England shirt is gorgeous the more I see it. So tempted to get one.

Nike have had a shocker with some of the others though.

    Central badge! Boooooooo.

    spacer.png

    Absolutely horrific.

I like the Norway one. Central badges can look really good or really shit. Celtic had one a couple of years ago and it was too low and ruined a good shirt. The Brazil one looks weird with the tick not central and again too low. The Norway one works well, especially with the blue middle.

  2. I've told my 5 year old he can have a Scotland kit. Need advice, he's 5 and the sizes are 5/6 or 7/8. The latter will be too big but worried the former won't fit long. Anybody know how big Adidas kids kits are?

  3. She really seems to have gone past the point where she can claim she is just supporting women's rights (I'm not saying some women's concerns about things about understanding the difference of growing up female in a male dominated society aren't reasonable), but it seems like a cover up excuse a lot of the time. I often wonder why a lot of celebrities seem to view themselves as the voice of reason. A confidence or arrogance from being successful and wealthy possibly. I can understand if they are making jokes about society, as with a comedian, but in general celebrities should just shut their cake hole especially if they know their views will be divisive.

  4. Not sure which one I'll get, probably the home but I like them both a lot. The last home kit was decent enough but bland, the away kit was pretty poor. These ones stand out, look different. I think the home reminds me of Euro 96 without directly copying it and giving a much more modern vibe to it. Some of the old gits are moaning on twitter but they wouldn't buy one anyway.

  5. Barrett probably could have been more, he may not have been the next big thing but he could have main evented some of the smaller PPVs and been credible. Him being a commentator is probably quite good for him, he is quite good on the mic and am sure he does well and doesn't have to take bumps. Bet he loves it.

That's insane. Paying somebody four times the amount they're already paying someone on their staff, essentially five times the expenditure, really does sound like someone's on the grift.

Some of them have been working for the council for a decade, they are essentially employees being paid out of a different budget and they don't have to declare them (they have to declare all staff on over 100k but they aren't "staff"). It's dodgy as fuck. It seems like people helping out their mates or possibly backhanders.

    Most certainly not.

One, if not both, of two things:

    1. It's the same old Tory free-market/privatisation dogma rearing its ugly head again.

    2. Someone's getting a back margin for bringing in the private consultants.

We're a labour council, I'm surprised they are being allowed to bring them in. The view at local level is usually Conservatives like consultants, Labour see them as a waste and trust council officers.

Forgot to add to my post, someone found out his day rate and we would drop the figure into conversations in a very shoehorned way, which REALLY pissed him off 😆

I found out how much a consultant is earning just from working on my service, 4 times my salary, and they do other projects so probably earn 6-8 times my salary. Honestly turns my stomach. A waste of public money.

  8. "Warning-Rant"

So, as I think I mentioned before I work for a council. They do this regular thing where they want to introduce a better "culture". We get a meeting on it, what peoples feedback were, obviously they concentrated on positive and ignored the negative feedback (or quickly went through it) one of which was micro management. The following fucking day the same person giving the meeting puts in a policy that any emails sent to the councillor have to have her (she's the Director for Environment) and her boss in. I usually email them because they ask me a question. Feels like spying and watching every move we do.

We are also doing a tender for a £1bn contract (over the course of about 15 years). 4 guys on my service have a total of 80 years experience, and our sister team who we are tendering with have about 40 in their management team. Then our head of service has about 30. The Director has instead brought consultants in, fucking expensive ones, to write the bid instead of us. The Head of Service has said fuck it, let them blow the money and let them take the fall. We've still got 3.5 years til the contract runs out and we expect them to see consultant failure within 6. But I think it shows such a lack of trust that we know what we are doing. We still have 5 people on the team who wrote the last one and it's classed as one of the council's most successful contracts, our contractors Head of Service is going to Belgium to give a presentation to branches of the company from all over Europe to show a successful contract. Surely these people can't be that bad at it.

  9. For me it's a whole host of guys in WCW. In 99 you had Hogan, Flair, Nash, Sting and Macho Man still headlining regularly. None of them seemed arsed. Bischoff protected his mates though.

Raven, his gimmick was fantastic, he got huge crowd reactions. He could have been part of a real shake up in 99.

Bret Hart, didn't main event until Mayhem 99. He could have at least made matches with the old guard watchable. Him in the nWo made no sense, he was a main eventer and shouldn't have been put as a nobody in a stable.

DDP, yeah I know he briefly won the title in 99 and then went on a run in 2000 but Animal and Sid Vicious main evented in 2000 so it's not a big achievement really.

They should have utilised Benoit earlier too. He might not have fucked off with the title. Although it was stupid to give the title to someone without a contract.

I feel like the 4 above could have had great main events with each other. At the very least better than what 99 generally chuffed out.

In 2000 I think they could have done more with Mike Awesome. He was huge, and the crowd were interested when he came in. Soon he was Lance Storm's lacky and wore flares.

