  1. Another one of those films that I had not had the chance to check for some reason or another, but watched it last night:

    Equilibrium

Where to start on this one?

    Pros:

The plot is very good, with the world being torn apart by war a new civilisation has sprung up in which all members supress any and all feelings,(Via a drug), to avoid confrontation of any kind. In addition to this all material that might assist you in "feeling". So Books/Paintings/Music/Animals etc etc, are all burnt on the spot. This leads to people not taking said drug and wanting to "feel"....but ultimately getting caught out and excecuted. Christian Bale play an enforcer of this "law" who ultimately comes to question what hes being told. Is it all for the greater good, or just another form of control?

The overall Direction of the film seemed very good as well, has this guy done any other movies?ASean Bean is in it, and although his part is small (like most recent films I've seen him in really) he does well for his part. Also we get a cameo from Brian Conley! For what its worth, i'm a fan of his comedy work from when i was a young lad, so to see him gave me a nice suprise!

    Cons:

It felt a like it was missing something. I cant really put my finger on it, but i felt like this was a great film, but maybe they didnt get the budget needed to give it a glossy look. That being said, you can see the best was done on whatever budget they had to make this.

Cracking film, worth a watch. I would also say worth adding to the DVD collection if you havent already got it!

  2. So following on from last weeks film, this week it was of course:

    Aliens

As i mentioned last week, i dont really want to go into to much detail as its been said a million times, but again very very good! (It was the special edition if that helps).

I enjoyed the dynamic between Ripley and Bishop, (I also enjoyed the small reference to the 3 laws of robotics from him!, wasnt to sure about the whole "Newt" aspect of the movie, which IMPO the movie wouldnt of missed her if she wasnt in it.....then again of course why else would Ripley go back into the Terrorforming machine? I also officially hate the company she works for, as well as the Company rep who goes with her (i forget his name).......but what an utter cunt. I was actualy getting a bit miffed at the whole inquest thing at the start, "Well for reasons unknown it was you who blew up the space station". They know everything, which makes it so great!

Again forgetting the odd 1 or 2 things that pop up, a great film. I would say for me personally, the first one was the better of the two, but again thats just my view as a whole.

Looking forward to Alien 3 next week!

  3. Sorry, I no longer deal in tape trading. My system got old and broken down and I decided not to upgrade for trading as it would cost too much compared to the interest of Japanese wrestling these days. I haven't even watched wrestling in 3 months and stopped at the 2010 footage.

    --PUNQ--

    Boo-urns!

I enjoyed the Japanese wrestling threads on here :( i still keep up with DG and New Japan via the respective websites (iheartDG and puroresufan), but did enjoy your thread with the pics andstuff.

  4. This has possibly been asked before but does anyone know the best place to get update to date DVD's of Japanese shows, particularly Big Japan?

Not sure if he'd have the latest ones, but UKFFer PUNQ does alot of Japanese dvds i believe!

  5. Is it the special edition? If not, watch it soon after because it does add a lot to the film. It's not essential but there are some great things in it.

If this is aimed at me, i have no idea. Its whatever version Channel 4 normally show!

Looks as though it's over 3 hours long with ads so it should be the special edition. If it has any bits with Newt's parents, then it's that version.

    Cool

I'll be checking it out either way, as i randomly never got around to seeing any of the Alien films (bar the unrelated/terrible AVP movies).

Just a quick one on top of this one then, of the various Alien movies, which is the best/your personal favourite?

  6. It's so hard to do prequels though - the ship in this is obviously going to look a lot more advanced than the Nostromo, but then maybe that's not so wrong. The Nostromo was the space equivalent of a long-distance lorry, so it was bound to be old and beat up. This is a swishy science vessel.

I dont really know if this would be in relation to this directly although IIRC it was mentioned in the Alien films, everything looked "worn/lived in" and this prequel will look "Clean/brand new".

So in theory, it shouldnt be a bad thing

  7. Might get a slap for only just watching it but i finally watched:

    Alien

And without having to go into a large write up about it, its very very good. A few little bits kinda of bothered me a little bit, (such as how that robot bloke gets into the Mother interface room, without making any noise, only for Ripley to leave and make shit loads of "WHIR/BZZZ" sounds via the door on the way out), but i cant believe i didnt watch it sooner! Also is Ripley rather hot? I cant decide to be honest. Also Ripley calling "Mother" a bitch when the ship is exploding was great.

Cracking film anyway, and a great movie to watch!

    8.5/10

Aliens is on this week (Wednesday i believe) so i'll be checking that out as well!

  8. I had no idea it was coming out so soon. Cannot fucking wait, though, it looks very Alien-y; I thought there wasn't meant to be a connection besides for it being in the same universe?

Well the director said this, only for the producer to say "No, it is related, and is a prequel".

Aparently the plot has been leaked online, which having scanned through quickly, i must say sounds interesting to say the least.

