  1. Well by "going strong" I mean "generally still running, and doesn't seem to show any signs of closing". They havent "kept up" with the likes of WWE , but I still like what they do.

And Yep, the "main" promotion would NWA Hollywood, as that has TV coverage, but otherwise the World championships are defended all over the US , and in other countries as/when booked via the NWA themselves. I believe NJPW is a member (or was until recently) and otherwise again they are doign sort of cross promotion fairly soon

  2. What is the NWA these days? Where is that title still contested? How many affiliates of / promotions under the banner of the NWA are there?

The NWA is what it's fairly always been, a governing body of smaller independent promotions, who recognition the NWA champions as the real world champions. The World title matches are contested within the affiliate promotions accordingly.

It's still going strong, (and has just had a change in management IIRC). The number of affiliates has also just changed because of this, but they still have a fair few in the US, as well as the odd few around the world (We have Hammerlock for the UK). I believe they are about to start some sort of big story with NJPW.

They currently have a site under nwawrestling.org although are moving to nwaringside.com fairly soon. They have links to Twitter/Facebook accordinly

    Hope that helps somewhat.

  3. TNA 10 PPV Spoilers:

SPOILER - Highlight the black box to read

TNA taped their "Ten" PPV tonight in Orlando, FL, celebrating the first ten years of the company with the following results:

*Kenny King defeated Petey Williams and Sonjay Dutt.

    *Velvet Sky pinned Gail Kim.

*Matt Morgan won a Gauntlet, tossing out Joseph Park to win.

*Team 3D defeated LAX and Bad Influence.

    *Jeff Hardy pinned Austin Aries.

    *Bobby Roode pinned James Storm.

    *Kurt Angle pinned Samoa Joe.

  4. ON TOPIC: I used to watch Ready Steady Cook with my Nan. Upon Ainsley Harriot touching anything.

Nan: "uggh look at his black hands in the food. Look at him sweating."

Off topic a bit in relation to the above:

My great-nan was very similar and would the above line. Although in her defense it was nothing to do with his skin colour, more that he really does touch the food waaay to much.

It was more of a cleanliness issue.

  5. Does anybody know of any decent sites based in the UK, that you can buy WWE shirts from? That also don't cost the earth?

With WWE now selling stuff direct from the states, the prices have suddenly gone crazy, with it working out slightly cheaper to get it from the states, but still coming in around

  6. My family is fairly tolerant, or so I mostly thought.

The whole ideology has never ever been an issue for me personally. Within the past 10+ years my mum has remarried to an awesome chap ,(who's family happen to originally be from Jamaica), who has really looked after my mum, and have had a child together as well, so I finally had a sibling after 16 years as an only child.

Its only ever little things, but other members of my family had said (out of ear shot of my mother) that my grandad would be going crazy, if was still alive. It always struck me as weird, as whilst you'd get the occasional line such like "lets pop down the paki shop", it wasn't really a issue that I'd personally heard from him as a child.

According to my actual dad, the overall "tolerance" thing seems to have taken about 4 generations to eventually work into our family. He mentioned to me that his grandfather was terrible for it, with the level of racism/homophobia you'd expect from a chap of that time. My dad's dad, whom is still alive and well, again is "OK" but the odd line slips out here and there, which again I always put down to the era he grew up in. My dad is reasonably good , but on occasion will say something not in an offense way, although is still slightly un-PC.

Then again coming back to me, it was never really pointed out to me that anybody who is different in skin colour, sexual preference or otherwise, was ever any different than myself, and as such I've never had any issues.

As a whole only until recently had I really seen first hand, anybody being really Racist. Some random guy started chatting to me in a bar a few years back, and starting banging on about people taking jobs, (Polish etc), but it soon escalated to "but you know who I really just HATE........them N..", and off he went on some crazy little rant about any body with a slightly dark skin colour. It was only when he'd finished, that I mentioned about my own family, to which he appeared to shit himself. He promptly left the bar soon afterwards. If anything I was to shocked to even bother having a go at him, and presumed one day he'll say something like that in ear shot of somebody who will take it out on him.

  7. You should of gone to Specsavers ;)

Whilst I may have just been mildly "whooshed"....

Is that just a bad joke generally poking fun a my clearly terrible eyesight and inability to read, in a generic elbow nudging way of trying to get an acceptable laugh, or my general over-use of the incorrect grammatical term "Should of", (as opposed to the correct Should've / Should have) ?

  8.

Just had a quick scan, and saw this:

The source admits that internal polling allegedly suggests that WWE fans are more interested in a CM Punk vs. Undertaker match than a John Cena vs. Rock rematch.

Now I'm not the biggest Cena fan, (not knocking him or anything), and admittedly I do like CM Punk more as a wrestler.

Story wise though, John Cena is the only person left, (whom hasnt challenged 'Taker), whom I could ever see winning a match. And of course if anything, It'd probably be a decent match as well.

