  1. A new managers job has been made at my organisation. Public conveniences and animal welfare. Both previously managed by Street Cleaning, with 1 guy (me) doing SC and PC (80% the latter), 1 guy doing SC and AW (A 50/50 split) and one just doing AW. So I have no experience with animal welfare and they have none with PCs so will be interesting. PCs has 10 times the budget despite less staff. The manager will manager 2 members of staff. I obviously need to read up on Animal Welfare. Does anybody work on anything like that? Apart from DDA 91 and AWA 2006 I don't know where to look.

Reading a report on wrestling observer about Tony saying he had overspent this year.

According to them, on saying he needed to make cutbacks, he said 'On one song alone, I spent like a years pay for most pro wrestlers in this business'.

Tone, mate, that just makes you sound like a twat. Stop it.

He thinks he looks cool, look at me I can spend all this money on a song. I'd just say why pay wrestlers better.

And marketable is different from being good. Brittany spears is marketable but there are much better singers than her.

He's big, a bit scary looking and can do the monster heel formula well enough. Isn't that what you really need? He can talk reasonably well but he's got a mouth piece and that does the job.

He may not pull off good TV matches such as AJ Styles but that's not what he's there for.

This all depends on what you think a good wrestler does. It's why people like Jeff Jarrett are under rated. People often underestimate the importance of a good heel getting the face over.

Just to check: you guys aren't saying that anyone who's not particularly a fan of Cena automatically believes that some indie button-basher in pleather should be headlining WrestleMania, right? Because that was a really annoying thing that happened on here a lot, back in the day.

I totally believe that Paul Travell vs James Tighe should main event Wrestlemania every year.

  5. I'm not a Cena fan, more because I could never get behind the character. I never really understood it, except with kids. I didn't like Hogan but I understand it.

He was a bit like Hogan in that he bumped, then did a come back. It's very formulaic ala Hogan but if it gets people invested then fair enough. The style works, providing you know when to sell, when to come back etc. As has been mentioned his move set was weird, it didn't suit a big bastard.

How much are tickets likely to be?

I'd imagine similar to Money in the bank last year, the combo tickets will go out first too. I checked and it said £60-750. The £60 and £90 ones were apparently very limited though, as if to say we had cheaper tickets. But if people will pay it, why not charge it.

Someone on reddit worked out a bunch of statistics on how each gladiator performed.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/gladiatorsuk/comments/1brrz9k/complete_gladiators_2024_series_1_statistics/

I thought Viper was a bit shit, that table pretty much confirms it. I think he can take being a bit shit though if the producers think he's doing his job of being over as a heel. But Legend is doing really well and doing better as a bad guy. I'm sure I've read that Gladiators faced the axe if they lost too much, except for Wolf because he was great in other ways. They should try and have some of the Gladiators have events that they are the best at. Just have Giant and Bionic do the duel, the old one had Shadow and Warrior the only men who did it.

In fairness Cardiff is a pretty sorry excuse for a castle anyway.

I’m sure WWE are referring to this: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bishop's_Castle,_Glasgow

The fact that it last stood in the 18th century is neither here nor there…

Pretty sure there is a few in Glasgow such as Crookston and Newark. Probably a fair few within 20 miles such as Dumbarton, which I think has a pretty big castle. Given McIntyre was the home town hero in Cardiff, 20 miles in WWE terms is practically your flat mate.

Weirdly enough for the time they did blow that off in singles at SummerSlam, serving as a transition to Dusty putting Ted over.

Without going down the rabbit hole too far a lot of the practices of the WWF in the 80s through to about 94 (and definitely by 95 with the advent of one PPV a month) PPVs rarely represented the big feuds (a main event aside) and often the matches existed to set up the next serious runs and any matches that did feel like blow offs had non finishes or finishes designed to continue rather than finish the run. Mania VI is a decent example - they set up Duggan vs Earthquake and Boss Man vs DiBiase as big feuds for the road, neither of which will end up blown off at SummerSlam. In turn SummerSlam sets up  Teddy vs Dusty, Quake vs Boss Man and LOD vs Demolition - none of which will get a full blown PPV feud ender either.

Yeah I understand the difference it setting up feuds, how basically the title match at Rumble 91 was there to set up Warrior vs Macho Man and a USA vs Iraq feud, two birds with one stone. The USA vs Iraq, doesn't actually finish at Mania either, there was a 2 vs 3 tag at Summerslam (unsure if it ended there). The Rumble in its self was there to start feuds or carry them on at a PPV without blowing them off.t. It's easy to forget at times, but I understand when they were running 10 house shows a week over 2-3 touring schedules (that being the main source of income) they had to give people a reason to buy a ticket.

    @Chili probably a fair comment.

  10. Fair enough.

I think it's Sapphire more than Dusty that I see as a bit shit. Had it been Macho Man vs Dusty in a singles match I'd look upon as a higher end match, and one that definitely sits high up on that card.