  9. Or just that Hogan told them to belt the belt on his boy on the day, and Reed didn't really give a shit?

To be fair it could of been anything, ranging from whats been suggested and/or the fact he just wasnt going to win it at all really.

  10. I was watching a shoot interview the other day where Honky himself gave the no-show line and denied that Butch Reed was there for the celebration when the video was brought up. Of course, the interview was with Feinstein, who has never watched any wrestling apart from mid-90s ECW and is a fucking idiot, so he hadn't actually watched the clip and didn't argue the point.

Would it be more likely that Butch Reed was still supposed to go over, although had done something on the day (or around that time) to piss people off, thus changing the match and have Honkey go over?

  11. Was going to ipw:uk 2006-8 ,guessing they've given up the game. But what happened to JC Thunder, Paul Robinson, Ashley Reed and Andy Simmons? I know Andy got injured badly.

I think Paul Robinson does the London School of Lucha Libre.

What exactly happened to Andy Simmons?

From what i recall, he's taken a bit of time away from wrestling as he also runs his own business (of which i couldnt tell you). He did pop up on a few shows last year but nothing much.

A shame really as hes a really talented guy, IPW:UK should get him back asap!

  12. Rented out some DVDs last night, the first of which being:

    Captain America

I had been looking forward to this for a while as I didnt get the chance to get down the cinema when it came out.

Plot wise, its an "origin story" with them picking the kid who goes onto be the first super soldier etc. They way it was put across was fairly good, showing that a persons real charecter comes from the passion they have for something, and not just the physical attributes. The later scences in which he become some sort of propaganda icon, is pure greatness.

Other than that it's "OK" at best ,(i thought it was better than Green Lantern though), with some shots looking rather cheap at times, which sort of puts you off. On the whole it feels like it could of been knocked up a notch, as you sort of feel not alot really happens. But in seeing the "Secret ending" which i believe was originally after the credits, (now being shopped onto the direct ending of the film) does have me hyped up for the Avengers movie later this year.

If you fancy this, and do enjoy a decent super hero film. Check it out, if you need something that gives you a better 'Pay-off' then maybe give it a miss. Its an origin film / super long promo for The Avengers, so dont expect to much from it.

    7/10.

    Also got to see:

Rise of the Planet of the Apes

Another movie i didnt get chance to see at the cinema. During this time i was generally hyped to see it anyway, but of those who did see it, did mention it was amazing. And they are not wrong!

As you would imagine, this is about how the apes come to break away from being "Test subjects" or "Zoo animals" and thus take over the world. For this film in itself, we see how the first apes generally come to be.

The general plot is to show how the apes become as smart as they end up ,(as we know from the older films), which in this case would be due to James Francos charecter trying to create some form of cure for alzheimer's , (being able to help the brain with learning functions etc). The drug works, and of course all hell breaks out in due course. With various things going on, (The apes breaking free from various forms on imprisonment etc) you get a real sense of how this is all going to pan out. This is all well and good until:

<-- click on 'spoiler' to show/hide the spoiler

The Main Ape shouts "NOOOOO!!" and later full on talks saying something like "I am home" in response to Francos charecter

    [close spoiler]

    ");document.close();

Which as much as it fits perfectly, and i enjoyed the film.......That was just flat out strange. Anyway, a great film with everything making as much sense as i suppose it can when it comes to Apes taking over the world. Also the additional little ending:

<-- click on 'spoiler' to show/hide the spoiler

When the airline pilot has become infected, and it sort of shows that he's spreading it about via his airline trips and so on

    [close spoiler]

    ");document.close();

Makes it even clearer how this would work on a grand scale.

Overall i would say amazing film, mostly one of the best from last year altogether and well worth a watch. I think i'll be buying it when possible, and on top of that look forward to sequels and so on.

    Great stuff, 9/10

  13. I'm sure i read mr silkin thought it could be a very long tie-in to the wrestler, as it'd be "veteran returns to win the gold". Once again, i love Jerry Lynn, but he should not of been anywhere near the main event in ROH at all.

Well, that was the rationale behind it, but to say it tanked would be a mild understatement.
Just seemed stupid at the time, Lynn hadent really done alot in a while anyway, let alone a few matches in ROH, but he went on to beat one of the longest reigning champions of all time, (did Nigel also have most defences also?), which maybe should of been Claudio back on one of the PPVs or Austin Aries by the time it came down to it.Was the lynn stuff what gabe / cary had an falling out over, hence the current DGUSA/ROH issue?
  14. So I was watching Royal Rumble 2002 just now and Rikishi gave the Big Bossman a stinkface. Now, did Rikishi actually rub his arse into the faces of the wrestlers every time he did the stinkface?

According to reports at the time, the "Depth" of the stinkface came from how well he liked you as a friend. The arse would always "make contact" with the victim, but if he didnt like you he would pull the pants right up and really rub it in there.

  15. Thought it only ever came out on arcade coin-op cabinet?

Are you thinking of the old RAW game on the 16 bit systems that had different rosters per console Boyo lad?