As such I of course would LOVE to see a Cena/Taker match next year (or ever), and from what I've seen from this forum/other sites and from personal friends, many many others would rather see a Cena/Taker match as well.

  9. It's easy with Green Lantern because there are loads of different Green Lanterns so if he comes back or not it works either way. Plus there's a black Green Lantern & they've got to put a token black character on the team somehow!

On a slightly related note, during the one of the "development hell" stories I'd read is that actor/rapper "Common" was signed up to be the John Stewart version of the Green Lantern in a late 90's attempt at making a movie of Justice League.

I'm waiting on Man of Steel for now though! It looks amazing, and will probably be to focus of Warner Bros. if it makes a ton of money, which it will to be fair.

  10. lol. "Soilers". You're a soiler... of your pants.

Aaanyway. It doesn't need to follow the story of the comic, exactly or at all. Anyone could kill her, or she could just not die. Who knows, maybe we'll be lucky and get an incredibly dull love triangle taking up most of the film!

Whatever. I'm going to watch it regardless, especially so if Emma Stone is definitely in it.

    Ha, thanks for that!

And yeah, by all means they do "need" to do anything, I'm just saying I would personally prefer to see that as it'd be a good story to see. Regardless of anything really, it'll most likely end up being a bit "meh" like the first one.

  11. Great casting but do we need to see Green Goblin ( if they are going to introduce him as GG in this film) again so early? I know he's one of the most iconic villains for Spider-man but he was done very well in the previous films. Plus we also have Rhino and Electro in it. That's a lot of villains to get into one film.

I would presume it would be to set something up in the third movie, as Goblin in the next one would be slight overkill.

Spoilers from The Amazing Spider-man 1

For what its worth they had a Normon Osbourne shot (with out showing his face) in the end credits for the first movie.

    Also also:

We need to have the comic book related killing of Gwen Stacy.

IIRC correctly it is The goblin who kills her, thus causing Spider-man to go ape shit and kill the Goblin.

  12. I'm not "upset", it just reminded me of my friend who put up such a massive fight about seeing a movie, then he watched it and loved it. That was purely because it was "Star Trek"

I did misread the quote, as it looked like he was dismissing it purely on the basis that it was a superhero movie. I openly agree a lot of Super hero movies are pure piss, but many of them are also great.

    Again just me being picky.

  13. You're a funny guy. I like you. That's why i'm gonna kill you last.

Either i wasnt clear, or you jumped to conclusions. I didnt refuse to watch it, i was sat in front of a giant screen with booming audio and no distractions.

Fair enough, its just the way you mentioned:

I mentioned before I wasn't a huge fan of Superhero movies....

Followed by the line about reading your packet, I'm sure it was totally unintentional and just coincidentally timed, it just read that you'd given up on it "just because" it was a super hero movie.

Anyway, never mind, I just get bothered if some people refuse to watch something on the basis of it being a certain genre/type of movie , even though reviews/others say its very good.

It was just me being picky!

  14. Whilst you don't like Comic book movies Matrix, which is cool as a personal choice and everything, you sound like a right arse in the way you flat out refuse to even watch the trailer.

One of my best mates was exactly the same when the last Star Trek Movie came out. I had to force him to to watch it, saying it is nothing like what he thinks it'll be like. The entire time before and all the way into the cinema, i was getting an ear full about hows its "bloody star trek" and "it'll be shite". Only for him to come out saying, "That was good".

I'm sure nothing I say will change you're mind or anything, but at least try and watch some decent comic book movies, as to be fair some of them are good movies (as a whole) and not some random comic book job that is a bit hokey in some sort of way.

I agree though that Gerard Butler is not delivering anything like what has been promised in that movie.

  15. .

I'm impressed on your in-depth knowledge of Luke Gallows' TNA deal though. You should write for the Observer!

I was under the impression that although TNA's ratings are generally low, they are about as good, (if not better) than most things on SPIKE, hence why they are still there really.

With the Gallows things, i hadn't seen it reported he was a particular figure, but don't most new roster members get a "Pay per appearance" type deal that ranges from at least $200 per appearance? Depending on whats what, a lot of guys have said they can't live of anything like that. It only the top end guys who have some sort of official deal from TNA that allows them to commit.

  16. Anyone know what injuries Taker is actually carrying? If he's not healed with a full calendar year, you have to assume they are injuries that will never heal enough for him to work a proper match again.

IIRC he had some sort of shoulder surgery, and whilst he's mostly healed up, he's just not in good enough shape to compete.

  17. So, can I just ask how you all keep up with your Japanese wrestling if there are no commercial dvds to buy? Is it all dodgy downloading, or through iPPV like the recent Wrestle Kingdom? I got that one and nearly wet myself with excitement watching that three way

If it helps I keep up with DG via iheartdg.com and openthedragongate.com .

For New Japan I don't watch any of there stuff but check the results out via http://www.puroresufan.com/njpw/ . If it helps NJPW are about to start an official English language website!

Speaking of which is anybody can hook me up with Wrestle Kingdom 7, I'd appreciate it!
