  2. My Mum & I have been trying to find a new chippy as the one we had been going to seems to have taken a bit of a dip in quality. We had one recommended that we're possibly going to try on Friday night where they serve something called a "Yabbadabba" I have a suspicion that it's some kind of battered burger/dab (Scollop) gestalt. I may enquire if we do end up going. They do John Bulls as well. Always a treat.

  3. New Justice single just arrived on Spotify. The video is on Yourtube as well. The single is called One Night/All Night and features Tame Impala. It reminds me of D.A.N.C.E. The b-side is Generator, which is a little like Genesis. Also, the new album, Hyperdrama, is out on April 26th. It sounds like they're bringing back a bit of that Cross sound.

I expect there will be commercial breaks, because - for broadcasters - that's a huge part of the appeal of live TV, and Netflix is desperate for money. Netflix are already expanding their advertising options, and I wouldn't be surprised if RAW runs with ads even if you're not on the cheaper, "ad-supported" subscription, because it's a live show that sort of requires regular breaks, and I expect Netflix (and other broadcasters) will be thinking that viewers will be more likely to accept the presence of ad breaks in genuine live TV over as-live or on-demand content.

It's a huge shift, but I think a bigger one for Netflix than WWE in the long-term.

I wonder whether they'll employ picture in picture? If the whole Network ends up on Netflix I'd be cool with it. I'd finally bin off my WWE Network subscription and probably go to a higher tier if Netflix so my mum can watch it as well. Or I'd bin off the network and subscribe to TNA's thing again.

My memory of Virtua Racing is playing it in a huge sit down motion cabinet. Which was an incredible experience. I can't help but think that even a quality conversion. Will be a disappointment on a handheld device.

@jazzygeofferz what does the home version offer over the arcade game?

It now runs in 1080p (720p in handheld mode) at 60FPS, the graphics have been cleaned up so the shadows etc don't look as patchy as they did in the arcade, and it has simultaneous 8-player offline or 2 player online racing. The experience isn't quite the same as that huge cabinet unless you've got the right peripherals, but it looks, sounds and plays like a dream. Definitely the best way to play Virtua Racing at home now. I remember owning it on Megadrive (a technical marvel(, 32X (more cars and tracks), and Saturn (a really weird port). The excellent Digital Foundry have a video explaining the differences between every version. I'd been playing Big Shot Racing (which is fine), and Formula Retro Racing (better, but still not quite there) to try and scratch my Virtua itch, but none of them measure up to the original.

  6. Virtua Racing is far too low on that list. I've been playing the brilliant port by M2 on my Switch, and it's fantastic. Mind you, that's most of M2's ports for you. I wish they'd pop their Streets Of Rsge collection on there that was on PS3/XBox 360.

EDIT: The D-pads on those Atari controllers both look horrible.

I've watched both episodes now and I'm really enjoying it but something felt like it was missing on the new version and I couldn't figure out what until watching Duel and it dawned on me. The new event music is ominous, sort of like a heartbeat. Compare it to the original which sounds more like final boss music, like you'd hear it as Van Damme or Schwarzenegger are about to storm the big baddie's compound.

Watch this clip of Shadow. The music makes the whole thing seem like a massive deal, like there's no way you're going to beat this giant but you're pumped up and want the contender to do well.

Somebody has dubbed the old music over the new show and fuck me, how much better is this.

That same YouTube channel has dubbed the original music on to the new Hang Tough and Eliminator and they're both so much better for it.

I was gutted that they didn't have the same music for the games. They definitely add to the intensity of the games. Filming Duel from ground level makes it feel more intense as well. They look higher up.

I saw something as I was buying a certain redtop rag that shall not be named that the most important thing in the world happening is that Giant had been talking about taking his vitamins, to coin a Hoganism. Hopefully it's unfounded, or he was ill once and the Doctor prescribed steroids.

I agree with ht elack of a real heel amongst the lads, but I think it also took a while for those characters to emerge in the original series. Kudos to them for trying, but it does feel a bit forced. They need heel woman Gladiators as well, that'd be good. I also wish they'd used Phantom by Justice for Phantom the gladiator's music.

Still enjoying the show. I agree that Bradley and Barney are poor presenting choices. Lauren Layfield could have been a good choice to present. Is Melanie Sykes busy?

  8. What a match. Presumably the rubber match goes down at Bound For Glory or Slammiversary.

Nemeth's promo was alright. I like that he didn't open the TNA era with one of those "I was overlooked where I am, and I'm here to prove I should have had the opportunities" sour grapes promos that all the ex WWE guys used to cut. The future is looking pretty bright.

Just look at the Savoy in Heaton Moor.

I always regret going there when I lived in Heaton Mersey. I remember at one point there were plans to close it and turn it into a Barracuda. I'm so glad it was saved.

The Grand in Clitheroe used to be a cinema, and it was a proper old school one. I saw Titanic there in my teens, and Congo as well. Even in the late 90s they had a lady that went round selling popcorn, cans of pop, those little tubs of ice cream etc, and an interval. It was such a great experience.

It's just a general venue now, but a good one. I went to see Brian Blessed there years ago, and the whole way through rather than sitting on the stage he was stood in the aisle next to where I was sat, kept putting his hand on my shoulder and talking directly to me. It was such an experience. He even acknowledged me afterwards when I asked him to sign my ticket. It's a shame he's a Tory.

Old people are hard wired to hop aboard a bus and are drawn to the familiar scent of death. She had no choice.

Wonderful story though. Seething British muttering, failure to read a room, a chippy involved. You’ve really understood the assignment with that one.

When we went to my mum's second husband's funeral his brother was sat on the back row of the crematorium muttering under his breath the whole way through. For some reason the friend who'd organised the funeral used that "in the arms of the angels" song they used to have on that animal welfare advert. He never used to like that kind of stuff, we thought it would have been something by Meatloaf.

What do we reckon would've been the most inappropriate song to sing?

Off the top of my head, something completely the opposite to a death, Dancing Queen or something.

Alive & Kicking by Simple Minds?

  12. Nice little piece in this morning's i about it, and they got 6 million viewers, which is pretty good numbers in today's landscape. I don't know whether that includes on demand views, and I'm sorry for the boring ratings talk, but it's certainly encouraging, and I'll be watching again.

female broadcaster and useless male sportsman. I can only assume Jermaine Jenas was busy.

    Carol Kirkwood and Micah Richards.

  14. Matt Morgan was an American Gladiator as well. Would it be possible to transfer the Gladiators related chat into this thread somehow? I used to love watching this back in the day. One of my friends used to work with series 1 champion Eunice Huthart at Debenham's when she presumably got too old to be a stunt lady any more.

They new BBC version gets some of it right, but other bits so wrong.
