  1. I really don't understand why people were so distracted by Cody's tattoo. I know it's an awful piece of ink, poorly done it seems, but it wasn't so bad that it distracted me from the match itself.Ā

Downstait were so bad, though. Really terrible. But it distracted from the usual over the top Cody entrance that I'm normally critical of (I just don't feel like his entrance should be bigger or more spectacular than the champion. He's booked himself as an upper midcard act but has the biggest and most elaborate entrance going.Ā

Depends how it's done. If it's done in a smarmy show-off 'I'm better than you' way then it can work really well. PAC is a good example of having a high flying moveset without it appearing too pandering to a crowd.

I'll agree with that. And you're right, PAC is a great example. But to counter...Ortiz and Santana, doing it for lolz? It's just unnecessary. The Undertaker said "Just because you can, doesn't mean you should".

In a time when WWE are signing more talent than ever before and trying to lock down everyone with name recognition they can't be bothered with Matt. That's very odd

I don't think they didn't try. There was a report saying he'd been offered a chance to go and work with NXT, whether in ring or backstage I'm not sure. They've definitely thrown offers at him, but he's said it's not what he wants creatively.

Excalibur's over the top scream of "Ā topĆ© suicida" every time it's performed.

    Ā

Swap out Excalibur for "almost all commentators nowadays" and "topĆ© suicida" with any combination of "topĆ©....something" and you're absolutely right.Ā

Especially when it's done 5 times in the first couple of matches, or repeatedly on weekly TV. It has lost all impact.Ā

Whilst on the subject of dives...Heels doing dives. Stop it.Ā

It's not like she's the first ref to ever have a presence or personality though. That's often by design. Hebner, Little Naitch etc.

Of course, but it doesn't have to be that way all the time... Pick your spot. Aubrey ejecting the Inner Circle was a great time to go over the top, get a pop and a chant. The wrestling, otherwise, should be the focal point.

  6. Aubrey does have a bit too much of a presence. I think she's enjoying the pops too much to just want to be the referee, and deliberately over-does things to get the reaction.Ā

    Remsburg can fuck off.

Rick Knox is top dog in the ref shirt.

The big difference here is that we haven't been told constantly that Pentagon is the best wrestler in the world.Ā

Perhaps not, but the situation is the same. Omega isn't living up to his hype. Neither is Pentagon. Both because of what they've done outside of AEW and how it differs to their current performances.

None at all - AEW Pentagon is the only Pentagon I know (and I canā€™t be the only one).

This is surely the Kenny Omega effect? What you're seeing is an AEW Pentagon, which is far away from what he has been and could still be. His stuff in Lucha Underground was immense, and he was easily the top star of the entire show.Ā

Maybe it's better that you don't know that Pentagon, so that when he does bring that out, it's fresh for you?

    What's he done?

I saw a bit of the XFL yesterday. There was an interception. The returner took his helmet off to celebrate and got his team a 15 yard penalty. Possession gained, but field position lost. He was immediately interviewed on the side-lines. No mention of the penalty was made. Which came across a little weird.

He was talking smack about his coaching team, essentially. The interviewer asked him what needed to change for the 2nd half and he basically said "Everything needs to change" but it was more directed at the coaching.Ā

That 15yd penalty was because he removed his helmet AND threw the ball into the crowd. I'm not sure the removal of the helmet was the reason for the penalty, because Houston WR Phillips took his off to celebrate each of his 3 TDs last night.Ā

What I am noticing is that some players just don't want to be interviewed, and make it very clear. Some do, and clearly enjoy it, but I think they might tone down the interviews. I think they should just get a list of guys who are happy to be interviewed and only bother them.

Saw on Twitter that Cody Hall has been pulled from a tour of Japan after calling corona virus ā€œYellow Feverā€. #Banter.Ā

It was more that a fellow wrestler had announced he was dating an Eastern Asian girl and Hall said something along the lines of "forget Coronavirus, he's got Yellow Fever".

    I thought it was funny.

He said that did he? Ā In a video package on tv?

"Please, nobody mention my famous Dad, Luke Perry. Ā I just want to be me, not famous Hollywood actor Luke Perry's son."

Pretty much. In a video package, on the Road To The Bahamas YouTube video, just after the 7:40 mark.

He talks about how he wants to be as far away from the Hollywood kid image as he can be, and succeed or fail on his own merit.Ā

I assume that's why he's 'Jungle Boy', and not 'Jack Perry'. No matter how much JR pushes it.

They brought in the rest of the Perry family that one week too, I'd say they're now 100% going in that direction with him.

Which is odd because in his video package he said he didn't want to be known as the Hollywood golden boy, Luke Perry's son...and that he wanted his own path etc.

The fact that most of the discussion in this thread since Thursday has been about Raw probably means Iā€™m on the right lines when I thought that was a poor episode of Dynamite, with a good main event.

Itā€™s been talked about a little bit but Kenny Omega. If he had gone to WWE and been portrayed in exactly the same way as he is in AEW thereā€™d have been outrage. Mount Demwan would have erupted and spewed everywhere. I thought Kenny Omega was meant to be the best wrestler on the planet. Why is he fucking about in the opening spotfest? I know it was fun as spotfests go, I know thereā€™s a storyĀ brewing with him and Page, but it is bringing Omega down to a level someone with his ability should never be at. Former ā€˜best in the worldsā€™ like Benoit and Angle werenā€™t always the main event, but they always came across as people who knew they were the best. Omega in AEW, to me, is more ā€œhey, IĀ couldĀ be the best, but look how muchĀ funĀ Iā€™m having insteadā€. Iā€™m annoyed by it and Iā€™m not even a huge Kenny fan, I donā€™t get why more people donā€™t feel the same.

Kenny spoke to Sports Illustrated and saidĀ

"There are certain things that Iā€™m still easing into, myself. Itā€™s a different role in a universe with a different set of rules. Iā€™ve purposely taken a backseat as an actor/performer. I wouldnā€™t say a back backseat, but Iā€™m not at the forefront, which I think was an expectation from peopleā€“and Iā€™m happy to be that way because I think we have so many stars that deserve a chance to show what theyā€™ve gotā€.

I guess he just doesn't feel the need to be the Kenny Omega we saw in Japan. And I get that, I think. He's been busting his ass for years, having high impact, long, great matches, and now he's got a great gig with AEW, where he can sit back a little, rack in some money, still put on a good match, and help guys like Adam Page shine.

I haven't watched this week's show yet so my earlier point may be a bit outdated.Ā

But some of those tag matches since Dynamite's debut have been appalling, meaninglessĀ spot fests, so I sincerely hope that is the case.

Sorry. You're out of luck there.Ā

But there is a bit of story in the match, with Page/The Elite.

Yeah, I've found it unwatchable. Super choppy. The Japanese stream is fine, but I'd much rather watch it with English commentary. Hopefully they fix it soon.

EDIT: I ended up just opening two tabs, the Japanese and English streams, synching the timings so I can watch the Japanese video and the English audio.

I've found a small improvement by tapping High Quality (wasn't aware it wasn't already the HQ stream). Kinda just powering through.Ā

    Nice solution though.
