric's been exposed so badly now that he's pretty much forced to give answers to questions put his way, he's always given politician like non answers during interviews.

I have to say, while I know at the end of the day they're all working, all trying to make money, I'm quite interested in Eric doing this 90 minute panel thing with RD Reynolds on the Death of WCW book. If you believe Eric, he's actually going to be breaking down why the book, in his words, in a piece of shit, full of bullshit.

i don't know that I want to pay for it, mind you, so I'm hoping one of the wrestling torrent sites will have all the Starrcast stuff up at some point.

  11. I don't understand why Bischoff is, 20 fucking years later, trying to claim that he didn't pay Hall and Nash more money than Vince was or was able to. To the point where he got Nash to do a 15 second video where he says, "I went to WCW for the schedule."

I personally find this whole 83Weeks with Meltzer rebutting loads of the shite Bischoff comes out and then Bischoff flipping his lid about it the next week highly amusing though.

  12. So, given my academic career is on hold for over a year, I've put myself back in contention for the promotion at work I previously turned down, given I was supposed to be starting my masters in September.

Although I really am not a fan of the actual work I do, I know the company inside and out and given that my base salary would rise to £40k + before the end of the year, it could be a good opportunity to pay off some existing debts and put a little money aside so that, when I am ready to leave the business development world behind forever, I've got some savings to see me through until I start finding regular writing work.

I am going to have a meeting with the MD today or tomorrow. I do have some "demands" although they are more like things I'd like and am unlikely to get. For example, I'm willing to take £35k p/a for now, but I want the OTE element dropped. No more targets. He knows I set up meetings for our clients that are extremely well qualified, not wishy washy, send them anywhere sort of ones. I do not want to be working to a target.

Of course, I may change my mind again as, if I do do this, I'll be back to doing it full time and frankly that thought makes me want to throw myself in front of a tube. So, we shall see.

  14. I don't know what's going on at Spurs. When Poch signed his new deal so early into the off-season. I figured Levy must have made some serious assurances in response to Poch saying the club needed to "be brave" and "take risks." I thought that this year, we might see Spurs do deals early, basically. It hasn't happened, though. And we haven't exactly been strongly linked with anyone, really, outside of Jack Grealish.

I might take it all back come the end of the window but if we don't make some serious moves, soon, it has to be said that Levy has really fucked the dog here.

  15. It turns out that Norfolk is a massive hotbed of New Japan Wrestling fans. I had three different people in some tiny coastal town comment on my LIJ t-shirt in one day.

For those who were there: Jonny Storm + Broken Ring + "Hey Baby"

What show was this? Pretty sure I was there.

I think my first FWA show may have also been Seasons Beatings. Then I attended shows fairly often, including Frontiers of Honor. Whatever my first FWA show was, someone had told me the Alex Shane/Mavis story and I brought a sign that said Alex Shane = Mavis that I recall Robbie Brookside finding highly amusing. The start of the JobberToTheStars/Alex Shane feud that never got blown off!

  17. Just going to throw this in here since not exactly sure where best to put it: I was in Norfolk yesterday and today in a town called Sheringham and read Crazy Like a Fox in about 8 hours. More than likely anyone on here who was going to buy or read it will have done so already, but it's great. Really fantastic. I highly recommend it to anyone who has yet to read it. Question for Liam: do you get paid if I rent the book using my Prime subscription or only if I buy a copy outright?

  18. Fucking hell. Is there any point at which the US federal government can decide that the president is actively working against US interests and can't or shouldn't be allowed to stay if office? Seriously. How is he standing next to the Russian president and going against what his own intelligence and law enforcement officials are telling him? It's crazy.
