  1. I've watched it out of dogged loyalty if nothing else, but I'd struggle to say I've enjoyed it. Like Rogue One, it feels to me by turns to be either Star Wars for people who are ashamed to like Star Wars or a tribute to other 70's sci fi but dressed in Imperial uniforms. Thankfully it's jettisoned Rogue One's constant barrage of 'Look! It's THAT GUY' Easter Eggs though.

I'm aware I'm very much an outlier but yeah, so far it's left me cold.

And I bet that bakery got fuck all upturn in business.

Punk as Fuck Phil wasn't exactly promoting a Mom 'n' Pop shop in the first  place! Mindy's is run by Mindy Segal, winner of the James Beard Award for America's Best Pastry Chef and owner of a thriving edibles company on top.

Wrestlings biggest boom period was everyone calling each other pieces of shit.

Yeah, but it wasn't a case of 'Steve Austin couldn't lace up Hillbilly Jim's boots' was it?

WWE has had this problem for years, you'd hope that it went out the door with Vince, but maybe not.

I jumped ahead on The Old Man. Jeff Bridges the younger is a great Jeff Bridges, those flashbacks are fantastic. The fight at the end of episode 1 was brilliant. I noticed Jon Watt directed those first two episodes, it’s time he took a step away from Marvel I think.

Not Jon Lithgow is also a tremendous Jon Lithgow! I just watched the first four episodes in a row and I'm properly loving it.

    I bloody love this show.

love that the wee hobbit girl is off on an adventure with a kindly old wizard, almost like it is foreshadowing future events.

Thank Christ, I was beginning to think I was the only one!

It was obvious where it was going beforehand but everything from 'Call it a gift' was delicious.

Despite the fucking hideous discourse around it, I've properly loved the last few episodes and genuinely can't wait for season 2.

I couldn't understand how or why this was embraced by the NME at the time considering the sort of stuff they were pushing in the 00s.

I just took it as they saw them as almost like a British version of Andrew WK who they seemed to love for ironic reasons.

I look at The Darkness as sort of a rock version of Al Murray's Pub Landlord. Some young people liked them because they were a seemingly ironic pastiche of Queen and stuff that your dad liked. Your dad liked it 'cos he didn't realise they were taking the piss.

I was never a fan but bizarrely can watch Justin Hawkins' YouTube channel for a surprising amount of time.

  7. The problem with bands like Hundred Reasons for me was that bands like Cave-In and Thursday were doing more exciting stuff around the same time. Also wherever there was a Hundred Reasons there also seemed to be the execrable Million Dead.

The good thing about Million Dead is that they at least had the good grace to disappear. The bad thing is that they left behind their singer to annoy us with his weird culty fans and posh boy does Billy Bragg cosplay act.

How long until he shifts all the blame onto the fans?

I mean he'd already had a moan about those nasty Newcastle fans, in an interview last weekend, so I fully expect it to be our fault by this afternoon but hey ho, never mind. I'm too busy watching 'That fella that got Bournemouth relegated' work wonders with 'Players who aren't good enough for the Premier League'!

Played Hand to Hand Wombat (from the Exploding Kittens guys) which is a silly blindfolded-build-hanoi-towers-but-one-of-you-us-a-traitor, you know the sort of thing. It's great silly fun as a break between other games with Among Us style voting.

Plus a few rounds of Dice Throne which is a dice 'em up with a snifter of deck building. Thought I would hate it but I want to buy all of the expansions right now. Lots of strategy but lots of luck in playing cards at just the right time if only the fucking dice would go your way.

Also, from what I can see they're being much more fair minded in their pricing. The Marvel sets cost the same as the regular sets. Unlike Unmatched where the Marvel tax is very much in effect. Heard Dice Throne described as Advanced King of Tokyo, which sounds fun to be fair.

Speaking of King of Tokyo, I was at Tabletop Gaming Live a few weeks ago (Lot of fun. Will go again!), and saw they were demoing King of Monster Island, a kind of co-op pseudo sequel. Didn't get the chance to play it but it looks lovely on the table and has gone right onto the Christmas list.

Also, as loathe as I am to siphon money into the pocket of Mike Ashley, the Game website was selling some stuff for ridiculous prices a couple weeks ago. Might be worth a look for a couple of bargains.

I decided to buy an original Xbox over the weekend. It's one console I never had growing up. What would you recommend?

    It came with a decent batch of games already;

      Reveal hidden contents

    Fifa 2003 & 2004

    Fifa Street 2

    Rallisport Challenge

    Conflict: Global Storm

    Mercenaries

    Fire Blade

    Return To Castle Wolfenstein

    Project Gotham Racing 1 & 2

    Juiced

    XIII

Splinter Cell & SC: Pandora Tomorrow

    Gun

    Sid Meiers Pirates

Rainbow Six: Black Arrow & Rainbow Six: Lockdown

    Black

    Vexxx

    LMA Manager 2005

    Forza Motorsport

    Tony Hawks Undergound

    Full Spectrum Warrior

There's a few there that I remember loving on the PS2, especially THUG, Black and Mercenaries, so I'm looking forwards to getting stuck into them. But are there any lessor-known games I should seek out?

    Crimson Skies.

    Amped 2.

    Quantum Redshift

    Fable.

The Microsoft Sports stuff was all really good at the time, I think it transitioned to being 2k. 3rd party wise Burnout 2 is one of my favourite games ever as is Beyond Good and Evil.

  11. When Cole was working on Network stuff he was ace. The first UK tournament he was a proper breath of fresh air. Really enthusiastic, really sharp on the call, actually able to concentrate. I mean they stuck him with Nigel McGuinness which didn't help, but Cole delivered his part admirably.

Everyone loves to slag off the Game of Thrones writers after the rubbish ending but I think between this, House of the Dragon and Wheel Of Time it's pretty clear that they actually in reality had a pretty good grasp on how to write fantasy so it's not just dour, charmless, overly serious, dull and silly.

There's a very real cut off point with GOT where the writing especially for Tyrion and Varys becomes atrocious and it's basically when they go past the books and aren't able to directly lift Martin's dialogue anymore.

They're damned either way with this, purely because Tolkien's dialogue in his own work is pretty much atrocious and as such any attempts to add fizz to this would feel inauthentic.

I think this is in fact Punk's POV. I don't remember which news site reported it, but they said they heard from people on Punk's side that he felt he was about to get a 3-on-1 beatdown so came out swinging.

And then he saw the 2 heads of HR and the head of legal, who is also ostensibly the VP of the company and realised he was on for a 6-on-1 beat down and just decided to go full Butch and Sundance!

Get to fuck. Absolute weak sauce.

    What an excellent dad.  Enjoy.

It actually went really well! We had a Klask tournament, a teams game of Drop it! (very good family game, bit Tetrissy) and Touch It (Kids card game, where you blind guess animals on cards using touch, funnily enough). What also down went really well was Don't Get Got which is kind of a secret missions game that you play over the course of a party/evening. Naturally they were all super subtle and stealthy and a complex game of cat and mouse ensued. Did it fuck! They just straight up asked each other to do what they needed on their cards. They had fun though, so job done.

I can heartily recommend Good Time Games in West Didsbury for this sort of thing.

I just don’t know what to believe anymore.

Isn't that supposed to be the point?

In my head this is Punk Vs All Friends Wrestling, Carny Man Punk Vs The Gratitude Era. I just think this is the next phase of the story story they've been telling since the beginning. We knew he'd be turning eventually, we know he's an actual Bad Knob Head. This is them dropping the other shoe. This is how we get to Punk Vs Kenny eventually. In my head at least. I'm more than ready to eat shit on this though!