  10. First mania watched

7, and it was awesome at the time although I didn't really care for the main event. Warrior Vs Macho Man had an awesome build and then pure drama in the ring. Roberts Vs Martel may not make sense now but given the build at the time it was great. The tag title match really got me hating the Nasty Boys, LOD squashing Power and Glory really had me behind them, Undertaker had me shit scared and there was some good undercard stuff such as Rockers Vs Haku/Barbarian and Perfect/Bossman (I really thought Bossman would win).

    Favourite Wrestlemania

7, see above. Without that I'm not sure I'd be into wrestling

    Ever been to a Wrestlemania

Nope, no desire for it whatsoever.

    Best Wrestlemania match

Warrior Vs Macho Man or Hart Vs Hart. I just feel those two really have you engaged the whole way through. Macho Man and Hart had a ton of crackers at Mania.

    Worst match

Undertaker Vs King Kong Bundy, I mean what the fuck was that? It wasn't even a 2 minute squash it went about 7 or 8 minutes.

    Best Moments

Macho Man and Elizabeth, what can I say Wrestlemania 7 was grat.

    Worst moment

Hulk coming out at Mania 9 and taking the title. At age 8 I thought it was shit. He fights a guy who just fought, and he doesn't even win clean.

    Best Entrance

6, Rhythm and Blues pink Cadillac.

  11. I've watched a lot of wrestling back and it's I still now think many of them look old despite me being older (now) than many of them, not all of them. But there is definitely more receding hairlines and also the less out there and colourful clothing plays a part. Some of them just wore robes and big pants. I think you watch Rude, Michaels, Hart and Sting and they look young as they have a colourful image.

Much of it must be down to lifestyle? Less roids, less cocaine, less alcohol, better healthcare and less dodgy painkillers. Even the ones taking PEDs now will probably learn to take them in a safer manner. I imagine many of them eat better food too.

I'd also say it's a thing in general. I saw a picture of my dad the same age as me now. I look much much younger than he did.

Yeah, when they first started, Jaret’s stage name was Jaret Von Erich! And of course they have the Alexa Bliss song.

I'd never heard the Alexa Bliss song before, a bit weird for a munch of middle aged men.

Went a bit mental with the retro buying with it being payday. Alongside the 5 NES games I got the other day I scooped up some (relatively to their usual asking prices) cheap games over the last couple of days as well.

    All SNES games;

    • Mortal Kombat 2 - £9
    • Clay Fighter - £6
    • The Lion King - £4
    • Super Castlevania IV - £31
    • Kirby's Fun Pak (Kirby Superstars outside the PAL region) - £36

That will be me for the month now. I shouldn't have really gotten Castlevania and Kirby but it's two big hitters I know I'll play to death and looking at recently sold and still active listings I've saved about £30 between them so it felt like now or never.
Really excited for Castlevania IV as well because I know my wife will play it with me. I convinced her to play Castlevania 1 with me the other night and she got immediately hooked on it. We were up until midnight completing it and then the next morning she got right out of bed, put the NES on and sat and played it herself until she completed it. She's loaded it up a few times since and it's lovely to see her enjoying it.

In other NES news I sat and finished Ducktales earlier. People are right when they say it's one of the better games on the console but it's certainly not without it's flaws. Weird hit detection and invincibility frames are the main reason you take damage  rather than any actual difficulty, and there's a really odd design choice where you go to the Mines and it transports you to get a key in Transylvania, then takes you back to the Mines. You also go back to Transylvania to fight the last boss. Almost like they ran out of space and had to just put a load of the game in one stage.
That being said you can't deny the ease of play, fun pogo mechanic, bright graphics and beautiful music. The fact it never gets frustratingly hard, gives you a end-game score to compete with and you can finish it in half an hour is the icing on the cake really. I've heard Ducktales 2 is a sleeper hit so if I can find that cheap at some point I'll give it a bash.

Had a nightmare with my chipped PS1 I was ranting and raving about. A couple of months ago now I had a mate over and we were playing Mortal Kombat Mythologies and during a cutscene the game crashed. We turned the PS1 off and it stopped reading discs completely.
I got confidence after my NES fixing and decided finally to open it up and sadly can't see anything wrong with it that Youtube/Reddit suggests. I tried changing the laser with my original non-chipped console and still no luck, so my Brother came over and he tried resoldering the mod chip to no avail, so as a last attempt we removed the chip completely and still the same issue. Seems to likely be a motherboard issue, so under the bed it went and I'll have to keep an eye out for a new one at some point.

I also got a new desk and chair delivered for WFH so had space to shuffle things about. I made the executive decision to take my PC speakers and subwoofer and connect them to my retro setup. Thanks to the SNES/N64 sharing the same RGB cable I have them both wired into the speaker system now. The SNES just sounds a little cleaner than direct through the TV but let me tell you that playing Lylat Wars with a sound system and the Rumble Pak had me like

    fg.gif.ef705f9bcad8e11d9e4156aabc009782.gif

It sounds amazing. F-Zero X and Ocarina of Time had a quick go too just to see how they sounded. Not sure I can go back to TV sound now with the N64 at least.