Probably, i was looking it up on wiki then and wrestlefest doesnt mention Savage at all! My mistake!

  16. How is it Demolition were in WrestleFest and Randy Savage wasn't?

Might be wrong but i think Savage may of been in one version of the game for a specific console (maybe one of the SEGA ones at the time?) and even then it may of been a non-playable charecter.

Will do a bit of research regarding the above!

  17. The reason that the belt was put on Lynn was literally that Silkin thought it would be a great idea. Gabeford disagreed, and that was one of the reasons why he got the boot in Oct 2008.

Kind of ironic that Hero got bounced for a failed roids test - the reason he went on them in the first place was presumably to give hima better chance of being accepted by WWE! That's old "Left Foot" Laurinitis for you

I'm sure i read mr silkin thought it could be a very long tie-in to the wrestler, as it'd be "veteran returns to win the gold". Once again, i love Jerry Lynn, but he should not of been anywhere near the main event in ROH at all.

Strange thing with Hero, i'd cant say if he was on steroids or not (and its not a knock on him but i would say not really), but again they must really want him to say "Ok you've failed the test, go home and come back again later when you feel better ;) ". Really Hoping he get the job done with WWE. I saw KOW last year live, and must say they really are pure amazing. Not sure if they'll have alot of freedom in WWE, but it'll be an easy tag title run for them when they get there!

  18. The usual at the expense of Hulkamania Fan. I asked the question to see whether it's the mod's job on here to lessen that stuff rather than to lead the goading themselves. No is the answer.

Something worth mentioning is that would he of completed said task, not only would he off been allowed to post on the forum for once (as he normally just talks bollocks for hours until he gets banned anyway), he would of been a complete legend for rapping (as well as signing off with "toilet side motha fuckers!!") , and i think some people would cut him some slack, if he then decieded to post in a normal fasion of course.

  19. Not sure how true it is, but I read somewhere Hero has WWE testing scheduled in February.

Aparently he failed his first test some time last year, and is being retested some time between now and feb. He failed due to "high testostrone" levels. Not 100% sure, but to me it show wwe are highley intested in having the KOW as a team or else they wouldnt bother retesting him surely?

  20. It just seems really stupid to me.

I never really saw the point the the Jerry Lynn Title run, i mean i get that they were trying a really small "The wrestler" style related title run (veteran wrestler takes the belt, IIRC thats what the idea was anyway), but to be honest if you look back further than that it may not of worked.

Tyler was "The next big thing" to the IWC, (well the ROH fans anyway), which has loads of them shouting "put the belt on Tyler" during his tag team in the AOTF, which wouldnt of work straight away as he hadent been about that long. Even after his fued with Jacobs was out of the way, he could of done with a few more high profile wins reall, (I think he lost to samoa joe which is sort of expected, around this time). Again not sure why Lynn won it, but they could of had Aries take it rather than Lynn building up to the eventual Tyler win. IIRC didnt the do some sort of screw job angle with Tyler where he didnt win it? As that seemed like that right time for a change, but it ended being that they had dragged it out to long (see also i think the Claudio potential title run many a year ago).

Whats the deal with Hero now anyway, i'm guessing hes only about until hopfully his wwe stuff works out?

  21. ROH has a bit of a habit having their champions lose multiple times before winning the belt though - I'm sure Black and Strong in particular, and to a lesser extent McGuinness, Dragon, Gibson and Homicide all lost multiple times before finally winning the big one...

There is nothing wrong in having multiple shots, but just make it Storyline related. Many of the guys would of have various shots, only to finally win it. For example Mcguinness won it after various shots, but whilst in a storyline with morishima (although again that was one or two shots to late i think in retrospect). Speaking of which, does anybody else think Claudio should of won the ROH title at some point (back in 2008 was it?).

Davey had lost various times to 2 former champions, before beating his tag partner after a direct challenge, which other than the actual wrestling factor, didnt really have any story/momentum to it. He should of been champion no doubt, just either should of had some momentum going in, a long running story line (looking back most likely agaisnt Roddy for giving him a concussion back at final battle and/or for taking the belt from tyler when he could not do so).

Edwards won it , (to me personally) in suprise sort of way. I said it earlier, i like Edwards, i think hes a great wrestler, but i didnt see him in the world title picture at all, and although i'm sure he may of won the ROH title at some other time i dont really see why he won it.

McGuinness winning the title in the October 2007 was set because ROH were originally planning a third UK tour that month. It was only when that tour fell through they instead organised the financially disastrous west coast tour and moved Nigel's win to the Edison PPV taping.

Fair enough, i just remeber at the time he'd had the big title match in Japan which although it was in japan, seemed like a good chance to give him the title. When he finally won it, it did seem a bit "......oh right, thats good then", rather than the huge news it should of been.

Its a shame that they never did come over again, although i remember ROH mentioning the UK fans should keep a looking for UK related news, before the TV deal was announced, so maybe in the future? Plus a Nigel Title win in the UK would of been pure amazing!
