  1. I like the Dark Order stuff.

When they debuted, everyone complained there wasn't enough depth to their gimmick. Now they've been away from the ring for a bit, "recruiting" through really well put together videos, firstly focusing on randoms, and now 'jobbers'. Why not? Why not recruit? It'll be a long run game, and hopefully the recruits will replace creepers instead of adding to them, but having a stable of decent wrestlers around the 2 central focus guys doesn't sound bad at all. Almost like the Ministry type thing. I'd even take the cult members doing run-ins. It'll make perfect sense. Otherwise, what are they recruiting for? It's all about the eventual success of Uno and Grayson.

My only gripe with the Brandi stuff is that it's just another cult-type group in the making. If it keeps Brandi out of the ring for a while, that's a plus, but does it have to have the cult stuff? Head shaving and whatnot? It should simply be the female equivelant to the Inner Circle, with Brandi calling the shots.

Adam Page needed to get over more before turning heel. I've never seen him work heel before, so that'll be interesting, but he might have to change his style a little bit to make it work. My biggest issue with AEW right now is the same spots done by heels and faces. I don't want to see a heel do a dive. I want to pop when a face dives, because that's what's supposed to happen. Their agents aren't doing enough to make it all make sense.

What qualifies her to do any kind of wrestling broadcast job? They need to stop with hire a friend practices.

This is Lexy? To be fair, she did a good job, in my opinion. And she's alright to look at, which I assume is the reason she got hired (aside from being DDP's daughter, in need of a job, obviously).

Thought they were doing 4 a year? With a few "specials" like FFTF and Fyter Fest thrown in there?

I think that was the word going around. I think Tony Khan may have said it in an interview. But the line between PPV and "specials" is surely blurred? Just because the USA market aren't paying to see it, doesn't mean a special won't be treated just as much like a PPV event.

What is a strike down and what's a foul?

I'd assume a strikedown is a strike that knocks an opponent to the ground, like a big punch, or a super kick. Not sure if it'll include clotheslines, but if I was counting, I'd include them.

A foul? I'd guess at any time a team is admonished by the referee.

This is the kind of stats I was hoping AEW would put forward, and I'm sure it was mentioned earlier in the thread. There's something very real about seeing how many strikes or takedowns were performed by a certain wrestler, and how that helped them to win matches, and then tally that up with the defensive side of things from their next opponent, like a Tale of the Tape on steroids.

So you genuinely think they should be doing matches like that on Dark rather than saving them for PPV?

Yes. Because for one, Omega vs Janela isn't exactly a big match. Janela isn't exactly a huge name, like Moxley, Omega, PAC etc. Would I be excited about an Omega vs Janela match on PPV? Probably not, because it doesn't appeal to me as a match I'd pay a PPV fee to watch.

If you're doing it to further Omega's journey into hardcore wrestling, in a preparation to face Moxley, it can go anywhere. If they want to boost their YouTube views by putting it on Dark, why not do it? The Moxley/Omega part had already played out on TV, and then Omega goes out to prove himself in a Moxley-match situation.

Let's not get carried away and start thinking they're going to be putting Cody vs Jericho on Dark. That's a PPV match.

I like the idea of Omega wanting to fight Janela to prove his hardcore credentials against Jon Moxley, but I shouldn't have to have that explained to me after the match has taken place. Put the set-up on TV. It would have taken twenty seconds of promo time.

I completely agree with this, and it needs to be followed up on tonight's Dynamite. Fact is, I was watching it, forming the idea of why the match was happening, as it went along, and you're right, we shouldn't have to do that.

  6. Just finished 'Dark', and whilst the first two matches didn't do much for me (don't get me wrong, they were good, just nothing amazing), the Omega/Janela match was fantastic.

It made perfect sense, to me, in both the chosen opponent and having it on Dark.

    1. Moxley showed AEW what he was about, in an unsanctioned match with Janela. Omega, clearly going down the "if you want hardcore, I can be hardcore" road, decides he's going to face Janela also, unsanctioned. He then goes on to have probably a better match than the Janela/Moxley match, picks up a win that doesn't affect anyone's W/L, but puts him in a position where he could have a fantastic hardcore style match with Moxley.

    2. Putting this match on Dark made sense from an "anything can happen" perspective, puts more eyes on the YouTube show, puts the show over as being just as important to view as Dynamite, Plus, being unsanctioned, it has less of a place on the TV show (I'm aware Moxley vs Janela was on FyterFest, but that was pre-TV).

It'll be interesting to see which stipulations they put on the Omega/Moxley match.

Brief interview with David Lagana on the build up to the Powerrr tapings.

Minor spoilers included but it answers the question regarding what these tapings are initially building towards. (Though I was sure it was already public knowledge)

For those of us unable to listen, could you perhaps tell us what the tapings are initially building towards?

I didn’t think his promo on dynamite sucked either.

    You're joking, surely?

You met him, great. He's a nice bloke (I've heard that too), great. But that doesn't mean you have to wear rose tinted glasses and praise his absolutely awful performances.

Please go back and watch the promo again. Then please tell me why it didn't suck.

  9. Something like that, yeah. It still didn't make a ton of sense, but when Havoc vs Allin was announced as a No.1 contenders match, Cody went to Twitter to explain that because Allin went the distance with him, and beat CIMA, he's in, and because Havoc won the Cracker Barrel Brawl, he's in.

So yeah, quality of opponent works into it, but it still doesn't make sense to me. PAC beat Omega and Page. How are they not far bigger wins?

Something occurs: surely they can't have the MJF turn on Cody go exactly as people think it will? We've all seen it coming, MJF's even talked about it in promos - it would make Cody and everyone around him look like the biggest mug since Sting if he ended up getting blindsided.