Also found out you can use the Wii scart cable on the Wii U so at one point I'll pick a cheap one of those up and get my Wii U on the CRT to play Wind Waker and Twilight Princess HD on it. I already have the console and games so for like £6 for the cable it's worth a pop I think.

Here's a photo of the setup currently. I'm getting carried away I think.

Alot of people shit on Clay Fighter, I mean it could do with an in game storyline (storyline is in the manual) and endings, but it's a fun game. It at least felt unique at the time.

You are dismissing all stand up comedy then? All a stand up show is an evening with the comedian where they run through a few pre practiced anecdotes.

Are you dismissing the fact I said shit anecdotes, which is different to ones told by a pro comedian?

What's he going to do, eat fish on stage?

This has jogged my memory that I once went to an evening with Bear Grylls event with my Dad, who loves that sort of shit.

It was rubbish. He ziplined onto the stage which to be fair was quite cool, but then most of the time just went on about God.

99% of the audience were scouts and the like, which made us stand out even more, and I can't really recall much else apart from there was some bug eating on stage, but it was bloody rubbish I do remember that, and incredibly boring.

Still, GBK in Richmond beforehand and my Dad enjoyed it, so swings and roundabouts.

I've never really understood the evening with events. Paying 30 notes to listen  to a pre practiced interview and a few shit anecdotes.

They must draw otherwise no cunt would do them. They must be fairly low risk too. As they must cost bugger all to stage so you'd never have to come even close to selling out.

Whole lot of “think” in these replies, shame there aren’t resources online where these things can be checked.

Road Dogg vs Al Snow was the planned Hardcore title match for the Massacre, but according to the Observer he had to go to drug rehab. He did a stretcher job at MSG on the Saturday before the PPV which they tied in on TV mentioning he was injured, and hastily started an issue between Al and JOB Squad mate Bob Holly which resulted in their match for the vacant belt on the Massacre show. Later on TV would Bob start calling himself “Hardcore Holly”. Roadie would return on 1st March Raw, thrown straight back out on TV roughly 3 weeks after his “neck injury.”

Billy was in a triangular rivalry with Ken Shamrock who he’d unsuccessfully challenged for the ICT at the Rumble, and Val Venis who was vying for the affection of Kenny boy’s storyline sister Ryan. Mr Ass was the guest ref for Shamrock vs Venis at the PPV which had the hilarious sight of Ryan forgetting what she was doing and Ken having to obviously - visibly and audibly - tell her “slap me” on camera - with Venis picking up the win shortly after.

The aftermath of these two matches later on being a Russoriffic episode of Raw where each Outlaw won the title that the other had been persuing, which they would contest the week after title for title but go to a no contest when the various other interested parties interfered… culminating in each defending those titles at Mania XV.

What kind of name is “Ryan” for a girl anyway??

A resource for wrestling results you say 🤔

  17. Not for about 20 years id say. I got it more in the 90s but now the people my age either liked it themselves at one point or their kids like it.

I just tell people that it's essentially a TV series with fight scenes but the bad guy can be the main character at times or even win. I suppose the bad guy doesn't win in a way as eventually the ultimate good guy wins and gets the cheers for defeating the dominant bad guy such as Sting at Starrcade 97, Hogan defeating Iraq at WM7 or Cody this year.

Don't think the New Age Outlaws were on that card at all? The only Intercontinental run I remember for Billy Gunn was in late 2000 and he won it from Eddie Guerrero on an episode of Smackers, not at a PPV.

I think Gunn was the special guest referee in a match, I think the IC. I think Road Dogg was IC champ around that time, maybe that had something to do with it.

Chili's favourite background AEW storyline continues to deliver the goods. No idea what Saraya's bro can do, but CHRIST he's a scary looking fucker. Saraya has also been brilliant recently as this high school leader of the gang manipulating gobshite. More more more!!!

Why the fuck have they signed Zak Knight? He's not particularly good on the mic or in the ring. He looks like a scary fucker because like the rest of his family he's a fucking mentalist. I worked with a friend of the Knights, who said he invested in WAW (he didn't like wrestling but he figured it could make a profit and it did) and he said he had no clue how Zak wasn't in prison.

Being All Elite now is pretty much slang for being a cunt.

  20. Chamber of Horrors electric chair match. I watched it a couple of years back and it was still fun. As a kid I thought oh my God look at him being electrocuted. Now just watching Abdullah is hilarious. It's slow , plodding, unfollowable but I love it.

  21. Killer Instinct came out near the end of SNES life span, SF Alpha which came out a similar time went to PS and Saturn and not SNES. MK3 was made on an inferior Midway machine so SNes looks okay and PS almost identical. I actually think it was a decent attempt given the console.

KI Gold suffered like many N64 games did and that was lack of space on a cartridge.
