This doesn't qualify as cool, but I had vague fever dream memories of this. As someone whose childhood was built on early 90's WWF and the original Transformers movie, this may qualify as one of the worst things I've ever seen. Skip to about 40 seconds in.

That's one of the reasons this weekend was so shocking to be honest. If this was a work, it's in shocking taste, especially since it's not a kick in the arse away from the Mysterio/ Perro incident.

Remember watching Jack take a powerbomb from inside the ring straight to the floor in ROH well over 10 years ago. One of the gnarliest things I've ever seen. If he has taken a bad one, it's awful, but I'm surprised it didn't happen years ago.

I haven't seen the twitter stuff with Drake. I've just taken him as the perfect heel for Progress mostly because of the complete antipathy he has for the crowd.

In a company where the fans see themselves as a huge part of the show I can't think of a better villain than someone who just refuses to engage them at all.

From listening to Smallman's podcast he's doing exactly what they want and getting the response they want as well.

I think Orton is a good comparison, really methodical, eminently dislikeable and crisp as anything. Orton's problem is that they've tried to pass him off as a face over the years which has never worked.

I can't see Progress doing that with Drake. In all honesty I think they're building him for Haskins. When someone eventually fires up and gets some back and forth out of him I think the crowd will pop huge and Haskins to me is Progress' quintessential fiery babyface.

The James Drake hate amuses me. The Progress Fan Facebook page is full of, 'I don't get James Drake, he doesn't do high spots and he doesn't jaw at the crowd!'

He's getting his heat, you're not supposed to think he's a cool guy, he's there to stop your favourites popping you. He's doing a bloody good job as well.

The funniest thing to me, is that a lot of the people who 'don't get' Drake lose their shit over Haskins who is basically Generic Grunge Babyface whilst Drake is Generic Grunge Heel. I'm a fan of both guys but the disparity amongst the fans is hilarious.

I suppose a big problem is that no one in Progress has really had proper heel heat in the last year. Marty did as much to pop the crowd as a babyface would and even Gibson who gets the shit booed out of him, gets it in a tongue in cheek, 'We're booing the panto villain' way.

His match with Scurll in Progress last year was an absolute belter. Actually all his work in Progress last year was stellar.

I'm not sure he's a 3 minute TV match worker, but he's genuinely one of the most versatile and believable wrestlers I've seen, live or otherwise.

But yeah,tuck out the jersey.

Any danger of any new faces? Or even the good guys they've got being used well?

 

 

Big Bang Theory. Shows where the characters are so well thought out

Lucha Underground? Vinny Ru likes it.

You can't accuse it of having 'just wrestlers' either. Although they do actual in ring moves and not one of the characters is Scottish last I checked.

So what do you want your characters to be, realistic or larger than life?

Do you want them to be complex or crudely drawn cartoons? You go on about all the great characters of the 80's and 90's but if we're honest you're looking at them through the lens of nostalgia.

My daughter will always have an affinity for Peppa Pig or Skye from Paw Patrol, but it's not like they're Shakespearean figures. Neither is the Big Bossman.

Conversely you dismiss one of the most well drawn characters in wrestling in years as a fat waste of space or 'just a wrestler'.

I don't think Blake and Murphy ever got the respect they deserve either, although I do think Murphy on his own is well worth a shot, he looked excellent against Ibushi although y'know, Ibushi.

Rumour went around a couple weeks ago that they're repackaging Blake and Murphy as a team again though.

I love Buddy Murphy. Really crisp, really good look, strong, fast, it's a crime they haven't found anything for him.

I don't mind Gulak, he's an old fashioned heel. His gear makes my eyes sad, but I figure that's part of the gimmick.

Really fun show today. The first half shot past. Really good fun. The second half wasn't quite so much fun, mostly due to the Atlas match slowing the pace down after the tag triple threat.

The main event took its time to get going but finished well.

If such a thing is possible, I think Gibson might be too over as a heel in Progress, certainly in Manchester. The first half of the match was basically Gibson vs the crowd, which felt like it hurt Haskins a bit getting over.

If Vince was hands on with NXT Moss and Sabbatelli would be getting pushed to the moon!

There still feels to me like there's something missing with TM61. I think it's just that Thorne appears so much better than Miller.

God I wish they'd give Buddy Murphy some character! I really rate him, but they just don't seem bothered

Didn't know if I liked the idea of Nakamura as avenging, brawling badass but he looked cool as fuck!

With regards to Sanity, I like Nikki Cross as the almost feral member but Wolfe and, especially, Fulton don't convince quite yet.

It's a horrible looking botch. Riddick Moss powerslams him right onto his head. Moss is a bag lad as well.

I don't know whether TM61 need new ring gear or something but there does seem to be something needed.

The problem for me is that in a tag team setting Shane Thorne just looks streets ahead of Nick Miller.

I've seen a couple of singles matches by both though and they're both pretty tidy.