Absolutely this. Let it go on a long time. They'll tease it like crazy, and then hopefully stop teasing it but keep MJF as a heel, and then 2 years down the line, boom.

  11. I really enjoyed it. For the most part, I turned WWE off a few years ago, only really keeping up through 'dirtsheets' and occasional highlights, if I hear something good happened. My enjoyment of AEW is probably based on "It's not WWE, and it's the format of wrestling I grew up watching", but that's fine, because in my opinion, what AEW are putting out is mostly good.

I liked Private Party vs. Young Bucks, for what it was. It was a spotfest, with the usual YB spots mixed up a little and worked into the match in different ways (I'm so sure they'll suffer from being overexposed on TV weekly), and Private Party getting over well. For me, they lack any real personality, and that's a massive downer if you're....Private Party. The mulitple dives by Marq Quen were sloppy and a bit rushed. The SSP was beautiful and that's where it should have ended. Gotta protect the Bucks, though, right?

Jericho's promo was fantastic. Everything it needed to be. Reminded me of the introduction to Evolution. I wonder if the fans will stop with the 'We The People' chant, after Jericho's comment? He definitely stopped them in their tracks last night. I've been a fan of Guevara since I saw his quick shot in Lucha Underground. I think he's great, and his smug heel persona is great. I've had very little exposure to Ortiz/Santana, but they seem like a decent team, and contrary to most opinion, I'm excited about seeing what they can do with Hager. In my opinon, he was good in Lucha Underground, underutilised in WWE, and could be turned into someone worth tuning in for, and I expect Jericho will be the catalyst for that to happen.

Oh my God, I hate Jimmy Havoc. He's absolutely dreadful. That promo during his entrance was awful, he fails to make me believe in anything he does, and he looks shit. Darby comes across as actually quite mental, and has a bit of personality to go with it. Solid in the ring, and was the right choice to go over. Although there's no way he beats Jericho next week, I'm excited about the match.

I love Riho. I like Baker. I hadn't heard of Emi Sukura until last night, and I'm ok with that. I don't understand the Bea Priestley hype, I think she's awful. I'm very much in agreement with the general opinion here, that the women's division needs a lot of work. Riho vs Baker next week, for the title, should be a good match, but youre guaranteed Priestley involvement, and that makes me sad.

Ringside interviews with wrestlers, yes please. I like it. Keeps the show in front of the crowd. I will admit, I didn't 'get' Orange Cassidy to begin with, but he's great.

Moxley vs Spears was good, for what it was. I've always liked Spears, and felt he deserved more, and hopefully he'll have a run with AEW worth talking about. It was a standard Moxley showing, wasn't it? Nothing special.
I liked Kenny's inclusion with the weapons at the end. Very much a "I'm happy to do this in your world" kinda deal, after the coffee table spot. I think a lot of the problem people are having with Kenny right now is that he's a long match, long story guy. He's come out of a years long stretch at NJPW, and without a doubt, had some of the best matches ever, but these are 40-60 minute matches, where the entire story is told in the ring. AEW presents a very different approach, and you can't expect to see 'World's Best Wrestler' Omega putting on the world's best performances on a 2-hour show on TNT, or a 20 minute match with PAC on PPV. Give him time, and freedom, and you'll see something special.
Hopefully they get his character in order, and he can show off just a little.

The tag match main event was good, but not great...basic, I guess, is the right word. Hangman failed to show any real 'main event' promise, which is disappointing, but Dustin was standout the best man in the ring. Echoing other statements, Jericho vs Dustin, please. Hager getting involved on the outside gets the stable over as a unit.
The postmatch brawl is very much building to a Inner Circle vs Cody/Dustin/Hangman/Bucks match (I like the exclusion of MJF. He's a heel, why would he want to help anyone but Cody, his best friend?). It did the job. Everyone who got involved had a bit to do. The lights off/on, Cody bit didn't really need to happen, it wasn't all that shocking, Cody was always going to get involved. That said, it didn't do any harm, either.

Christ that four way tag on Dark was dreadful just spots for the sake of spots

Then again I feel like I’m on an island on my own with these matches

Thought Riho vs Nyla was the best match on Dynamite by far

The 8-man tag? I agree. Didn't do much to further anything at all, other than feature a few teams from the tag tournament.

Thoroughly enjoyed Allin/CIMA. I thought the women's tag match was decent. The 6-man tag was good...I just hate Stunt and don't see why he's been paired with Jungle Boy and Luchasauras.

Or, to put it another way, a 'bunch of developmental guys' came close to the same ratings as AEW.... ;)

I would say they're "developmental guys". Didn't HHH suggest it's now the "third brand"? Guys like Finn Balor are surely not being labelled "developmental"?

Thing is though, compare it with the alternative and NXT wins round 1 - better matches, more drama, cooler style IMO.

I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to embedding tweets in a forum post, but early reports suggest AEW did 0.7 and NXT did 0.5 in the overnight Nielsen ratings.

So actually, AEW wins round 1.

On the surface, I feel like moving Cole away from Raw will be super refreshing but I suspect someone will just take his place as senior shouter-of-catchphrases. It’s a fucking killer the way the announcers have to repeat the same lifeless, inauthentic lines throughout the show. It couldn’t feel more fake.

    *Viking Raiders music hits*

”ARE YOU READY TO JOIN THE RAID?!”

That was only ever good when Tazz used to say "well...here comes the pain!" when Lesnar came out.

I don't think any top babyface has ever done the screaming in fear reaction every time they see the baddie. It's a good thing for Bray, but it does Rollins no favours at all.

But does it damage Rollins? I don't think it does. In a year, when he's talking it big in the ring, no-one is gonna be saying "yeah but remember when you were scared?"