  11. I thought Macho Man was a climb, a fall then a huge climb then a fall. IC title match at  3, win the title at 4, main evented 5.

Then he wrestlers Dusty Rhodes and Sapphire in a comedy match. Not even a good comedy match. He lost too, although Sherri took the pin.

At 7 he wrestlers Warrior in what I would call a co-main event. It felt just as important as the title match. Then at 8 he's back in the title picture. At 10 he's wrestling Crush. What a waste of the machine man.

Apparently the losing finalists picked up injuries during the final. You can see one of them twisting their ankle during The Edge. If they'd been at 100% throughout I don't think it'd been as close as it was. That short filming schedule didn't do anybody any favours. Hopefully they take a little more time to film the second series. Rumour has it there's a celebrity christmas special coming as well. Who would be good on that? Do they trot out some of the older Gladiators for a crack?

I'm sure Shadow would be up for some crack.

Seriously though, a celebrity one sounds a bit shit but I'll probably watch it.

They did the live shows in the 90s, wondering if they would do those again. You've obviously got to be careful which events you use to make set up quick.

  13. I haven't watched wrestling since All In, except a few clips for Stings last match. I do keep an eye out for what's happening. U don't really have any desire to pay for wrestling right now though

I have little or no time for it these days, my partner dislikes it, my son doesn't know what it is. Maybe when he gets older.

@no user name Sabre Jr has pulled out I'm afraid. It is cool you get two Josh Alexander appearances though.

I dunno if either of those could be "fall from graces" to be honest.

They were still pretty prominent/important matches they were involved in.

Yeah people don't realise how over the Smoking Guns were.

  15. I started calisthenics about 6 weeks back. I always thought the Facebook ads for it looked shit but thought I'd give it a go in an actual class. The class is great, and I still think the ads look shit. I weigh about 100kg but after doing this I can do press ups (not on my knees) and can do loads of them (diamond push ups still on knees), do poses I didn't think I could do, hang on a bar, proper tricep dips and basically got a load of muscles that were there but not being used effectively, now working.

I tried DDP yoga years back and it shares some resemblance (from what I can remember).

    I'd definitely recommend it.

I was thinking this, the other day and how the product up till recently felt like it stood still for about 20 years and and yet if you look at that same timescale 1970 wwwf and 1990 wwf are almost like millennia apart.

He'll, wwf 1987 and 1992 look a million years apart.

In 1993 Bossman looked washed up in jobbing on way out to Bam Bam and he was 29!!!

EarthQuake on the way out of wwf in 1993 looked like his run was over and he was....29

Warlords last match for wwf and his run was considered over was 3 weeks into being 30

All look like relics of a bygone era and under 30

Even though we think of feuds and 'runs' lasting longer in 'retro' era wwf, the reality looking back is that alot seemed to change every 3 years.

Hell attitude era and hogan 1990 era are only about 7 years apart yet the product is so different!!!

Yeah it did change regularly. I remember as a kid after watching WM7 rented some older manias from the video shop. I didn't enjoy them. I didn't know who many of the wrestlers were and it looked so dull and dreary. I think I found 5 the first watchable one.

  17. Got the Scotland shirt for me and my son. He loves it and wants to put it on constantly.

SFA don't hide the SSC code to get 15% off so the shirt isn't really £75. I then get a further 8% off JD through work. So my shirt and a kids kit cost about £98 in total. Football kit terms that's okay.

  18. 6 hours ago, SuperBacon said:

The way he's thrown in "and they need to reduce the price of the shirts" at the end is really annoying as yes, clearly Kier, only the very rich like yourselves can justify a £120 shirt, but it has nothing to do with your original pathetic point.

Does he really expect Nike to turn around and go "Yeah, cool. We've manufactured millions of these fuckers, and they're on sale next week, but let us just change the design quickly so all the mouth frothers are happy"

Ironically about 10 or so years ago Umbro also put multicoloured St Georges crosses on the shirt, but no one gave a shit, as its a pathetic issue.

I think in this instance it's justified.

I'm not a particularly big fan of his, or his style of journalism, but he's definitely a high profile Labour member, and people will want to hear why he's left.

Yeah had he come out and said the prices are ridiculous especially as the replica ones (is it stadium) look a bit shit so to buy your kid a proper one is 120 notes. He didn't, he sort of added that at the end of his rant.

Nike probably loving the free publicity.

    LOD vs Nasty Boys.

    No DQ. No count out.

I was SO disappointed by their match at sunmerslam 1991 at madison square garden.

I felt short changed and looking back it just didn’t click

As a kid I rented the video, got a big bag of Revels and settled in for what I hoped would be THE greatest match ever. Two monster teams. Belts on the line. The shoulder pads. The music. The double team moves. Everything.

I was hoping they knock seven shades of shit out of each other but it was just meh!!

Had the match been in WCW they probably would have. WWF didn't really do street street fights at that point. Im sure I remember the Nasty Boys having a brutal match with Cactus Jack and Sullivan in WCW.
